Spring has arrived in Tendaji; in most places flowers were blooming while others might only see a slight temperature increase. The weather was nice so you decide to take a stroll. As you leave town and enter a small clearing, you notice strange colorful dots all throughout the grass.

"Oh stop right there!"

Freezing, you stop with your foot hovering just a breath above the grass and then as you slowly take one step backwards you notice that something colorful had been nestled against the ground. What was this? A Gaein girl comes forward and offers a big smile, "Thank you for stopping! You nearly crushed the egg." From there she explains that the whole field is full of colorful eggs that she had spread out for the villagers to find. Apparently in Belrea this time of year is a time for festivities and one of their most popular games is finding brightly dyed eggs that children create with their parents who later hide them away. As a member of the Academy she had been granted permission to come and share this knowledge with those in Tendaji and so offers to allow you to play with those already shifting through the wide expanse of fields.

It was one of the few times that Devika had wandered away from home by herself. It wasn’t that she was a homebody, just that she tended to do things with brother. But, since he left, she was on her own now. Devika made her way inland of course, always opting towards the path away from water. As she wandered, Devi looked up to see a clearing surrounded by trees. She heard the laughter of children and as she looked around she noticed kids and adults alike running around the field. They’d stop every so often and pick something up, look at it for a few moments, and then put it in a basket and continue on their way. The girl’s brow furrowed as she decided there must be something going on that she needed to know about! As she began to hurry into the meadow to ask some of it’s occupants what they were doing she was stopped mid step by a voice. “Stop right there!” Devika did as she was asked and didn’t move an inch. Well, she took a few steps backwards which the woman didn’t seem to mind. A geian woman was approaching her, as the source of the voice got closer and the water girl was able to make out features. “I’m sorry?” Devika asked confused. The woman smiled and pointed towards the ground. “Thank you for stopping! You nearly crushed the egg." Devika looked towards the woman’s pointing finger. Sure enough, on the ground was a pretty pink egg! “Where I come from,” The woman began, “We paint eggs like this as a tradition as a family for the kids. And then the parents hide the eggs for all the children to find! Then we have very colorful eggs to eat for the next couple of days.” The woman was cheerful and happy, already seeming to have forgotten that Devi almost stepped on one of the eggs. “Please feel free to join in on the festivities if all these kiddos haven’t already found them all!” The woman winked and pointed towards the ground again as a friendly reminder. “I think I will!” Devika said happily. How exciting! Belrea must be a pretty exciting place, too bad she’d never go there and experience it for herself!

Devika bent down to kneel on one knee as she went to pick up the pink egg she had almost stepped on! As she went to do so, the egg moved just out of her reach. “Uh..” Devika said softly as she reached for it again. Once more, the egg moved out of her reach. “Eggs can’t walk, get back here!” Devika scolded the egg as she threw herself at it. And then the egg began to fly. The prentice stood up and waited a few moments, dumbfounded as the egg floated about waist high. Upon further inspection she noticed tiny little hands on each side of the egg. “Is it…hatching?” She asked herself and once more knelt down to look underneath the egg. In doing so, she discovered a pesky little sprite, just a shade darker than the egg, holding it up from underneath. What a pesky little sprite! She’d have to outsmart it if she wanted HER egg, and now it definitely had to be hers. Devika didn’t care about any of the other eggs in the field as she kept lunging for the egg, trying to grab it from the right, the left, jumping up and anything she could do to try and outsmart that annoying pink sprite! “Hey now. I saw it first! Well, the geian woman saw it first but it was going to be mine! You don’t need this egg! Sprites don’t eat eggs! Or do they?” The sprite stopped in place and quickly shook it’s head no. “I didn’t think so.” Devi told the sprite. Now was her chance! With her arms outstretched, she flared her fingers as wide as she could to make her own little net to try to catch the egg and the sprite together. THERE! She thought victoriously as she felt her fingers on eggshell and as she began to fall she twisted herself so that she wouldn’t fall on the egg! Devika, however, did not have the egg. The sprite deftly wiggled the sprite out of her hands as she fell and flew off. Then was the impact with the ground in which she felt and heard a sad little squish. Devika had fallen on an egg. She rolled over to look at the poor smashed orange and blue egg. With a sigh, Devi turned and left the field empty handed. Perhaps next time.
