Kahlua had a lot on her mind. She wanted to learn how to bake better..but she didn't like doing stuff alone. She had so many siblings in her home, she was used to always have a companion. While she had classmates in school, lately she'd felt more like she was on her own in terms of who she had to hang out with. Sighing, the young girl sat at her desk looking at a recipe book. She would be a junior soon...she had dreams of working in a kitchen and becoming a head chef. She loved cooking..the more she did it, the more she found her love for the pastime. Even baking was fun. The coffee colored baphomet smiled thoughtfully as her fingers scanned a page, it was for a shepherds pie. Hmm..she bet all of her siblings and parents would love something like that!
Kahlua just nibbled on her bottom lip as she sighed softly.

Nova sometimes wondered if it would be a good idea to learn how to cook. Her sibling, Zoren didn't seem interested in such things...and their adoptive father, Jamie was such a kind-hearted spirit. Nova felt at peace now that she had a family and a room of her very own. It had given her time to focus on her studies and really excel. While she was still reserved and didn't frequently talk with others, she did enjoy school. Reading was immensely fun and gave her something to do in her free time. The faster she completed her goals, the sooner she could begin to study the stars. She was passionate about learning more about outer space, and the galaxies in the skies above. Nova also loved reading and learning.
So when she saw another, quieter girl off by herself nose in a recipe book Nova had an idea. Peeking one eye open at the other girl, she tapped a clawed digit on her desk. "Hey....do you want to try making something with me...?" She asked quietly, offering her a tiny smile. Her friendship with Marsh, while sometimes annoying with how loud he was...had helped her grow out of her shell somewhat.

Kahlua hadn't expected anyone to approach her...so when the sound of the soft-spoken hybrid's voice spoke up, she could only lift her head and blink. Studying the other, Kahlua tilted her head from one side to the other before smiling brightly at her. Whoever this was, she sure seemed really nice! Her expression was curious as the girl set her textbook down. "Ohhh..hello there!" She blurted out, her tanned cheeks flushing slightly. Her little short tail began wiggling, as if in excitement.
She might not have been born a grimm..but Kahlua had been raised by a pack of them for plenty of time. "Um..yes I would really like that!" Kahlua added, sliding out of her chair and standing up.

Nova waited for the other to respond, patiently standing there as she peered at her expectantly. While she herself didn't talk often, it didn't mean she couldn't use her voice. The other seemed like she needed company...and Nova actually wanted to try socializing more often. This seemed like a good a start as any she supposed. "Okay. I know there are lots of different things, I'm willing to try anything really." She confessed, with a small hmm sound following. Smiling at the other, she nodded for her to follow.
Leading her to the home ec rooms cooking bench, she glanced back at her. "Although, honestly..? I think something sweet sounds nice." She murmured thoughtfully, accompanied with a light shrug as if she wasn't sure.

Kahlua looked to the other, listening to her carefully. That was usually her role, listening. Often times her siblings would get frustrated or upset, and she tried her best to give them each their chances to talk. It was getting easier as they all got older, but that didn't change the fact she craved making new friends. So when the opportunity presented its self, she didn't mind rolling with it. "Hey, you are the one who invited me! I don't mind, I am just thankful you asked. I was nervous to go try by myself...I know the older kids do this as an elective but no one says we can't..." She trailed after the hybrid, her hand reaching out and taking hold of the other girls for support.
Peering from behind her, she glanced at the various ingredients to the cookbook she carried around. "Oh, I know! What about...well. Hm, do you want to make a pie?! A fruit one and we can put whip cream on top when we are done!!" The baphomet asked suddenly, in an excited, almost eager tone as she tugged at the other girl's sweaters sleeve eagerly. She beamed at her with a wide happy smile.

Nova felt her brows raise at the other obvious enthusiasm. She wasn't really expecting it..but it was nice to see the other smiling. She had noticed how distracted and far away her expression had seemed...Nova knew what it felt like to feel like you were being passed up. Until recently, she had grown accustomed to being overlooked. "We can do that, I don't mind. Maybe a peach and blackberry pie?" She suggested with a smile of her own. With the mutual agreement, Nova went to retrieve some of the things they would be needing, coming back shortly after to unload her small arms full of provisions. "Okay..we need a few more things, like bowls, mixer and a glass dish.." She murmured thoughtfully.

Kahlua felt her brows furrow as she listened to the other girl. "Oh..by the way my name is Kahlua. I'll go get that stuff." She offered toddling over to grab two glass bowls for mixing, and a glass pan to pour the mixture in for when it came time for baking. Balancing the goods in her grasp, she quickly returned back to her new friends' side. Helping her set everything up, they followed a fairly simple fruit pie recipe, following the classrooms recipe the best the pair of freshlings could manage.
As Kahlua helped her stir, she purposely flicked a little at her friend with a wide, silly smile spreading across her face as she laughed. "Thank you again... I really appreciate you asking me to make stuff with you!" She flashed her a toothy smile.

"Ack!" Nova protested as batter splattered on her cheek. Giving the other a weird look, she finally couldn't help but laugh herself. "I'm Nova..it's nice to meet you." Nova looked at her, before she decided to have a little fun. Grabbing some of the pie mixtures, she flicked some back at the other. Giggling, Nova couldn't help but shake her head.
"Alright, alright if we do that..we won't have any for later to eat silly." She nodded her head, despite the twinkle of mischief in the hybrids gaze. Going back to working with Kahlua, the pair went about forming their pie base before lining the bottom with a cookie crust. Before long, it was time to march off to the oven. Not bad for a pair of freshlings! Nova felt proud they had gotten this far together.

Kahlua poked her tongue out at the other but didn't argue with her. Of course, she was right, as yummy as the batter was, flinging it all over each other wouldn't do either of them any good. After their creation had been put in to bake, and a proper timer set, Kahlua sighed dramatically sitting down. All they could do now was...wait. Which of course was boring, but even after only a few minutes, she could already smell the delicious result of the two girls efforts.
Lifting her head up, her eyes twinkled with mirth. "Say Nova, do you have someone you want to bring half your pie home to? I know I do!" She added, her legs swinging back and forth as she waited, barely patient for the timer to go off.

Nova turned her attention from the oven, then back to her friend. Considering just a few minutes ago..they had been complete strangers, it was oddly nice. She considered the others question before nodding. "I do..my Daddy and little brother...we are both adopted, but they are family." Nova soon learned from the other, that Nova too had been adopted by her currently family. The fact they shared this similarity gave both children a sense of commodity they hadn't realized existed between them.
"When it's done and cool, we will split it in half." She promised, and upon learning how large the other's family...Nova planned to let Kahlua take a little bit more than half home. Smiling, the pair sat together, talking away and nearly missing the beep of the oven when it finally came time.
The old saying was true, time really did fly when you were having fun.
