Pendour. That seemed like it was what she was supposed to be called when she was like this, she felt. Pendour had figured out that if she just thought hard enough about the magical ocarina, her clothes would change and she would feel stronger again, so she had done that. She had come out in the evening, because it seemed like in the media that was when the monsters and the terrorists and all the strange happenings seemed to, well, happen. She was hoping that maybe she could find some clue about what had happened to her, and maybe starting there she could figure out the rest of what was going on.

Her hunches hadn't been leading her astray so far. She'd turned to Google to try to figure things out as much as she could, and it turned out that they symbols on her outfit were symbols of Neptune like she'd thought, and that the thing she'd found was an ocarina. When she got a similar strange, hunch-like feeling that if she walked north, she'd run into something good, something that felt warm and bright, she followed it. This one was a little different, though. It got warmer and brighter the more she walked, and it seemed to be maximized when she approached a building.

She looked up. This was the library. She'd been here a few times and it hadn't struck her as particularly strange. She wasn't quite sure what that feeling had been leading her towards, but in any case, she was here.

"Um... hello?" she said, since her hope was that it was a person who would be here. Hopefully it wouldn't be another hungry monster.

Camelot felt the aura before well before he heard the voice, but he didn't register it as an enemy, so he remained in the alley beside the library. He had just locked up the exit from the basement that fed out into that alley, which was how Merlinite usually got in and out of his improvised home. At the moment, it was also his improvised hospital, as the half youma was very badly injured, and Camelot was doing his best to take care of him.

Hadaya, the Guardian Cat, stayed vigil with Merlinite. He slept on the head of the bed most of the time, or curled up on the pillow next to Merlinite's head when it looked like the injuries he'd suffered were hurting more than normal. Camelot left the half youma in Hadaya's care, though he did not intend to be gone long.

He looked at the girl who called out, lifting a hand and waving in the dimness of the alley.

"Hello there," he said, sounding tired but smiling and warm anyway. He always made time to meet new faces of the white moon, and talk to anyone that might have come looking for him. "I'm Camelot, of Earth. Are you alright?"

It was a person! That was good. Pendour had been hoping for a person. However, even though something strange and probably magical was going on, she had really not been expecting someone straight out of the middle ages, with so much red and gold drapery and real, gleaming copper armor. When he emerged fully from the shadows, she full on stared for a good five seconds.

"Oh, my, you're absolutely stunning," she breathed. Then, she caught a glimpse of his face, which was rather... fatherly. Oh no. Nothing against him, he was still stunning. She just hoped she didn't offend him. "Um. That was a bit forward, wasn't it?" she said. "Let's start over."

"Hello. My name is... Pendour, I think. It's nice to meet you, Camelot." Yes. That sounded better. "I'm fine, I just had a quick question? Are..." she trailed off and grimaced preemptively. "This is going to sound bad as well. I apologize. Um. Are you by chance," she pursed her lips, then spat it out, "A terrorist?"

Her next words came tumbling over each other like a confession. "I'm only asking because I think I may be a terrorist, too."

Camelot could not help the smile, self deprecating as it was, when she told him he was stunning. He also noticed the reaction when she saw the face behind the intense power and heavy armor. It was not something he was offended by anymore, really: he knew it was sometimes a weird surprise to see someone his age running around in a costume, even for other knights and senshi.

At least now his rank sort of helped give his age some credence. It had been a lot more awkward being a forty year old Page.

"Pendour! It's my honor to meet you," he nodded his head, noting that she was unfamiliar with her own name, so she had to be brand new to the scene. He shook his head leisurely, waving his hands in an effort to clear the air. "No, no, not a terrorist. The media might think so, but we're certainly more than vigilantes or terrorists. What we are, my friend, are Knights. Protectors. Let me guess. An item of some kind appeared before you, or you found it, and when you claimed it you turned into this, right? The same thing happened to me, years ago."

"A Knight." Pendour said the word through half-closed lips as if she was holding it by two fingers at arm's length. It sounded right, which she wasn't sure how to feel about. "It fits you, certainly." With the storybook clothing, the shining armor, and even the name, Camelot, he was the perfect match.

She called her ocarina to hand. She had puzzled how to do that much, at least. With the other, she pulled her large braid over her shoulder and ran her thumb over the pearls that tied it off. "It's a better word than terrorist, of course, but, well, I am the opposite of a warrior." She looked down at her skirts and laughed softly, thinking of her days spent talking to plants and making videos meant to soothe. "And not just because of the trappings," she said.

"Anyway, I did find an item, this ocarina, which transformed me, so it seems we have a little in common." The symbols on his outfit caught her eye and clicked with something she'd found in her earlier Googling. "Earth. You said you were of Earth, yes? It seems I am connected to Neptune. Would that match up with what you know?"

Camelot watched her, knowing how overwhelming it could all be. Especially just starting out, which was the hardest time of all. Everything happened all at once, and it was always like being thrown into the deep end of a pool without knowing how to swim and, on top of that, with really heavy armor on.

At least, that was what it was like for Camelot.

"You don't have to be a warrior, per se," Camelot said, with a sage nod, "every knight has their own unique take on this war. Some of us fight for what we believe in, some work to find a way to reach for peace. Some use their minds, or their hearts, and of course there are certainly those that excel using their fists to solve problems."

He smiled, glad she had an idea about her planet. He was not too familiar with the markings, though he had seen them on other knights, of course. He just had a hard time remembering them all by sight alone. He had to remember names and faces and all the rest, after all.

"Yes, every Knight is tied to a planet, where their powers and outfit are derived. It's still a bit of a mystery to me. Things I'm still striving to learn, though there are definitely people out there that know more. I'm pretty good with Earth, though," he laughed. It was kind of cheating, since they were all here on Earth anyway.

Pendour nodded along and tried to keep up, although it seemed like Camelot was jumping from topic to topic and encouragement to encouragement, which was so sweet of him, but not quite the easiest to follow. She waited until a natural pause in the conversation while he was on the subject of planets.

"So I was right about Neptune," she said, running her thumb across her knuckles. "That's good. It's so beautiful, so blue. If it had ended up meaning something else, I'd have been a little sad." She took another appreciative look at Camelot's outfit. "Not disappointed, though. Earth is the planet that serves humanity well enough, for example, and I'm sure the others have their charms as well."

"This is not really about clothing, though, is it?" She opened her hands and took another look at the little ocarina. "You said I could help work for peace, but that means that something's wrong, doesn't it?" She looked back at him and raised her eyebrows a bit, just enough to show she wasn't fooled. "I think we need to take this conversation and walk back a few steps. What's happening, exactly?"

Camelot grinned sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck and taking a breath. He could tell he was talking a lot, because he was a little puffed out. Sometimes he got excited about his lectures, which was probably not great outside a school setting. He wasn't even a teacher: he was a librarian, and those tended to have to be quiet.

He was just a goof ball, at the end of the day. Maybe he had grown quite a bit in his years since awakening, but the awkward, easily flustered man he used to be was still in there.

Just waiting for an opportunity to make things weird.

"Neptune is a beautiful planet, and the colors suit you," he said with a reassuring smile. Some outfits he saw knights awaken to were a little too revealing or strange for his simple tastes, after all. Not that he could pull the disapproving dad card on every one he met, when they had no control over the outfits they were given.

"Yes, something's wrong," he looked thoughtful, reminding himself to be simple and short winded, "there is a dark force called Chaos that we fight against. Chaos is controlled by members of the Negaverse, who are soldiers that fight to take this planet. They do this by draining energy from victims, sometimes hurting them or even killing them. They steal starseeds, too, which are essentially crystals of life inside us and what allow us to have our powers. Ah... We defend the people and ourselves from the Negaverse. It is a war."

Another compliment. It was nice, although she couldn't help but notice that Camelot was getting a little flustered. Pendour grinned and gave a light, airy laugh. Knight in shining armor or not, and she had a feeling that it wasn't just for show, he was still a real person underneath. His words were helpful, no mistake, but his honest reactions were reassuring in a different way.

"You're doing fine," she said, which would hopefully be reassuring and not just further the awkwardness. "And thank you."

Then he was taking about more serious things, and she listened. What he was saying more or less matched up with rumors she'd heard and her very limited experience as a knight, although she didn't know about this dark force, Chaos.

"I think that makes sense," she said. She supposed if there was good then there would probably be evil, although she didn't like thinking about it in such black and white terms. "Although... the Negaverse?" her smile returned. "Don't you think that sounds a little silly?"

She turned to her ocarina and ran a finger across its smooth, smooth surface. "Well, if people are dying, which I know they are, then people are dying. The name wouldn't really matter then, would it?" She looked back up. "I think I would like to protect people, if I can."

"I do think it sounds silly. But the White Moon doesn't sound too much better, does it? Plus all the running around in weird get ups. Explaining it to anyone who has not experienced part of it directly would be like... well, I imagine it would be very difficult."

He frowned lamely, but shook it off with a good natured chuckle.

"I'm glad to hear you say that. I know this is all a lot to take in at the start, but as a knight, our job is to protect those who cannot defend themselves. Even so, we do have a chance to help the Negaverse, as well. A lot of their members are forcibly corrupted: they have chaos pushed into their starseeds and it makes them negaverse soldiers. They're not brainwashed, but they're not wholly free, either. We can help them, if they want to be helped, and I have the power to purify them. Negaverse soldiers become knights, like us, when the chaos is taken away. That's why it's good to remember that force is not always the only answer, even in a war."

He felt like he was lecturing again, and sighed at himself.

"The White Moon?" she asked. She looked up at the thin sliver of a moon in the sky. It was pretty, but it seemed so small compared to both the planet she lived on and the one she was sworn to. "Is that our official name? What about Earth and Neptune?" She paused and pursed her lips. "Well, maybe talking about planet knights is a little weird, but just 'knights' isn't so bad. It's a little intimidating, maybe, and anachronistic, but it's simple, classy, and easy to understand." The conversation was heading towards something she could talk about even without knowing much about this war, and she looked back to Camelot.

She gave a small frown. "It does sound violent, though. I don't want people to think I'm going to hurt them."

That thought was short lived enough. "If the Negaverse is able to recruit whoever they want, I can see why they didn't feel the need for a better name," she said. "It's sad, but I'm glad we can help them. Well, I'll see what I can do, at least. I hope I can help, but it does seem like a lot." She was so new at this, and things tended to take time to learn, only this time there was more at stake, it seemed.

At least she had somehow stumbled across an advisor. "How did you start?" she asked.

Camelot bit his lower lip thoughtfully. This part was always complicated, and even he lacked some of the information needed to fully explain the ties between all the planets and the bigger umbrella of the White Moon.

"White Moon and the word 'Order' are often used just to describe anyone working under the forces of good, against Chaos. That includes knights, like us, and Sailor Senshi. Knights also represent planets, which guide our powers and, really, what our outfits look like. So as a Neptune knight, you'll have different kinds of abilities than I do, as an Earth knight. It all ties into a very long and very complicated history that I... should really learn more about."

He grinned sheepishly.

"Oh? Well. I started several years ago now. Seems like an eternity. Thankfully, I was aware of the white moon through a series of unfortunate events before I awakened, and knew a bit about the whole war going in. It wasn't as jarring, I imagine. Though I did awaken by falling off a roof." He looked thoughtful, remembering. "It's different for everyone. As is the learning path, and how we train ourselves or find our strengths. Sometimes it takes longer than other times, but it's very unique to each knight. I'm here to do my best to help others."

Pendour really did try her best to follow along, although there was just a lot to process.

"Well, it's good you awakened, then," she said with another smile. "I was chased by a monster, but you're probably right that it's not as important as what happens next."

Learning the basics, for example. That was important. "Anyway," she said. "So we're connected to different planets, and we're under the banner of the moon, and of course all this is happening on Earth." The repetition helped settle it in her mind a bit.

She nodded, then pursed her lips. For every question answered, it seemed like she had another. "Um, Sailor Sen...shi?" she asked, stumbling over the unfamiliar word. It was especially odd as most of the magical happenings they'd been talking about were tied to images she understood, like planets and objects. Well, the ocarina had been a bit of a mystery as well, but it had been easily solved, and this would hopefully be the same. "I'm sorry, I don't know about those either." She looked up hopefully.

Camelot nodded his head, looking amused.

"Easy to follow, right?" he said, as she recapped the strangeness that was this war for Earth and for everyone that lived there. Whether their powers originated there or not, this was the planet they had: they either had to share it, or the Negaverse had to be stopped. He knew they would not give up, so long as they had the idea that the Earth was theirs and their hatred toward the White Moon.

It was all very complicated, and even he got a little mixed up now and then.

"Senshi are... like us. They're what this city deemed 'terrorists' before Knights started awakening, really. Their powers come from outer space, and the Negaverse consider them... well. Basically invaders. But to Knights, White Moon Senshi are allies. You'll meet them soon enough, I'm sure. My son is actually a Senshi, strangely enough."

Pendour thought she was following along better now.

"I don't think I would call it simple, but yes, I think I understand. If not right now, I'm sure I'll manage to get it straight eventually," she said, with a bit of a distant look in her eyes. Her fingers absentmindedly went back to fiddling with the strands of her braid. "I think the day to day, the conflict and the hope, that's something I can walk away with right now, so thank you," she said, and nodded.

She still wasn't quite sure about these senshi, but since they would most likely not be the ones who were a threat to her, or peace, she decided that they were not a cause of concern for her at the moment. Camelot mentioning his son did get her to think, though. She didn't have any children, but she did have five siblings, her parents, and a lengthy extended family.

"How unusual is it to be involved in all this?" she asked. "I have a big family. Do you think-" she cut herself off, and squinted. "Would I even know?"
