It was night out and Bernard was waddling back to his home. It had been a busy day. He had slept, wandered around for a bit, slept, went back for some food, slept, took a nap in some of the trees that had some sunlight filtering though, slept.

It had been just such a busy day and Bernard was finally ready to go back and sleep at his own home! Currently he was passing by part of the DCU campus. Something he usually would have avoided, since there was usually a flurry of activity that made him tired just looking at it, but currently they either seemed to be on some spring break or there was just barely any activity at all, because it seemed that the entire campus was just dead, save for a few lights that were on.

That was fine with him though, cutting through the campus made for a nice short cut on the way to his home that was nearby.

It was then though, that his fur-stache started to tingle, and he got that familiar feeling. There was a senshi nearby, and they were not awakened! Why was the world so cruel to him! He had such a busy day and now the universe was telling him he had to do more?!

He sighed though, and headed in the direction he was supposed to go. He knew the feeling wouldn't go away, unless there was another mauvian nearby who wanted to take it on, and from what he could tell, there weren't any. Oh cruel world! To make him of all kitties have to do this! Why did he have to be a mauvian?!

hope that's okay for a start!

The campus being strangely dead was honestly just fine with Zachariah.

It might have had something to do with it being the weekend, honestly -- he suspected a lot of the usual suspects were either getting into bars illegally or off doing some other dumb thing. He did not know. He definitely did not care, considering their lack of presence meant that he could walk around campus without being bothered by someone who just wanted to chat or who thought they were being witty or who wanted to hand a petition to make a new club to him.

Those were definitely the worst.

... No, the worst were actually the ones who came to campus screeching with their "god hates" signs. Who did they think they were going to convince, exactly? Did they realize where they were?

Zachariah blew upwards as if to blow a hair out of his eyes, but considering he no longer had longer hair, that wasn't really a problem anymore. Sometimes it was just a force of habit.

When his eyes drifted back downwards, he noticed something markedly unusual coming towards him. A cat? He knew stray cats were fairly common in Destiny City -- they were fairly common in a lot of cities -- but he didn't tend to see them on DCU's campus very much. That might have been because his eyes were usually on his location or the inescapable mass of people, but either way.

Zachariah watched the cat, but did not move any closer, curious as to if it really was coming to him.

By the time Bernard had gotten to, and from what he could see it was a young man who was needing to be awakened, he was practically wheezing for air, even though he hadn't run at all and would have had to walk farther to his house anyway. At least he isn't running this time. He thought to himself, shuddering at the memory of the last awakening he had done and how he had to run for so long that he almost couldn't talk to the new Nix senshi! At least this young man seemed to have given him some mercy!

He waddled his way over, and when he was finally close enough to the young man, sat down, and held a paw up indicating that he needed a moment. Bernard took in a few breaths of fresh air, before he finally felt like he could speak again.

He straightened his bow tie again, trying to look as good as possible to this man who would need to be awakened into a senshi and finally looked the young man in the face. "Hello young man. I know this may seem crazy too you, a cat talking to you that is, but I am here for a very important reason." He always tried to be as polite as possible, hoping that the one he was awakening wouldn't go running away while screaming. "I assure you you are not 'on'" He used a paw to do an air quote, "anything and this is quite all real. I am Bernard, a mauvian or what you humans call, a guardian cat. And I am here because you are a very special young man who has the power to help," He paused a bit here, trying to find the right words. He didn't really like 'save the world', it felt like too much pressure to put on a person. "Well, help a lot of people. If you've noticed anything weird around here, monsters, buildings going up and then down suddenly, people vanishing into thin air, well, if you are willing, then I can awaken you and you will be able to help fight against all of this, as the reason behind it is quite dark and sinister." There, he said it, and with any luck, the man would accept Bernard's offer. Bernard did not want to deal with a tingly fur-stache the rest of the night!

The cat was definitely coming to him.

Well, he hoped it was not expecting any food. He had none. And he did not fall easily for puppy dog eyes. ... Or kitty cat eyes, in this case. This was definitely a cat. A ... well-fed cat, but a cat none-the-less.

It was holding its paw up and panting for air. He needed to stick this thing on a leash on a treadmill, he was fairly sure. Cat could probably use some exerc--

His brain slammed to a halt when the cat suddenly started to speak.

And speak a lot, at that. A lot of words. All at once. From a well-fed cat that had just been panting for air like an unfit human would after a run. He definitely knew he was not on drugs. The smell of marijuana from some rooms could be rather strong, but he did not receive a contact high. Considering that he had been sucked through a mirror once and saw some man in a ridiculous outfit and then had to run some strange mirror gauntlet with a bunch of other people in ridiculous outfits... The concept of things that were magical were, unfortunately, not new to him.

The concept of talking cats claiming that he could "help a lot of people?"

That was definitely new.

"Okay, talking animal, are we in a bad video game? That is what this sounds like. I have gotten sucked into a mirror before, so I guess getting sucked into a video game would not be too surprising."

Well, it seems that he's willing to accept it at least. Bernard thought to himself, a paw on his chin in thought. He didn't quite know what video games were, but he assumed they were some sort of 'game' and there had been that movie 'Jumanji' that his owners had once watched. Perhaps this was the sort of thing that the young man was talking about. He sighed. "Unfortunately not." Bernard replied. Or else I would be lounging around at the house all day eating all that I could. He thought a bit bitterly, remembering the meal that was waiting for him at home and the comfy, soft, fluffy bed that was begging to have something sleep in it.

However, he gave his best curly fur-stached smile. "But if you have been sucked into a mirror, that means you have, unfortunately, been brought into this mess already. Though it seems you came out quite unscathed, physically at least." Mentally, Bernard didn't know, but this wasn't a therapy session.

"Those are the Dark Mirror senshi, and although they haven't been quite as dangerous as, well, the Negaverse" He said, wanting to roll his eyes at the name. Coudln't they have at least come up with a better name that didn't sound like it came from some child's cartoon? "They are still quite dangerous. If you had been awakened then, I'm sure you could have fought them, or any creature you had come across. Here then."

And with that, he did his roll-over move, considering that there was no way he could do a flip. And suddenly, a pen appeared in the air, and then fell, this time hitting Bernard's back as he hadn't quite made it out of the roll yet. He got back up, looked at the young man, looked at the pen, and then looked at the young man again. He coughed, trying to hide his embarrassment and quickly picked up the pen with his mouth, and waddled over to the man, and deposited the pen at his feet.

He looked around to make sure that they were quite alone, and after confirming that they were, turned back to the fellow. "That is your senshi pen. If you pick it up and then say, 'Hydor Power, Make up!' then you should transform into your powered form, that of Senshi Hydor." Bernard took a few steps back, making sure that there was enough room between him and whatever transformation may take place. "I am Bernard by the way, will help you with any questions you may have." It was extremely rude of him not to have introduced himself sooner!

Unfortunately not sounded like something someone from a bad video game would say, so he kept his reservations for now as he leaned back, crossed his arms over his chest, and watched the cat.

He did have some ... oddly human-like motions, for a cat. He had not ever seen a cat simply stick a paw on its own chin, except maybe it they were trying to bite their own paws. That still fit in with the video game aesthetic, though. There were quite a few Japanese games in particular that involved talking animals. There were some Western games now, too, but it was a pattern he had first noticed in Japanese RPGs.

Dark Mirror Senshi. The Japanese word senshi fit the RPG impression, but he knew that had actually happened. And the cat just confirmed them like they were a real thing to this universe as well.

Which implied this universe was, indeed, real.

... Ugh.

Then what was with the name of -- "Negaverse? ... Seriously? Were they named by a five-year-old?"

Maybe a ten-year-old. Counting on a five-year-old to know the suffix 'nega' might have been stretching it.

Zachariah simply watched as Bernard started ... rolling around ... and produced a pen out of mid-air. It landed on his back, which likely was not the intention, but Zachariah was too busy paying attention to the fact that Bernard had literally just created something out of nothing to needle him for any failed tricks. That was not how anything worked. Mirror worlds were absurd, but he could at least excuse them as a parallel universe. But producing something out of nothing was--

His head was starting to hurt. What was wrong with this city?

"So I am a senshi, but apparently not a Dark Mirror," he said, quirking a brow, "named Hydor. Sounds fake, but okay."

This pen definitely should have been fake, but he was holding it. Firmly grasping it, even.

"Zachariah," replied Zachariah, flatly, to the comment of Bernard's name. He muttered the phrase to himself, not really expecting anything to happen but also expecting everything to happen at this point, and it seemed that his second expectation was the correct one. Very suddenly, everything seemed different. He was also dressed differently.

So clothes just appeared out of thin air too. Of course! Why not, at this point.

They at least knew each other's names now, so Bernard didn't have to keep calling the young man, 'young man'. He quietly watched as the transformation happened, and Bernard couldn't help but be a bit excited. After all, it was interesting to see what each outfit was.

After the transformation was over, Zachariah, now Hydor, was now standing there. "Mesocyclones, hmm?" Bernard said, looking at the other. The outfit realy didn't scream it, but if Hydor was going for 'professional meteorologist' then the outfit really was perfect for it. Though Bernard liked it for it's crisp, business-like look.

He gave Zachariah another fur-stache grin. "Well, you look quite good in your uniform. You are now Sailor Hydor, Senshi of Mesocyclones. But don't worry, you aren't stuck that way, if you wish to 'power-down' into your regular civilian form, all you have to do is think about it and it will be done." He didn't want the other to freak out about not being able to do that!

Bernard put a paw on his chin once again. "Mesocyclones let's see... your attack is 'Whirling Protection', and to be able to use it, all you have to do is say it. Though I would suggest possibly practicing it before you go out and try to use it on someone." He probably could have practiced here, but Bernard never quite knew what a spell would do, he could only tell them the name. They would have to discover the effect themselves.

"There are many senshi like you, and you will be able to contact them with this..." Bernard said, wiggling himself a bit, and not trying to do another failed somersault and out of thin air popped a cell-phone. Bernard caught this one, and gently deposited it at the other's feet. "With this you will be able to contact other senshi and even go to your home planet/moon/star/celestial object. Not sure what Hydor is, but it's definitely some sort of celestial object. I'd suggest you look it up."

Bernard decided to give the young man a moment to take all of the information in. It was a lot, and the other would probably need at least a couple of days before it all sunk in. But Bernard had more to give if the other wanted to be informed.

Mesocyclones? He knew what those were. What he did not know was why Bernard seemed so interested in commenting on them at this exact moment.

Ah. Apparently that was what he was the senshi... Of. His powers were mesocyclones? At least that sounded like a decent power set--what was he thinking he was talking to a talking magic cat and just turned into a magical thing with use of a pen from nowhere.

He took in a deep breath.

And then let it out.

One, two, three, four, five...

Whirling Protection was an odd name for an attack he expected to be stormy and fierce. He had a feeling he was going to be disappointed. He saved that for later. The comment about there being other senshi like him did not really interest him. He had no real interest in meeting these others. "Right. Do you have a notepad or--"

Phone. That would work. He scooped it off the ground and immediately went looking for the notepad application so he could write some of these things down. He went quiet for a few moments, doing so.

And then he looked back up.

Somehow, this was getting stranger. He had not thought it possible. Congrats, Bernard. "Wait. I can go to space. And not instantly die. How, exactly, does that work? Do senshi have instantly appearing spacesuits the way they have instantly appearing uniforms?"

Hydor gave himself a once over as he said this. At least he looked dapper-- no do not indulge the magic clothes--

The reality was starting to get into Zachariah's brain, Bernard could tell. But he didn't often get to talk with senshis after awakening them, and knew that some of them would go into all of this without having any real idea as to what they were doing. Bernard nodded his head. "Instant teleportation, sort of like... Star Trekers? Either way, you are just immediately there as soon as you press that homeworld app." Bernard wasn't sure what the tv show was called or the movies, he had only heard the name in passing. Really, perhaps he should watch more sci-fi shows since it seemed to be relevant to all of this. He couldn't help his addiction to mysteries though.

"The celestial objects out there used to be the homeworlds of many other living beings, but eventually they were all wiped out, except for Earth, and where the senshi came from. Your celestial object is Hydor. I don't know anything about it, but you should be able to visit it once every three weeks and be able to breath perfectly fine on it." Bernard was a bit sad, he hadn't ever gone into space before, and as a Mauvian, he had learned that his homeworld was no longer. He couldn't go back and visit it even if he could. "Unfortunately, most life was wiped out during that whole event so when you do go there probably won't be too much there. However, you can always go and restore it back a bit the more you go and the stronger you get."

Now Bernard was getting a bit depressed, he sighed, and shook his head a little, trying to make the feelings go away. "The Negaverse did it, they were the ones to destroy all of it, except for Earth. And you, Sir Hydor, are a reincarnation of the senshi from the planet of Hydor." Bernard gave a sly grin at this, wanting to see what the other's reaction was. Sometimes it was nothing, but sometimes one could see the realization suddenly hit them that this was something way, way bigger.

Like Star Trekers? "You mean Star Trek," interjected Hydor, unable to stop himself from correcting the cat who clearly did not know what he was talking about. Star Trekers. Right.

So they could essentially be "beamed up" to a single planet somewhere in space. In his case, it seemed to be a single planet named Hydor, hiding somewhere out in the vast galaxy or even universe they all currently called home. (Was it just the galaxy, or was it the whole universe? Did this Negaverse wipe out everything across the cosmos, or just things concentrated within the Milky Way? When did this happen? Why were some of them reawakening on Earth? Was he an alien?)

Breathe in, breathe out.

"So this 'Negaverse' you're referring to wiped out all life everywhere in the galaxy," he was going to go with galaxy, it seemed a little more feasible. Not that any of this seemed feasible, not even remotely, but then again there was a magical mirror world and also pens created out of thin air, "except for here, for some reason. And I am an alien, reborn. So you are telling me reincarnation is real?"

This did not sound like Star Trek. Honestly, it did not even sound like a bad video game, anymore. He was not entirely sure what it did sound like, other than a bunch of impossibilities and something that was giving him a headache.

He wrote it in his phone, nevertheless.

If this all was not real, and he had somehow managed to receive a contact high, what he wrote would not matter. If it was, he would appreciate having the information, at least.

"I hope you know that this sounds ridiculous, even from a talking cat. If they wiped out so much, how are they keeping themselves so quiet on this planet? It would seem to me that everyone would know about this. And anyway," he swatted at the air, "you mentioned these Dark Mirror Senshi earlier. What makes me different from them?"

Hydor had not noticed that he had likely already asked a good ten questions.

Bernard had a look on his face that said, 'I am slightly disappointed in you', not that he was, but that this young man seemed to be more... angry about all of it. But Bernard supposed that that would be one of the reactions if someone was suddenly put into the middle of all of this. Bernard quirked an eyebrow. At least Hydor was asking questions. "Yes, that is it basically. Reincarnation is real, as long as you have your starseed still." Bernard said, pointing to Hydor's chest. "It is within you, it's not anything you can see unless you are powered, but it is essentially your soul, and as long as you have it, you should be able to reincarnate later. Those of the Negaverse however crave those starseeds. They will take them from you, using them to spread more chaos throughout and may even eat them." Bernard shuddered at that. Even thinking of eating one made him gag a bit.

Bernard sighed when Hydor accused him of being ridiculous. He needed to continue on. "It's how you will be keeping your identity a secret. If anyone you knew were to walk by right now, they would be unable to recognize you. It's like a magical shield of sorts, though having to do with your identity. Sort of like that superhero... what's his name? Superman? People don't recognize him just without the glasses on?" Bernard was thinking that maybe he should get a bit more into pop culture.

"The Dark Mirror Senshi... they also use chaos for their purposes just like the Negaverse. They travel through mirrors and seem to have their own place. Unfortunately, not much is known about them, other than they use wraiths to collect energy instead of collecting energy themselves like Negaverse agents do. They really aren't a group that could be seen as 'good'. As a White Moon Senshi, which is what you are right now, your purpose is to stop chaos from spreading, protect those who are innocent, and try to stop those who are collecting energy, or the life force of people."

Seiana_ZI
PostPosted: Sat Mar 17, 2018 11:54 am

He did not really care about Bernard's slight consternation.

To say he was angry was likely accurate. Angry, but trying to remain clear-headed. Clear-headed enough to ask questions and note down the answers, anyway. Perhaps a better term for his emotions would have been frustrated, all things considered; he was not screeching yet, after all. He just wanted an explanation for ...

Quite literally the entire universe.

"So the Negaverse eats souls. Literally." Yeah, that definitely sounded evil. It also sounded like the kind of tall tale an older kid might tell a bunch of younger ones around a fire to scare them. He noted it anyway. "I suppose that would fit the definition of evil. Do they make a habit of this? Have you seen them do this?"

There was a small part of Zachariah that was almost a little disappointed that no one would recognize him in this form. He looked rather nice in this, even as he did not want to acknowledge that the magic clothes were actually okay. Perhaps it was for the best, though. If their enemy was supposedly one that ate souls, it was likely better that they could not recognize him when he was relatively defenseless. It seemed, from the sound of it, the ability to use abilities was likely constrained to the form he was currently in.

Otherwise, he likely would have been able to access them previously, right?

"It sounds like the Dark Mirror Senshi do not eat souls. Am I correct?" They sounded like much less of a problem, even if they were not 'good.' Of course, they also apparently sucked people into mirrors and sent them on parallel universe gauntlets, so perhaps they were not all that much better. Bernard mentioned that they still collected 'energy,' as the Negaverse apparently did, but at least they were not eating souls.

He paused at the name White Moon, lifting his head up from his phone's notepad again to take a closer look at Bernard. "Why are you calling me White Moon? You just said I am from an alien planet, right? I do assume it is not the moon."

Bernard looked a bit uncomfortable as Hydor asked if he had seen an agent eat a soul. He hadn't himself but from what he had heard about that recent circus event... "I have it on very good authority that they do. If you would like, you could send out a message to see if someone can tell you they saw it. Apparently it was something at that recent Circus facade and the General who had been in charge of it had eaten many starseeds of the guests."

Though he had only heard of this 2nd-hand. He hadn't been there himself, but there seemed to be plenty of senshi who had immediately wanted to update the database about it and informed the Guardian Cats about what had gone on.

"I don't believe it's a habit, or at least most of them may not. The monsters they create, youma, feed on starseeds. But I supposed it would be up to the individual agent as to whether or not they wanted to eat them." He didn't have all of the information about the Negaverse, that would have to be looked at in the database. One of these days he would have to look through it again.

"White Moon is the faction that you are in. From what I have been told, though really I can't remember it, the Queen, Queen Serenity was the leader of it all and she resided on Earth's Moon. I believe at least if I am remembering it correctly." He hated the fact that he could not remember anything in the past. He could swear that he had only been on Earth for some time, but it felt as though he had been living a very, very long time.

"So anyway, we, since I am included in that, are aligned with the White Moon. They, along with their knights, tried to battle chaos and destroy it. Unfortunately, not much could be saved in the battle." It was an extremely condensed version of what had happened, but if Hydor wanted to know more, he could always look through the database or ask another senshi. "You are not from 'the moon', you are only reincarnated from the senshi who originated and perhaps lived on Hydor."

Circus facade? He had heard mention of a circus in the news, but he had not realized it involved all of this nonsense. That was interesting. He wondered how much of the bad news he heard and read was actually linked back to the Negaverse.

It was a bit reminiscent of those evil organizations in comic books -- what seemed ordinary and unconnected from the outside world was actually being influenced by a secret organization.

"So the Negaverse feeds on souls sometimes, and they also make monsters that always feed on souls. Noted." Literally, he noted that down. Was there a connection there? He did not know how youma were created, but it was interesting to see that the Negaverse only occasionally fed on souls, but they commanded things that definitely always did so. He would need to figure out if one could turn into another.

He noted that as a question to ask but moved back to the White Moon subject for now.

"You are telling me that some queen from the moon," he gestured up to the sky, just to make sure he was thinking of the right moon, "ruled everything in this galaxy. That does not seem feasible. If there were as many inhabited planets as it sounds like there have been, I would imagine that kind of alliance would simply fall apart. Perhaps that was part of the problem." He was getting off-topic. Hydor lowered his arm. "I will drop this topic, though, if it does not seem that you remember it."

No point in drilling him unnecessarily.

"You say knights. Are these also reincarnated, like us?"

Bernard nodded. "Yes to all of that and thank you. And yes, some of them are at least. Some of them are descendants of previous knights who are then awakened and now serve. But there are only so many. There are more senshi than knights, and the only way a knew faction of knights is created is if a senshi proves themselves and become so powerful, though I'm not exactly sure what it takes, they become a Prince or a Princess, and then their knights can then be awakened. But none before.

"So far there are knights for each planet of this solar system, including Pluto, and some for Polaris, Ganymede, Cosmos, Castor, and finally Chronos. They do not have the same type of magic as senshi, they must channel their magic using their 'weapon'. Otherwise they usually have to rely on their training to get through fights, but they are also the allies to the White Moon and can help quite a bit in battles." Bernard wasn't sure if he was telling the young man everything, but he was trying to get the basics done at least.

He swished his tail back in forth, trying to think if there was anything else. "The Negaverse agents also use weapons, though they don't tend to have magic like knights do. Oh! I almost forgot!" He said, his face lighting up in surprise. How could he have forgotten?! "There are such senshi as Corrupted senshi who are allies with the Negaverse. Along with corrupted Guardian Cats. The Corrupted senshi have powers like regular senshi, and regular senshi can be corrupted. But Corrupted senshi can also be helped and become White Moon senshi again too."
