While going on a trip was one of the most lovely of feelings, returning home and being forced to unpack was far, far from lovely.
The glitz and glamour and shine of hotels and foreign cities took away the excitement of returning back to ordinary and everyday, but Prissy couldn't help but feel a small sense of normalcy and the comfort that came with it.
It took nearly an hour to organize her belongings back into place, then sort through the various packages she'd brought with her from overseas and the ones they'd had shipped to meet them upon their arrival home. Her already expansive closet was growing closer to being full - yet another issue in need of addressing.
The biggest issue, however? The fact she had been home for hours, literally and had yet to be greeted by a familiar fuzzy face that she'd missed terribly. Finding his hat on the bed had been troubling, her sweet little best friend failing to respond to any of her attempts at contacting.
He…He hadn't replaced her, had he?

In the days that had passed since Missy Prissy had informed him that he would not be accompanying her on her trip overseas, Theodore had left behind his hat (he wasn't worthy of it after all) and attempted to strike out on his own. His mistress had intended to leave him behind and trick him into being okay with staying instead of being upfront with him.
She'd also lashed out when he'd wanted to curl up and lick his metaphorical wounds too and Theodore had felt completely.
Enough so that he'd felt that she'd rather not see him.
He was a terrible guardian to his precious senshi and a worse best friend to the most important woman in the world.
He was still licking his wounds.

By the time she'd finished unpacking (and stored her suitcases away, to boot) there was still no sight nor sound of any little pitter patters belonging to the best little set of paws in the house. Momewrath and Silk were here and there but there was no bow-tie toting Theodore to dismissively snub his cute little nose in the air at the inferior felines of the abode.
Had she driven him away?
He hadn't answered any of her facetime calls. Skype had been ignored. The home phone had been left unanswered, save for one hang-up (that Prissy suspected was due to Silk, though she lacked the proof). And, with his hat still sitting there in her room, the pinkette could only fear the worst for her friendship with the Mauvian.
With her back against the headboard to her bed, fingers gently traced the rim of the tiny little top hat. The trip had been lovely, but not if it had cost her one of the most important friendships she'd ever had.
How could she prove she was worth staying around for?
Her nose wrinkled as she thought about it for a few minutes before an idea came to mind - oh! Maybe she'd make him something? One could always purchase presents, but some of the best ones came with the sentimental value of knowing they'd been handmade... right?
Bare feet fell to the floor and she dashed across the carpet towards the hallway. The first stop on her little adventure? The kitchen.

He hadn't strayed very far from the Black Manor, or was it a mansion...he didn't know what the difference was, in the time that Miss Prissy had been away. It was impractical to think that he could get very far on his own without being toted into town by one of the other pack members. While he was certain that Miss Suri would have retrieved him if he had asked, he knew that his mistress cared little for the surly woman and that could only cause a greater divide between the two of them.
So, he wandered the neighborhood.
Well, he had tried to but the Black's estate stretched much further than he had realized and there was so much space between it and the others that were in the general vicinity. Which had ultimately led him back onto the property of that stupid man who wouldn't let him come and convinced his mistress to lie to him.
If Prissy looked outside one of the kitchen windows, she might've caught a glimpse of him.

There were a lot of things that Prissy felt she was good at. She took the best selfies. She had a wonderful fashion sense. She felt she was pretty stellar when it came to bedroom antics and doing makeovers.
One thing that Prissy had never felt truly confident in was experimenting in the kitchen, but today was going to be different. Today, she held the confidence in knowing that what she was making was going to be spectacular - maybe even spectacular enough to win back the affection of the little cat that was still nowhere to be found.
She'd pulled out various ingredients from the fridge, uncertain of their age or state of freshness. Most of the things looked fresh - the milk didn't smell sour, the eggs looked like eggs and sugar didn't go bad... did it?
Prissy had even pulled out her upmost secret, secret candy stash from its hiding place, the little bag still decently sized from when she and Teddy had taken a trip to the large candy store in the mall outside of Destiny City. There had been peppermint bark pieces and sweets that had made the little Persian practically drool before, so adding them into the cookie mix would make it taste even better, right?
At least, that's how she felt in theory.
Ingredients were dumped into the large mixing bowl, a few eggs here, a cup full of flour and then another. Some milk, some candy, some sugar... it's what dough was made out of, right? At least, the few times she'd seen her nanny baking, she was pretty sure that was all the recipe called for. Her phone was all the way back in her bedroom and she didn't exactly feel like trekking all the way back just to look up some stupid easy recipe.
As she continued to try to stir the sludge in the bowl, eyes glanced up towards the window as a dark shadow caught the corner of her eye.
Wait... Teddy?
The bowl clattered on the countertop, abandoned in her urgency to dash out towards the sunroom door. Messy, flour covered hands were wiped absentmindedly on her designer clothing as hands soon began scrambling to twist open the doorknob.
"Teddy? Teddy, sweetheart - is that you?"
Naked feet were forced to feel the weird sensation of grass beneath fair skin but she ignored the strangeness in lieu of almost tripping her way towards the little hat-less Mauvian.
"Teddy, oh my god - I thought you'd... I thought you might have...."
She couldn't even breathe the horrible thoughts aloud that she'd been worried over.

He had paused in his trek as he tried to decide where he was going to take up residency for the rest of the day. He could trek back towards the pool house...or maybe it was a guest house, Theodore didn't know, or he could make himself at home beneath the stairs that led to the backyard like he'd done the night before. He'd found some blankets that he'd dragged over to make a nice little bed for himself the other day and--
Teddy?
Only one person called him that (only one person was allowed to call him anything other than Theodore) and his ears perked up even as his body froze.
Pink eyes were wide when ears flattened against his head.
"Hello Miss Prissy," he said.

The pinkette froze in her tracks as she watched his ears fold down, a clear and obvious sign that the cat was not as relieved and happy to see her as she'd felt towards him. Seeing his ears also made her wonder something else...
"Teddy, why did you leave your hat?"
It was one of the most prized possessions the Persian had doted on.. or at least, Prissy had thought it was. He never went anywhere without his hat and bristled on the spot if anything happened to it. Memories of trying to chase down the mangy orange furball to retrieve it had come to mind... but he'd left it behind, intentionally?
Was he done being her little candy man?
Sinking slowly to her knees, her hands moved down to rest on her knees as pink eyes watched him intently. Biting her bottom lip for a moment, Prissy's shoulders sank as she murmured, "I'm sorry, Teddy. Please don't hate me."
Distress took over her usually flawless features as she continued, "I shouldn't have said all those cruel things to you before I left. I've...I've missed you terribly."

Theodore was quiet, uncertain of how to respond to his mistress's question. He had thought that it was obvious, because Miss Prissy had, to him, made it clear that he was unworthy and she had said things--
She had left him.
Sure it had really been the fault of her stupid boyfriend but she hadn't even tried to be honest with him which meant that she didn't trust him with the truth. And that mean that he had failed as a guardian to his beloved senshi.
"I thought you didn't want me anymore." His voice was soft and his gaze had dropped to the concrete beneath his paws. Even his tail drooped when he made the admission. "I am not good enough to be your guardian, it was my resignation."

She frowned. Fingers tugged at the ends of her skirt as she listened to him, pink eyes watching shamefully at his reaction and responding to ones of her own. It didn't matter that she was wrinkling her clothes, it didn't matter that her knees were getting scraped and dirty.
”I thought you didn't want me anymore."
“Teddy, n-no. Baby, I was upset, I shouldn't have said those things. It… you didn't deserve to be put through that.”
She took a breath, fighting back tears and failing. So it was true, he was going to leave her. Her most loyal fan, the only friend who she'd known would always side with her. Heck, she never even had to share his love - it was unquestionable. If she hated Suri, then he avoided Suri. If she chose peppermint with her cocoa, he had peppermint with his cocoa. They were inseparable…
...until she'd separated them.
“I'm the one who doesn't deserve you.”
The comment was barely above a whisper, fingers curled into the skirt as she stared down at her own knees. Still, Prissy was inherently selfish, so quietly she pleaded, “Please don't leave me. I need you.”

It wasn't possible for his ears to flatten further against his head and yet they still tried. He didn't know what to do from here, where he could go or how he could leave when she was right there and all he wanted to do was to throw his furry body into her arms and nuzzle her.
What was a mau to do when their bonded had no need for them any longer?
But then Miss Prissy was saying all these confusing things and he looked up, eyes wide and his tail flicking with uncertain hope. "Do you mean--?" He hesitated, sniffling and letting his little nose twitch before he was throwing himself in her arms anyway.
"If you need me, I am here Miss Prissy. I won't let you down!"

She feared he'd walk off, that he'd already made his decision to leave altogether when a furry black blur came out of nowhere and jumped into the open space between her arms. It took her a moment to gather her wits but the young woman managed to catch him in time, slender fingers burying themselves in warm, dark fur as she lifted him up.
Foreheads met and then she nuzzled him back, remaining tears slipping away as the distress melted into a smile. "You never have let me down, sweet baby, and I won't let you down again either, I promise."
She cradled him for a few minutes, trying to catch her shaky breath as her emotions reigned themselves back in. Prissy had never considered her Mau disappearing from her world and the thought had shaken her far worse than she'd ever imagined.
Rising to her feet, she kissed the star on his bare forehead as naked feet turned back towards the back door.
"First thing's first, my handsome little man; let's get your hat back on."
And with that, the candy duo disappeared back into the Black Manor, the pinkette refusing to let the Persian out of her grasp for the rest of the afternoon.
