It was that time of night where it had just gotten dark enough that most people would have been advised not to be out walking. Especially, depending on who you asked, a pretty little thing like Loreley Emmet. She'd declined a ride home from her friend's house after spending a good hour or so touching up the girl's hair - 'Extra vibrant is better for your date this weekend anyways' had been her advice on it in the short term. Plus it was just one more nice looking result that she'd be tossing into her portfolio once she was out of school.
A few more months.
A few more months that felt like a thousand years some day. Even if she was doing what she loved.
There was always something slightly uncomfortable about walking through streets where nobody else was walking, however. Even if it was a slightly residential area and the reason why she was out on her own was likely because it was cold. Loreley bundled her coat up around her further with a sigh.
"Just a twenty minute walk, right...I'm so smart," she grumbled to herself as she turned another corner towards the house she split with a few of her school friends. Loreley was almost home.

Medi had surfaced because she was hungry.
The serpentine woman had lost track of time, as was easy to do when your days were tracked in a place that held no true concept of time, since she had last fed and thus, it was time to return to the surface world.
Her snake half carried her forward, the snakes that made up her hair whispering in her ear as she went looking for her prey.
<We're hungry Medusssa>
A tongue flicked against her cheek and she lifted a darkly tanned hand up to bat the snake away.
"Wait," she urged, straying from a similar word that would expose how reptilian she'd become. Up ahead, she spotted a tasty morsel, which was a shame because the girl was lovely.
But Medi was hungry, so she attacked.

Something was in the air tonight. Pyewacket prowled the streets of the residential neighborhood he found himself in, whiskers twitching and Mauvian senses awake and active. The stars and planets had told him; there was definitely something afoot tonight, though the astrological chart he'd run up hadn't specified good or bad. Nevertheless, the blue-grey feline decided to take all precautions and assume the something was bad. It was better to be safe than sorry, especially these days.
He trotted between hedges and trees, the bell on his collar jingling softly as he moved. The deepening twilight was just enough to turn the streetlamps on, casting shadows which he held tight to, his fur keeping him nearly invisible in their dark pools. A sense of foreboding washed over him, and he cast green eyes about, searching for… what? He felt sure it would make itself known sooner or later, whatever was out there, whatever was going on tonight.
Approaching footsteps sent him scurrying into a bush. The last thing he wanted was some gormless human to pet him or try to take him home (which had happened before, and oh! What a pain that had been). Crouching down, keeping himself completely still, he watched a single pair of female human feet pass by his hiding place. A familiar sensation made his ears p***k up and his tail swished -- this human was an unawakened senshi! He moved to dart out after her, but another, darker feeling held him back. Shortly after the girl walked by, a dark shape slithered along the sidewalk in the same direction. A youma!
Pye bristled, but held back. What was he to do? Clearly the youma was hunting the girl. Suddenly the monster made its move, and instinctively the cat burst out of the bush and ran as fast as his legs could carry him toward the girl. He could only hope he'd be in time!

At least she didn't live in a completely dangerous neighborhood. Though all of the going-ons in Destiny City in the last 5 years or so had definitely made it clear nowhere was really safe. But the more magical events of the city usually weren't so ...normal sounding. At least not as far as Loreley had cared to understand them. So when someone called out, Loreley reacted fairly normally: she kept her keys in her hand in case she needed to defend herself and turned to at least assess the situation.
The situation was covered in snakes, scales, and made her immediately wonder if she should have looked away to keep from making eye contact. "What the hell?" she swore when more movement nearby sent her attention reeling towards the running form of Pyewacket. As far as Loreley cared right then, he was a perfectly normal cat and in any normal situation she would have shooed him away at best. She didn't need her nice suede coat covered in cat hair! While she currently still didn't want her nice coat covered in cat hair, there was also a snake-lady coming at her, and after a moment of consideration...
Loreley threw her keys at Medusa and, hoping it was enough distraction, began to run - nearly into Pyewacket. To keep from stumbling over him, she moved to scoop him up. "Bad place to be, little kitty!"
There would not be enough lint rollers to liberate her coat now.

There was a hiss that escaped the youma when there was a darting ball of fluff that was clearly trying to get between her and her dinner. Pale eyes narrowed and her teeth were bared, all of her snakes rising and spitting in retaliation.
It proved to be moot because the girl was scooping up the cat and keys were thrown her way.
They bounced off uselessly and only served to enrage Medi instead. "Ssstop!" She spit, long serpentine body chasing after the pair. When she thought they might look her way, she used one of her abilities.
Gorgon's Gaze: When she wills it, Medi's eyes can glaze over and, when this gaze meets directly with another's, it can temporarily paralyze her opponent/target in question for an upwards of 15 seconds, unless agreed otherwise.
Afterwards, her prey will slowly regain their motor abilities (albeit, they may be feeling a little stiff) and can escape.

Pyewacket found himself suddenly being scooped up into the potential senshi's arms. "Wha-" he began to protest being called a little kitty -- he was a majestic floofy beast! -- then he started to tell the girl to not look at the pursuing youma. Before he could get more than a squeak out of his mouth, though, the youma's eyes glazed over as he made the mistake of glancing at her.
Oops.
The cat's eyes widened as he felt his body stiffen in paralysis. He couldn't even move his mouth or eyes, transfixed by Medi's gaze. This was a predicament! He only hoped that the girl noticed or, more importantly, didn't look directly into the youma's eyes.

Loreley felt the cat stiffen in her arms, and for a moment she was bracing for the Pyewacket to simply retreat away entirely. When she wasn't gifted with a slew of claws and a fleeing cat, she finally looked down at them, then slowly back over her shoulder. What was he looking a-
Her shoulders tightened and it felt almost immediately as though she stopped - thankfully with her feet on the ground, rather than toppling onto her face mid-step.
It looked like she would be stopping.

There was a flicker of smirk, a pleased smile, on the youma's human face as both of her targets caught her gaze and froze up. There was still too much distance between them and between the length and heaviness of her body, Medi took far too long to close it.
Luckily, for her, the clock appeared to stay unticked and she found herself near enough. Her tail coiled behind her and she seemed to lean back before she was throwing her body forward at both cat and girl alike, fangs bared and looking for any sort of purchase.
Snake Bite: Along with her tangled mess of hair snakes, Medi can produce a venom from her fangs that, if injected in her bite, will cause a burning pain throughout the infected area. It's up to the player's discretion whether or not this pain is accompanied by nausea or other sickness brought on by the bite, but the duration of the venom's pain will last between 30-45 seconds.
Her hands were reaching to grab ahold of fur and fluff and the snakes that made up her hair were spitting and darting, also trying to bite.

It took a few seconds, but Pyewacket could feel his muscles unfreeze. He flicked his tail experimentally, and it moved, aching as though awakening from having fallen asleep -- which technically it had, in a manner of speaking. Holding himself still, he waited until the youma was close enough, then lashed the monster in the face with his sharp little claws.
"Not today, foul beast!" he shouted as he launched himself from the girl's arms. "Run, girl, run! Run when you can move again! I'll distract it!" The fluffy grey-blue cat leapt at the youma, yowling as loudly as he could, his paws flying in an attempt to draw its attention away from Loreley. "Come at me, monster! Think of the glory you'll receive for destroying a Mauvian!"
He wanted to avoid those teeth as much as he could. Who knew what manner of awfulness would happen if it bit him?

The cat lept into the fray and Loreley hesitated, actually considering fleeing to leave the feline she'd scooped up to fight with the snake-woman. It was a series of words she'd never have put together herself and it really made the entire circumstance feel all the more bizarre to her.
She was in the street with a snake-monster-with-a-pretty-face and a talking cat......had she passed out from low blood sugar on the way home? Was this a fever dream and she'd wake up in the arms of a beautiful woman? Loreley was sort of beginning to hope that was the case.
"She's like...easily twice your size," She wasn't wrong. "We should just run, little guy! If I can't fight her, I sure don't want you to risk it!" Loreley had failed to actually retreat from grabbing distance, however, in her attempts to scoop up Pyewacket again.

Medi hissed in irritation, her long tail lashing out angrily behind her as she looked from pretty girl to disgusting cat. Of course the furball was male, they always thought that intervening or injecting themselves into situations they didn't belong in was appropriate.
Disgusting.
She couldn't wait to eat him whole.
"You ssshould have lisssstened," Medi spat, sparing the girl one final glance before she was lunging at the cat, trying to catch him with her hands or by her tail, either way. She intended to eat him.
