Aku was born to Akira and Ozai Onigatana who were at one point the leaders of the Demon race. His mother died during childbirth, leaving his father to raise him while also attempting to be a king to his people. During his young life, Aku was primarily looked after by The King's Council due to his father's lack of time for him. The war broke out within the city when Aku was around 15 years old, forcing him to stand by his father's side and help to lead his people. He attended summit meetings with his father as the king's hand and he quickly gained recognition throughout all of the city. Nearly 10 years ago, the king was ambushed on the way to an alliance meeting with wolves, leading to the death of the king and ultimately Aku being crowned as king.

Aku has an acidic affinity created by combining his talents of water and fire manipulation together. He is able to do this by channeling one talent in each hand and dispersing the acid once they make contact. If he fails to make the ratio of fire to water even, the acid produced is less effective and can become more of a sludge rather than possessing acidic properties.
