Talia looked at the object that she held in her hands, wondering what exactly it was supposed to do. She was told that it was called a "radio" and that one could listen to music with it, but no matter what she tried, there was always just static!

She had gotten the radio from her friend because Talia had been telling them about how she didn't have any way to listen to music. She was surprised then, when her friend and roommate got it out for her and gave it to her. Lailah, her roommate and friend, had said that she had an extra, but mostly listened to music from discs that her parents sent to her using her cd player, and it already had a radio on it. She had gotten the other radio from her parents too, but she didn't find that she had much use of it, and so she gladly gave it to Talia.

Talia had wanted to try it out right away, but Lailah didn't know how to use it herself! And so, Talia had gone into one of the common areas where some noise and music was acceptable, and she had been trying to figure out how to turn the darn thing on. She sighed, setting it on the table in front of her, feeling like she could cry because she just couldn't get it to work!

Talia had just lifted her head up to try and mess with the radio again, when she heard a voice near her. Looking in the direction it had come from, she was surprised to see another freshling there. Talia thought about whether or not to tell this freshling she hadn't seen before what was wrong, and decided that it might be worth the chance. "I can't figure out this radio thing. My friend gave it too me and said it's supposed to play music, but I just can't figure it out. I would go and ask her, but she never used it either..."

She felt so embarrassed. This probably seemed like the easiest thing in the world to do and yet she coudln't figure out this simple 'radio' no matter how hard she tried!
