Hikito sighed as he tidied up the room again. The caretakers had gone through and taken out half of his prank supply and the only reason they hadn't gotten the rest is cause he'd hidden them not in the room. Now his room was empty and bland and boring. The only reason he was cleaning it, his part of it anyway, was so that nobody would futz about in his stuff.
Task done, he went out to go collecting his as yet untouched supplies. There was his squirt gun, still partially filled with water, a jar full of bugs he'd collected one day during recess, several books he'd borrowed from the library and was definitely going to return soon, whoopie cushions, and a stash of super secret goods that he wasn't going to get. Today he was going to use the squirt gun, and also water balloons which he still needed to get. There was this pink elf in some of his classes that he kept noticing, so today it was time to pay her back.

Averona sighed as she looked around the hall. She had just finished reading her book, and wanted to see if the librarian had anything less dull and more difficult to read. In her hands was a pile of around ten books, some thin and some thick, and she was completely dwarfed by them. As she was slowly walking, someone caught her eye. She was going to ignore them, until she recognized the sweater. It was the nightmare from her classes! The one she had accidentally called a girl because of their hair and their skirt, and Averona had stupidly assumed. What was their name again....oh yea! "Hikito! Hikito, hi!" Gently placing her books down, she turned to face her fellow classmate, calling out their name again. "Hikito! It's Averona!"

Oh man, it was her! Right in the middle of the hall in the library that separated the kids' books from the bigger kids' books Hikito had been trying to stealthily make his way back to the section in the library that nobody visited. He could tell because there was a layer of dust on the books. So he'd taken the opportunity to nudge some books out of place and put some of his things back behind them. He'd added a few extra things right before The Purge, just in case and it was a good thing too. Since he'd been spotted though, he was going to have to play it cool.
Even if the little elf had called him a girl the other day in class. He'd called her out on it, because clearly he was a boy! But he. .hadn't really minded it honestly. Putting that thought aside, Hikito slowly turned around as if he'd only just seen her.
"Ooooh, it's you." She sure was excited to see him. "Oh! I had this thing to show you. It's really cool, but you gotta come with me to see it!" Hikito gave her a sharp toothed smile. He'd planned on getting her out there after he got his stuff, but this was too good an opportunity to miss.

Averona had followed Hikito to the middle of the library, hoping to catch them before she lost of sight of them. They were near the adult books, which was great cause Averona needed to browse them. Since it was just them, and nobody else, maybe she would be able to at least start a book or two that was certainly outside of her grade level. Shaking her head, she noticed that Hikito stopped when she had called out their name. They also had responded to her!
"Yea! I was going to get some new books! You have something to show me? Really? What is it?"
At their grin, she smiled too and followed Hikito to what they wanted to show her.

Perfect! She didn't suspect a thing. Grin growing imperceptibly wider, Hikito turned and started to lead them out towards the garden just outside the library. He'd stashed his buckets of water balloons out there, with the water gun filled up and set carefully on top. The flower bush right next to it was the same pink color of Averona's hair, so he could just tell her that he'd seen it and thought of her. That would be good enough to fool her. Then while she admired it for a minute or whatever, he'd grab out a balloon and the water gun and let loose on her!
Glad that they didn't have any spots that would flicker and pulse with their excitement to give them away, they just kept the bright grin on their face. He held the door open for Averona when they got to it, and then hurried back in front of her to lead the way when she was through. A few minutes down the trail, and the bush he had planned the ambush next to was in sight.
"I was walking down the path the other day after class, and I saw this bush, and the color is just like yours! I thought it was really pretty and wanted to show you!" he announced brightly. "Plus, they smell real nice! Here, lean in and sniff," he encouraged her, taking a step to the side. When she leaned in to do as he asked, he quickly swiped the water gun and a good sized balloon out of the bucket. When she turned to see what he was doing, he chucked the balloon right at her face, then squirted some of the water from the gun out at her.
"Sike!!!" he shouted gleefully, turning to get another out of his bucket. The other bucket had been tucked out of sight at the other end of the garden area, just in case she'd come from that way.

Nodding excitedly, Averona set the majority of her books down, keeping a massive tome on her so that she remembered to pickup the second one when she came back from her adventure with Hikito. Once she was done, she turned and followed Hikito out of the library and into the garden. It was a really nice day out, and the flowers were so pretty as they sat in the sun. She had zoned out a bit, but when she heard them speak, she tuned back in. "Oh? That's so cool! Maybe I can take one and put it in my room!" Moving forward, she leaned in as suggested, then suddenly, she was wet. She thought she heard Hikito shout, but all she knew was that she was wet. They had hit her with water! How dare they! Huffing, she turned to face Hikito more fully, breathing deeply. Seeing them laugh, she straighten up, lifting the heavy book to her shoulder. "Oh? You think that's funny, huh? Maybe you should spend more time in the library reading then playing pranks!" Glaring at Hikito, she hefted the book up some more and swung. She was aiming for their arm and the water gun, but any point of contact would work. "Take that!"

Uh-oh! Hikito hadn't taken into account how mad she would get, or her tugging a book along. He had about two seconds to see her lift up the book and swing towards him. Narrowly avoiding getting hit with it, he flung another balloon in response. That had been close, too close. Scooping up the bucket by its' handle, he scurried back a few steps.
"That thing looks heavy! Maybe you should play outside more and you'll be able to get me!" he teased her, sticking out his tongue and blowing a raspberry. He hadn't been lying though, the flowers really had made him think of her. They were a pretty pink color like she was and actually smelled really nice.
Too bad for her, it had led him to thinking of this prank. Which, so far, was going splendidly. Setting down the bucket, now that he was out of book-swinging range, he picked up another couple balloons and chucked them towards her. He'd save the gun for when she got closer again.
"Nice swing though!"

Averona glared at the other as the book hit thin air. Huffing, she lifted it up to block the incoming balloon. Good thing there was a covering on the book. It was probably to avoid food or drink spills, but hey, it works for water balloons too.
"Heavy? This is light as a feather. Maybe if you came closer I could show you!" Glaring at Hikito, she hefted the book up again, then paused. Sticking her tongue out, she stuck the book under her arm, and started to stomp away.
"Sure, I'll play outside, but not with you!" She quickly side stepped away from the incoming balloons, flicking her hair out and patting her book.
She had thought that Hikito might want to be friends, but she was certain that this wasn't how friends treated each other. Turning away from them, she let her eyes fall to the ground as she stormed away, sad that hadn't made a new friend.

Hikito nearly skittered back another couple steps as Averona threatened another swing with the book. Amazingly, she'd even used it to block his water balloons! When she paused, he'd been prepared to flee with his bucket, leaving the squirt gun behind as she charged in for another attack, but instead she turned around and stomped off. Well that wasn't fun at all!
"Hey! Where are you going?!" he called after her, throwing more water balloons. Most of them went way off course and if she replied he didn't hear it. Disappointed that he hadn't been able to use more of his water balloons, and that his prank hadn't quite been as successful as he'd hoped, he gathered up his supplies and trekked across the garden to the other side where his second bucket was.
Huffing, he made his way back to the bush with two buckets and stared for a long moment at the flowers. He didn't want her to go to the librarian or one of the caretakers, so maybe he'd pick a flower or something and give it to her. Embarrassed, and not entirely certain why, he fetched a pair of gardening scissors from a gardener that wasn't paying enough attention and made his way back to the chosen flowers.
Carefully picking his favorite, he cut the flower off and stuck it in one of his buckets. Some of the water balloons had popped so there was some water at the bottom. As sneakily as he could, he made his way back into the library and scoped the place out. Spotting her in more or less the same spot as she'd been in before he watched as she got up with a book and went off for whatever reason. Quickly, while she was gone, he raced over and put the bucket with her stuff. Most of the water balloons got transferred to his bucket, but he left in like two to help support the flower. As she started to come back he raced off with his bucket, running until he ran out of breath and absolutely had to stop or his lungs would burst. There, that was good enough, right?
