As horribly dramatic and traumatizing as things had been lately, there was a time for everything and right now, in this very moment, was the time that December decided he was done. Done moping, done allowing himself to feel scared and worried about what he had done, what he had seen. Instead, he decided to focus on the things that hadn't changed. He was still December, a white haired, purple eyed bouncy young man who wasn't afraid to be who he was. And he still loved the world around him, in a way. Everything was still as it was, even if his life had been turned upside down and around and inside out one way or another.
So what better way to prove that he was still December than doing the things that December loved to do, the biggest of which was clay figurines!
Sure most of what he owned, his materials and old sculpts and supplies were all burnt to a crisp when his General burnt down his home, but that didn't mean he couldn't get more! With the meager allowance he was given he set out to get the things he so desperately craved to work with. If he got them, surely he'd feel like himself again.
And he wouldn't lie, he rather enjoyed wandering around the craft stores. There was something about wandering around, getting lost among rows and rows of different supplies and fabrics that made his very fingertips tingle with excitement! Already he could see new ideas of what to sculpt next! In his excitement, he didn't realize where he was going exactly and ended up in a row of glittery toys and projects. How he loved how they sparkled and shimmered! And so too it seemed another person did!
"Hello!" Cheerfully he called out to the girl who seemed to be looking through all the different bottles of glitter that was there. And she was so ruffly! Her skirt, her shirt, her hair ties all were ruffled and cute! "Your outfit is so cute! Did you make it yourself? It coordinates so well!"

Kelly was trying. She was trying really hard to not…be a total negative Nancy all the time. It was hard though. Hard to move on with life as it had been. Nothing was the same. Nothing would be the same again.
She had managed to leave the house today though, managed to get the energy to get out of bed and go somewhere…and that somewhere had been her favorite craft store. She had been thinking more and more of getting some new hobby. And thinking more and more of learning to sew, and making her own Lolita clothing since she couldn’t afford anything right now…she also had the strongest desire to apply for a job, but she wasn’t quite sure that she would do that today.
Maybe next time.
Kelly had meant to go straight to the fabric section…and then to the class schedule and see if there was a class that she could sign up for…but there had been a large display full of glitter, and of course she had been sidetracked by the shining, sparkling stuff.
So involved was she in a particular bottle, some almost clear glitter that shined just like a rainbow, that Kelly had no idea someone else was in her vicinity, at least until he spoke.
The voice nearly made her jump out of her skin and the bottle flew into the air as she let go of it, and landed on the ground, with a quiet thunk. Thank goodness it was made of plastic and not glass!
“Jeeze, you scared me. Um…Thank you! No, I didn’t make it…I actually don’t know how to sew yet…uh…” She swallowed, unsure if she should keep rambling or just end it there. It had been a while since she had carried on a conversation with someone who wasn’t her sibling…or a member of her court but.
Well.
“I…that’s why I came here, to see if I could get sewing lessons, I know they have classes sometimes but…the glitter…” Quietly she scooped up the bottle and held it out to the white haired boy, as though in showing him how pretty it was…her absent mindedness would be able to be overlooked.

For a brief moment, December felt bad that he had startled the girl, but it quickly melted back into an excited smile as she spoke to him.
"Awww, I didn't mean to scare you! I don't think I'm that scary right?" To emphasis this, he grinned wide, smile easily showing off all his teeth. Maybe it was coming off a bit strong but December never was one who knew how to tone anything down. Live life loud and filled with laughter! That's what he thought.
"Your dress really is cute though! Oh man, I never even thought about learning how to sew! I just do clay stuff but that would be pretty neat... I always wanted to do those things, go to cons, dressing up, making epic and awesome things, but woops, there goes me, easily distracted and a part all in peaces!" Just as his words were quick and excitable, as where his hands which took the bottle of glitter from the girl and gave it a little shake. It made the most pleasant of sounds, a soft 'schwwwwish', in a way and even in the weirdly tannish light in the store it sparkled!
"Ooh, lessons? That would be pretty cool! Are you signing up alone or just by yourself? I think they have baking classes too!" After all that crap that went down, December found himself with alot of free time... ALOT of it. Maybe he should look into signing up for one or two or all of them himself.

Kelly was quiet for a moment and finally she shrugged, giving a small smile of her own. “You’d be scary if you had shark teeth, but as you are, you’re not scary. I just wasn’t…all here.” She glanced down at her dress, her smile growing slightly at his words. It was nice to hear something positive…from someone who didn’t feel obligated to say nice things.
At his questions about the classes though, the smile faded just slightly. “Well…isn’t alone and by myself the same thing? I mean, I don’t have anyone to sign up with…” She paused and then bit her lip. “Unless you’d want to sign up too? We could take the classes together and learn to sew? I bet you could make outfits just as nice as this one…and I bet I could too. Eventually.”
She kind of felt as though this was a dumb plan. Asking a stranger to take a sewing class was not really the way to get to be friends…or maybe it was. It had been too long honestly since she had made a new friend…and she had almost forgotten how.
“You don’t have to, I mean…you just seemed interested and it would be fun not to…not to be all alone.”

"Mmm I know how that goes! Just get distracted by something and before you know it, you're lost. Happens to me all the time!" It almost came off as December sounding proud of being the absentminded young man he was, rather than sympathetic of Kelly. Either way, he did notice the fading smile and wondered if it was his fault for asking. Had he made her uncomfortable...?
No, didn't seem that way, not with the way she asked him to join the class and immediately he beamed at her, taking her hand.
"That sounds like an awesome idea! New friends, new skills! I bet we can both become the absolute best at it and we'll have all the hands turning, er, heads!" As he chatted away, clearly very thrilled to be asked to do anything with anyone one, he pulled Kelly along, heading towards the class schedules. He hoped there was one or two open when they were both available. Besides school and being near his boss sometimes, he really didn't have any plans.
"What time would work best for you? Oooh, maybe an afternoon class? Do you have school? Oh, that would be an issue then, maybe a weekend... Or maybe after school... OOH we could do it one night, and grab like, lunch or dinner or something before hand! Chat it up, things friends do and all that! My name's December, by the way, what's yours?"

She hadn’t expected him to say yes…and to tell the truth, she wasn’t quite sure that she had even wanted him to say yes. But when he did, when he grabbed her hand and began tugging her towards the classrooms, she gave a real smile and even laughed for a second. “You…you’re serious about this?” There was a sparkle in her eyes that had been missing for a few months. It wasn’t bright…but it was there.
Kelly nodded. “I do have school, but I would be fine with something after school…or on weekends or…” She hesitated and then shrugged. “If there’s a baking class or a cake decorating class we could sign up for that too? I think that would be a lot of fun…and I’m Kelly. It’s really, really nice to meet you, December…thank you.”
The words were sincere, and there was a lot more to them, but he didn’t need to know all of the details of her life…it was too complicated anyway…but this would be nice. Learning new things…with a new friend.
There was another smile on her face, and this one didn’t seem to be in any hurry to leave.

"Yup! One hundred and seventy-two percent serious! No reason not to, right?" Once they got to the board, December let go of her hand in favor of pointing at the list of activities and dragging a finger down it.
"Let's see... Let's see... Baking! Boom right there! Seven in the evening on Tuesdays aaaaaaaaaand, double boom, sewing class on Sundays at noon. Sound good? I think so!" Already he was scribbling his name in the time slots, his handwriting just as all over the place as he seemed to be. Satisfied with the sign up, he offered the fluffy pen the store provided to Kelly.
"It's really really nice to meet you too! I've been hoping to make a new friend sometime, and... Well, Honestly I always feel like I'm a bit much! But I think we're going to get along fantastically! And maybe I can dress some lolilta too! I think I saw some really cute shorts and stuff! Just watch, we'll be going around in style!"

Kelly couldn’t really believe what she was hearing, but she was nodding right along with everything that December said. She quickly followed his name with her own, and at the mention of him wearing Lolita clothing along with her, the light in her eyes grew a bit more.
“Are you serious? December…that would be so…so utterly awesome.”
She had never had a friend who willingly said they would dress in Lolita, and it made her heart feel very warm. This…this had been a good idea, this trip.
“Do…do you want to go and get lunch now? I…I don’t want to just go home yet…and we need to exchange phone numbers…You…” She swallowed, feeling her eyes beginning to sting. “You don’t know how much I needed a friend right now…so…thanks.” Wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, Kelly reached out and took December’s hand in her own and gave it a squeeze.
“So…food?”

"Yup again! This time, TWO Billion percent certain! Dressing up is always more fun than when you do it alone, right? And you gotta admit, matching outfits sound pretty darned cool!" December truly wasn't the most observant boy out there, no, not in the least, but even he could see the change in his new friend from the first time they met about... Five minutes ago. He took a wee bit of pride knowing that maybe it was him who had done that.
And when he felt her take his hand, he couldn't help but take it a bit further and drew her into a gentle hug. He knew that feeling of dreading going home. What was there for him now? Nothing at all. But here, with Kelly, there was something and he didn't want to let her go just yet. Well, he did let her go, physically, but he didn't want to be alone just yet either. His hand still remained in hers, and even shifted a bit to lace their fingers together.
Maybe it wasn't normal, to meet someone in a store like this. December didn't care. Her hand fit with his just fine, and in this moment it felt perfect, like the friend he had been hoping for all his life, or atleast since that night his home burned down.
"It might not seem like it, but I think I really needed a friend too. I'm so happy this worked out the way it did. I'm free to hang out as long as you like! And I'm actually starving, so food sounds so very good right now!"

The hug surprised Kelly, but she liked it, and even took a moment to nestle her face in the crook of December’s neck. He was so amazingly nice…and it felt good. She squeezed his hand after the hug was broken, enjoying the feeling of holding hands more than she really wanted to let on.
“All right! Matching outfits in the future, and food right now!” She felt stronger. She felt more alert and she felt…happy. She felt like she could actually do this. She could get through everything now that she had a friend by her side…and if she could manage it, she would keep him at her side for as long as possible.
