Friday night found him at one of his old watering holes, The Party Pit, which he was relieved to see was still standing after two years. Not that there had been any sign of it losing business or having financial troubles, but Brendan couldn't dismiss that the possibility had entered his mind. So many things had happened while he had been out, just as much as so many things hadn't changed at all. The whiplash ached in his bones.

Parking his motorcycle, he loosened his leather jacket and made his way into the club. The Party Pit, as one would assume by its name, had an eponymous structure that broke into two tiers. The upper floor, by way of gently sloping and lighted steps, was where the bar and general seating were held. It was also where the entrance led into first, allowing Brendan to lean over the railing to see the chasm of people below. It wasn't a huge dip in the ground, but it was pronounced enough to earn its name--almost bowl-like.

The noise was deafening, and he welcomed it. A deep thrumming beat rummaged around in his rib cage as he took a stool by the bar and ordered a shot. To abuela, he thought sullenly. Then another. He nursed the third and turned his back against the counter, absorbing the energy of the people around and below him. If the ocean couldn't give him his satisfaction, he supposed he'd just have to find it in someone else tonight.

The Party Pit. A new, frequent haunt of late and one where Gwen knew she could score her much needed supply. Of course, the club also had a vibe to it that completely meshed with the woman's current tastes. Bodies everywhere. People dancing with no account to who was up against who, and the bar was well positioned to enjoy the sights and sounds of the place when one's thirst needed to be quenched. In fact, that was where the red-head was moving to.

Slipping between sweaty bodies, her own short black dress daring to slide just a little too far north, but practiced hands pulled down at just the right moment to keep a show from happening. Daring heels, and long red hair, left down and free, added to the show that Gwen wanted to give. A dash of mystery, eye-catching, and alluring.

The sounds and lights of the club would have been overstimulating for anyone unaccustomed to the specific high she was riding, but Gwen was experienced at this point and she relished it all. In fact, Gwen made it a point to touch others as she slipped past them. A bump, a rub of bodies, a hand on chest or shoulder.

That was how she found herself squeezing her way to the bar and nearly pushed against another red-head. A brow rose as she looked at him appreciatively. Immediately an impish smile graced her face as the bartender took her order. A rum and coke. Easy. Nothing fancy and would get the job done.

"You look a little lost." She remarked as she waited for her drink. "Did you lose someone in the crowd?"

She caught his eye as she meandered about: maybe because she was drawing close, maybe because she too had blazing red hair, maybe because her act was just eye-catching to begin with: a purposeful figure in a writhing mass of chaos. Brendan knew better than to stare like a creep, but his gaze lingered nonetheless. The booze was beginning to settle comfortably in his stomach.

"Lost? Not at all, babe," he said easily, smiling. "I'm right where I wanna be now that you're here. Tired've dancing, or looking for someone yourself?"

Smiling against the brim of her glass, Gwen took a sip of the dark liquid. She wasn't in need of the liquid courage, but the sweet taste of liquor and soda was a pleasant sensation upon her taste buds. The soft popping and fizzing tickled her mouth and nose as the warmth of the rum could be felt all the way to her stomach.

"I was." She remarked boldy with a flick of her hair over her shoulder. "But I think I may have found him." A knowing, teasing grin before a tongue raced over from teeth.

Without preamble, she leaned against the man, shoulder to shoulder. A careful, but strong choice considering she hadn't even learned the man's name. Speaking of which... "I am Gwen by the way." A hand reached up behind him to the mass of red hair upon his head and ever so gingerly, she played with it near the nape of his neck. Eyes shifted from his own to the workings her fingers were doing within his mop of hair.

His brows lifted slightly at her proactive approach, but he wasn't un-receptive to it. Playing with his hair certainly made pleasant goosebumps run up his back. "Brendan," he said in turn as his arm slipped around her waist, half so that he could keep her steady, half as an unconscious action. "Can't tell if it's a damn shame you're alone or I'm just damn lucky."

She was also clearly ahead of him in drink count. This bothered him for the right reasons, so he started to sip his own for the wrong ones.

"I'll be honest with you, Gwen," Brendan said, somehow audible in their bubble of conversation as a riotous party mix began to play below, "I haven't really gone out in a while. Glad this place is still around, though. I think," he paused, having to do the math, "uh, five years ago? Maybe? Five or so years ago, they had some jackass start a fire in the middle down there, and people were just slipping over each other because the floor was too steep. Had to remodel after everything died down."

The arm around her waist was like a fire. The heat was almost unbearable but she leaned further into him, fingers losing themselves even deeper within the red hair, not afraid to give tiny tugs here and there. All the while she happily took another sip of her drink that sat poised in her right hand. "I would say, it's our lucky night." She chuckled, took another swig as he sipped on his own.

Blue eyes shifted to the bowled dance floor as she tried to envision a fire burning there. With the lights and writhing bodies moving with and against each other, it actually wasn't terribly had to 'see'. "Five years ago, hm? That's a long time to go without some time out having fun. Have and over-possessive girlfriend?"

She turned her attention back to him. It didn't take much for her to mesmerize herself with the shape of his face. Eyes trailed the lines of his brows, cheek, jaw, back to where her hand continued to gently twirl fingers in his hair. The lights flashed on his face periodically pulling her attention to different points of him as if they were spotlights drawing her attention this way and that.

"I used to be like that. A bit of a stick in the mud when you don't have fun."

"Nah, just been away for a while," he replied. Brendan then added with a wink, "No girlfriend."

There was a little part of him that was impervious to both the alcohol and the frisson of excitement from physical touch. It said help her. Of course, there were quite a few ways to "help," some speaking up louder than others.

"Used to be?" he prompted, brows raised as he looked at her. Brendan wasn't shy about eye contact, but it was clear that Gwen wasn't wholly there--and reminding himself of it wasn't helping his apparently incorruptible morals, grief or no grief. "Y'look smokin' like that, I wouldn't have figured."

Well that was pleasant to hear. No SO meant that Brenden was very much single, available, and most likely, willing. The evening was certainly taking a fantastic turn for Gwen and she was pleased for it.

"Mhm. Used to be once upon a time. I've learned to relax a bit since then though. Enjoy life a little." At the mention of her looks Gwen's smile turned almost devilish. "I do what I can." Another gulp of her drink. The ice clinked solidy against the glass as she ignored the small straw that had been given for her to use.

"So are you from this city?" She questioned curiously, trying her best to keep engaged in conversation so she or her mind didn't begin to wander too far ahead of themselves. "By the way you're reminiscing it seems like it." The fingers trailing in his hair gravitated to the nape of his neck as small circles were traced on the skin there in the lightest of touches.

"I am a city transfer, as it was." She giggled. "I've been here..." She paused trying to gather her thoughts and convince her mind to do some actual thinking. "Three years now? Something like that." A wave of a had dismissed the importance of that information.

Relax seemed like an understatement to him. Or maybe he really had forgotten in two years how to chat and feel up strangers in a club. God, he wished he could just cave already.

"Born here, yeah," he replied. "Dad was in the military, though, so I've been around. Only really got back here..." Brendan paused again to think. "Also five-ish years ago now, or so, after my own tour. Where'd you transfer from?"

He had a vague idea, though it felt a bit racist and stereotypical. But still: red hair that bright...And he swore she sounded just a bit different than a typical American...

"Oh! So I am sure you've gotten to see a good chunk of the nation, maybe even other bits of the world, being the son of a military man. That sure has to have some fun memories attached." GWen was absolutely enjoying herself. Not only was she leaning into a rather attractive man, but she was having a lovely conversation and she was going to make damn sure this led to one of her new favorite activities.

"HM? Oh, well I moved here from New York where I lived with my father and brother." She stopped to take another drink of her rum and coke. The clinking of the ice announced her arrival to the bottom of the glass. "I am originally from Ireland though I've not been there since we moved away when I was seven. Dad wanted to head back to his home city when mother passed away." She shrugged, the memories no longer bitter or hurtful, just facts. Facts that she apparently was willing to just dish out to anyone.

"Want to dance?" She questioned him with a glint in her eye.

He snapped his fingers. "I knew it!" he said with a smile. "You kinda looked Irish, but I didn't wanna assume. That's a hotter accent than anything I can come up with."

Brendan's smile faded as he went on to say, "I'm sorry about your mom, though." s**t, he really hadn't drunk enough. He didn't have any good lines for this, shrug or no shrug, and it was back to reminding him about his abuela. ********. He tilted his glass back instinctively, but all that was left was the incredibly watered down remnant of his drink and a whole lot of melted ice.

Putting the glass down on the counter, he straightened up, pulling Gwen along a little with him with the motion. "If you don't mind a few klutzy left feet, I'll try to show you a good time." Not that Brendan was a bad dancer, but ever since his physical therapy had shown him just how much he had taken simple motions for granted, he had started to feel a creeping doubt about other things as well.

A grin lit up Gwens face. "Oh, I plan to hold you to that." She said as she deposited her own empty glass upon the counter to be carted away by a bartender. "Don't worry, I am sure you'll be fine and, if need be, let me do all the work." She winked as she let herself be led onto the dance floor.

Bodies writhed around the two of them until they could find a spot that wasn't so claustrophobic and allowed them at least some room of their own. Gwen wasted no time in letting her body melt to the beat of the music. Hips moved rhythmically, as an arm reach up behind her head, lifting the mass of red hair off of her neck for a moment before letting it drop back down as her hand shifted to Brenden's neck and shoulders.

Dancing close and practically on top of each other was the only way to move in this club. The amount of pressing bodies left little room for anyone, and Gwen really had no qualms with this. It gave the perfect excuse for hands, hips, and legs to intermingle with Brenden's. A suggestive touch here and there, but never quite so far as to, hopefully, make the man uncomfortable and bolt.

The only way Gwen could make him uncomfortable would be if she unzipped her skin and revealed an alien beneath. As it was, Brendan welcomed being immersed in the dance floor, in her and her body. A gentleman he may be, but there were more than a few suggestive looks coming from him, small and subtle gestures with his hands that said it might have been a while, but remembering how these moments went was a lot like riding a bicycle: you never really forgot. And being around people again reminded him of the rhythm and heartbeat of a crowd, how good it felt to feel a bass line in your chest while someone else touched it.

Of course, losing himself (at last, if temporarily) reminded him that this was the appetizer, and he was keen on the meal still. At one point, while behind Gwen and pressing against her, he leaned in to ask, "Wanna take this to your place?" He wasn't normally so upfront, but Brendan couldn't help himself. She was a catch, and he didn't want to end the pity party alone.

The energy between her and Brenden was sending Gwen over the edge. Each touch of his hands, torso...hips, were enough to send her senses into high alert. There was nothing else in that room except her, Brenden, the music and the lights. It created a dizzying sensation and Gwen was more than willing to let herself fully succumb to it.

And those sweet words were spoken into an ear over the heavy beat of the music and Gwen's smile broadened. The excitement she was feeling she could care less if they did it right there on the floor, but somewhere far away she knew that her apartment was the better plan. The safer choice.

In response she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close to her and kissing him quite fully. Nothing was held back in that kiss as it promised what was to come. "Come on." She said loudly as she grabbed his hand and practically pulled him through the writhing bodies towards the exit.
