Melvin hadn't seen Jordan in some time. After their movie night, they both had gotten busy with various things and Melvin more or less felt too strung to make a strong effort to set up a time to see Jordan. He had a new start to happiness and Melvin was off with Atlantis and dating.
He hadn't even expected Jordan to be in the tournament, but had watched him for the battle before and was glad to see him out and appearing for outgoing than he had before. Better than being reserved to just going through the motions.
On the field, he summoned Saliva and approached the other man. "Hey. Been a while. Ready to go?"

Both Nash and October were there to spectate at Melvin and Jordan's fight. Nash was standing, hands in the pockets of his ripped black jeans, and October was on the ground beside him, sprawled lazily on the grass, looking as though he was about to fall asleep at any moment.
(He probably was.)

Rep showed up to support Jordan again, this time finding somewhere to sit that had a view of the fight. He was quite happy whoever won honestly though, Melvin was doing better these days than he had been and it was a good thing. Overall, he felt like the atmosphere was going to be pretty decent.
Lawrence on the other hand, didn't want Jordan to win and had arrived simply out of hope that this was how things would go. The blonde man was not at all someone he liked, used to the slightly bitchy barbed comments he was capable of returning when Lawrence insulted him and not forgetting the fact that he'd befriended Melvin after their breakup.
He wasn't an owl today, which was remarkable in itself, dressed in casual clothes, all white as usual.
He'd ended up being tailed by Mikael who was carrying a few beach towels he'd been handed. These got spread on the grass and Lawrence sat down, Mikael close by.
"Oh a fight!" he said, clearly excited. "Who do you think will win dad?"
Lawrence gave him a roll of his eyes. "It wouldn't do to speculate." he said.

It had indeed been some time since Jordan had seen Melvin. They'd both gotten busy with other things, and Jordan had admittedly felt a little awkward about it. It hadn't been so long that he felt like the friendship had diminished, but it had been a while. "Yeah, we should catch up sometime," Jordan agreed. "Ready if you are." There were people arriving to observe the fight. They'd have to put on a decent show.

There were a lot of people showing up for the fight, and he tried not to focus on it. What surprised him the most was seeing Mik arrive, and he snapped his focus on Jordan, feeling tense.
"Yeah, we should. Catch up I guess." He said awkwardly before he readied his weapon.
"Alright. Time to give everyone something to watch." He moved a bit more back, giving himself the distance he liked all the while feeling a tight pit in his stomach. There were plenty of people here to watch them and show their support.
Rep was here, someone he just started talking to again - but strangely felt only because he was back with Jordan and was no longer considered the creepy predator that Rep secretly thought he was.
There was Lawr who wasn't even an owl today, and strangely he brought Mik. Mik, the son he was trying to protect and kept away from him at all costs.
Nash, the guy who supported him despite the rumors and how damaging his reputation could be to his own and having to put up with the people who thought poorly of his decisions, people like Lawr who didn't want him around Nash.
October, the soft, easy going man that made him envious of how relaxed and agreeable he was to everyone.
And Jordan, a guy who he spoke with when they had both felt low. Were they even in better places now? Were they still secretly frustrated and disappointed with their choices?
Taking a breath, he aimed Saliva and fired at him, and there was a release that came after, a mix of both spite and worry when it hit.
"You.....how have you' been?" He asked after, moving as he watched Jordan with his weapon.

Rep was here again, and that gave Jordan a warm feeling in his stomach, the silent support giving him a boost of confidence. October was here too, perhaps to support Melvin or maybe for both of them. Lawrence and Mik were undoubtedly here for Melvin. He'd prefer to win this, for himself and for the onlookers, but Jordan thought he wouldn't mind too much losing to Melvin if that was the way things came out. He liked and respected the other man enough. Melvin moved back and fired, and the shot made Jordan stagger with its force, surprising him a little. Had Saliva been that strong last time they'd sparred? He couldn't remember. He was going to have to close the distance to do any damage in this fight. "Doing pretty good," he answered, moving in, but circling sideways as he did, so that he wouldn't be quite such an easy target. HP: 45 Dmg: really?

"Oh. That's...good. Been getting out more at least?" He asked, not wanting to be obvious and ask if the relationship had been going well between him and Rep.
Jordan was moving, moving to the side as he tried to edge into range to do some damage, and Melvin moved to follow him, raising Saliva back up to aim.
"I haven't seen you around much still." He hadn't seen him at all. Then again, at least Melvin had the excuse of being under water for nearly a month and then building a house.
He narrowed his eyes, swallowed the lump in his throat, and fired.

"Yeah, not keeping to myself as much," Jordan replied, hearing an oblique question under the surface of the obvious one, answering it the same way. "Glad to see that Atlantis let you loose all right," he added, and felt a little guilty for not having checked sooner. Melvin's next shot smashed into him even more powerfully, knocking him skidding back a few feet. Damn! He abandoned the cautious approach to charge straightforwardly, swinging as he got into range. HP: 28 Dmg: 8

"Yeah, well they would have loved to keep me more. Only left for my sanity. I'm still working though." To which he gestured further off where a small glittering fish floated off in the field, a place where Melvin told Babel to stay while he fought so he wouldn't have a distracting fish overhead that might get hit on accident. He could only hope that Atlantis wouldn't see him fighting in the tournament as him slacking off on charging the rods.
"Couldn't see you then for those reasons." He added, leaving the part that Jordan hadn't said hello either. Busy. New lives. New priorities.
He jerked back when Jordan smacked into his shield and rose Saliva up quickly and fired, backpedaling to get the space from before as quickly as he could.

Jordan winced a little, aware that he hadn't reached out either. He'd been busy and happy, and he'd let the connection go slack again, allowing himself to think that Melvin would say something when he wanted to be in contact. "Gad you're staying sane," he said. "Don't let them work you overtime without time and a half." He kept up his speed, not letting Melvin keep too far away; if he wanted to make this at all an even fight, he'd have to continue to chase like this. It might come at the cost of absorbing a few more of those shots, and it might look a little silly, but it was the only practical way for him to get any hits in. HP: 22 Dmg: 11

He moved closer and this time he was slower to retain the space between them. The hit was hard, but not as hard as he knew Jordan could get, but he was slowly escalating his hits. Warming up perhaps.
"Well, work is a great escape. Underwater ghost towns too." He aimed again and fired.
"Been on many dates?" He asked, not able to really beat around the bush much anymore. He and Rep were dating and it was the last thing they had talked about since last talking to each other. They were close enough to talk without their audience hearing them.

They took the shot, unable to dodge and still keep in range. A quick exchange; their shield was getting dangerously thin. This would probably be Melvin's fight, they agreed. That didn't mean they wouldn't do what they could in the meantime.
"Work's always a good escape," Jordan said. The question made him smile a little, unable to stop himself, a quick, soft, warm expression. "Nothing too elaborate, but a few." He hesitated a moment, then asked in return, "Holding up okay?"
He lunged ahead and brought Ferros around again in a quick, low sweep.

Jordan smiled. A rare thing. A rare thing in such a long time and yet it was strange almost to see how easily he could switch it on now without it feeling fake or forced. Without it being a display like before, a grand production of keeping it together.
"That's good." He managed.
He aimed again.
"Getting by. Meeting people. Hooking up here and there. Looking around." Trying to find a remedy for the endless frustration and unsure feelings he had about what he wanted and what he could have. "Hooked up with Nash."

It had been a very different expression from the tense, tired smiles that Melvin had seen more often. Jordan seemed more relaxed in general. "Hey, that's good," he answered. He didn't really know Nash, but what he'd seen of the man was pretty positive.
He swung again, bringing Ferros around in a short arc. On the move like this, they hadn't been able to land any really good hits, and their shield was getting dangerously fragile. One or two more good shots would probably do it.
