We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
New fashion brands are emerging all the time. Digital channels are allowing designers to not just show their work, but also tell their story and connect with audiences that share their values. If you love fashion and want to see your work on the catwalk, this course can put you on the right path. Our fashion degree is the longest running fashion degree in Canada and provides industry standard facilities. You will be advised by leading industry mentors, and embrace the challenges and opportunities of twenty-first century fashion including ethics and sustainability, industry practices and emerging digital technologies. In the studio, you will develop your design identity, working individually and in teams on real-world briefs and projects. Our students have opened pop-up stores, produced fashion magazines and websites, and collaborated with leading designers such as Lydia Pearson.
This unit provides an introduction to some of the complexities of the global fashion system and is intended to provide foundational knowledge and skills for students who wish to pursue further studies in fashion communication. This unit is in the developmental stage of the program and provides you with a foundational knowledge of environmental and social impacts of fashion production and consumption. Throughout the unit you will examine the environmental and social impact of different industry business models, materials and production methods in order to develop the skills and mindset to apply more sustainable practices. This unit provides you with the opportunity to start building a portfolio of practical work to showcase your developing skills. This unit further develops your knowledge, skills and application for professional fashion communication and product development in the fashion industry. The unit focuses on commercial fashion design and product styling. The unit provides an introduction to the foundations of fashion history through a global perspective of trade, culture and style.
