While all of the proceeds from the ticket sales goes towards the charity advertised throughout the flyers and banners, there's another way to donate for such a good cause - and it comes with a perk of its own, just for you!

Whether you came with a date, a friend or on your own, there's a table near the entrance that's selling all sorts of corsages and boutonnieres on the behalf of the gala's fundraising. Thanks to several generous flower shops across Destiny City and the pocketbook of Chase Black himself, these flowers are now available for purchase.

At $15 each, it's a beautiful way to liven up the evening, right?

So buy one for your date, one for your friend, one for yourself - maybe one for your mother or grandmother back at home!

Whoever you're buying for, it's for a good cause... so why not, right??

You are limited to 5 rolls/entries for this contest per roleplayer, not character.

To qualify, you must roll one 100-sided dice and write 250 words about your character approaching the table and purchasing a flower for charity per entry.

You are not required to write all 5 entries using the same character. You may split it up among (up to) 5 separate characters, each with their own dice roll/250 words or you can write 1 character purchasing 5 flowers and write 1250 words with that character to qualify. (Examples will be posted down below).

Remember, every 500 words per character can be used towards a solo credit for that character!

If you mess up your roll, please write VOID ROLL in your post and make a new one! Please do not delete your posts!

At the end of the contest [Feb 14th, 9pm PST], we will come in and roll 1-100 sided dice. Anyone that has not filled in their post will be considered VOID entries, so please make sure your posts are filled out as soon as possible! The person with the closest number to the winning roll will receive a formal attire alt civ piece donated by the lovely demon_pachabel!

In the event that there is a tie, there will be a roll-off, though both/all individuals will part from the contest with a prize. Unfortunately, only one person will walk away with the alt civ. Thank you for your understanding!

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM either Nuxaz or Ghouliboo.

VOID ROLL

For example:

Akio comes in and purchases 1 corsage and 1 boutonniere, so I would write out 500 words to my post (250 for the corsage and 250 for the boutonniere) to qualify for 2 dice roll attempts.

VOID ROLL

I now come in with Danny to purchase the remaining 3 flowers for 3 tickets, or I have Danny, Bob and Rob come in and each purchase 1 corsage.

Danny buying 3 will cost me 750 words to qualify, but if I choose to use 3 different characters, it's still just 250 words per.

In total, I now have 5 chances towards the alt art, 2 rolls from my first post and 3 from my second.

One of the definite Must stops for the charity ball had been the donation table. After getting a look around, and a good long look at the gorgeous dresses on display, Orah had dragged Laney back towards the main door and the table people were crowding around.

It was a charity, after all. It was only right to support them. Bonus points that it meant lovely, sweet smelling flowers for the both of them. Even after years of being a florist, Orah had never grown tired of the lovely little plants, and on top of that, she had a date to buy for... someone to wear her flower and she wear theirs. The thought made her flutter inside.

Waiting in line gave her a chance to enjoy the feeling of her arm looped through the other woman's, their hips pressed together through their dresses. The closeness Laney allowed her was one of the things she loved most about her, and a constant source of both surprise and pleasure. Seeing her family less often now meant less chance for contact with another person and she missed it, more than she would have thought. Sure, she touched patients at work, shook hands with doctors on occasion... but it wasn't the same. Especially not now, when it would be so easy to take it that step further, and know she'd be welcomed...

Orah blushed at that thought and tucked it firmly away, drawing Laney forward to the table at last.

"Two please!" She said brightly, covering her embarrassment. "One of each."

The lady at the table took the money she handed over, trying not to think about how much it was. This was a special day, money didn't matter, right? She received two flowers in return, one pale pink and the other a richer one. That one went to Laney, who had requested a boutonniere, and Orah very carefully pinned it to one of the panels that made up the top of her dress. Her fingers moved gently and she couldn't resist letting her knuckles smooth over the skin beneath before she drew back, smiling. The paler flower she slipped onto her wrist, since that was easier than trying to pin something to the strapless top of her own dress.

"Happy Valentines." Orah murmured as she leaned in, pressing a kiss to the curve of Laney's jaw even as she smiled.

Word Count 754

It was the day of the big Valentine’s event, and Roxy was excited to go. She didn’t have a date, but the entruepanuerial spirit drove her to sew her own gown and head out to enjoy herself with a clutch full of business cards. She was only sixteen, going on seventeen, but her custom costume and tailoring business was already taking off. With that and her gymnastics classes and school, she was kept fairly busy, so it was with excitement that she saw the event, really wanting to enjoy herself.

Upon entering the event, she spotted the donation table and the beautiful roses sitting atop it. Excited, the young woman headed over with a swish of her mermaid style skirt, pulling her clutch up into a gloved hand and waiting her turn behind a couple who were buying one another the matching pieces.

The couple were so cute together, and Roxy held back a jealous sigh. She was almost seventeen and still didn’t have a boyfriend. Heck, she had never even been on a date! It was so sad, she felt as if her teenaged years were passing her by and she would never get the opportunity to experience true love. Weren’t these the years she was supposed to have crushes and go on dates? Now here she was at an event all dressed up and by herself.
It was true, she was there to promote her own work as well as to see the beautiful gowns that were on display. She hoped one day to be so good that her work was showcased like this. To have real live models where her designs and strut down the runway…ah, what a dream that would be!

When it was her turn, Roxanne smiled brightly, brushing a stray pink curl of hair away from her face, “Yes, hello, I’d like to purchase two corsages and a..um…what do you call the other one?”

“A boutonniere.” The lady at the table explained, already picking them all up. “Did you need help putting it on?”

“Oh yes, please. The other corsage and boutonniere can go into the bag. They’re for my parents.” She said, shelling out the forty five dollars that her mother had given her specifically for the donations. Once the transaction was complete, she went over to the side of the table and the lady helped her put the corsage on her wrist, smiling brightly at the beautiful pearls. She couldn’t help but hold her hand out and admire the beautiful flower and pearls, turning her hand this way and that.

“And look, the pink matches your beautiful dress.”

“Oh thank you, I made it myself. Actually…” She reached into her clutch and pulled out a business card, handing it to the woman, “I do custom costumes and gowns. If you know anyone who is interested, you can give them my card. I have an online shop.” She said, taking the bag from the woman and thanking her profusely as she hooked it onto her wrist and let it hang while she held her clutch. The bag was a pink and white fabric, and would be perfect as a tote for later.

The woman looked at the card and grinned, “How old are you?”

“Oh, I’m sixteen, almost seventeen.”

“That’s a little young to have your own business, isn’t it? But I must say, your dress is indeed beautiful. And you made it yourself? I’m impressed.” Roxy grinned brightly and took a step back, turning in a circle to fully show off the gown, the skirt swaying around her feet. “Wow. You know my cousin has a little girl who is going to have a quinceanera next year. Can you make dresses for that?”

“Oh yes, of course! Those are some of the most fun dresses because they are so over the top. Please, feel free to give them my information and have them email me. I’d love to talk to them and see what she’d like. My prices are also very reasonable for supplies and labor.” She said, eagerly selling herself. Roxy had practiced in front of the mirror until she was perfect.

“I will.” The woman said, smiling brightly as she pocketed the card. “Well, I hope you have a fun time. Don’t forget to grab your candy bag. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll see your designs up here on display, right?”

Roxy laughed, “That would be a wonderful day! Thanks again, and Happy Valentine’s day to you.”

“Happy Valentine’s to you too, sweetheart.”

The one thing she enjoyed most about the holidays was the fact that flowers were a great deal more popular and that meant she was able to see more of them and get to enjoy the more. She had always had a thing for flowers, she just didn't have a place to grow them. Not yet anyway, her goal was to get her parents to let her put in a sun room so she could have a sort of a green house in order to start a small collection, one that would take lots of care and time. Which was something she was okay with. While she wasn't a botanist or anything like that she could still learn the basics about growing your own plants at home. However there was a lot more to think about currently, like the big Valentines Event.

Accalia was single, so single she wasn't even sure guys knew she existed, mainly because she didn't get out a socialize much. She had run into a few people now and again while she was doing things but it wasn't anything that built solid relationships. Not only that but she spent most of her free time with Nadia so she definitely wasn't meeting anyone while hanging out with the teenager. She had no issues with that though, she didn't mind being single. She wasn't even twenty years old yet so she really didn't see the issues of not having a boyfriend or someone to call her own. There were people that might gasp and ask, "How are you still single?", but she'd just shrug her shoulders.

It was her life. She'd life it how she wanted.

The one thing she was extremely excited about right now was the corsages and boutonnieres, she wanted to buy a number of them. Not all for herself, though she would indeed wear them all, but she wanted to do something nice for those she cared about and even something nice for someone she didn't know perhaps.

If she was being honest with herself, the hardest part of the day had been trying to figure out what to wear and what do do with her hair and all that. She ended up going with a simple red dress with some lace ankle boots, a lace choker and wearing her hair up in a semi messy look with crystal flowers scattered here and there throughout it. Makeup wasn't something she wore often but she had put on some burgundy lipstick and some light eye shadow just to give her eyes a little bit of a pop. She was certain she'd likely look rather plain but she was quite alright with that. She didn't want to stand out and have a hundred million people staring at her, she just wanted to a nice simple look that was cute but still comfortable and overall practical. She was fairly certain she had succeeded in her goal and so here she was, standing just outside, taking her time before going in.

Taking a breath she gave a small nod of her head as if to reassure herself and she walked inside and had to take a moment to take everything in. The decorations were extremely elaborate and stunning AND SHE WASN'T EVEN PAST THE BOOTH YET. Whoever put all the work and effort into putting this together should be given a medal or an accommodation or something. It was truly a remarkable sight to see and she was glad she had decided to come out and join in the festivities. Amber gaze fell upon the booth where there were some people selling corsages and boutonnieres to any who were willing to fork over the money. She had expected to end up buying some things while she was here anyway so might as well start with the best part first, the flowers.

While she liked sweets, she wasn't a HUGE chocolate and candies she still like to enjoy them now and again. She just couldn't have too many at once, she'd get a stomach ache and that just wasn't fun for anyone, especially her. She was wanting to spend as much time here as she could tonight and if she ate too many sweets she'd have to leave and then she'd feel as though she'd wasted her time almost and that wasn't something she wanted, not after spending the time and effort to get over here. Looking in her small wrist clutch she pulled out some money and counted it after seeing a sign not too far away with the prices. She could afford to get a couple, even though she was here alone she could still bring some home and give some to people that didn't have the money to get one themselves. It would be her valentines gift to someone random, perhaps two randoms.

Beaming brightly she approached the booth and found a spot in line and began her patient wait to talk to the lovely people selling the flowers. Standing there wasn't boring by any means, she had much going on in her mind and she could see the flowers from here and couldn't help but admire how lovely they all were. She'd have to find out what flower company they had gotten them from so she could check them out during the daytime and perhaps order a few things. She was certain her mother would love a nice floral display. Slowly she began to move up in line and she rose up and down on her tip toes just because and tapped her fingers against her clutch as she continued to move forward. Most of the orders were onesies and the occasional twosies. Very rarely she heard someone order five and she finally came up with who she'd buy for. She was going to get one for herself, because they were too lovely to pass up, one for her mother as a nice little gift, one for Nadia since she was super bummed she couldn't come with her and then two extra to give to random people she met that didn't have one. If they wanted it anyway. She wouldn't give one to someone if they had an allergy.

Finally it was her turn at the booth and she flashed a toothy smile and approached the younger woman who was waiting to take the order and pass out what she wanted. "Hello, what Can I get for you today." She asked kindly and Accalia pulled 80 dollars out of her clutch and proceeded with her order. "Hello, I would like to get four corsages and one boutonniere if you please." The woman did a small calculation and looked back up at her, "That will be 75$ dollars even." She handed her the 80 and gave a small wave of her hand, "I don't need the five back, you can just keep it to donate it." She liked to give to charity and figured it was only five dollars more, she wasn't going to miss it. "Oh that's so thoughtful of you." She gathered up the things she had ordered and grabbed a small bag. "If you're going to be wearing one I can just give that one to you and put the rest in the bag?" She offered and Accalia nodded her head, "Oh that would be wonderful thank you." The woman handed one of the corsages to her and she put it around her wrist gleefully. The woman placed the rest of the boxes in a medium sized bag and handed it to her with a warm smile. "Here you go, your 3 corsages and one boutonniere. I hope you have a wonderful time tonight, Happy Valentines Day to you." She said to her and Accalia grabbed the bag and smiled. "Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day as well."

Picking it up from the table she moved off to the side and knew they'd at least keep through the night. She wasn't going to be here that long. At least she didn't foresee her being there for an extended amount of time, just long enough to enjoy the events for a little while. Taking a moment she made sure the boutonniere was on top as well since that was one of the things she was going to give to someone if she was fortunate enough to spot someone who hadn't gotten one or seemed like they needed a pick me up. Fairly certain there were plenty of singles, whether by choice or other, she figured she'd be able to find two people in a jiffy if she wanted to unload these on someone. She was definitely going to be keeping one for her mother and Nadia but the other two and the one she was wearing were definitely up for grabs. The one she had would be if she felt the need to give it away after. While she loved pretty things, making people smile she loved more.

With that she continued on to enjoy the event.

Evren was grinning ear from ear it was almost cat-like. The extravagant dresses the adorable food and the gorgeous decorations. Everything was so cute… and pink! While it usually did not take too much to get Evren excited she was definitely feeling like she was in her element tonight as someone who liked to make her own clothes it was inspiring. She had filled three pages of sketches, from the sights she saw to future outfit ideas tonight and she just felt so inspired she almost felt like she could just whip up something right at that moment. But of courses what were the chances of her finding something she could cobble something together with… well, at least something that would not get her in trouble anyway…

As Evren made her way around she eventually found herself at the flower booth full of the beautiful pinks and reds of the roses. In an instant, there was a sparkle that moved across her eyes and you could almost see the idea that struck her. She broke out into a big grin as she went over and looked at the beautiful corsages that had been made for the guests that night. They were such a pretty pink color… honestly, she just felt so inspired she definitely thought she could work with these. “Um excuse me? These are fifteen dollars a piece right?” Evren said asking the person that was working at the stand while checking her purse. With the nod of confirmation, she double checked her money. One, two yes it definitely looked like she had enough to purchase four of the roses with the faux pearl accents.

“I would like to purchase four of these, please,” Evren said in her usual excited yet calm voice. She handed the cash over to the person behind the table. Curious they asked her who she was buying these for and with a tilt of her head, firey locks uncurling behind her ear, she made a humming noise and made a little giggle.

“Well actually… I am treating myself tonight! Plus if buying these helps out people then I am more than happy to buy this many!” The attendant gave her an odd look but then just shrugged and gave her the corsages she bought deciding that it was really none of their business why she wanted to buy so many. Giving the attendant a hearty smile she thanked them for the items and picked them up off the table. She then went off and looked around the area. She was quite excited when she found not only an empty seat but an empty seat at a table. Scurrying over to it she placed her bag down on the table first and then carefully placed down the corsages she bought.

Evren then carefully put her hand underneath her skirt so that it would not get caught as she sat down or when she would get up later. Scooting the chair so she was properly sitting at the table she went to work examining the corsages making note of how it was simply put together and she could easily separate the pearls from the clip. Evren then opened her bag and rummaged around pulling out a small case. It was cutely decorated with a red bow and when she opened it, it revealed several spools of thread, small scissors, and several needles. It was her emergency sewing kit that she always had on her and while this was not an emergency she was grateful she had access to these things at a time like this.

With a couple of careful and precise snip here and there she was able to easily separate the flowers from the pins that they were sitting on. She then pulled out a needle and some thread and then carefully pushed the needle through the stem, she then wrapped around and repeated it once, twice three times until she felt it was secure enough to then go in underneath the thread to make a knot. She did this for all four flowers until she had tightly secured them all together. Then came the moment of truth she had to do this part quickly and carefully or it would be a complete mess. First, Evren reattached the corsages to the back of the pins. Following that she then carefully detached one the outside string of pearls and then reattached them to the middle piece so that it gave it a sort of uniformed look.

Quickly she took out quick drying jewelry glue from her case and dabbed it over the ends of each of the pearls so they made a seamless connection between the four. Smiling she waited a few seconds dabbing every now and again to see if the glue dried. This was always the hard part being patient to see if everything came out alright. When a minute went by and she dabbed it one last time she lifted it up and smiled. Everything looked like it came out the way she wanted now it was time for the real test. She went and unlatched the clips and slowly lifted it to her dress. With a few clicking sounds of each of the latches being closed, it was properly attached to the chest piece of her dress.

It made a very cute accent to her dress she thought… but of course, she knew it was not going to last until the next day. Usually, she would not be interested in this kind of temporary accessory but she was primarily happy about having the chance to create something. Maybe she would get some fake flowers and recreate it for a brand new Lolita outfit for her next assignment. She liked making clothes and accessories for herself… she like making them for her furry friends as well… She was graduating high school soon as crazy as that sounded to her… maybe she could consider chasing after this kind of thing for a real job?

((Not rolling because I'm ineligible for a prize <3))

Now that she had slunk away from things, Adaline found herself over near the table where copious beautiful flowers were arranged in neat formation to be purchased in the name of charity. Pink wasn't really her color, but she got that it went with the theme (and weirdly the color of the hosts hair which was like, way odd and probably suspect) so she decided that she would suck it up and deal.

While it was totally traditional to go for the corsage, she didn't want to wear something around her wrist like that when she had an awesome shirt pocket that definitely wanted to be utilized.

After just another moment of deliberation, Adaline plucked a boutonniere up from the collection and lifted it high in the air. Squinting, the bluette carefully ran her fingers over the petals as if she was judging the quality of the rose. Eventually she set it down and shuffled towards one of the corsages and lifted it for scrutiny.

"Wow, this isn't paint so like, this is the actual color???" She gasped, much to the poor table manager's annoyance before it was returned to the table too.

Adaline offered them a sheepish grin, shoulders hunching up to her cheeks. "They're just like, spot on colorwise and I've never seen them this color before." Okay, well, that wasn't totally true. It was like half true. She'd seen the paler pink for sure but not the darker one.

"These were specially ordered and cultivated for the event." The event worker said tiredly, a practiced customer service smile on their face that didn't quite meet the eyes.

"Wow. They really sprung for this whole shindig huh?" She looked around again. "Where'd the get them from? Do you know if the place does like, smaller orders or do they like only work for charity?" She asked, ignoring the fact that the worker's brows kept knitting and the smile was slipping further and further away. "I mean if you give me the name of the place I can totally google it. They probably have their own website. Oh! Maybe they have a wiki page." She clasped her hands together in delighty only to realize that she was quickly overstaying her welcome. "Heh, sorry about that. I never learned to stop after twenty questions," she tried to apologize, but she could tell that the worker didn't care and that she was making things worse, which was pretty typical for things that she just jumped into. Oh well, she better get her money and bounce. Fifteen dollars were slapped on the table in individual one dollar bills before she plucked up a boutonniere and arranged it in her pocket with a large grin.

"I dare say that's dashing!" She proclaimed proudly, hands finding her hips as she did a power pose. "Hey, man, thanks. Oh, by the way I just like use man as a filler term it's not really--- nevermind you don't care. So, like, thanks and whatever!" She flashed them a thumbs up and a cheery grin that was not returned.

"Sure, thanks for the donation. Have a good night." The worker bee droned and Adaline shuffled off.

((Not rolling, but wanted the flowers for my crew because I'm shameless))

Akio Yoshida (1 corsage, 322 words)

She was magnificent.

She was breathtaking.

She was his date for the night.

It wasn't a random meeting, an innocent bump into one another that led into a night of dancing and delight. No, he somehow had managed to win over the most beautiful girl at the last ball he'd attended and she'd stuck around his goofy butt for growing close to a year now. She put up with his flaws, his over-eagerness, the burden of him trying to beg for her attention left and right. She wasn't just beautiful - she was perfect, in every sense of the word.

And now she was here with him, tonight, as his date.

He'd debated on getting her flowers, to greet her at the door with a wave of color and floral scents as just another proof of how excited he was to be with her. It didn't make sense, though - not if they were going to spend the next few hours on a dance floor, eating dinner, being at the ball. The limo was an easy addition, but even fancy transportation didn't replace one of the most simple but beautiful of Valentine's traditions.

When he'd spotted the flower table, however, he almost smacked himself in the forehead for forgetting such an easy solution. A corsage! Why hadn't he thought about that? He could have gotten her one and... well, it didn't matter, he could get her one now!

Yanking out his wallet, there were only a couple of bills left - but definitely enough for one beautiful rose for his beautiful flower, along with the bills he'd set aside to tip their driver with. There wasn't any hesitation when he offered the fifteen dollars - one ten dollar bill and five ones - to the girl at the table. The corsage was cradled in his hand as the young man excitedly returned to their table, eager to show his dragon princess the treasure he'd found for her.

______________________________

Paul Jones (2 boutonnieres, 619 words)

When they'd entered the ballroom, it was easy to see that this sort of thing was not Paul's sort of thing. The decorations were lavish, the room was filled with people dressed straight out of a James Bond movie and he felt like an imposter, trying to fool the rest of the bourgeoisie that he now walked among.

This was classy s**t - Noah's sort of folk. The kind of person he was probably supposed to turn out to be, not some unfortunate ******** who struggled to get by, paycheck to paycheck for years until they'd gotten their heads above water. Paul didn't belong here any more than he belonged behind some sort of desk or proper job.

Still, he put up the pretenses - that was the point, right? He was doing this s**t for Noah, giving the kid a decent night out instead of forcing him to hole up in some crappy bar, watching some crappy game on a crappy television while drinking crappy beer. God only knew how many years he'd put up with that sort of behavior, he deserved a damn medal at this point.

Deserved more than he could give him, at least.

He sucked in a breath as he retrieved both of their jackets from the backs of their chairs. The pointless pieces of fabric cost more than he was willing to pay again, so it meant shipping them both off to coat check for someone else to keep an eye on while he and his partner lingered and mingled in the (forever uncomfortable for him) party. The clerk at the booth seemed overly friendly, her smile a little too genuine to actually be real. He struggled to half-a** a smile back as she gave him a ticket for the two jackets and he tucked them away in his side pocket.

On his way back, however, he spotted a table near the entrance of the ballroom that he must have missed on the way in. Upon reflection, he realized it was the table that had been flocked over - neither man had been bothered enough to investigate whatever it had been, with all the couples and teenage girls hovering around its contents. But now that it was freed up, he could see the array of flowers still on display for all the guests to see.

He paused in his steps, a thought crossing his mind. The false smile fell and he furrowed his brows, changing his course and now heading towards the table in question. The girls in the chairs with their little money boxes kept assuring the few people still lingering that all of it was for a good cause, that the money was being given to charity in the name of somebody or another's dead mother's name.

Paul didn't focus on the details - no, his focus was on the little flower buds, nestled on a bed of green and white. They looked lively, despite being turned into lapel decorations and for a brief moment, he envisioned the flowers that they'd planned on decorating the side yards with. That Noah had planned on decorating the side yards with.

Pulling out his wallet, he grunted "two please" softly before dropping two twenties on the table. The girl was quick to snatch it up and return back with a smoothed out ten dollar bill before offering him a corsage and boutonniere. His nose wrinkled and he shook his head, reaching down to pluck up a second boutonniere before taking the offered one and leaving the table.

It was a dumb, girly gesture. Noah probably wouldn't even give a s**t about receiving a flower that wasn't attached to the dirt but... but it was something at least, right?

Robert Banks (1 corsage, 1 2 boutonnieres, 753 words)

Lord even knew why he'd agreed to come to this soiree.

He knew, ultimately, it was to please his employer. His client. The man with the money and reputation that could make or break his tiny little firm - the tiny little firm that he'd neglected for almost two months, now.

Upsetting a man of power and finances was an unwise move and even in his feeble state, Robert Banks knew better than to skip out on a direct, personal invitation to the charity ball. He'd managed to fumble through most of the contracts with ease - monkey work, really - but actually attending the event was another beast entirely in need of conquering.

Yet here he was... more or less stuck, for the next hour or two until enough time had passed for him to make a satisfactory appearance at the affair and he could slip back into the shadows of anonymity.

God, what he wouldn't give to be on the couch with a glass of vodka right now.

Sitting alone at a table wasn't helping his nerves, so he moved up to pace around. Black had dismissed him of his presence and he'd managed to find brief solace in his departure but the temptation surrounding him of all the free and easy liquor did not make life easy for the poor lawyer in his attempt to abstain.

He knew the two should be there - unless they backed out at the last minute. Would they have backed out? Mory probably wouldn't have cared for something like this. Hell, K wouldn't have cared for something like this. What if they both decided it wasn't worth it and decided to stay in, instead?

Oh god, what was he going to do?

Hands practically rammed themselves in his pockets as he began to pace around the room. He needed to get away from the food area, needed to get away from the bar area, specifically, but dancing alone wasn't his thing, not that he really was much of a dancer at the end of the day. He did enough, was probably s**t at it now, god, what did it even matter???

Eyeing the various tables, he moved from dress to dress, trying to pretend to be interested in whatever fashion thing his client had decided to focus his charity event around. Some fancy named designer with fancy friends and fancy reputation. If he were in a better state, he might even try to pursue looking into her legal team, to see how he could worm his way onto it. Instead, he simply chose to nervously dart from one dress to the next, until there were none left to examine.

A particularly floral looking booth caught his eye, however, the lanky man making his way to investigate, out of curiosity and out of the need for distraction. Flowers were nice - he was more prone to simple ones like daisies or carnations as opposed to roses - but the charitable cause had him pulling out his wallet regardless. If anything, it made him look good, especially if Black were watching, but....

.... but he didn't need a flower. His lapel had already been fastened with one, out of habit from his former days of attending these sort of affairs with his parents. The baby's breath and carnation had been purchased from the floral department of his local grocery store, the pale color clashing with the pinks that came from the salesgirls in front of him.

No, he'd just get them for his two guests. That's right. Because they were coming, he told himself, they would come and surely neither of them were familiar with gala protocol - he would simply buy them for them as part of his thank you for their attendance. Right.

Right. This was okay. This was good.

He slid the money towards the cashier, telling her to keep the change (charitable cause, and all) before picking out a fluffy looking corsage and boutonniere. He'd almost made it away from the table when he double-backed and rethought his selection, dropping off the corsage and plucking up yet another boutonniere, creating a pair with the one he already had in his hand. From what K had said of his ward, it felt the better option. Maybe.

Who knew?

The only thing Robert Banks was sure of, though, was that if he didn't find his friends soon, he was surely going to end up nervously crushing the small flowers tucked away in his clammy palms.

Where in the world could they be?

Edited for length, approved by Ghouli first! I’ll roll an extra die on my next post.

He found himself awash with more feelings than he knew what to do with - gratitude, relief, excitement, anxiety… all too much to parse in such a short period of time. It was such that Julian decided simply to feel without peeling apart every layer in search of cause and meaning. Tonight was a night of firsts - first crush, first confession, first ball… first Valentine’s Day. Lead by the hand through the doors of the formal event, Julian’s eyes were widened by all there was to see and do. Clad in a lovely (but rather uncomfortable) suit, Julian had never looked more put-together.

If only his family could see him now! Maybe they could get pictures to show later...

The invitation to the ball, as well as the acceptance of Julian’s affection, were completely unexpected. Having never been to a formal occasion before, he was woefully underprepared for how things were supposed to go. He wasn’t sure if he knew how to properly dance (though he’d made vast improvements from the day he was born, no longer rolling his ankles at every opportunity) or what else was supposed to be done at a ball. Julian had seen formal affairs on television and in movies, but experiencing one firsthand was something completely different. The musicians were playing live music, people were dressed extremely well, chattering with each other under balloons and banners. It was enchanting… if a little overwhelming on the senses when he tried to take in everything at once.

Still, with twenty dollars in his pocket (that he saved from walking the neighbor’s dogs and working in Mrs. Jones’ house to clean her windows and the tall spaces she couldn’t easily reach), the donations table, complete with lovely flowers for purchase, would be the first step in trying to shower Roderick in gifts. Julian wasn’t yet able to work a standard job, so spending money was scarce, and purchases he made by himself were that much more special.

The fact that the booth was taking the money for charity was the clincher - he could give Roddy a present as well as give back to the community he’d robbed from for so long. Upon arrival to the ball, suit fitted and hair brushed, Julian pulled Roddy along by the hand, eager to see the table. Strewn about were flowers of varying pinks and reds, perfect for just this occasion. Handing over the twenty (and asking the attendant to keep the change - it was for charity, after all!), Julian scooped up the loveliest red boutonniere his eyes landed upon.

“I know it’s not much, Roddy…” he murmured, turning around to begin attempting to pin the gift on Roddy’s lapel. “But, I hope this is okay. It’s not plum like your hair, but… it’s still lovely, right? ...Thank you. Thank you for… for everything.” Blushing deeply, the boutonniere in place, Julian fought the urge to hide his face out of embarrassment.

For the invitation, for the suit rental, for living arrangements, for affection… for everything.

Pat had spotted the table selling corsages and boutonnieres near the entrance and knew he needed to get Fi one so after telling her he would be right back the tall redhead strolled over. It fit in quite well with the rest of the ballroom's decorations. Stylish and classy. Hues of Pinks in everything, including the flowers. Man the scent of the roses was nearly stifling, there were so many. The array of flowers was rather impressive and the cost was as well. Had it been a normal event the fifteen dollar price tag would likely have had Pat wince but it was for charity so while they sure as s**t weren't cheap the money was at least going towards something worthy. Besides he would gladly shell out three times as much for flowers if they would make Fiona smile so what was fifteen dollars? Chump change.

It didn't take more than a moment for him to grab a boutonniere for himself but it took longer for him to pick just the right corsage for Fi. He wanted it to be just right. Just the right shade of pink. Just the right shape of bloom and how much it had opened. At fifteen dollars a pop he was going to pick the perfect corsage. Besides, a quick glance over his shoulder revealed his girlfriend was currently talking to other people so she wasn't annoyed in his extended pickness. His delay actually led him to have a good idea, or at least what he thought was a good idea.

"Hey. Is it possible to pull one of these things apart?" He asked, pointing at one of the corsages.

"Huh?"

"Pull it apart. Like I want the rose from it, maybe the little white flowers, but I don't need the rest." It wasn't like he was asking for the secrets to the universe here. Where was the two girls who had just been here? They seemed so much more chipper and better equipped to deal with his odd request. His violet gaze took in the young man he was dealing with and silently wished for one of the girls to come back.

"Why? Why would you want to pull it apart?" The poor dude manning the flower table quickly left off the questions at Pat's 'just answer' look and nodded. "Sure man. Whatever floats your boat. As long as you pay for it I don't care if you eat it." Rich folks were crazy. He really wished the regular table lady would come back so he could go back to the kitchens. He wasn't cut out for all this romance crap. He didn't even have a girlfriend!

"All right. I'll take these two along with the boutonniere." Pat pointed out two particular corsages and when the guy reached for two random ones the tall redhead quickly corrected him. "Nope. These two. Seriously," He shot the guy the look again when the kid rolled his eyes, "There is a reason ok. Here. Just take the money." Muttering about pains in the asses the redhead took his flowers and moved off to the side.

It didn't take long for him to a fix his own floral addition to his suit, the bright pink bloom standing out against the black cloth, but finagling the corsage apart without depettling the bloom was much much harder. Finally though he was able to detach the pink blossom from its holder, he was even successful in getting the little white flowers free as well. He had presented Fiona with flowers when he had picked her up but there was something about the corsages that was so 'Prom' and nostalgic that he needed to get her one. So why bucher one in some mad experiment you ask? Because Pat had realized that as he looked over the flowers, each a slightly different shade of pink, that there was one that was the exact same shade as Fi's skirt and he knew, just like he knew that the earth was round or that the moon was not made of cheese, that it would look perfect tucked into her hair. Her hair that was curled and pinned and styled so it cascaded over one shoulder. Perfectly set up to snug a blushing pink bloom, and the two white accent flowers... what were they anyway?... into her vivid red hair.

It was the perfect excuse to sneak in a kiss as well. Besides, Pat knew she would love it. It was just the kind of romantic stuff he liked to do randomly and got him that smile he liked so much.

White Trickster Rabbit
Including one extra roll per Ghouli for the edited post I made earlier (which increased from 290 to 509 words!) Just making sure everything is kosher.

Now was his chance to prove he was something other than a nearly-twenty-something young man with an uncertain future. Now, Zach had plans - thanks to Jada’s favor owed to his sister (and, he guessed, his sister’s generosity, though he doubted that - one would be downright crazy to give up an island vacation just to put their little brother through college… but when he thought about it that way… ugh), college was within reach. A major decided - accounting - and a plan to achieve it gave the otherwise lost and drifting young man a new lease on his future.

Melody was a surprising - and extremely welcome - addition to that future. Though their time together was still young, the blonde meant a great deal to him. She was a calm influence, studious, classy, patient, kind. She was the type of lady Zach wanted to impress, and make himself better for. Working hard to overcome his self-defeating attitude (and even considering counselling, which was a huge improvement) was higher on his list of priorities than ever before.

However, on a night like tonight, his focus wouldn’t be on himself.

There were certain rules when it came to one’s first formal date with their significant other, including: being on one’s best behavior (which mean curtailing the cuss words and crass gestures), being well-groomed, considerate and, of course, giving them a lovely time to remember the night by. Bonus points for gifts, extra bonus points if the money towards the gift went to charity. Zach wasn’t made of money, but working for Jada definitely helped him put away a least something that wasn’t going straight to tuition and supplies.

While Zach wasn’t made of money, he’d put aside a good chunk of change with which to buy Melody drinks and food, and maybe a gift or two. He knew she was nervous to meet Fiona, the basically-mom-when-mom-left, but he did his best to reassure her. Zach explained Fiona’s nickname - Pern - and their adventure into space for the first time. Denebola was a Super Senshi, one of the first he’d ever met since taking up the reigns as a senshi after a long hiatus. It was Denebola that showed him patient and understanding, who guided him with a motherly tone despite his self-inflicted put downs and apprehension. Fiona was part of the warmth Zach didn’t realize he needed. Fiona was the motherly, stable presence, who never judged when he regretfully cried, unable to save her from the power plant youma.

Melody? She was a warmth of another kind.

Just looking at her made him smile in a goofy sort of way, embarrassing and dorky. The thought of being allowed near her, on her arm like this, meant the world to him. Much like how Fiona accepted him as he was, so did Melody.

Not wanting to leave her alone with people she didn’t know, Zach gently guided his date to the donations table, happily handing over the fifteen dollars it took to scoop up the softed pink corsage he could find. It suited her, that soft sakura pink, and gently did Zach tie it on her wrist. His grin was silly and he knew it. “Don’t worry, Mel. Fiona’ll like you. What’s not to like?”
