Following the end of the warring clans period the village of Uzushiogakure was the shining gem of Uzu no Kuni. With a prowess for the art of fuuinjutsu, the Uzumaki clan had helped to enable the construction of tall, sturdy buildings made made from concrete and steel while other nations relied on wood and stone. However, such knowledge and ability made them dangerous, feared even. From this fear came loathing and hate for the threat others felt the village represented. In the end the village was left in ruins after a devastating invasion. With the hidden village destroyed the rest of the country was soon ransacked, its residents fleeing to other lands as refugees.

The main island of Uzu no Kuni, Awajishima, quite literally fractured, leaving a deep fissure running towards the center as a result of the intense battle that took place within the old hidden village. The edges of the new valley are sharp and jagged, running deep enough into the island to be below sea level. Much of what once was collapsed into this new channel. The volcano which was responsible for creating Awajishima, controlled up until that point by the careful work of Uzushiogakure’s shinobi, once again became active; rendering remaining on the island an untenable prospect.

Scarred and returned to nature, Awajishima was a ghost of the past. A land which, among the descendants of the Uzumaki, was considered a forbidden place. A reminder of the folly of their ancestors. Beyond the old world superstition it is known to be a large island off the cost of Hi no Kuni. The seas surrounding it are affected by unusually strong tides which create the whirlpool phenomenon for which the country was named. The neighboring islands of Okinoshima, Nishinoshima, and Nakanoshima are said to be uninhabited.

However in modern times, settlers from the Land of Fire have reclaimed Awajishima. The volcano has been silenced, and towering buildings once again dot the landscape. These brave refugees from other lands have worked hard in the past several years to establish a new home. At the helm of this resettlement and taming of the island was none other than the first Uzukage, Sanae Uzumaki. However life on the island is still tenuous. While things may seem peaceful, danger lurks on the surrounding islands and perhaps on the home island as well.

x XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Laws ::

-----β–Ί Personal Rules
β€’ During events and arcs, unless otherwise specified, you will have a limit of three [3] days to post. If you do not post within 48 hours of the previous post, you will receive a PM from the kage. If you do post by three day mark you are liable to be skipped.
β€’ If you know you are not going to be able to post within the time frame [5 days outside of events, 3 during], post in the Hiatus thread, located in the main forum. Failure to do so will result in auto-hits with any attacks coming your direction, or getting skipped.
β€’ There will be regular activity checks. Failure to respond to the activity check will make you unable to post in the village.
β€’ You must turn in a mission to the mission board or the office secretary in order to receive AC or Ryo for completion.
β€’ We are following a system that divides Rank and Title. Just because you receive 2500 AC does not automatically make you a Chuunin. See the rules for Titles below for more details.
β€’ There are no auto - promotions, and you must see the kage about earning a promotion.
β€’ Remember that all actions can have both good and bad consequences.
              β€’ Most importantly, have fun!

-----β–Ί Title Rules
The Genin Ranks: All ninja within Uzushiogakure begin their career as a genin rank ninja. Within the genin rank are multiple grades which grant additional levels of trust from the village leadership and serve to recognize the strength and experience of longer serving genin. Those who do not desire a leadership role often remain a genin for their whole career. This path offers the least amount of responsibility but still rewards those who advance. Unlike chuunin and higher, advancing through the genin grades only requires meeting certain thresholds to advance.

XXXXXXXXXXGenin
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Genin cannot leave the village unless accompanied by their squad leader or someone of chunin or higher. Exception for the worker class when on jobs.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Disobedience to orders is not tolerated. Disobey and you will be punished in a way fitting the degree of insubordination.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ All missions above D-rank must be given to you by the Uzukage or your squad leader.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Becoming a chuunin requires proving yourself capable of following orders, taking on minor leadership roles, and any further conditions presented by the Uzukage.

XXXXXXXXXXGenin 2nd Grade
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Genin of the 2nd grade may leave the village with permission from the Uzukage or their squad leader.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Disobedience to orders is not tolerated. Disobey and you will be punished in a way fitting the degree of insubordination.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ All missions above C-rank must be given to you by the Uzukage or your squad leader.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Becoming a gennin 2nd grade requires achieving 3,750 AC.

XXXXXXXXXXGenin 3rd Grade
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Genin of the 3rd grade are free to leave the village after notifying the Uzukage or their squad leader.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Disobedience to orders is not tolerated. Disobey and you will be punished in a way fitting the degree of insubordination.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ All missions above B-rank must be given to you by the Uzukage or your squad leader.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXβ€’ Becoming a gennin 3rd grade requires achieving 7,500 AC and fifteen [15] missions.

The Leadership Path: Those who desire greater responsibility both in and out of roleplay should seek the path of a leader. Starting with a promotion to chuunin and then advancing through the ranks will require certain IC and OOC requirements to be met. Know that while this path is harder it can be far more rewarding. In general on top of IC leadership requirements you will be tasked with more responsibilities in leading roleplay for others.

x XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX VORTEX ::
Violent Operations Reconnaissance Tracking Extraction and Extermination

For the Village: VORTEX ninja, simply written as V-nin, are covert operatives that answer directly to their Kage. While on the job, V-nin wear masks and use code names so that their identities are known to nobody but their Kage. V-nin typically work in teams, formed based on the the requirements of the mission in order to ensure maximum success. There are no true ranks among V-nin; team leadership and hierarchy are based solely on merit and experience even while members may hold certain ranks outside of the organisation. The leaders of the teams are called squad leaders (εˆ†ιšŠι•·, Buntaichō), a position held in high regard. For Uzushiogakure's purposes, VORTEX serves as both the ANBU and the Oinin. As such VORTEX will compose the possibilities of both.

Required Experience: Chuunin title or Genin 2nd grade, "Apprentice" Medical [Job], and "Apprentice" Botany [Job] are required to reach VORTEX "Initiate". Jounin title or Genin 3rd grade is required to reach titles beyond "Initiate".
Medical [Job] may be replaced with Medical [Class] if of said class.

Experience Rewards
For 10+ VORTEX jobs, the character gains the title of "Xx VORTEX: Initiate", to be listed on the profile. (Xx being your specific type)
-_-_-_The title gives: -1 post to the E - Rank and the B - Rank missions.

For 20+ VORTEX jobs, the character gains the title of "Xx VORTEX: Regular", to be listed on the profile.
-_-_-_The title gives: -1 post to the D - Rank and the A - Rank missions.

For 25+ VORTEX jobs, the character gains the title of "Xx VORTEX: Specialist", to be listed on the profile.
-_-_-_The title gives: -1 post to the E - Rank, the B - Rank, and -2 to the S - Rank missions.

For 30+ VORTEX jobs, the character gains the title of "Xx VORTEX: Operator", to be listed on the profile.
-_-_-_The title gives: -1 post to the D - Rank, the A - Rank, and -2 to the S - Rank missions.

VORTEX Types:
V-nin, while overall deadly, can frequently be described in several different types which are labeled by their main activities. Some lean towards a few classes, like Puppeteers or Sensors, but overall the VORTEX are not picky. In addition, there is a general V-nin type for those wanting a more balanced career. When choosing one of these, please preface 'VORTEX' with the specific title.

General
The General V-nin is one who lacks a specialized purpose beyond the basics of the program. That is not to say that these members are weak, simply that they are all rounders. Do not underestimate them. General Anbu are able to convert unused technique slots to Formless slots.

Kite Master/Mistress
The Kite V-nin is a type that draws attention far away from valuables such as humans, treasures, and more, without having to perform the associated mission. Many shinobi of different backgrounds can be a successful Kite, but those who can read the opponent, figure out their limitations, and exploit them to stay one step ahead will do well: In particular, speedy shinobi or those from the Sensor class excel here. As such, the Kite V-nin can train their Special - Rank jutsu in both directions, without having to sacrifice one direction over the other. Jutsu trained as such can appear as being in either direction, or even variably over the course of one single cast! Kite Masters or Mistresses are also able to scout out locations during missions, without triggering 'once on location' effects. (such as maximum post lengths, etc)

Squad Leader
The Squad Leader V-nin is a type focused heavily around squad-based training, missions, and play. When applicable, the squads these folks are in will always include 4 total shinobi. Any missing members will be filled with V-nin NPCs. Generic npc profiles must be worked out with your Kage, and any techniques used in battle with them draw from your jutsu activation limit. Having 2+ rpc Squad Mate V-nin in a single squad means all jutsu activation limits are shared. This type allows for normally Solo missions to be performed with a squad, including Training, as well.

Police Force
The Police Force of Uzushiogakure is comprised of both shinobi and regular civilians, each part bringing their skills to the table. Working in conjunction with each other, keeping the peace is achieved. However, if not for the myriad of thoughts on law and order that each one brings, the series of complicated tunnels and paths throughout the village would not be in place for usage. As such, the Police Force are allowed an automatic escape from a home village thread if it's necessary to keep the peace, even if under assault or in battle, leading them to any other part of the village. (being restrained negates these) The secret tunnels are lined with anti-sensor materials, and can house many civilians for protection. Actions taken during emergencies will grant associated titles from the populace's good graces. Outside of emergency measures, the Police Force V-nin is close enough to civilians on a regular basis to gain one post off of all missions except training types, if civilians are used for their knowledge.

Strategist
The Strategist V-nin is the type of V-nin associated most closely with thinking, thieving, altering techniques, and having consistent, blind spot attacks. In thinking, many times footprints can become muddled, sounds are drowned out, scents fade, and chakra disperses, but not to the keen mind of a strategist. In thieving, the Strategist is able to steal the information of one known jutsu per touch, per prior post of concentration. 'Thieving' replaces the Auto-Grapple rule, and additionally requires an A-rank chakra/stamina drain per touch. In projectile techniques, such as Kami Shuriken [ Paper Shuriken ], the Strategist will always be able to target blind spots by changing the jutsu's point of origin. To achieve such, the Strategist requires but a single post of concentration, during which time they are left prone to all forms of attack. Changing the point of origin for their Jutsu is good for 3 meters' distance per title in the VORTEX job.

Medical
The Medical V-nin is a type exclusively allowed to those with the natural inclination of the Medical Class. Ordinarily, V-nin must know absolutely every part of every piece of anatomy, in order to efficiently kill their target, and then dispose of the remains. The Medical V-nin is additionally gifted with even more insight into the human body, and can produce non-lethal moves against their target with ordinarily lethal moves. Techniques trained in a non-lethal way will always be non-lethal for as long as it is known, and will be tagged as [Non-Lethal]. Non-lethal techniques are also buffed with the medical status of eiseijutsu chakra, negating the technique's normal weakness. Targets squarely hit with the now non-lethal technique simply go unconscious for a good length of time.

Monster Hunter
The Monster Hunter V-nin is the type of V-nin associated most closely with extermination efforts. Due to the proliferation of monsters, medical examinations of them have increased, leading to specialized shinobi. In forgetting about human anatomy, to further study and increase knowledge of one particular monster, the Monster Hunter V-nin can gain a rank of effectiveness against them. To gain/lose effectiveness, it takes 5 kills and an in-depth A-rank study mission of its anatomy. (no A.C./ryo reward) The #kill/study cycle is repeatable. When complete domination over a monster occurs, an exclusive title is usually given.

Eagle Eye
The Eagle Eye V-nin is the type of V-nin associated most closely with tracking, thieving, seeing through genjutsu, and having consistent, pin-point techniques. In tracking, many times footprints can become muddled, sounds are drowned out, scents fade, and chakra disperses, but not to the keen eye of perception. In thieving, the Eagle Eye can acutely judge where items are hidden on the body, what they may look like, and how heavy they may be, all from slight bumps under clothing, the target's stance, and other such subtleness. Genjutsu, which relies upon the user to make as close to reality as possible, they will find the smallest of faults. In simple throwing techniques, such as shuriken or kunai, the Eagle Eye will always find and land them upon their target. To achieve such, the Eagle Eye requires but a single post of concentration, during which time they are left prone to all forms of attack. 'Thieving' also replaces the Auto-Grapple rule, allowing for non-handheld items to be stolen (guaranteed) at one item per prior post of concentration.

Missions

Title: Disposal
Rank: E
Information: Disposal entails the complete obliteration of everything below the neck, after the target has been assassinated. This can be as simple as burning it in a very large fire, burying it hundreds of feet below the surface, or as complicated as trying to send it into space. The head is kept for the client's verification.
Solo or Squad: Solo
Minimum Posts: 3
Note: If followed by or before Erasure, treat Disposal as a D-rank mission.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Erasure
Rank: D
Information: Erasure entails the removal of all signs of battle, presence, tattered bits of leaves/clothing/weapon shards and other such needs. It may also include completely rebuilding areas, if the erasure needed means erecting a copy of a destroyed building, producing a new field of crops overnight, et cetera. It does not include providing false leads.
Solo or Squad: Both
Minimum Posts: 4
Note: If followed by or before Disposal, treat Disposal as a D-rank mission.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Track
Rank: C
Information: Trackers have a difficult job in balancing the distance away from their target, the target's actions in trying to ditch the tracker, or your own actions in covering yourself. Tracking includes learning how to interpret broken foliage, tracks in the environment, psychology of the target, and how to remain as non-visible as possible once caught up to them. Tracking is usually more demanding and difficult the further away the target is, as changes in weather will almost always erase progress. Frequent missions after catching up (or running away) include spying, assassination, kidnapping, brain washing, covering one's tracks, sleuthing, and providing false leads to those tracking you.
Solo or Squad: Solo
Minimum Posts: 6 posts. Must include another mission after catching up.
Note: Redeemable [Track] Coupon: All sensory information (jutsu, discipline, etc) is delayed by one post, for one mission or encounter, if against the user.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Detective
Rank: B
Information: Being an V-nin confers a certain amount of deducing, which helps in both kiting and figuring out a situation. Many poor decisions led on by false information have been written in history, and it's all up to the V-nin to figure out what is what! Another important point to being a detective is learning how to provide false leads to other detectives coming in behind you, without said evidence ever pointing to your involvement.
Solo or Squad: Solo
Minimum Posts: 5 posts, once on location.
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Detective] Coupon: Completely forces recognition of the user for 1 encounter.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Protect
Rank: A
Information: Protecting is a dangerous activity, as it is only able to be done strictly in home territory. High value targets, whether they be a building, area, person, or object, require protection during village assaults. By emboldening those in your squad, you're able to safely keep the targets from harm, and generally reduce chaos in an area.
Solo or Squad: Both
Minimum Posts: 9 posts, once on location.
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Protect] Coupon: 2 generic, non-bloodline or clan, B ranked V-nin shinobi are given for the duration of a home mission or encounter. For balance, they must always stay in your thread, and are of separate classes than both you and themselves. Each Anbu has 1 activation limit per post.

Title: Subvert
Rank: A
Information: Subverting is a dangerous activity, as it is only able to be done strictly in enemy territory. By confusing opposing parties, undermining town or village actions, corrupting naturally good folks to do chaotic actions, and generally reducing order in an area, the V-nin is able to more easily move about and perform other missions.
Solo or Squad: Both
Minimum Posts: 9 posts, once on location.
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Subvert] Coupon: Completely negates opposing character (rpc or npc) awareness of the user for 1 encounter, so long as only non-violent actions take place.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Assassination
Rank: S
Information: One of the most recognizable of V-nin actions, the act of completely obliterating a target--in the Bingo Book or not--is also the most widely visible one. The death of the target is also the success of the mission, which is why this is stated twice! Killing them in the shortest amount of time is the one pre-requisite to fulfilling this mission, while going over will result in the failure as will having one's identity exposed. Should the latter occur, your village will distance itself from you in all regards. Be subtle, be invisible, and never let those around the target know that they are gone until you are gone. Do not expect easy targets.
Solo or Squad: Both
Maximum Posts: 4 posts, once on location.
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Assassination] Coupon: 2 special, bloodline or clan, B-ranked V-nin shinobi are given for the duration of a mission or encounter. For balance, they must always stay in your thread, and are of separate classes and bloodlines/clans than both you and themselves. Each V-nin has normal activation limits per post.

Title: Subdue
Rank: S
Information: One of the most recognizable of V-nin actions, the act of subduing a target--in the Bingo Book or not--is also the second most widely visible one. In not outright assassinating them: traps, subtle jutsu, manipulation, the capture thereof, and maintaining the capture are all necessary to completing this mission. The death of the target is also the failure of the mission, as well as having one's identity exposed. Should the latter occur, your village will distance itself from you in all regards. Be subtle, be invisible, and never let those around the target know that they are gone until you are gone.
Solo or Squad: Both
Minimum Posts: 14 posts
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Subdue] Coupon: All descriptives fail against the user, for 1 encounter.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Special - Rank: Deception is a large part of VORTEX, so it may come to no one's surprise that the techniques they incorporate also follow the same rigid structure. Frequently, V-nin have to use jutsu inside of normal battle situations, with often wildly unpredictable results. As such, they may opt to alter a technique to appear in all circumstances as a rank lower or higher than it actually is. All this requires is for the V-nin to retrain their jutsu at the same rank, and put a [Deception] tag at the end of the jutsu name. Said training can be performed multiple times on the same technique.

x XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX History ::

Roughly ten years ago the minor villages of the world banded together in what was known as the United Hidden Villages (UHV). They formed an army largely made up of normal folks wielding chakra based technology. In addition to those main troops, the UHV fielded a shinobi corps made up of press ganged ninja from various different lands but primarily from the land of sound. The UHV then used this army to quickly spread over the land, waging war against the major powers. The Land of Fire was quickly embroiled into a protracted combat which tended to be cyclical in nature. The UHV would push into the heart of the land and assault Konoha only to be pushed back and staved off. This kind of fighting played out several times over the years. During this time of unrest numerous ninja of the village died and the village had to bear the short reigns of numerous Hokage.

Six years ago the 13th Hokage went missing during a crisis that left thousands dead. Much of the village was destroyed by an attack lead by hostile strangers from a strange land. While little was discovered about them, what is known is that they utilized some sort of mass jutsu that caused every inch of glass and sand throughout the village to erupt violently into a raging storm of silicate shards. Much about them was never discovered. The 13th Hokage, lady Takamatsu, was known to have been going somewhat mad as a result of the Kyuubi’s influence. It’s speculated by many that it was because of madness that shortly before her disappearance she appointed a genin to be her secretary with a mandatory promotion to jounin. In the power vacuum that followed many of the important matters of the village naturally fell upon that jounin’s shoulders and she quickly rose to the challenge.

Sanae Uzumaki quickly became an interesting name throughout the village as some higher ranking ninja flocked to her others were deeply offended at her quick rise to power. Of the former camp one such ninja was Nakya Shouten-Uchiha. Nakya was another young upstart who held a prominent position among those who worship the unending serpent god Nakaborous. In the cataclysmic aftermath of the attack she galvanized many to follow the ways of the great serpent. It was during a sermon in the aftermath of the attack that Nakya famously declared Sanae to be the one who would lead the people of Konoha out of their dark despair and towards their destiny. Many called this religion a cult, and pointed to the fanaticism of its followers as reason to reject Sanae’s newly forming bid for Hokage. However a growing population of the village converted to this religion and support for Sanae swelled.

The Daimyo of the Land of Fire soon put his finger on the scales and sent an emissary to demand the appointment of a new Hokage. While not much is known about the meeting itself, the information that the Daimyo would abandon the village if it suffered another loss soon spread. The elders of the village rendered their decision and Sanae was appointed as the fourteenth Hokage. She decided forgo a formal ceremony and so news of her new position spread slowly. Meanwhile the UHV increased their operations in the Land of Fire and set up three forward bases to leave the residents of Konoha only the sea to their backs and UHV forces in all other directions. It was during this time that they also began to take slaves from the Land of Fire and put them to work at these bases. The ninja of Konoha lead daring raids against the forward bases and any patrols the UHV sent out, but in the end only a bloody stalemate was achieved.

Roughly five and a half years ago the Kyuubi emerged and attacked the village. Many brave Shinobi fought and held off the fox at the gates at a great price. Of particular note was the Sand Shinobi Saiko. Despite being a foreigner he greatly aided in the battle against the fox. His help would foster a future ideal of accepting outsiders. In the end the battle was brought to a close when Nakya assisted the others in the pinning the fox down so that San could seal it away. The battle was won, but the war had been lost. With many more shinobi now dead the fighting strength of Konoha was such that defeat at the hands of the UHV and abandonment by the Daimyo was certain. In the months after the attack by the fox Sanae made a decision that was quite polarizing. Her order was to abandon Konoha and make for the ruins of Uzushiogakure. There were many that called her traitor and refused to carry out such orders. These β€œLoyalists” abandoned everyone to seek out the Daimyo and pledge themselves to him. In the end the village was evacuated, all important documents removed, and then the entire area was set ablaze.

Those still loyal to the leadership of Sanae traveled to the sea and sailed east to the remains of Uzushiogakure. However prior to this journey a summit Kage summit had been called by a man from the Land of Sound. San chose to answer the call as the newly minted Uzukage. The outcome of this summit was the formation of a coalition of the major powers and Uzushiogakure’s own Sanae being chosen as the lead commander despite her people's plight at home. A joint attack was soon carried out upon Otogakure and the village was utterly destroyed. During the battle the head of the UHV was killed and their organizational structure soon crumbled with the demise of their capital. While many factions of the UHV still persisted on the mainland, Uzushiogakure continued to raid the Land of Fire to free prisoners of the UHV and recruit them to the village. All who wished to join the new land were welcome. Especially welcome were the ninja of Sunagakre who had lost their home to disaster while their ninja were away fighting in the Land of Sound.

During the next five years the island of Awajishima was reclaimed from nature, the people learned of how to fix its decaying infrastructure, and the Land of Eddies was reborn a new. Now the nation is young but determined to survive and quickly recovering in strength. However the Empire formed by the new Daimyo of the Land of Lightning poses an existential threat to the smaller island nation, and old enemies still abound within the land of fire. Remnants of the UHV controls various footholds and secret bases, meanwhile the Daimyo of the Land of Fire still considers those of Uzushiogakure to be his subjects. His armies are preparing for war and at their command is the Loyalists who broke away from those who sought a new life.

x XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX HELIX ::
Hermetic Emissary Liaison Intelligence Xenografts

adjectives: Operatives, Informers, Intelligencers

In the Shadows: While the VORTEX operate as the sword and shield of Uzushiogakure, the HELIX are the poisoned dagger... cloaked in silence; their pierce decisive, and blinding.

More, they are... many things, and all of their facets are equally corrosive to their foes. They are an intelligence and operations agency meant to subvert their enemies to the extreme; to rule the ideology of their constituents, and disassemble the fabric of rogues and enemy villages alike. But in the most subtle, slow, and silent way, with careful suggestions and gradual operations that lead to whole lifetimes of spying. The HELIX are incredibly secretive, even withholding information from Advisers, and Sannin. Often, even their fellow comrades do not have access to a great deal of their information, with only the leader of the organization - the Adversary - and the Kage having access to their most valuable intel.

The HELIX perform many tasks for the village. They monitor shinobi to ensure that they are not spies, or traitors. They keep files on rogues and observe their movements, particularly within the Land of Whirlpools. They attempt to convert rogues to the side of the village, adding the many stragglers of the fall of the Old Shinobi Order to the loyal ranks of their village. They perform assassinations, or better yet subvert strangers to do so, train spies and build intelligence networks, and attend lavish parties among the Daimyo and his chosen advisers. They are an intelligence network with many faces, and many voices. To be a member of HELIX is to live among the shadows, but often in plain sight. Most importantly, to be a member of HELIX is to never inform others of what you do, or tell the truth. They live lies, only relaying facts to peers authorized to garner information from them. None of their actions ever become public; for this reason, they are the Kage's silent watchers, capable of the most subtle tweaks to the landscape of the world around them.

HELIX shinobi do not wear masks, as they are ironically conspicuous. Instead, they will normally wear garbs not typical of shinobi, generally more common clothes that conceal whatever armor and tools they possess underneath. They will not wear headbands, but instead hold badges in their tool pouches to be pulled out whenever they need to reveal their village and HELIX rank. This is to both remain incognito, as well as to more easily approach rogues for recruitment or deterrence.

They generally travel with one other partner or on their own, though larger groups have been made. All HELIX shinobi possess scrolls that they can use to send information directly back to the HELIX stronghold. When information is written onto one of these scrolls, a matching scroll within the information observatory of the stronghold will begin to scrawl the written information onto its surface. This is so that shinobi do not need to leave their false identities, or missions in general, in order to report back to the village.

HELIX Types:
Unlike the VORTEX, there are fewer specialized groups within the HELIX, as their role in general is that of a specialist. They are trained to be absolutely outstanding in what they do, but that requires being a master at all precepts of espionage and intelligence networking. All HELIX members must have a broad skillset. However, there is a hierarchy among the HELIX, and that is strongly followed.

Sleeper
Sleepers are the newest members of the HELIX. Unlike with VORTEX, these 'trainee' members are fully active, and engage in missions which will not potentially compromise hidden information by Uzushio. Though many of them die during this point - outed by the people they are spying on or defeated by foes - those who survive are given high praise and elevation through the ranks. Sleepers are able to convert unused technique slots to Formless slots.

Operative
Operatives are the general members of the HELIX, and serve a variety of roles. Operatives generally work within a 'network'; this may be akin to a squad, or it may simply be a large, inter-connected weave of comrades who are undertaking missions in the same general region, or field. Within this network, Operatives are equal, though they may task Sleepers and even take direct command of their missions. Many Operatives have Sleepers as allies in mission, mentoring them while also having someone available to take the fall if necessary. As the operative can now become a specialist, they may acquire one of the bonuses from whichever specialization they join.

Concordant
Concordants are higher ranking members of the HELIX, and generally organize Operatives and Sleepers, as well as taking on some of the more dangerous and skillful missions. Concordants usually determine the action plan of a given network, or multiple networks, assembling groups that work well with one another to fulfill multiple different roles. For example, they may assign a network to the Land of Floods in order to subvert a wealthy merchant cabal to the influence of Uzushio. Or they may organize and enact a large, long-term spying plan directly within a rival village. For this reason, they work with all of the specialties of HELIX, regardless of their own given specialty.

Ordinator
Ordinators are the leaders of the HELIX, and though they relay all information to the Adversary, they can act without considerable amounts of approval or supervision, by anyone. Ordinators can assign missions, promote their peers, make hasty decisions for the betterment of the village, and report directly to the Adversary and Uzukage. They are capable of immediately assuming command of any given network, and any Concordant in charge of it. They are also capable of doling out punishment and judgment upon those in the organization who have failed its standards, or who have actively betrayed or damaged their relationship with the HELIX. This includes up to execution. As a benefit, Ordinators have now worked with multiple specialties for a long time; as such, they can now acquire the benefits of two specializations, one being their own specialist sub-group and the second being one they closely or frequently work with or lead.

Adversary
The Adversary, also known as the Arbiter, is the leader of the HELIX, commanding all of its intelligencers up to and including Ordinators, and taking direct control over all four specialist groups. The Adversary requires no approval, needs not report to the Uzukage unless they feel it is necessary, and can command and control the actions of all in the organization, including the Ordinators. They are privy to all of the information that goes through the organization, the only person who can view top level information regardless of the network they are working with. They are also responsible for being the arbiter of action within the HELIX. If the organization uncovers that something must be done in a direct way - such as the death of a given enemy - the Adversary will directly lead a group of their colleagues to dispatch the targets. The current, and first Adversary and founder of the HELIX, is Shinsei Sanada. The Arbiter has access to three out of the four specialist bonuses.

Specialist Groups
Kingpin
HELIX's Kingpin operatives operate directly within and adjacently to the underworld, including rogues. Whether this means forging alliances, deterring attacks on the village or taking control of underground trading structures, their activities greatly assist the safety and economy of the village. They are also known to be the violent arm of the HELIX, often encouraging criminals, rogues and mercenary organizations to engage in combat on behalf of the village, or simply assassinating foes themselves. Kingpin may access rogue missions at a single rank higher than their body rank.

Architect
The Architect are builders of narrative, and cleaners of unfortunate incidents that HELIX wishes to withhold from either the public, or a particular organization or foe. They will often be called by the Arbiter to clean up incidents or shape narratives for incidents already uncovered by the general public, that may shine unfavorably towards the Kage, shinobi or any allied group. For this reason, they have operative control over the media and press, and work directly to forge the public image to retain order within the village. They are also authorized to tamper with crime scenes and destroy evidence, including the entire crime scene itself. As they are shinobi, their other role is -- importantly -- to actually investigate high-impact events and shinobi deaths, often working with Constables to hunt down or subdue internal or external actors. Architects possess toolkits that allow them to visibly alter the appearance of the things they work on, using a C-rank technique ( listed on their profile as "Architect: Narrative Shift" ) to augment the properties of the toolkit to rapidly alter things they touch based on the Architect's will. This includes the physical appearance of themselves or others. For this reason, they often work with Ipseity to create perfect disguises, and can paint over scenes to shift their narrative.

Ipseity
Ipseity are, simply put, incredible spies - highly trained, known for being some of the greatest in the world. They often take on missions lasting up to a decade, and sometimes even more, assuming wholly different identities and playing a role flawlessly. Generally, they are planted into different villages, and do not often spy on or directly interact with rogues. Ipseity can heavily suppress their chakra signature via an A rank ninjutsu technique known as "Ipseity: Suppress", and must not use their chakra afterwards in order for this suppression to be maintained. While maintained, their chakra is much more difficult to detect, even at a close range (requiring focus by the sensor), and can be disguised to appear as someone else's. This also prevents the immediate determination of the Ipseity's kekkei genkai and other such factors.

Constable
Constables work as internal 'auditors' and police both the village and the organization, and are even sometimes called to investigate issues within VORTEX. They manage risk for the village and work as indirect enforcers of the law, or perhaps more accurately, the Kage and Arbiter's law. They ensure that the Kage's agenda is being fulfilled, and are capable of taking direct control over other branches of law and enforcement for specific tasks at the Kage's behest. This is typically done in secret, as they will silently approach the leader(s) of a branch of law and command them to enforce their will. Constables have immediate and unfiltered access to information regarding shinobi within their village, and can view the specific combat information of said villagers, even including individual techniques they may know. As ex-Uzu rogues are often heavily observed by Constables and Ipseity, even rogues may have their general progress and statistics view-able by Constables.

-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Processing
Rank: C
Information: Processing is the act of returning someone to the 'fold' through intensively manipulating their perceptions of the world. It is a very pernicious method of brainwashing, enacting many different psychological forms of manipulation in order to successfully veer someone to mental submission, such as gaslighting. Processing is often enacted upon members of HELIX who are suspected of being ideologically opposed to an action performed by the group.
Solo or Squad: Solo
Minimum Posts: 6 posts
Note: Redeemable [Processing] Coupon: Delays the user from being manipulated by genjutsu for one post, for one mission or encounter.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Information Overload
Rank: B
Information: An enemy or untrustworthy organization has discovered village secrets. Infiltrate their intelligence network and overload their operatives with even more secrets, all of them fake, in order to obscure the genuine truth from the sea of falsehoods.
Solo or Squad: Solo
Minimum Posts: 5 posts
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Information] Coupon: Acquire information regarding the kekkei genkai, class and elements of one opponent for one encounter.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Subvert
Rank: A
Information: Subverting is a dangerous activity, as it is only able to be done strictly in enemy territory. By confusing opposing parties, undermining town or village actions, corrupting naturally good folks to do chaotic actions, and generally reducing order in an area, the HELIX shinobi is able to more easily move about and perform other missions.
Solo or Squad: Both
Minimum Posts: 9 posts, once on location
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Subvert] Coupon: Completely negates opposing character (rpc or npc) awareness of the user for 1 encounter, so long as only non-violent actions take place.

Title: Loyalty
Rank: A
Information: Total loyalty, even among shinobi, is merely a dream. A dream that - if awoken from - demands reconciliation. This is a mission assigned to Informers when a shinobi is either suspected of disloyalty, or remains in uncertain footing with the Kage or Adversary. This mission is often invoked when the loyalty of a higher-ranking member of the village is put into question, and even Sannin and Advisers are not excluded from the list of targets this mission may be performed on.
Solo or Squad: Both
Minimum Posts: 9 posts
Note: This mission can be performed on NPCs like any other mission. Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Loyalty] Coupon: 2 generic, non-bloodline or clan, B ranked HELIX shinobi are given for the duration of a home mission or encounter. For balance, they must always stay in your thread, and are of separate classes than both you and themselves. Each ninja has 1 activation limit per post.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Title: Narrative Artist
Rank: S
Information: With your village at risk at the acknowledgment of certain information, you have been tasked with shifting the narrative by any means necessary. This can include twisting the truth, manipulating the media, or hiding evidence. Whatever the case, you must be thorough.
Solo or Squad: Both
Maximum Posts: 4 posts, once on location.
Note: Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Narrative] Coupon: All descriptives fail against the user, for 1 encounter.

Title: Loyalty Betrayed
Rank: S
Information: When a shinobi is discovered to be disloyal, or a contact is no longer considered valuable by the Kage, there are two actions that may be taken: reconciliation through intense processing, or the minimizing of their negative impact through their immediate and carefully orchestrated disposal. This mission involves both killing a disloyal village shinobi or ally (such as an allied rogue), and either completely erasing evidence of their passing, forging a false story behind their disappearance, or creating a narrative that paints the village in the greatest light.
Solo or Squad: Both
Minimum Posts: 14 posts
Note: If done as follow-up to the Loyalty mission, reduce post count by 5. Does not give advancement credit, but adds it to the ryo. Redeemable [Loyalty Betrayed] Coupon: 2 special, bloodline or clan, B-ranked Operatives
are given for the duration of a mission or encounter. For balance, they must always stay in your thread, and are of separate classes and bloodlines/clans than both you and themselves. Each Operative has normal activation limits per post.
-_-_-_β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹ β—‹
Special - Rank: The ability to escape and avoid is highly important to the HELIX, as any of their shinobi carry information that is incredibly valuable to the village. As a result, they are trained to be capable of body flickering one more time than other shinobi, per combat encounter.
