The Painted Egg
Prompt 1

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Spring has arrived in Tendaji; in most places flowers were blooming while others might only see a slight temperature increase. The weather was nice so you decide to take a stroll. As you leave town and enter a small clearing, you notice strange colorful dots all throughout the grass.

"Oh stop right there!"

Freezing, you stop with your foot hovering just a breath above the grass and then as you slowly take one step backwards you notice that something colorful had been nestled against the ground. What was this? A Gaein girl comes forward and offers a big smile, "Thank you for stopping! You nearly crushed the egg." From there she explains that the whole field is full of colorful eggs that she had spread out for the villagers to find. Apparently in Belrea this time of year is a time for festivities and one of their most popular games is finding brightly dyed eggs that children create with their parents who later hide them away. As a member of the Academy she had been granted permission to come and share this knowledge with those in Tendaji and so offers to allow you to play with those already shifting through the wide expanse of fields.

[ Roll a 1d20 to determine what happens during your hunt!]

8. You find a total of 10, totally normal, painted eggs!
9. You find an extra large egg hidden in some tall grass. Later, it hatches into a Xaraan!
10. You're a little late to the party, all the younglings have already gathered all the eggs before you even got a chance, how sad!
11. You find a total of 5, totally normal, painted eggs!.
12. You hear a quiet scratching noise coming from a slightly larger painted egg you just picked up. It later hatches into a Sailscale!

14. As you're walking, you hear a strange noise coming from the bushes. A keldari pops out at you! Whether you get startled or just shoo it away, a few eggs fall out of your basket and crack as they hit the ground.
15. You find a total of 3, totally normal, painted eggs!
16. You're walking towards a particular egg when you feel something beneath your foot as you take a step. Whew! Close call, you move your foot and the egg remains unharmed and you add it to your basket!
17. You find a total of 15, totally normal, painted eggs!
18. You feel your basket start to wiggle a bit and then hear giggling. As you look down, you see a youngling taking your eggs! They make off with 4 of your eggs before you have a chance to stop them!
19. You find an unpainted egg. Figuring it's not a part of the egg hunt, you leave it alone and continue on.
20. It seems that something is weird about one of the eggs you've picked up. As you stare at it the egg begins to wobble and even glows from the inside?! It later hatches into a Sitara!

Gael was still getting to know the Yaeli natives, as they would allow, since he had stepped onto their shores. Being that he worked as a ship hand now he got to experience the wonders of the island for a few months at a time. This just so happened to be one of those times. It was interesting to say the least. The people were much different from him but then again, so were the Obans back home.

After a hard days works he thought a walk would do him some good. The fresh air would certainly be welcomed and if he was completely honest, he enjoyed the walks he took. Mainly because they allowed for him to see others and possibly find conversation with someone other than his sweaty shipmates. Not that they weren't good company. Gael just wished for something more from time to time.

As he walked he took notice of a few villagers scrounging around in the grass. It was a little odd to see so many at once doing it so he moved toward one to see if he might be of assistance in finding whatever it was they were looking for. However, he was stopped before he got that far by the voice of a young woman telling him to stop where he was. Not knowing if he had perhaps offended one of the people he did as he was told and turned his head toward the young lady that had so commanded him. What he saw was not a Yaeli native at all, but one of the peoples that had come from the strange land very far away that they called Belrea. What struck him as odd is that this girl, with her dark skin and green hair, was walking away from a Yaeli child who was all smiles and giggles.

How had she managed to be so accepted by the superstitious and he had not? “Pardon me, did I do something wrong?” He asked when she was in front of him.

“Not at all, but you almost stepped on the egg.” Her hand pointed down and his eyes followed. What he saw just in front of him was an egg painted with dazzling colors. It wasn't a natural color or pattern, that much he was certain of, but it was a natural egg. The size and shape suggested to him that it might belong to a tintural.

“Sorry. Why is it colored and not in it's nest?” Gael had to admit he was curious.

The young woman then went on to explain about a tradition passed down through the generations in Belrea. What he gathered is that it was meant to be fun for everyone and was meant to bring people together. It wasn't such a bad idea, the only thing he couldn't understand was... why eggs? Why not color rocks? It was certainly safer than stealing eggs from the many beasts of Tendaji. After giving her explanation the lady walked off to do something else in relation to her strange custom and he simply watched her.

Once she was seen to be busy he took a deep breath and then looked around. The Yaeli seemed to be enjoying themselves. Even if they did not trust outsiders. So Gael figured it was a harmless game and he took to scouring the ground himself. The Matorian soon found himself enjoying the hunt. It gave him something to do that was beyond his normal daily grind, a small gift he was ever grateful for, and was rather fun to try and distinguish the native colors from those of a possible egg. Not as easy as he thought it might have been. Yael was full of fungi that had brilliant colors so it was certainly a good place to hide bright colored objects in plain sight.

When he finally spotted one he moved over to retrieve it. As he plucked it from the ground he noticed something strange about it. The weight was off. It was curious enough to make him furrow his brow in confusion. Gael turned it over in his hands a few times, looking over and trying to figure out what it was about the egg that had him thinking it so odd, when he noticed a crack. Or was it a seem? The line was so straight and appeared to go around the whole of the egg. So he took each side in one hand and pulled it apart. The fact that it opened was surprising enough but when something fell out of it and landed in the palm of his hand (barely) he dropped one half of the egg. As he stared down at what was in his hand he soon recognized it for what it was. A vial of “The Eye of the Goddess.” An expensive, rare, and very sought after elixir that had the power to change one's eye color. He'd only heard stories and rumors of such a thing. Gael never dreamed that he would ever have such in his possession. When reality hit him he covered the vial with his other hand and looked around to make sure that no one else had noticed what he had found. After he was sure no one had he tucked it away and turned to return to his ship. He had much to think over now.
