Grocery shopping, in Rebecca's opinion, was always fun.
Hauling the groceries home, however, was anything but.
Her apartment was on the sixth floor, which didn't make things easier. The elevator was a lifesaver, but having to walk down the three blocks from the store, up into the apartment complex's building and then into the elevator took a lot more effort than she wanted to give. If she had her way, she'd have everything delivered, but.... well, that cost a lot more money than just doing it herself.
As she managed her way out of the elevator, the familiar trill of her phone's alert caught her attention. It was the very specific trill meant for emails, which usually meant either she'd forgotten to pay a bill on time or...
Yes!
It was an update! She'd updated her blog with a new fic!
Eyes zoomed in on the notification, her thumb clicking the provided link to send her to the site in question. She devoured her words as if they were oxygen - each story was written with such eloquence, such form, such ---
One wayward step of her tennis shoe had her tripping on carpet - it wasn't pulled up, there wasn't a snag, she simply tripped over her own two feet and in doing so, sent both phone and groceries flying. Cans and oranges and everything went every-which-a-where as the young woman landed with a shriek and a thud, smack in the middle of the hallway.

Jade had been coming home from work, the elevator dinging to signal her arrival on the sixth floor, where her second apartment lay. Out she had stepped, the weariness of everything she'd been dealing with keeping her shoulders hanging low and her own spirits dampened.
Most of the time when she got home, there was no one around for her to pretend to be bubbly and happy like her fans knew her to be.
Normally she was able to slip into her apartment easily and unnoticed but the second she stepped out the hallway was a hazard mess. Naturally, Jade hadn't noticed in time and she stepped onto a stray orange and---
BANG. CRASH
She hit the ground on her a** and groaned in response, only grateful that she hadn't hit her head. "What the hell--?"

Splayed hands were busy trying to gather wayward items, the young woman completely unaware that she was no longer the only one in the apartment complex's hallway. The paper bags were thankfully not terribly ripped so bread and boxes were shoved this way and that way back into the container as quickly as she could snatch them up. Becca would no doubt regret it later once she pulled out smashed eggs and a squished loaf of bread but ---
Oh, hell's bells.
The sudden, loud bang had her head snapping to the side, eyes wide as she watched a poor (supposed) neighbor go sailing onto the ground. The orange underfoot had been sent sailing in the opposite direction, smacking against the wall before rolling off to no doubt cause more trouble elsewhere.
"I'm so sorry, crap, crap - let me help you, crap!!"
Frantically she shoved the last can of green beans that were nearby before she scrambled her way over to the fallen girl, doing her best not to trip a second time in the process before she could offer her assistance in getting the other girl up from the carpet.
"Are you okay?? I didn't realize someone else was around, I'm sorry about that."

Her back hurt and the wind had been knocked out of her but it wasn't anything too concerning overall. She'd taken worse hits during training sessions or even scuffles when powered. Mostly, Jade was a little dazed and confused because she hadn't expected to trip on an orange of all things when she stepped off the elevator.
"It's okay..." she mumbled, already trying to sit up.
She was grateful she'd worn flats instead of heels today or she might have twisted an ankle when the orange rolled beneath her foot.
When she was offered a hand she took it, pulling herself up off the ground before stumbling over towards the nearest wall to lean against as her head spun. "s**t happens, it's not like you purposely threw an orange when I stepped off," Jade tried to assure then put on her best face before adding, "or did you?"
After a moment of holding serious face she grinned and rubbed her lower back. "Seriously though, it's fine. I'm fine."

Becca's laugh died in her throat the moment the girl's tone changed, uttering almost a snapped or did you.
"I didn't...I mean, I wou-wouldn't..." Eyes widened in startled horror - oh no, did the other girl think that she would have set out some fruit-themed trap to... oh. Oh.
The girl was teasing!!
There was a nervous giggle that followed, Rebecca offering another apology as she leaned to scoop up the haggard looking bag of groceries. "I'm sorry again. Becca Robinson, apartment 6C."
She caught a glimpse of the stranger rubbing her back and immediately felt bad. What if this poor stranger woke up with a nasty looking bruise, all because some oaf in the hallway had dropped her groceries??
"Can I get you an ice pack for that, or maybe a heat pack or... I'unno, Tylenol or something?"
Granted, she had no earthly idea how to make a heat pack out of household products but that was what Google was for - right?? It felt like her duty to at least offer, especially if the girl was going to have a gnarly looking mark all thanks to a wayward orange.

Jade had to admit it was amusing to watch the way the woman flustered. She even took the time to let her gaze slide over the woman's form as she picked up her groceries and she decided that her neighbor down the hall wasn't bad looking at all.
In fact, she looked cute when she was flustered and Jade was wondering just what she could do to fluster her.
"Jade, 6A." She offered her hand for a shake to go along with their introductions. At first, she was going to wave her concerns off and tell her new friend, Becca, that everything was okay but upon second thought...
She stepped closer, lashes lowering when she decided to make her own suggestions. "I think I have some in my apartment, but I could probably use help getting it secured if you don't mind?" There was a chance that she'd get rebuffed or turned down, which would really be fitting with how her life had been lately but if there was a chance that Becca would say yet or that she was interested in something a little more fun than first aid.
"At the very least, I could use some company."
Jade pulled away, fishing her keys out of the bag she plucked off the floor when she made her way towards her apartment hoping that her newly acquainted neighbor would come with.

Jade! That was a pretty name, like the gemstone. For whatever reason, it made Becca smile, shifting the groceries in her hands as the other girl suddenly moved to step forward. Thankfully, there were no oranges in her path this time to stop her.
Eyebrows rose at the suggestion - helping her secure the pack? Oh, that was an even better thought - it sounded like Jade already had first aid things and wouldn't need to go rummaging around for plastic bags and ice cubes to make a homemade one like Becca was going to be forced to do.
"Sure, of course I don't mind."
Offering the other woman a cheerful smile, Becca happily followed after her new neighbor, completely forgetting the fact that she'd purchased frozen goods --- rather, forgetting about them until long after they'd already melted, hours into her visit with her newest friend.
