Deanne and her sister had gone out to meet Lysander for a late dinner since they'd all been busy lately and hadn't taken much time to actually do anything. De had decided to stay in DC a bit longer than the holidays since she'd finished up her junior year classes half a year early so she technically didn't need to go back to school until after the summer holiday. Abby had needed some help around her apartment and it was nice getting to be around her sister again.

Seeing Lysander was nice too, better than just keeping up with him through social media anyway.

Dinner was good too. Even if both Abby and Lysander seemed more tired than the should. De had noticed some strange things going on with her sister and friend but she hadn't been able to figure out what it was yet. She had suspicions but ....

It was probably nothing but if something was going on she was going to get to the bottom of it

They should have made it to the restaurant a little earlier than they had, but at least she and Lysander hadn't shown up together. It was great having Deanne around again, but it was making some things more difficult-- coming up with an explanation for what had happened at the circus, for example. Explaining her late nights, was another one... And there were so many more.

This time it had been a youma on their usual patrol route; a bit beefier than the stock Arachne generally took out on his own. Her magic wasn't exactly useful against a youma, but she could run distractions while Arachne took it out. Going home for an ice pack had seemed like a much better idea than going out for dinner in the end, but appearances.

As long as she didn't favor her side too much at the table she'd be fine.

"So. Productive days all around? And a good dinner-- anyone up for dessert?"

"You sure you have room for dessert? You ate your entire plate and half my fries." De grinned, nudging her sisters foot under the table with hers. They'd been sweet potato fries too so she'd actually eat them. It wasn't that odd for Abby to steal some of her food, they'd both done it for years anyway.

Dessert did sound good to her thought. Maybe some coffee to go along with it which would probably be good for both of her companions. "Or more likely, you two sure you're up for dessert and not just a nap?"

---------------------------------------------------------

"Hey, I'm a busy man. I'm allowed to be tired."

Not that Lysander was tired for any reason he could actually explain to Dea. It wasn't really that he was tired either, at least not a normal state of tired. Running after the youma had been a bit more than he'd expected. The thing had been bigger than normal and he'd have preferred to have another heavy hitter to help with things.

"I did offer to order you another side of fries, for the record." Abigail reached across the table for their check, just barely able to keep herself from wincing as she over-stretched in doing so. Her lips pressed together as she leaned back, setting her card down on the small tray.

"There's a yogurt place a couple of blocks from here, and then there's that bakery you said you liked the last time you came to visit. They've added a few tables inside and hired a barista." Not that she really wanted to walk in either direction, but some prices were worth paying for good dessert and either one of those options would be good.

"You did and I'd have never finished a whole other plate of them." It would have ended up being split between the three of them. Better for all their waistlines to not even more so if they were getting dessert as well.

While Abby tried to hide her wince it didn't really get past Dea. She saw the slight clinching of her sisters jaw and filed that way to ask her about later. This always happened when she was out with Lysander. Without fail. She didn't think Lys would hurt either of them but something was going on.

"Hm, probably bakery. They've got coffee and yogurt places usually don't."

-------------------------------------------------------------

He huffed slightly when Abby grabbed the check, intending to pay for the meal himself, but he didn't feel up to fighting her about it this time.

"I second bakery. Means I can take something home as well." Emmett would appreciate having some baked goods at home and it would be a good surprise after leaving him out of that evening's escapades. They were still trying to keep him low profile while the last of the paperwork finished up.

Coffee sounded incredible, even if it was probably the last thing she should have around this time of night. She and Lysander had agreed no more patrolling that night and she was looking forward to calling it early, if she could... Assuming Dea wasn't going to try to lecture her, or ask her questions that she couldn't actually answer about the brief face she'd made. Dea knew her too well and it was getting harder and harder to hide anything.

As her card was returned she snagged it, scribbling her signature along the bottom of the receipt after tacking a tip on to the total. Rising to her feet she tucked her card back into her pocket. "You can cover dessert then, Lys. You owe me anyways."

She slid out of her seat, stretching with a groan and grinning at the other two. "Lets go then. We can get dessert and then split up for the night?" Abby did look tired and she doubted coffee was going to make that much of a difference. Plus she knew Lys would want to get back home if he'd been out all day.

It was kind of funny to see how stupidly smitten Lys was but she was happy for him. Even if she wouldn't have ever suspected it. Being actually happy with his life looked good on Lysander.

-------------------------------------------------------

"A vanilla caramel latte is calling my name and how do I owe you this time?" He raised a brow as he got up to follow the two sisters. "If I recall correctly I bought lunch last time we went out."

"Because I covered dinner? And..." Abby wanted to point out that she'd saved his a**-- or at least put her own a** on the line in order for him to get a good enough hit in to dust the creature that had given her a toss, but she couldn't. There were conversations that she and Lysander really couldn't have after dinner anymore; not when dinner included her sister.

"You just do, alright?" Her brow quirked as she cast a glance in his direction, slipping her arm through Deanne's once they were outside on the sidewalk. "You agree with me, right, Dea?"

"He probably owes you for something" she grinned, catching Lysander's sleeve to tug him up in line with them. "Since we're constantly doing things for him. Making sure he gets sunlight, reminding him he has a job? I mean without us who's going to make sure he actually stops mooning over his boytoy?"

Dea was teasing, mostly, knowing that Lysander was still mostly responsible even if he was a bit focused on his new boyfriend. "You do still need to drag him out to lunch with us. Shy or not."

-----------------------------------------------

Lysander shook his head laughing softly "I will, i keep saying I will and I will." Eventually. He still hadn't quite worked out how he was going to explain Emmett not knowing anything to Dea. Everyone else would understand but Dea was smart. She'd know something was off with someone who didn't have memories of anything.

"Maybe we should make Dea buy us dessert? Since we're always taking her places and showing her things?"

"It takes some time getting settled in to a new town and some people need to be more comfortable with their surroundings before you go shoving people in their faces. Not everyone is as friendly as you are, Dea." Abigail flashed a smirk in her sister's direction, giving the other young woman a gentle nudge.

"Besides, Lys has yet to break his word to me yet. If he says he's going to introduce us properly to his beau, I have no doubt that he will." How she was going to hide that she already knew things about him from Dea was another story entirely. That wasn't going to be any easier than this was at all.

"Yea well, it's more fun that way." Dea also wouldn't have thought Lysander would go for someone who wasn't as outgoing as he was. She didn't quite know how that was going to work with Lys always going to parties and events if he his partner wasn't going to want to do those things.

She nudged her sister back in return, catching her side with an elbow, looking over at Lysander. "I think he wants to keep him all to himself. Afraid we'll make friends and will go out with him without Lys."

----------------------------------------------------

"Yes, how awful that Emmett make friends and want to do more than sit at home." He laughed, shaking his head. He did want Emmett to make friends with everyone, the other man needed more friends, but he had to give him time to settle and want to do that on his own terms.

Forcing something on him wouldn't be good or right.

The sudden elbow to her side caught her entirely off guard. She hissed, side-stepping away from her sister with a jerking motion as she released Deanne's arm. She could feel tears stinging her eyes, a queasy feeling instantly overtaking her-- part at the pain and part because there was no way she could escape being questioned about her actions and she had no way to explain what had happened.

Dea knew she hadn't nudged her sister hard, definitely not hard enough to get the reaction she'd received. It was the same side that Abby had been favoring earlier at the restaurant and now her suppositions were confirmed.

"Okay. Enough is enough." She stopped, glaring at both her sister and Lysander. "Every time you two go out together Abby comes home with some bruise or scratch or pulled muscle. Tell me what's going on. Right. Now."

She was done playing nice. Something was going on and her sister was getting injured. She didn't want to think Lysander would hurt her but if that was the case it had to stop.

"Dea, I'm fine, really..." She wasn't, or at least she didn't feel fine, but she could continue pretending. Abigail straightened out and put on a smile, refusing to bring her hand up to wipe at her eyes. Taking a deep breath made everything feel tender but she did so anyways, willing some of the sting away as she exhaled.

"I told you I've been taking a kick-boxing class. One of the jerks I went up against was a little rougher than I expected. It's..." At the most inopportune time the phone in her pocket chirped. That phone was one that she tried not to ignore, but she did so for the time being. She couldn't deal with whatever message had popped up while Deanne was glaring at her like that.

Besides, Lysander was right there with her and that meant the message wasn't from him. She wasn't due for another training session with Corvus until the following week and, well, no one else really reached out to her specifically for anything-- certainly not anything of importance.
