Quintinite was still trying to figure out how this had happened.
He stood in the ring - not unlike a circus ring, his mind said - and eyed his opponent with a look of casual boredom and vague curiosity, an eyebrow lifting as he slowly circled around the other. Pretty, elegant, and possibly catty (weren't they all?) and possibly annoying, depending.
But still. They were here to fight, after all. Quintinite gave a little wave of his fingers, a resigned sigh.
"Shall we, then?" he asked, and swiped his wand at the other.

HP: 19/20 DMG: 0! MISS! Nambulite raised his hands to block the knock; he felt it, but it wasn't too bad, insofar as any injury was "not bad." He made something approaching a hissing sound, and took a step back. "Is that all you can do? You've got to come at me a lot harder than that to make a dent in my defenses?" Not that he had a defense stat to consider in this case, really. Still, he didn't approach or try to attack. This time, he was going to observe his opponent and see what he did before formulating an attack plan... if he had time to, anyway.

The other's attempt was, to say the least, unimpressive.
Then again, Quintinite was mostly unimpressed by a lot of things in his life, save for the circus, his best friend, and pretty things. Everything else, as far as he was concerned, could quite frankly disappear into the void and never return again (though admittedly it would be nice to have a significant other to take the load off at some point).
That was beside the point. The point was to fight.
He raised an eyebrow.
"Pot calling the kettle black, are we?" Quintinite replied, tone cool, upper class London accent sliding along the syllables. Then he added, just to be obnoxious, "I'm all aflutter," and promptly thwacked his wand into Paracelsian's thigh.

HP: 16/20 DMG: 2 "Yeah, okay, whatever," Nambulite grumbled, not quite sure how the pot was calling the kettle black at first. "Oh? Do I set you aflutter?" He grinned and batted his eyelashes. Not the best thing to do in a fight, but details, details, details. Unfortunately, the thwack to his thigh hurt pretty nasty, making him yelp in an ungainly fashion. Yeah, this guy meant business. Making a catlike hissing noise, Nambulite swiped with his probably-too-manicured nails. What good was it going to do? Hopefully it'd throw the guy off a bit...

The look Nambulite got was one of complete and utter disinterest.
"Not at all," said Quintinite, and leapt nimbly back, managing to avoid at least a direct swipe, though there was something aggravating about being scraped by someone with a good manicure. He straightened out his uniform, then lifted a hand and flipped a few stray curls out of his eyes.
"Rude."
There was a halfhearted swipe with his wand again.

HP: 15/20 DMG: 2 "So rude!" Nambulite gave a slight yelp when he got whacked with the wand again. It didn't hurt as much this time. Maybe he was getting used to it? No pain, no gain, right? But the bigger concern was, how did he give this guy time to totally adjust himself? "Here, let me fix that for you," he quipped, dishing out a somewhat wimpy slap. Anything to mess this guy up again. Maybe if his opponent adjusted himself enough, he could pull something out of his sleeve.

This was growing rapidly tiresome. And the slap was just plain boring.
Quintinite danced a few steps back out of Nambulite's reach, glancing over to where a General with strange eyes had just passed by before flicking it back to his opponent. This Lieutenant was, to say the least, kind of like a gnat that kept getting too close.
He came back forward, took hold of Nambulite's shoulders, leaned in, and promptly slammed his knee upwards.
Hard.

HP: 9/20 DMG: 0. Swing and a fail- miss. Oh god. Pain suffering hellfire pain misery. Why did Nambulite suck so badly at his job? Why was he even here? Why? So many whys. Wheezing, Nambulite stumbled around, thoroughly hating everything. Well, boo, if he lost, he didn't want to deal with this anyway! (Except that he did. That was why he signed up. Sure sucks to suck.) Yeah, he was pretty screwed. This other guy had something that vaguely resembled a valid weapon and knew what he was doing to boot. He pulled back, hissing like a feral cat. This was not his finest hour.

The kneeing had been very satisfactory. Quintinite stepped back with a satisfied expression on his face, brows raising, and watched as Nambulite staggered around, looking more than a little displeased with how things were going down.
"You're not even trying," Quintinite observed. "Oh, well."
