I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them. Our course content reflects emerging developments in healthcare and nursing practice that have been identified through consultation with industry partners, discipline experts and research literature. Foundation studies build your knowledge in key areas of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, and will introduce you to professional nursing practice and contemporary healthcare service. You will also develop an understanding of pharmacology with an emphasis on quality use of medicines. These studies are complemented with opportunities to apply nursing theory to clinical practice in our on campus facilities and in clinical placements off campus. Graduates of this degree are prepared to excel in a profession where the scope of practice is expanding and there are greater responsibilities for delivery of more complex interventions in a range of healthcare settings and across diverse populations. Our course recognises the increased demand for graduates who understand the importance of person-centred care and have the capacity to engage people as informed partners in their health care. Our campuses offer operational hospital rooms where you will practise with real equipment and the latest technology in a simulated environment. Your experience in real industry settings begins with an observation activity during first semester of first year and continues with clinical placement experience every semester thereafter. You will complete 840 hours of placement, undertaken in the Medical Facility on campus, with extensive support that includes continual feedback on your performance from clinical facilitators, and mentoring relationships with registered nurse mentors. You may also have the opportunity to apply to travel overseas and provide health services to communities in developed and developing countries.

Noah had walked into the classroom and saw the teacher, Miss Joanne Welker, sitting at her table. He took a seat near the front and began setting his notebook and electronics out. Joanne smiled at him and he made general small-talk, but nothing extravagant to avoid being a pest on the first day. He settled in and looked to new students walking in and taking seats at the back. The classroom was a classic auditorium style, suitable for medical students, but with larger desks than a casual auditorium to allow more expansive note-taking. It was going to be a very interesting hour, to try and get through so much detail at once. Nursing was something you couldn't do slowly, it needed to be fast-paced or the nurses you would be training would crack under pressure. Noah himself was ready for this, but the amount of students who walked in with a single notepad and scrolling through Facebook lead him to believe most would be dropping out before the term was over. He knew, unlike most students, in the first week a student could swap only a single minor. He was content with his schedule, spending hours tailoring it to perfection and everything.

Jace rushed as he traveled through the shadows not wanting to be late to his nursing minor. He stayed in the shadows waiting for people to walk past before walking out of the shadows not wanting to scare anyone. He was sure his dark aura already made them uneasy. He fixed his backpack strap and walked inside pushing up his glasses as they slipped down his nose. He noticed the students picking seats in the back but he would rather be up front where he could see and focus better though everyone did seem to stay away from him. He didnt expect anything less but you would think in a school full of people with abilities they would be less judgemental. He sat in his seat putting down his bag and pulling out his textbook and a notebook.

Noah recognised Jace from earlier, him being the person that the celebrity athlete had gone over to talk to. He didn't want to bother or pester him, but he waved to show he was being nice. The other students were chattering away about mindless topics; who they wanted to date and what they wanted to do in the next class. How many students actually wanted to be in this class? It seemed like only a handful, as clicking pens in the background was a sign of impatient students ready to start. Joanne begun the class, introducing herself and what the class of nursing would be about. Their first unit in the course would be professional ethics and cultural awareness amongst staff and patients. Not as entertaining, but vital for a good nurse later down the line.

Jace sat looking at the teacher and glanced around as he waited for class to start. He felt awkward already without his partner in darkness. He noticed Noah look at him and wave and had to look around to make sure he was waving at him. He realized he was and waved back with a slightly awkward smile. He still wasn't sure how to act with people. Now he had friends a weird mixture of friends but he still enjoyed their company and the diversity of dark and Ebony's bubbly attitude. He looked to the teacher when class began and wrote down any information he felt was vital or would be useful to him.

Miss Joanne did something unorthodox and asked each student to introduce themselves, their powers, and what their powers could do for them, or against them, in a nursing role. Selecting at random, Noah was first, to be followed by Jace. " My name is Noah Ballinger. I have the abilities and disease detection and mental healing, allowing me to diagnose a patient upon first view and heal the scars left by mental disorders and psychic powers. I want to use my skills not to save the day, but aid in my actual skill of nursing," he admitted. Miss Joanne seemed happy and looked to Jace to reveal. Noah had a feeling he didn't want to speak about it, so he was interested to see how it would all play out.

Jace had not expected the professor to ask them what their abilities were. He kept his face emotionless as always as he tried to keep his emotions under control. He already could tell what most of the students would think of him considering most already kept their distance from him. He looked to the boy who had waved at him before and listened as he introduced himself and stated his abilities. Well that's perfect for him he thought. His ability was useful and could help people, especially in this field. The teacher seemed pleased as well as the other students though there were some that just didn't pay any attention. He hoped he would be last or that by some miracle class would end before he could speak but as always luck was not on his side. He felt his stomach drop when he was called next. I should have sat in the back he thought regretting his decision now. The white haired male raised his tattooed hand to rub the back of his tattooed neck. His appearance definitely would not help make this any easier which was another thought that floated through his head. He managed to keep a hold on his ability though he had to admit he was struggling with all the people looking at him and waiting for his response. To him he felt like he was taking ages to respond but it had only been a minute. "M-my name is Jace Conners" he said in his charming British accent. Perhaps the only thing the other students would actually find charming about him. "My ability is..." he paused for a moment dreading to even say it. "is darkness manipulation..." The moment the words left his lips he already heard a couple gasps and the students whispering to each other. He even noticed one of the girls that was three or four seats over move even further from him from the corner of his eye. He let out a silent sigh and quickly added. "It will not help me in a nursing role" he said. I'm sure it will scare my patients though he though to himself but realized he wasn't helping himself stay in control. Just like in Forensics he started to hear the voices from the shadows in his head as he tried to keep his emotions in check. He didn't show it but he tried to drown them out with other thoughts as he struggled.

" I disagree," Noah said to Jace when he said his power would not be helpful, " darkness would be able to allow one to understand the torment that schizophrenics suffer from, or any who have nightmares. Those who think that powers with a "negative outcome" are monsters, and I'm looking at you ladies, need to re-evaluate that any power can be used for good or bad purposes. It's what you choose to do with them." Many thought Noah coming to Jace's defense was uncalled for, the girls certainly taking offense and not knowing how to react, but Miss Joanne seemed pleased. "Well spoken. My powers are radiation manipulation, which can have damaging effects on my patients if I am not in control, but in limited doses can save lives," she softly said. Noah looked to Jace with a confident grin, making sure he knew that there was one person in the class, on the campus, who was not afraid of his powers one bit. Noah never judged, always forgiving and accepting of others. He stood by that trait and would never back from that ideology.

Jace looked to Noah when he said he disagreed and that was a surprise to him. He listened as he explained how his ability actually would be helpful in a nursing setting. He didn't even have to look at the girls to know they were not happy with Noah calling them out. Though he had to admit he had not thought about about his ability in that way. No one had ever made him think that his ability could be used to help anyone. If anything he was always told he was dangerous and if he didn't want anyone to get hurt he would need to control it. He looked to the teacher when she talked about her own ability. He looked to Noah again and saw him smiling at him and he smiled back. He would have to thank him after class for sure.

Noah felt happy with what he had done, even if it meant he scorned a few people in the class with his remarks. The medical industry was always about finding new ways to cure people who were ill. Chemotherapy is a dangerous procedure, but it can be used to keep cancer in check. Radiation was used in xrays which could identify problems. Noah knew all this, but few others did. He didn't just have this class to be a nurse, he wanted to combine it with his skills to be a professional doctor. He was stubborn in his ways, but that was just his character. The eerie tension had left the room since his outburst, but he thought it was for the better. Before, it was like you could her a pin drop, but now there was a little more life in the room. It was like opening the blinds to let in the morning light.

She was happy that someone had stood up for the boy named Jace, he seemed very nice. Her powers were useful but destructive. Her telekinetic abilities could slice and cut with ease and she had done so before accidentally. Although useful in her field of work, she needed more training with it. She sympathized with him.
When it came to her turn, she stood up and nodded at Miss Joanne. My name is Cherry Williams, and I want to be a nurse in an Emergency Room. My psychic abilities will allow much progress, but my own body fails me in one specific way. I don't think it needs explaining, she "said" in sign-language. Miss Joanne had been translating her motions to the class. A few people snickered that she could never be a nurse, but she wasn't going to let anyone deter her. If doctors could work in wheelchairs, she could work without a voice.

Jace was glad that the tension faded and the silence was broken. It made him uncomfortable though he was relieved that some the stares and looks had stopped. He looked to the girl in the back once it was her turn. He watched her signs as he listened to Miss Joanne translating. He found sign language really interesting though he came across very few who used it since he was at home most of his life though he would like to learn. He also admired her determination to not let being unable to speak be a weakness for her.

Noah was not as familiar with sign language as he would like to admit, but he was able to understand some of what she had "said" using sign language. It was one thing he was going to study up on, since Cherry seemed like the type of person he would befriend very easily. He was happy that she was determined, ambitious, yet kind. She would be a splendid nurse, with or without the ability to speak; out loud or mentally. He did feel bad, because her inability to speak didn't feel like something she was born with. It also didn't seem like a mental issue, an unwillingness, as he could tell it was something more complex with his disease detection. There were students in the class with Celiac Disease, whether they knew or not he didn't know. He wanted to see why she couldn't speak, but wanting to be a medical professional himself, in the ER as well, it was something he had to tread lightly over. He didn't want to offend or insult Cherry, or anyone like her. Just as he had protected Jace, he had to protect Cherry, even if it was his own words and curiosity.
