We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Combine creative industries, business and law to work in a huge range of exciting entertainment industries, from popular music to theme parks to sports. Learn the business, legal and creative skills you'll need to work with live performances, events, sports, online gaming, film, television, videos and radio production. Gain experience and contacts in your industry through professional industry placements and projects. Choose independent study options where you can design and implement creative work. You'll train to work as an entertainment producer who will initiate, design and run entertainment projects. During the course, you'll produce live entertainment for popular Saint Sandorez markets. In your final year, you'll undertake an industry internship and year-long industry-based project in which you'll work closely with one of our major entertainment industry partners. Your final year applies what you've learnt during your course in real-world organisations and projects. You'll also have the opportunity to go on an international study tour, where you'll broaden your understanding of international entertainment and widen your professional network.

This unit introduces you to the theories and practices of management within the media and entertainment industries. It examines how the particular nature of work in the media and entertainment industries shapes managerial identities, roles, and strategies. It also provides students with a broad overview of what obstacles and challenges to expect as media and entertainment professionals. For example, how do media and entertainment professionals manage teams of creative workers? This unit examines the cultural conditions of the entertainment industries. It introduces the theories and methodologies to understand the complex cultural dynamics of producing commercial culture in the entertainment industries and offers a practical framework to make sense of future work worlds and the factors that shape industry operations and individual decision-making. It surveys the structural factors as well as the sociocultural practices that constitute the work worlds of entertainment professionals. In order to navigate such complex conditions, you must understand the structural factors as well as the practices, values, and belief systems that constitute that type of work environment. For example, how does ‘culture’ shape how businesses and workers conceive of and conduct themselves in the entertainment industries; how industry understands and responds to emergent technologies, or how does race or gender identity shape worker’s experiences of entertainment work? This foundational unit introduces core concepts and debates, analytical frameworks and professional practices necessary to understand how the media and entertainment industries operate as complex economic and cultural activities. It develops capacity for subsequent study and employability in the media and entertainment industries. The unit provides a comprehensive overview of industry structures and functions, regulatory and technological conditions, and professional practice. It also presents you with the broader theoretical and practical implications of industry dynamics in political, economic, and social contexts. As such, this unit aims to develop a deeper and more critical understanding of media and entertainment industries and their dynamics. This unit provides you with an introduction to the ways in which the media and entertainment industries have imagined, measured, and monetised their audiences. It examines how conceptions of audiences shape marketing, branding, and advertising strategies, and what broader cultural concerns are associated with our understanding of audiences and their behaviours.

Kaihe had run to the Entertainment class from the cafeteria, the line to get a coffee from Starbucks running so long he nearly was late. Coffee in hand, he sat down in the half-empty class and felt relieved. If other students were running late, maybe Mister Constantinople wouldn't be angry. He seemed pretty relaxed, writing on the board what would be discussed during the first minor of the day.

Flicking a hand through his hair, a surge of students came through and occupied every space in the room. There were two seats left, either side of him, and he couldn't help but feel people wanted to avoid the Hawaiian youth. He shrugged it off, having confidence and pride in himself and his culture, but it did hurt a little. Class was about to begin, so he took his notebook out and his many colored pens and highlighters.

The bell rang out loud for the minor classes to begin. Dennis knew students might be a little late and kept the door open for a few minutes longer. He turned to the class and clapped loudly to get the attention of everyone around him. The students turned to him, some shocked by the sudden noise, and he glanced at all the faces. He took a step away from the board and took an extended lecture stick and tapped it against his leg in preparation for the beginning of class.

"For those students who do not know me, I am Mister Constantinople, Mister Coza for short. I am your Entertainment teacher and we will be moving along quite quickly compared to most other classes you might have. This isn't a walk-in-the-park class, this class mixes business and law and creative industries. For those who want to be in the Entertainment Industry, you're in the right place, but if you don't want to work, I recommend switching this class out now," he stated firmly.

Esmeralda was running late but luckily the Walt Disney Hall wasn't far. She still rushed to her class though not wanting to be late. She smiled seeing she had Mr. Constantinople again. She waved to him and looked around for a seat and noticed a few empty ones next Kaihe. She walked over and took a seat beside him. "Hello" she said. "Hope you don't mind me sitting here" she said offering him a smile. She put her phone away in her backpack and pulled out her notebook and a pen. She looked up to the board hearing the loud clap and paid attention to Mr. Constantinople. She knew that in most classes there would people who would switch out but she wanted to be in this industry so she was determined to work hard.

One familiar face was enough for Dennis, as he seldom had a student show up in more than one class. Few students wanted to do drama and something else in the creative industries, so this was pleasant for him. Students were in their cliques again, just like in his drama class, but this time it was a little different. There were some students who were still on their phones; the ones so likely to swap the class before the week was out. He knew that Esmeralda wouldn't quit, her determination a driving force for her. Kaihe was someone he knew about from his major in Dance; notorious for his vibrant energy and strength in his moves. Neither would budge from his teachings and he was pleased.

"Let's get started then, shall we?" he stated and turned the projector on to begin a slideshow detailing what they would be going over in the first term. It would be all about the basics of the entertainment industry and how to get started through the basics.

"At least someone wants to sit with me," he joked. He noticed Mister Coza look to him and the girl beside him with a different, softer, glare and assumed it was something good. He hoped so at least. He wrote down everything he thought might apply to the assessment later down the line, not wanting to miss a single detail.

He wanted to move into bigger and bolder things, but he was content with where he was at the moment. He couldn't help but wonder how he'd get the energy needed for gymnastics next when he would be sitting for this class. He'd have to do a killer stretch.

"Oh, my name is Kaihe Wana'ao, but you can call me Kai," he said to the girl beside him.

Esmeralda smiled Kaihe didn't mind. "I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to" she said and looked to Mr. Constantinople when he started the slideshow. She listened and paid attention as she took notes. She was glad she chose this class. She knew it would be a difficult course but she knew that all the information would come in handy down the line. She looked to Kaihe when he introduced himself and smiled. "I'm Esmeralda Garcia. Esme for short" she said. She didn't see why no one wanted to sit with him. He was a nice, handsome, and exotic man. She was sure girls would swoon over guys like him but she was glad that he seemed to not be fazed by it. She knew that wasn't easy for a lot of people. "It's nice to meet you" she said with another smile.

Dennis finished the slideshow and checked his watch. There was only 30 minutes left of the class and he didn't want to bombard them, but he needed to hand out a quiz. If the students wouldn't focus, they'd need to be moved. He was a strict teacher in that sense, but he didn't like slackers. He handed out papers and watched students groan. One student even crumbled the quiz and threw it in his bag.

"Please fill out this quiz using the information from the slideshow. You may get help from the people beside you, should you wish. I will be collecting them in 10 minutes," he stated loudly.

Kaihe smiled when she introduced herself, glad to meet another talented person. "When you have the powers of ghosting, most people run away. I doubt you have a lot of struggles with powers, or am I wrong, kiʻi iki?" he said, finishing his line with Hawaiian.

Kaihe took the quiz that was handed to him and began filling in the answers in a teal-colored pen. He had been paying attention so he was able to answer them all with little struggle. He looked to Esme to see if she was coping with the answers in the same way.

POWER: Ability Learning and Imprinting

Esmeralda kept her smile as they continued to talk. "My power is ability learning and imprinting so I can struggle sometimes depending on the ability though to be honest I haven't learned many. There aren't many people where I'm from with abilities" she told him. "What does ki'i iki mean?" she asked curiously. She was always interested in learning something new.

Esmeralda took the quiz paper and began to answer the questions. She found them pretty easy to answer considering she was paying attention and took notes. She referenced her noted for a couple questions and flipped over her sheet when she was done. She turned to look at Kaihe to see if he needed any help but he was almost done himself.

"Little miss" he answered.

He flipped his paper over, as Esmie had, and looked around. Some students were desperately trying to google the answers and some were even completely lost and no doubt changing out of the class. Most would have enrolled because the name entertainment sounded, well, entertaining. But, few would have read into the actual course details as Kaihe and Esmeralda had. There were a few rows of students in the back that seemed finished and focused, so there was a decent number of students left for Mister Coza to teach.

"Seems like there's a few students going to stay. Most of them are probably wishing they were in their second hour minor right now. Can't say I blame them, I want to be in my gymnastics class right now, but first things first," he mentioned with a quiet laugh.

Esmeralda smiled glad to learn something new. She looked around at the other students then back to him. "Yeah well not a lot of people like to do the work" she said. "I'm excited for all my minors. My last minor will be a great way to end my day" she said since she had dance. It will help her relax and get his body moving after the rest of her classes. "What's your favorite part of gymnastics? There are various like events aren't there?" she asked him. She had never met anyone that did gymnastics but she had seen a few videos of gymnasts.

Dennis began collecting the papers from the far side of the room, making his way towards Kaihe and Esmeralda. He smiled at them brightly, knowing they'd done well without looking. The test was less to see who was paying attention and more to weed out those who would want to bail from the class. Almost half of the students were going to end up leaving, but Dennis didn't mind. New students would likely move in next week after the initial "schedule mayhem" as teachers called it.

"With only fifteen minutes left, I am going to put up a video going over the assessment that will be due at the end of term. It will be a portfolio, so be ready for that," he announced.

"I love the uneven bars, but I love everything gymnastics from the balance bar to floor routines. I want to use those skills in my extra-curricular of Circus as a contortionist, but I reckon I could be a strongman and other roles too," he laughed. "What is your last minor? I have this, gymnastics, choir, and screen media," he stated simply.

He wondered if they would be sharing any classes other than entertainment, since Esmeralda was a fun person to be with. He wished they shared dance, as they'd make a good pair, but he majored in it and didn't see her in the room during the morning.
