Ezra liked powering up in this one park. It was a bit darker, a bit further out of the way than the usual plazas that drew powered traffic. Sometimes people would come through, but more often than not, it was empty at the time of night he went to power up. Since it was so far out and empty, one could get a good view of the stars if they bothered to look up, too. Originally, Ezra was all ready and set to power up, but then he noticed: someone was there. Probably not powered, not that he could feel them while powered down, but someone was there nonetheless. If it was just an ordinary civilian, there was no harm in going over to say hello. So he did, approaching the other person with a cheery wave. "Hey, nice night, right? And this is one of the parks where you can actually see the stars! That's great, isn't it?" A bit awkward, but it would do for now.

Seren was sitting on a blanket, staring up at the sky. She wished she could drive, or something, so that she could get out of town on weekends, go somewhere where the light pollution of the city would be muted, or gone, and just spend a night star gazing at the wonders of the universe overhead. But since she didn't have those options, for now she would enjoy this dark park in the middle of town. When she heard a voice speaking to her, she half jumped, almost knocking the tub of brownies she'd baked earlier over. She did knock the lid off, though she didn't notice, and she stared, eyes wide behind her glasses, reflecting the stars for a moment. After taking a minute to calm herself, however, she gave a tentative smile to the unknown man. "Ah... Hello. Yes. It... it's great. I'm glad this one is so close to where I live, too, so that I can visit when I'm not studying or something." She had shifted, however, so that she could watch this person. An unknown man...

Whoops. He'd managed to spook the poor girl. Good going, Ezra. "Sorry if I startled you. There aren't always other people here at this time, so I was surprised, too." Ezra took a few steps closer to Seren's blanket, but didn't come too close. He didn't want to give her any wrong(er?) ideas. "So, you live near here, huh? How far? You don't have to be too precise. It must be nice, being closer to the edge of town. Less noisy." He shifted his weight idly, trying to quash some mental fidgets. He was wondering if he should warn her about the unsavory types that passed through Destiny City's parks at night, but he decided to wait on that for the time being.

Seren watched him quietly, her expression one of polite friendliness, but her eyes held the wariness of someone who had learned to fear others, for whatever reason. "It happens, I get focused on the stars sometimes." She sat fully up, and tilted her head, considering his question. "Within a not too bad run from here. And it is nice, I guess. More to the point, it was within my budget. Decent neighborhood, but not too run down." She gave a shrug. "But the apartment complex is right on a bus line, too, which is great. You live around here?"

The way this woman was guarding herself was starting to make Ezra feel uneasy, too. Even powered-up Chaos agents faced with a White Moon senshi seemed less guarded than she did. It was making him wonder if she was hiding something, but then again, if she was powered, she probably would have transformed already... if she was Order, that is. If she was a Negaverse or Dark Mirror agent, she wouldn't be safe to power up anyway. Speculation was starting to run rampant in Ezra's head. "So you're a stargazer," Ezra said, nodding. "A stargazer with a sense of economy. Not bad, not bad at all." That probably sounded suspicious, but it was filling the space. "Well, I don't live as close as it sounds like you do, but I'm near-ish, yeah. By the way, I'm Ezra. Would you be willing to tell me your name?" He hoped that the fact that he offered his name first would defuse some of the woman's apparent suspicion and wariness.

"Living on a scholarship and what extra cash I can get from tutoring means economy is necessary." She offered, in an amused, and slightly tired, tone, though she wondered why he sounded a little suspicious. Was there something going to go down in this park that she should be aware of? Was he a cop in disguise, making sure SHE wasn't going to do something? It made her more nervous, to be honest. He might be a man with the power to do something to her... She considered his offer of his name, and his request, then her expression gave a 'why not' sort of shift, and she nodded. "Nice to meet you, Ezra." She took a slight breath, then added "I'm Seren Yong. I study Astrophysics at DCU." Maybe if she told him more about herself, he'd be less suspicious? She grabbed one of her brownies out of the tub, and began to nibble on it, hoping the chocolate would help her sooth her nerves.

"Nice to meet you, Seren," Ezra said. He wondered why it was that everything he said keyed Seren up further. She must really have been banking on that time alone. "Huh, you brought a snack, too? I knew I smelled something in the air!" He laughed uneasily, unsure if that was really her snack he was smelling. "Anyway, astrophysics? Hoo-ee. Color me impressed. Most people around here try to shoot for the easy A's. Sounds like you're in it to win it." After he said that, he figured he should try and make an out for himself, or at least give Seren a heads up that Destiny City had some secrets. "I won't keep you for much longer, but there is one thing you ought to know, if you don't know it already. There's some weird people in this city, and not always the friendly kind of weird. Keep an eye out for anyone in unusual outfits. The ones wearing white or planet symbols are okay, but watch out for anyone who's wearing black. Especially if they have what looks like cracks on their forehead. It's complicated and dangerous, but just... file it away in your head."

Seren smiled a little at him, when he noticed the brownies. That, at least, was something she felt safe over. "If you want one, you can have one?" She asked softly. "Baking is one of my hobbies, and I always like to share when I can." She shyly held the tub out to him, unsure if it was weird to offer a random stranger in the park brownies, but at the same time, he had been nice so far, even if she was nervous. "And yeah. Stars have... always been at the center of my life. My name means star, actually." The uneasiness appeared for a moment, at the mention of the past, but she kept going. "And I've always found science interesting. So I want to combine the two. I want to learn about Quasars, and study them. If I can keep my scholarship going, I want to get my doctorate." And then he gave her the warning about the people. She found herself thinking about the news, talking about terrorists and the like, and wondered if this was connected. Maybe he was investigating that kind of thing. "I... I will be careful. I'll run if I see anyone like... like you were describing. I run really well, at least. I can't fight..." Wistfullness in that. "But I sure as hell can run, and run fast and hard."

The offer of a treat was super tempting, and under any other circumstances, Ezra would have gone over to accept. However, he didn't want to keep bothering Seren, and besides, he'd have to go power up somewhere else. "Thanks for the offer, but maybe not right now. Maybe if we meet again, I'll take you up on a brownie." That seemed like a decent compromise. He nodded as he listened to the rest of what Seren had to say. "Aiming for a doctorate? I can tell from here that you're really something, Seren. You sound like the kind of person that's aiming for the stars and not likely to miss, you know?" He chuckled at his silly play on words. "If you can run, that'll help you a lot. Again, the ones in white are okay for the most part. You've got to look out for the ones in black." He began to take a few steps away. "I won't keep you for much longer. Just be careful, okay?"

Seren was actually a little disappointed when he did not accept the brownie, and nodded, eyes dropping a little. Second person recently to do so. Was her cooking going downhill, or something, and smelled bad? She managed to keep most of it hidden, though, and just smiled and shrugged. "Your loss, then! But that sounds fine, if I see you again, and have brownies, I'll share." She gave a slight shrug, and then his compliment made her blush, even as she too chuckled at his little joking phrasing. "I hope you're right. My current life goal." She had few dreams left, this one she was clinging to with everything inside of her. She watched him move away, her head tilted as she listened. Despite her nerves, and being scared, it was nice to have company, but she wouldn't press herself on anyone who didn't want to be there. She might... well no point in dwelling on THAT thought. "Ah... thank you. I will. I hope you have a good night." Was all she could think to say, softly. Sami-Fire Sure! Feel free to HMU anytime for more ;D
