General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

For all that he enjoyed Gretchen's quirky company, after more than a month of relying on her for education and entertainment, Kenton decided to try someone new. Dai was available via their internal Deus phone things, just as the young man said he would be, and it took no time at all to arrange a training meetup and hop into a golem once he had arrived. It was Kent's first time in one—that he could recall, at least—and he definitely wouldn't say he was enjoying it. His hands were so... gummy, and the other parts of himself that he could see were doing no better. At the very least, this was less traumatic than being chewed on by some horrific sea creature. So far.

Kent stood at the edge of what looked like a gigantic piece of graph paper, unsure as to how to begin. Reportedly, this was difficult. He squinted at the square in front of him, looking for any noticeable obstacle and finding nothing. Okay, then.

Dai had grinned when he received the text, and had immediately agreed to meet Kenton down at the Death training hall. He'd never done this before, but it was probably about time he started doing training, especially related to his own division. He walked in, and saw Kent was already en-golemed, so he quickly followed suit, getting into his golem and figuring out the controls.

"Well this is weird as hell..." Dai found himself saying, flexing strange hands that felt like they were his but nothing like his all at once, and he thought maybe his field of vision was different.

Finally he looked around at where he stood, and considered the board. "So. You wanna go first, or shall I?" This part sounded... less fun.

Pleased to see that Dai's appearance was just as strange as he imagined his own to be, Kent smiled in greeting, nodding as well. He expected it made him look even more horrific, and he was surprised to find that didn't bother him, at least not in this moment. Probably Linus's influence.

"It's good to see you. And I suppose I'll try it first. I don't see what—"

He stepped forward as he spoke, his weight depressing the first of the squares. Almost immediately, a thin, metal something shot out of the darkness and skewered him through the chest, leaving a spray of purple blood in its wake. Briefly, he wondered if all of these golems had different colors inside. Like skittles.

"Okay," he said, his voice a little shaky after he'd swallowed and raised a hand to cover his new piercing. "All right. I do see what the problem is. Invisible traps. Or nearly so." Kent looked more closely then, noticing some sort of floor-colored putty that might have warned him this tile was actually a big button.

"Indeed, the pleasure is mine..." Dai slipped into more proper language easily enough, he'd been very encouraged to speak that way all of his childhood, so it was fairly natural for him. He was about to continue when he processed what was going on. "Holy... s**t. Well. This is going to be a learning experience on a whole new level..." He said, voice horrified. He looked around, trying to spot an apparently safe spot to move to.

He found himself rather unsure, so he finally chose a spot several squares away from Kenton, in the hopes that it would be safer.

Unfortunately, he missed the hidden button that was the same color as the tile, and ALMOST flush with the floor, but placed so that it was impossible not to hit. There was a WHOOSH sound, and a gout of flame shot up and around Dai. Dai gave a slight shriek, because who the hell wants to be engulfed in flame, and then stared at his golem's newly charcoaled coloration. "Yes. I must agree with you. This is going to be a challenge at best."

In spite of his golem's injury, Kenton hopped away as the space around Dai blazed to life, an unpleasant, buried memory flickering with the flames. In that burst of bright, golden light, this place felt familiar in a way it hadn't before, full of screams and searing pain. Kent didn't deliberately make a sound during the other trainee's immolation, but as the fire died, his ragged breaths whistled through the hole in his chest.

He looked down, chuckling airily when he found himself on a new section of the floor. "At least it seems that some of these squares are harmless."

"Hopefully I can find a harmless one next, myself..." Dai looked around, trying to inspect them with care. He finally found one that did not seem to have any hidden buttons, the floor was smooth and everything was flush to the ground. He nodded and stepped over onto it.

It was a trap, a horrible trap. The floor was a trap door, and as soon as he stepped on it, he went straight through, into the watery depths that he discovered were below. He was able to look up for a moment, and see the door slam shut.

He thought it would be a long, slow and painful end to his first attempt in here. Only the painful part of it was correct, because nasty piranha like fish suddenly descended on him, and his golem was shredded in moments by nasty sharp fish teeth.

Dai woke up back in the control room, gasping for breath, eyes horrified and still screaming.

Now he did make a sound, a startled yelp as Dai disappeared beneath the floor. Kent hadn't a clue what was going on down there, but he heard a splash and the other hunter certainly didn't come back right away, so he could only assume the worst. He didn't want to move, not when immolation and drowning were imminent, but he knew starvation would be as well if he didn't progress on his own. It wasn't like they were big on rescuing people here, especially ones who had voluntarily put themselves in danger.

After some time alone with his thoughts, Kent shuffled to the left, expecting pain and death.

Nothing happened.

He moved forward this time, now just one square away from the other side of the room. Still, nothing happened. Kenton knew it would be bad to assume that this course had somehow... shut off when Dai had been ejected from it, but he also couldn't believe that it was being this nice to him.

Kenton lowered his foot onto the next available square, half expecting this final step to be as uneventful as the last two. He didn't even have breath to scream as the spikes shot out of the floor on an exhale, putting his golem painfully out of commission almost immediately.

Though it had felt to him like forever since Dai had been eliminated, in truth it had only been a couple of minutes. He jolted awake again near the other trainee, and shakily said, "Do you want to have another try?" once he had gathered himself. Kent kind of wanted to curl up in a ball somewhere and contemplate his life choices, but he was going for brave here.

Dai had been silently watching from the observation platform, and had been excited to see Kenton had been doing well... Until that last move and he winced, shuddering, because ******** that looked as painful as the ******** FISH. He turned to where Kenton's real body was and watched him wake up, eyes concerned.

"This ******** sucks, pardon my language." He sighed and considered Kenton's suggestion, eyes thoughtful for a long moment, than gave a nod. "Horrible and sucky as it is, however, we should do this again. No giving up. If we can't do this, how are we supposed to survive in an actual battle, should it come to that?"

He sighed and got hooked back up for a golem. When he woke up, he glanced around and tried for another spot, hoping not to make the same mistakes.

He didn't. Instead, a noose trap yanked his golem HARD up into the air, and he had to work out how to get free... Which led to a hard fall that took a fair amount out of 'him'.
