Before you create your character, it is important you understand what each stat and skill represents so you may craft according to your vision for them.

Keep in mind that no stat in this system are "junk stats". If you neglect one too severely, pray that you are part of a team with a complementary character or your character may find themselves in hopeless situations if not well matched. Also, you have to remember that while skills will upgrade somewhat rapidly, stats will upgrade very rarely.

You must also understand that all skills are linked to a specific stat that will influence all checks pertaining to it. For example, if you need to roll an Athletics check to avoid an Area of Effect jutsu, you will use the following formula: d20 + Str Mod + 1 per 5 in Athletics.

Strength measures your character's muscles and physical power. This ability is especially important when using taijutsu in combat, and it helps when moving heavy objects, swimming, breaking bones and objects or trying to break free of a grapple. When you have high strength you have a higher chance of hitting when fighting with most styles and weapons, and also have higher taijutsu/melee weapon attack damage.

Your character's strength will usually be pitted an opponent's dexterity to determine whether an attack will hit or not and, as such, must not be neglected as it is a cornerstone of combat.

~Strength Related Skills~

Athletics

Athletics determines your character's overall physical prowess. May it be for climbing, leaping, carrying objects or otherwise, being skilled in athletics will generally help your character overpower obstacles using raw, physical strength.

Athletics has various uses in combat, among others:

- Escaping from certain types of bindings;
- Carrying heavier set characters;
- Avoiding damage from certain jutsus which require to swim, leap, or avoid being crushed;

Taijutsu

Taijutsu (体術, Literally meaning: Body Techniques) is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimisation of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. Although it is used by nearly all ninja, only a few of them use it as their primary fighting style.

It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally requires no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses. Simply put, Taijutsu encompasses all types of hand-to-hand combat.

While taijutsu is a general term for what we commonly call Close Quarters Combat (CQC), one does not become proficient in all types of taijutsu because they train in one. Therefore as your character upgrades taijutsu, you must identify which type it is develloping. For example, all shinobis have basic knowledge in CQC which allows them to access basic taijutsu techniques. However, certain shinobis, like Rock Lee and Might Guy, use Konoha's signature Taijutsu technique Goken (Strong fist), while the Hyuuga use Juuken (Gentle Fist), which have their specific requirements and techniques. Therefore, you must identify on your character sheet all Taijutsu schools mastered by your character:

- Taijutsu (CQC)
- Taijutsu (Gōken)
- Taijutsu (Jūken)

Increasing your skill in taijutsu has direct and significant combat benefits:

- Increases chances to hit an opponent with that specific taijutsu style;
- Increases damage dealt with that fighting style;
- Allows you character to learn higher level techniques from that taijutsu style

Bukijutsu

A ninja's use of weaponry in combat is known as "bukijutsu" (武器術, Literally meaning: Weapon Techniques). All ninja use a weapon at some point in their careers, but not all do so regularly.

Weapons can be just as useful on the battlefield as any other jutsu in a ninja's arsenal, either due to the weapon's design, its special abilities, or the unique way in which a ninja combines it with his or her other skills. Ninjas may also learn to coat their weapons with their chakra to alter the weapon's properties, a process called chakra flow.

Given the wide variety of weapons, shinobis are rarely proficient in more than a few. Like taijutsu, bukijutsu skill is developed according to the weapon types your character is proficient with:

- Bukijutsu (Blades)
- Bukijutsu (Polearms)
- Bukijutsu (Fist Weapons)

See the Weapon Combat section for more details.

Increasing your skill in bukijutsu has direct and significant combat benefits:

- Increases chances to hit an opponent with that specific weapon style;
- Increases damage dealt with that weapon style;
- Allows you character to learn higher level techniques from that weapon style

Dexterity is one of if not the most defining skill for traditional shinobis. It measures their hand-eye coordination, agility, reflexes, swiftness and balance. In combat, dexterity primarily increases your ability to dodge and react to attacks.

Even though dexterity rarely has an impact on your character's damage output, it is nevertheless an extremely valuable skill as it is a large part of your character's survivability, being the skill that allows your character to dodge attacks and evade jutsus.

~Dexterity Related Skills~

- Plant objects on an opponent inconspicuously, such as poison or explosive tags;
- Disarming an opponent through certain techniques.

Constitution represents your character's health and stamina. The higher your character's constitution, the longer he can last in battle {the higher his HP} or hard physical conditions, such as running for extended periods of time, spending long periods of time underwater, or even resisting poison.

The importance of developing is fairly obvious to anyone as having more HP means lasting longer in physical combat which translates to outlasting your opponent (and therefore winning).

~HP Calculation~

The formula to determine your character's HP:

HP = 50 + [5 x Constitution Modifier]

Therefore, if your character has a Con Mod of -2, you character will have: 50 + [5 x -2] = 50 - 10 = 40 HP.

~Constitution Related Skills~

Endurance

Endurance measures your character's ability to stave off ill effects and to push themselves beyond normal physical limits. This can take many forms, such as holding your breath for long periods of time, forestalling the debilitating effects of hunger and thirst, and swimming or running for extended periods of time. It also measures your character's physical ability to withstand environmental hazards, including extreme temperatures, violent weather, diseases or poisons.

Endurance has numerous uses in combat, among others:

- Resisting techniques meant to affect your character's body from the inside;
- Resisting techniques involving physical strain such as extreme temperatures or drowning;
- Allowing your character to perform strenuous exercise for prolonged periods of time.

Charisma measures the character's force of personality, persuasiveness, personal magnetism, ability to lead. It is, in a way, the "Strength" of mental combat, as it determines your character's ability to get under someone's skin, may it be to seduce, intimidate, or impress them. Therefore, higher charisma translates in higher chances of making mental attack hit home and increases the mental damage they cause.

Your character's charisma will usually be pitted against an opponent's intelligence to determine whether a mental attack will "hit" or not and, as such, is just as important as strength to the complete fighter.

~Charisma Related Skills~

Perform

The Perform skill determines your character's ability at various actions meant to deceive enemies. May it be controlling your voice's pitch, acting as a different person, entrancing with music, this skill will usually be used in conjunction with various techniques to increase their efficiency. Therefore, while, at first, it might be a skill combat specialists may be tempted to look past, it will pay dividends in numerous situations if used efficiently.

Increasing your skill in perform has direct and significant combat benefits:

- Will be the cornerstone of many tactics and therefore increase their efficiency;
- Increases the efficiency of many distractions to maximize efficiency of stealth combat;
- Increases the efficiency of many kijutsu techniques.

Kijutsu

Kijutsu (気術, Literaly meaning: Mind Techniques) are techniques meant to affect an opponent's resolve, motivation or general psyche.

These techniques usually require no chakra and give their adept the possibility of taking down physically superior opponents who might not be as psychologically resilient as they are physically.

While all Kijutsu are designed to affect an opponent's psyche, there are different methods of reaching that objective. Some opponents may be more vulnerable to intimidation, others to seduction while diplomacy may be the way to some characters' mind. Thus, you must identify which Kijutsu technique your character is developing:

- Kijutsu (Intimidation)
- Kijutsu (Diplomacy)
- Kijutsu (Seduction)

Increasing your skill in kijutsu has direct and significant combat benefits:

- Increases chances to hit an opponent with that specific kijutsu style;
- Increases damage dealt with that style;
- Allows you character to learn higher level techniques from that kijutsu style.

Intelligence determines how well your character thinks and reasons. This ability is very important as it will be your character's first line of defense against most mental attacks. It is therefore especially important against genjutsu users, since the higher your intelligence score is the hardest it will prove for the genjutsu to take hold.

Our system treating mental combat on equal footing with physical combat, developing intelligence is extremely important as mental combat specialists will destroy a character with sub par levels in that skill.

Intelligence also has an impact on certain combat tactics which will be discussed in their own section.

~Intelligence Related Skills~

First Aid

First Aid is your character's skill at treating basic wounds. The life of a shinobi being one of combat, violence and pain, it is strongly recommended that all shinobis have basic skills in FIrst Aid to at least be able to take care of basic wounds, such as cuts and burns.

First Aid has various uses in combat, among others:

- Recovering HP without having to spend CP;
- Stopping HP loss from various status ailments.

Wisdom determines a character's willpower, common sense, perception and intuition. While intelligence helps you analyze information, wisdom helps you deal with and manage it. Thus wisdom helps with resisting mental attacks as well as determining your character's ability to tune in to their surroundings (sight, hearing, smell, etc.).

Like constitution, wisdom will have a direct impact on your character's ability to last in battle as it will determine their mental health (MHP).

~MHP Calculation~

The formula to determine your character's MHP is:

MHP = 50 + [5 x Wisdom Modifier]

Therefore, if your character has a Con Mod of +4, you character will have: 50 + [5 x 4] = 50 + 20 = 70 MHP.

~Wisdom Related Skills~

Perception

Perception lets you spot, hear, or otherwise detect the presence of something. It measures your general awareness of your surroundings and the keenness of your senses. For example, you might try to hear a conversation through a closed door, eavesdrop under an open window, or hear enemies moving stealthily in the forest. Or you might try to spot things that are obscured or easy to miss, whether it is an ambush on a road or thugs hiding in the shadows of an alley.

Perception has numerous uses, some in combat. Among others:

- Navigating hostile areas while influencing encounter chances;
- Tracking specific targets more efficiently;
- Resisting techniques that affect the environment.

Chakra is the energy needed by a ninja to perform techniques. Being the cornerstone of basically every technique in the Naruto universe, its importance is well reflected in our system. As such, its main use is to determine your character's total chakra pool, allowing them to cast more jutsus before being "tapped out". Also, the amount of raw chakra available to your character to pour into jutsus increases their potency, making them usually either harder to evade or resist and increasing their damage.

Chakra being the foundation of both genjutsu and ninjutsu, this same stat will have benefits in both mental and physical combat.

~CP Calculation~

The formula to determine your character's CP from your Chk stat is:

CP = 100 + [10 x Chakra Modifier]

Therefore, if your character has a Chk Mod of 0, you character will have: 100 + [10 x 0] = 100 + 0 = 100 CP.

~Chakra Related Skills~

Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu (忍術, Literally meaning: Ninja Techniques) is one of the three main jutsu categories. Ninjutsu is the most nebulous of the three and may most simply be described as anything that is not genjutsu or taijutsu. Most ninjutsu require chakra and hand seals, but this is not always the case since the mere usage of weaponry qualifies as ninjutsu. The huge range of ninjutsu's uses is illustrated by its several sub-classifications: medical ninjutsu, reincarnation ninjutsu, space–time ninjutsu, barrier ninjutsu, sealing jutsu, and Cursed Seal jutsu.

Most ninjutsu use shape transformation, nature transformation, or both: shape transformation deals with controlling the form and movement of the ninjutsu, while nature transformation deals with changing the ninjutsu's physical properties.

Given the very wide variety of ninjutsu types, your character obviously needs to train each of them separately. Your character sheet must therefore explain which ninjutsu schools are trained:

- Ninjutsu (Shape Transformation)
- Ninjutsu (Summoning)
- Ninjutsu (Water Release)

Increasing your skill in ninjutsu has direct and significant combat benefits:

- Usually increases chances to hit an opponent with that specific ninjutsu style;
- Usually increases damage dealt with that jutsu style;
- Allows you character to learn higher level techniques from that ninjutsu style

Fūinjutsu

Fūinjutsu (封印術, Literally meaning: Sealing Techniques) are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. Fūinjutsu can also be used to restrict movement or unseal objects either from within something or someone.

The presence of a seal is marked by the appearance of formations of technique formulae, kanji, or else other kinds of symbols (likewise with Summoning Techniques).

Increasing your skill in fūinjutsu has direct and significant combat benefits:

- Usually increases the potency of seals;
- Allows you character to learn higher level seals.

Genjutsu

Genjutsu (幻術, Literally meaning: Illusionary Techniques) is one of the main jutsu categories which uses chakra. Unlike ninjutsu, the effects of genjutsu are not real, being only illusions experienced by those who fall victim to it.

Genjutsu is created when a ninja controls the chakra flow of a target's cerebral nervous system, thereby affecting their five senses. This is frequently used to create false images and/or trick the body into believing its has experienced physical pain. Genjutsu can also be used to manipulate others, similar to brainwashing, by feeding the victim illusive suggestions. Most genjutsu is performed visually, requiring the target make eye contact with the caster. Audible genjutsu is deemed the most dangerous because the user can trap victims from long distances.

Despite its usefulness, genjutsu is rarely employed, most shinobi preferring the real, tangible effects of ninjutsu and taijutsu over the imagined effects of genjutsu. The difficulty of performing genjutsu in the first place presents an additional barrier to its use: genjutsu require precise chakra control in order to manipulate the target's senses and advanced intelligence to make the illusion convincing.

Those under the influence of genjutsu will either appear to be unconscious or continue to move around under the pretence of the genjutsu. The latter is very effective in battle as a genjutsu user can make themselves appear to be somewhere else and attack the victim from behind or change the environment to make the victim see a flat plain where there is a steep cliff.

Increasing your skill in genjutsu has direct and significant combat benefits:

- Usually increases chances to trap an opponent;
- Usually increases damage dealt with genjutsu;
- Allows you character to learn higher level genjutsu techniques.

Relation Between Stats

To summarize, every stat has an impact on either your ability to hit an opponent, defend attacks or withstand damage:

Strength attacks Constitution which is defended by Dexterity

Charisma attacks Wisdom which is defended by Intelligence

Chakra attacks Constitution/Wisdom which are defended by Intelligence/Dexterity

Therefore, remember that even if focusing on specific stats will make your character more apt in certain types of missions, neglecting stats can have dire consequences on their survivability, especially if your character ventures on missions by themselves.
