Gahiji was moving at a fast pace ever since he'd found the janarim tracks, his heart thudding in his chest, eyes all but glowing under the yaotl mask that he was wearing. He was excited to catch up with the janarim because they were always a great fight. Not only that but he didn't have to worry about wading into the water to get his fights either. He would be on equal footing with the janarim... well, to a degree. They had far more feet to stand on then Gahiji did but that just meant that he had to take some of those legs out from under the beasts was all.
"Once we catch up with the janarim I want you to stand back and stay out of the way, Gretl." He was fine with the guy tagging along but he didn't want him getting in the way when the battle was meant for him. He wanted to fight the beasts not ask someone else to do so for him. They would be worthless as both armor and food if that stuff wasn't obtained by his own hands.
Taking a knee he looked at some of the tracks, studying them closely, then nodded before he started forward again. The tracks hadn't been blown away by the warm desert wind so that meant that he was catching up to them. The closer that he got to him the faster that he moved, wanting to get his hands on those janarim. If there was one thing he could say it was that they made grand pieces of armor if their hides were prepared just right. They were fairly good eating too if they weren't too old as well. There was a lot that could be done with the janarim once they, well he, caught up with them.
There was a grumbling sound behind him before Gretl asked, "You really want me to do nothing?"
Gahiji looked over his shoulder at the blue eyed hybrid that was there behind him, starring him down, before he nodded, "Yes. You're supposed to just watch. I am the hunter here." He said in a very serious tone of voice before he turned back around, continuing to follow after the tracks. Once the two of them came over the next rise Gahiji caught sight of his prey. It was a pair of big janarim, one of which had an amazing, dark red almost black hide and instantly he wanted it. That was the one that he had to take out so that he could make a nice piece of armor out of him. Lips curling back into a toothy grin behind his mask he went charging forward. He knew which of the janarim he wanted, knew what he would do with it, now all he had to do was take it down. Once he did he would have his prize and Gretl would know that he was a good hunter, one that wasn't just crazy. Though to be fair it was part that... no reason to lie to himself or others.

The moment that Gahiji began his charge the janarim knew that he was there. It wasn't as though he was trying to sneak up on them something. If anything he was trying to get their attention right on him so that they would come after him. It was better to fight with the creatures then it was to have to chase them across the desert all day and night. Much to his delight the deep red one actually rounded on him, teeth barred, snarling at him before it came rushing his way. Lifting his weapon he gave a roar of his own before charging forward, the point of his spear up, and buried the blade into the chest of the creature.
The entire fang buried itself deep into the beast but it wasn't quite enough and allowed the thing to snap at him, teeth grazing his shoulder, its weight knocking Gahiji aside. The dark haired young man rolled over a few times and then pushed himself back up to his feet, taking in the beast before him... and the fact that his spear was stuck there in the beast still. He flexed his hands for a moment, gritted his teeth, charged forward. The fact that his shoulder was bleeding meant nothing to him, what mattered was the fact that the beast had his weapon and he wanted it back.
Rushing the creature he closed the distance between the two of them before he lunged grabbing hold of the haft of his spear... and threw all of his weight into it, burying it deep in. Once he did that he grabbed hold of his spear with both hands and yanked it out, leaving a gaping wound there that was bleeding heavily. He wanted to finish it off fast and without stabbing it too many times, not wanting to risk ruining the hide because he stuck his spear into it too many times. As such he started to circle the big janarim, spear up, looking for a good opening. Only once he found it did he strike out again, this time going for the throat of the beast, stabbing it there as well. It would bleed out fast from there. Pulling his weapon free again he set to hopping back a couple steps a couple of times, watching the dark one as it struggled to stay on its feet. He could tell that it wasn't something that would last long, neither would the beast.
As he watched, waiting for the creature to fall, he heard Gretl calling out to him to 'watch out' but before he could even react the sand suddenly erupted up around him. Instead of an attack spell it was a more protective wall spell this time... and the second janarim that Gahiji had lost track of crashed into the sand wall. After it was deflected in that manner and given the situation with the other beast it turned on its heel and ran off, disappearing over a dune fairly quickly. After it was gone the sand fell away, leaving Gahiji face to face with the dark red janarim again and a moment later that janarim collapsed, ending the battle completely. Now it was time for him to get to work field dressing the beast so he could drag it home.
