Cor Caroli found himself wandering and "patrolling" a lot more frequently recently. It was becoming some sort of frantic attempt to help him settle his mind, to help him make a decision. Which side was he supposed to be on? Who was really winning? Should he just smash his henshin pen into itty bitty bits and be done with everything? It was no simple decision. Something was going to get thrown away, no matter what.

As he wandered the streets of Destiny City, he felt a small black spot on the edges of his senses. Probably some Lieutenant doing... something. He felt compelled to investigate, on the very off chance that this Lieutenant was actually up to something bad. So, hopping from roof to roof, he advanced on the Lieutenant's signature, hoping to get an eyeful of who was around.

For once, actually, Larimar wasn't actively committing a bloodless murder - generally whenever their enemies made an appearance, they were mid-draining or mid-starseed pull, which was supremely inconvenient and they had to hurry along their timetable (not that they had much of a timetable in the first place, but they were hardly the pinnacle of self-defense or physical strength; there was more to any art than brute force, and this was an art, if they lacked any weapons yet).

Of course, that clearly meant it was right about time for a Senshi to make his way into their business. They didn't have time to call upon the pretense of curiosity or acceptance - only annoyance. "If you wait to come down here I'll make sure to find a better knife," was the call, clipped and sharp. "Or you could find me one to make it all that much faster."

Not actively doing anything, but definitely not friendly. Cor Caroli found himself grinning, mostly out of nervousness. A short, awkward laugh escaped him. "Getting to the point, that's nice," he called down to the Lieutenant. Sucking in a breath, he jumped off his rooftop perch and approached. "I take it you don't care for giving or receiving names? Fine, that's fine, I guess." His right fist was clenched so he could give a good swing when he got close enough. "Let's get this over with so we can both claim we did our jobs." Still, Cor had a feeling that this Lieutenant wanted to do more than claim that they did their job. This battle might get a bit risky, even with the level disparity.

Larimar just looked pointedly, progressively unimpressed. "Claiming our jobs are done is boring. I'd much rather actually do my job." Having said that, they kicked out at his knees; Larimar did not have the sort of hands that were made for punching, and regardless of their theoretical knowledge of hand-to-hand combat they were really not that interested in practicing it right this minute with someone more powerful than them.

Welp, being in an attack position and actually being ready for a fight were two very different things. "All right, give it a-" the "shot" was kicked out of Cor Caroli much as his legs were kicked from under him; he took a tumble as was expected. Growling to himself, he righted himself and attempted one of those low kicks he'd seen somewhere- the kind where you prop yourself up on your hands and more or less fling your leg out. It probably wouldn't do much to a Lieutenant that was more prepared than he was, but the effort had to be at least worth an A.

Cor Caroli was bigger, stronger, more powerful than Larimar was - but they had the kind of coltish build that only happened through genetics and being a late bloomer when it came to that final growth spurt, and that lent itself to dodging. One day they would be more on the offensive than this - but for safety's sake, that might be a rank away. Or two. (Hopefully only one.)

The dodge was more of a half-step away, pivoting on the ball of their foot; they lunged for him, then, a hand on his shoulder to drain because it was a good skill to practice mid-combat and also they felt kind of stupid.

That also didn't go as planned. When the lieutenant lunged towards him, Cor Caroli reflexively tried to move away, but he wasn't fast enough. The Lieutenant's hand was on his shoulder, and he had a feeling he knew where this was going. "Fine, go ahead, take a little," he grumbled. "Then your job will be done, won't it?" If he had to be drained to get this Lieutenant to buzz off, that was fine. He'd probably be drained unconscious and then who knew what would happen, but maybe he could pull away before that happened. Maybe. All things considered, he was being quite generous! Maybe the Lieutenant would let him off easy.

Draining still took effort, focus, concentration; they'd seen Ashanite do it with barely a thought, but Larimar had no natural talent for it, sometimes distracted by trying to understand the mechanics of magic. "What do you think?"

It was hardly an actual question, and they pulled Cor Caroli's energy from him slowly, uninterested in the kill but still working on maintaining an air of 'capable, powerful'.

Right, there it went. Cor shrugged, his eyes going to the energy being collected. "Maybe, maybe not. The year's job isn't done, but maybe the day's job is done. So... yes? No?" He was going to hold still for now, but the second he felt like he was going to pass out, he was going to pull away. "Any minute now," he mumbled, somewhere between waiting patiently and carefully monitoring himself.

Larimar squinted at him a little, an incredulous flicker in their eyes. "Never try to be a comedian." Their nails dug into his shoulder harder than they needed to, focusing, brows furrowed to keep it still -- the drain had slowed, flickered almost out, when they'd talked. It needed a little extra effort to keep going.

Even if it felt like forever, though, eventually Larimar was done and they pulled away from Cor Caroli, pocketing all they'd taken. "You can leave first. I'm not interested in you trying to backstab me."

"What do you- ow, never mind." Yeah, really, what'd this one mean by "never try to be a comedian?" It was practically part of Cor's being to introduce a little levity, or at least, it was at one point. He watched the ball of energy grow, and after a while it did indeed feel like it was taking forever. The wooziness was sneaking up on him too, so he felt quite some relief when the Lieutenant finally stopped. "Thank god for small mercies," he mumbled when he was released. "Backstab? Nah. Too much trouble. But thanks anyway." With a too-casual wave over his shoulder, Cor Caroli hobbled off to somewhere he could get some rest.
