A long, long, long time ago — in a time where no one can even remember — there used to be only Gods. Equipped with unlimited power and a domain to help run the world of Labyrinth, they enjoyed their immortality and freedom without a soul who wished to oppose them. Created by an unknown force, they only lived in fear of The Creator, a being who has never been identified but could be felt within each God born.
Life was peaceful for the most part, however boredom festers when things become stagnant, and the Gods weren't immune to it. Growing arrogant with their powers, they began to turn on one another, each for a different reason. Some wanted more powers, others wanted territory, and some were in self-defense. Either way, the once peaceful utopia became destructive in nature, and one particular God began to manipulate the already tense and disruptive Gods with choice words and unfulfilled promises.
The God of Trickery encouraged the chaos, inserting themselves where they didn't belong and in the process destroying several realms from the fights their unfortunate victims began. Seeking only to be the last one standing, they spread the war on their own kind. With their help, it seemed as if the world was about to crumble until, finally, The Creator stepped in.
The Gods were stripped of their unending power and granted mortality. Their powers and magic were to only be directly related to their domain, and a God could lose their domain and be reassigned a new one when seen worthy again. Their bodies were condensed, made far smaller than their ancestors. Lastly, those who had behaved the worst were turned completely mortal, resulting in the races typically seen today.
The God of Trickery was punished the heaviest, although not many know of how they were punished. Each reincarnation keeps from the spotlight, but it's said the domain is cursed, whether or not they deserve it.
Gods are essentially deities born to a domain, which they must govern and respect throughout their life. Their powers are directly related to their domain. Some Gods are more powerful than others. Unfortunately, due to their punishment and bodies, they live as long as any standard creature of their race. A Doggo God will only live as long as any other non-God Doggo will. Every God has a domain, however they cannot change the natural flow of their domain. A Goddess of Water will have powers related to her domain and is charged to protect bodies of water, but she cannot strip Labyrinth of water. She also, upon her death, won't stop the world from creating or using water, it simply will be unprotected until her reincarnation. A God who turns on their domain is immediately stripped of their domain, and often perish for unforeseen reasons. Only Gods can feel the pull of The Creator. Inside their chest they can feel a powerful entity that surrounds the world, but none have met this entity. Gods can pray to this entity and receive blessings in the form of extra powers or miracles they themselves cannot do, but they also can be punished for betraying their domain or abusing it.
Abuse of a domain is situational to their domain; a Goddess of Love using her powers to breed hatred and resentment will be punished for her behavior, while a God of Evil will be punished for chasing away the evil within the world. Domains are important to the world, and even if the God does not like their realm they cannot turn their back on it. They can have different personalities, and act on it differently, as long as they are not actively going against their domain. A God of Evil can simply not use their powers and turn a blind eye to wrongdoings and skirt by if they rather not actively behave evilly.
Due to this, The Creator is met with different views. Some Gods adore the presence, feeling gratitude and comfort from it, while others resent the roles they've been given and the entities influence. It is up to you, the owner, how your God feels. When a God dies their domain is left unprotected and open for a new life to take. Their powers and memories will be reincarnated into a new God who is born and given the domain. The new domain holder is a different character, but they may see the memories of previous holders in their dreams, which can get confusing.
While most Gods will receive a domain similar to their parents, sometimes a strange incident occurs where the domain they receive is completely unrelated to the parents. Some Gods claim it's The Creator will. Others say its chance. Gods can lose their domains, although the reasoning is sometimes unknown. Usually, the punishment for misusing your domain is death, but a God who simply just doesn't fit whatever unknown expectation is set on them can lose their domain and receive a new one. The process is incredibly painful, and those who have experienced it have said they wished for death during it. Losing a domain often makes a God lose their sense of reality for a time. Receiving a new one feels foreign and takes time to readjust to.
Out of character, Gods can only lose their domain if you are inactive for a year on Gaia. This means never posting in any other forum. If you are seen posting elsewhere but haven't been in Labyrinth, your domain won't be taken without permission. This is to prevent those who quit Gaia holding onto domains. If you return, you'll either be given a new domain or, if the old one wasn't claimed, allowed to keep the domain.

When you select a domain there's a few things to consider, such as whether or not it's appropriate for the world of Labyrinth, whether it's overpowered, and if it actually needs to be a domain. In the case of what is allowed and encouraged, remember; Gods are assigned their domains whether or not their personality fits, but for the most part there's a "reason" they have the domain that The Creator has arbitrarily decided on. Consider why the entity would give that specific God their domain, and if it actually fits. A God will resemble their domain in some way, as they are directly connected to it and are assigned to governor their domain. Check the Gods list and ensure it isn't already taken. This includes seeing if someone has a synonym of the title you wished for. While a Goddess of Water is different from a Goddess of Rivers, a God of Cats is not different from a God of Kitties. If you have similar domains, check that you are requesting different powers. Some can overlap depending on how similar the domain is, but have something unique.
What you should not do, however, is; Attempt to copy another God concept and change some wording around to get away with it. Attempt to get a domain not normally acceptable by using choice wording. Labyrinth allows for almost an infinite amount of possibilities (we event altered Doggos so they can use their paws like thumbs to further options!), there's no need to push the limits that are there.
Domains that oppose another are considered "opposite" domains. For example, Evil and Good are opposite domains. While the bearers do not need to feel opposition towards one another, their powers and domain directly challenge the other. This can result in some interesting interactions, and even powers conflicting when they're around one another. Domains that are unique in their own right but share part of a concept with another are considered "overlapping" domains. Water and Rivers are overlapping, as water is present and a focus for both domains. Often, overlapping domains will have one God who is more powerful and takes from the other domains. Goddess of Water could influence Rivers, Seas, Oceans, etc, while God of Rivers can only influence their own domain.
All domains should still have distinct powers and not be essentially copies of the other. The "parent" domain (Water in this example) should not completely overpower the other Gods, either. Children can inherit a power from their parent if it makes sense, and their domains are similar. If the Goddess of Fire has a child who inherits the domain of Lava, the child could also inherit a power from their parent.

All Gods have some similar powers with one another, regardless of domains. A full, comprehensive list of what every God can do is; Fly, regardless if they have wings or not Alter their image to that of a mortal for disguise Pray to The Creator, which can result in minor miracles or curses All Gods have their own powers related to their domain. They cannot, for instance, have a power that conflicts with their domain. For instance, the Goddess of Love cannot have a power related to hatred. All Gods start with three powers. To receive a new power they must RP. A system for Gods to gain new powers is still being worked on!

Gods live as long as their lesser species does. A Doggo God will live as long as any normal Doggo does (if they don't find another means to extend their life). Gems, however, are greatly important to their health and magic. All Gods come with three gems, which is the source of their magic. If a God prays to The Creator, they could potentially extend their lifespan by adding more magic to their gems if The Creator feels like it.
Unfortunately, The Creator rarely feels like it. Injured gems will cause the God to lose the potency of their magic, and sometimes even remove a few powers. The gems are incredibly hard, but injury can happen with enough force. While it's uncommon, battles between other Gods have been known to result in a cracked gem or two. Gems take years to recover. Some might never return to normal, so be careful! The more severe the wound the more it will directly alter the magic of the God. A surface scratch may only make them feel momentarily drained, while a large crater in the gem will make the God unable to use most of their powers and feel incredibly weak.
Seeking the aide of a Kyrin is very useful, as with their help a God can recover their gem within months instead of years. Losing a gem will permanently change a God. Losing one will result in losing the ability to alter their appearance, and a domain power or two. Losing two makes them unable to pray, fly, or use any of their powers. Losing three is instant death.
Once cannot bring back a gem once it's gone.

Angelic Wings: Angelic wings have feathers! They molt time to time and need constant preening to keep clean. Demonic Wings: Demonic wings are leathery, like a bat! They are delicate and can be torn, and while they'll still be able to fly it might alter directional ability. No Wings: Lack of wings is incredibly rare. Gods can still fly without their wings, but they might be limited to how far, how long, and where.
