Cyril sucked in a deep breath, clutching his shirt. He didn't quite run, but he was speed walking through the halls. The tears welling in his eyes made it hard to actually tell where he was going, but as long as he was going away he didn't care. The halls were a vaguely familiar blur going by and he was thankful that there weren't many nightmares around this area. They wouldn't see the disheveled mess he was. His clothes were ripped, his hair was messed up, his chest and back were sore, bruises already forming there and on his arms. Not to mention he couldn't stop his spots from flashing his distress to anyone who could read them. Originally he'd been trying to get back to his dorm, but they might be back there waiting for him to reappear there so they could continue the abuse. Now he was just running. Away, away, did it even matter where to? Cyril sniffled, scrubbing at his face and clutching tighter at his shirt.

Wade had stayed late after school to finish a dumb project with some of his classmates. He was heading towards the portals so he can go home. He grumbled some as he walked with his heavy bag. The next thing he knew, someone ran him over and his backpack went sliding across the floor. The hybrid got up, rubbing his elbow. "Ow.." He looked over to see another student. He looked like he had the crap beat out of him or something... there was no way the collision did that.

He leaned down and offered his hand to the other to help him up. "hey.. are you alright?" He asked, looking concerned. He looked around, not seeing anyone else. "Did someone hurt you?" He added.

Cyril saw a blonde and teal blur and the next thing he knew he hit the ground again. Vaguely he knew that whoever it was had hit the ground too, but the unexpected collision with the ground had him gasping and wincing. He'd landed on a yet-to-be-bruised portion of skin, but that good luck seemed to have abandoned him. The ground seemed to have awakened all the rest of his aches and pains and each pulse made them hurt worse. Choking on a sob, Cyril didn't hear whatever he said, just saw the hand out of the corner of his eye coming at him. Flinching automatically, he curled into himself, tensing in preparation for some sort of blow. "Sorry. . .sorry. . ." he muttered under his breath. At this point, he didn't even know what the initial thing he'd done that had caused this backlash was so he just apologized for everything. His pattern was flashing wildly, and he could see it even through his closed eyelids.

Wade looked completely shocked as the other winced from offering his hand then curled in a ball and apologized. "Hey.. it's okay.. really." He reassured, moving to sit on his knees. His voice and facial features softened as he leaned to try and look at his face. "Are you okay? You look like you've had a rough day..." He told him, reaching back to dig through his bag and pull out his lunch box. He then pulled out his ice pack, putting his lunch box away. "These looks painful.." He wrapped the ice pack in an unused napkin then sat it on his bag.

It was obvious that someone hurt the other, likely a bully or sorts. He gently touched the other's arm. "I'm not mad and I am not going to hurt you." He told him, trying to get him to look at him so he could ice anywhere that hurt. He would have to text his mom too to let her know he will be slightly delayed.

For several long moments Cyril didn't process anything. He was frozen, just waiting for the blows to come. Slowly he realized that the other was talking to him. One eye peeked open and he tuned in just as he was saying that they looked painful. Sniffing, he waited a few more moments, just in case it was a ruse. He couldn't help the small flinch as he reached for his arm, and Cyril sucked in a breath. He hadn't realized there was a bruise there, but the fact that even a soft touch hurt meant there was one. Pulling away, he looked away, then peeked back at him. Another soft sniff and he reached up to scrub the wetness off his cheeks. He hadn't realized when he'd started crying, but he tried to stop immediately. It was stupid, stupid and painful to be leaking like a little kid here. He wasn't alone and he couldn't afford to cry here.

"S-sorry. . .sorry. . " From the look at the other kid's backpack sprawled on the ground, he must have run into Cyril was trying to get away. Any eye contact he made with the other boy was fleeting and quickly turned into him staring at the ground.

Wade felt a pain in his chest as he observed the other. He must have been bullied a lot to be this skittish. He then moved to gently grab the others hand, standing up and helping him stand. "I said it was alright. I'm not hurt... But you clearly are." He kept a hold of his hand, leaning down to grab his bag and ice pack. He then led them to one of the near by benches. "Go ahead, take a seat." He told him, moving him to sit.

It was way easier to check him out this way, "who hurt you? Was it more than one person?" He asked, taking the ice pack and putting it on whatever spot seemed the most swollen. Wade smiled softly to him, "I'm Wade. What's your name?" He asked, trying to calm the other down. He then pulled out a first aid kit and started to dress the cuts. "You'll be okay. I'm not going to let anyone hurt you while I'm around, okay?" He reassured.

Cyril managed to fight back the wince and the flinch that helping him stand elicited. Shakily he stood up and since his hand had been captured, followed Wade wherever he was leading them. Concentrating, he managed to calm down enough that he wasn't a light show anymore, which helped him to calm down a bit more. Sitting, he looked away, nibbling at his bottom lip. Most of the time when he explained about the bruises, the other party found ways to make him pay harder and meaner the next time.

"I-I-I-I-I'm Cyril-ril-ril," he stuttered, swallowing hard afterwards. The ice pack wasn't completely frozen, but the cold was still a shock as it pressed against his wrist. The one he'd been clutching his shirt with was pretty bad off, with bruises blooming from wrist to mid arm. "A-a-a-a first aid kit-kit-kit?" he cursed as the simple process of trying to speak was made more difficult by his stupid stutter. The more he tried to tame it, the worse it seemed to get. "W-wh-why do you have a first aid-aid-aid kit on you? Do-do-do you normally do things-things-things like this?"

Good. He seemed to be calming down a bit though he was stuttering a lot... Then again, he might have a stutter. Wade smiled to him, "Nice to meet you, Cyril." He looked over the bruises again. "If.. you won't tell me who did it... I can't help protect you from them.. " he explained. "I took a self defense class so.. like I said.. I won't let anyone hurt you." He promised, touching his hand and smiling to him. "Does this happen often?" He inquired.

Wade rubbed his neck, "oh, my mom's pretty paranoid that way... I'm glad I had it on me today." He moved to sit next to Cyril, lightly rubbing his back to try and help soothe him. "Do you live here at the academy?"

"I-I-I didn't think they did a self def-def-defense class here. . ." Cyril certainly would have at least tried to take it if he'd known. Licking his lips and hunching over his knees, he closed his hand so Wade could only touch the top. "I-I-It's. . f-fine," he lied. The bandages helped, but by the end of it there was more white showing than there was his dark skin. He was pretty pleased with the fact that they covered up his bio-luminescent patches though. Flexing his fingers a bit, he winced, feeling the bruises making themselves known at the action. Shouldn't have done that.

For a brief moment, Cyril looked a little jealous that not only did he have a mom, but that she cared enough about her kid that she'd give him something that he likely wouldn't ever need on the off chance he did. "M-me too. . ." he said, wiping the expression from his face and looking back towards the building. He didn't really think they were still searching for him, even if there was a small part of him that insisted they were. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Wade move but Cyril still jolted a bit when he sat next to him. The moment his hand put any sort of pressure on the geist's back, he hissed out a pained noise and flinched away from the touch. It was a nice thought, but he'd been kicked, punched, and shoved pretty violently, and his entire back was just one mass of pain. Hunching over like he was was partially in a vain attempt to lessen the pain, and part of it was because he wasn't feeling very open right now.

". . . .yes. . . . " he finally answered though. He'd been abandoned, even the orphanage that had picked him up hadn't wanted him and had shoved him off here. No matter how much he wanted to leave, he would eventually have to backtrack back to his dorm. It was just him there, for whatever reason, but that just meant more room for his pets. Most of which had claimed him instead of the other way around. They, at the very least, would notice his absence. He sighed, thinking of the mess they'd likely made in his room while he was out. Tears welled up in his eyes again, slowly dripping down his face one at a time. Even after all this, he would have to clean his room up before he could even get into bed.

Wade rubbed his neck again, "Well... it was a class that was offered in the city I live in, I could give you their information." He offered. It was obvious the other was lying, he looked awful... like a couple other students beat him up; it actually ticked Wade off. Who just beats up a kid!? His mom taught him better than that!

He watched the other look back in the direction he came, "Do you think they are looking for you?" He asked, "If so, you could just stay at my house tonight... I know my mom won't care." She wouldn't mind at all, especially if she knew what happened. Besides, she would be better at tending to the other's wounds.

"That's okay, a lot of people live here." Wade told him as he pulled his hand away from him, seeing it was hurting him. "Sorry... Was just trying to soothe your aches. Mom is better that this stuff than I am.. She has pain medicine at home that will also help with the swelling." He explained, hoping the other would take up his offer.

"O-oh. . .n-no thanks," Cyril slumped a bit more. If it was in a different city he wasn't likely the be able to take it. The odds of getting lost on the way there, or attacked, or being late, or a thousand other things happening was too much for him to be able to comfortably do it. Who knows if it'd even be worth it in the end. He would probably suck at it and fail the class and then it'd be money he didn't have wasted and he'd have to explain that to the caretakers who checked in on him and and and.

The question snapped him out of his thoughts. "M-maybe. . .I-I don't remember. . .I think I was alone when I got-got-got up but. . ." Cyril let his sentence fade away. When he'd come to, it had been in a haze and he'd just wanted to hide. He'd struck out blindly, picking a direction at random and then getting lost in the cacophony of aches and pains that had screamed at him as his body moved. Now that he'd stopped moving, it was a little better, but various other small complaints were making themselves known.

"I-I have . .familiars. . . I-I need to look after," he stammered weakly, sneaking a glance at Wade. He would love to not have to go back, but. . he couldn't just leave his pets on their own for the night. They wrecked enough havoc during the day, who knew how badly it would end up if he left them unattended overnight. "I-I have. . some things-things-things. . in my dorm. . for this." It was a sad fact but he'd started keeping things on hand so he wouldn't end up at the nurse's quite so often. She'd started asking some questions and his answers hadn't been satisfying. "T-th-thank you. . .though." Cyril swallowed, rubbing at his eyes again with a sniffle.

Wade was surprised that the other didn't want any information on the place he went to. He used to be bullied until he was able to stand up for himself... He was able to do that because of the confidence that the class gave him. He left it go though. If Cyril didn't want to, he certainly wasn't going to make him. "Alright, no worries. I can always give it to you later if you change your mind." He listened to the other explain his situation, wanting to help him more and more. This junior seemed to be having a real rough time here and.. maybe he didn't have friends.

The hybrid gave the other a soft smile, "Well Cyril, You can take your familiars with for the night. I think it would do you good to get out of here at least for the night... Besides, I have a huge backyard and a pond so they will have fun." He told him. "I can help you gather them up too." He added as he stood up and slung his bag over his shoulder. "Come on, it'll be fun. I can show you some of my games or we can watch TV or whatever." He offered another smile, gently putting his hand out. "I think it would be nice to get to know my new friend."

Cyril nodded absently at Wade's suggestion. He supposed it wouldn't do any harm for him to think maybe he'd want the information later. Who knows, maybe he would one day, as unlikely as that was. His second suggestion, that he take his familiars with him to the other's house, had him reeling back. He had eight familiars, and half of those were cockatriels! One of the little birds was bad enough, but trying to wrangle all four of them to get them wherever it was this boy lived would be a nightmare. He was lucky enough they liked his room, for the most part, enough that they didn't try leaving it very often. And yet. . .

"I-I-I. . ." he started to gently decline, trailing off as he stared at the hand Wade was offering. Recently. . it seemed like. . .good things happened. . when someone stretched out their hand to him like that. He'd had a nice outing to a cake shop with a pretty chimera; a freshling had helped him in the cafeteria; now Wade, offering to take him away for a night so his bullies couldn't find him. Offering him the chance to take all his pets with him as well. Hesitantly, with many glances between Wade's outstretched hand and his face as if to ask if he was sure, Cyril reached out to take the hand. It was warm, and slightly moist, but most of all it was comforting. Sniffing, Cyril stood up, keeping a hold of the hand offered him. "F-friend?" he asked, just to be sure he'd heard right while he'd been woolgathering.

Slowly, he lead the two of him back to his dorm, stopping several times to get reassurance that Wade did still want him to come over. That it was fine. That he really wasn't that much trouble. They didn't encounter the group that had plagued Cyril, and in the end it was just the cockatriels that went along to Wade's house. In a surprising twist, the four of them had been on their best behavior the moment Cyril had walked in, almost as if they knew he was walking on eggshells and wouldn't be able to handle the stress if they misbehaved. It took a bit more convincing for Cyril to truly believe it would be fine to go to Wade's house like this, especially since he was already at his dorm and theoretically nothing more could happen to him. In the end though, Wade had gotten his way and he'd packed up a bag and made the trip.
