The holidays are close to ending and it’s time to start packing away your decorations. In a stroke of bad luck, you drop an ornament (or other small bauble) and it shatters. Inside was a strange, glistening dust that you accidentally inhale. You are immediately met with a strong hallucination of a previous holiday memory. It only lasts for a few moments, but it feels like you are back in the memory, reliving it. It seems so real but when it ends, you are back in the present with no trace of the dust left in sight. Which holiday memory did you relive, and how do you react to being torn from it?

Pyro didn’t quite have decorations to put away, away. He had a small like fake tree that him and Hauyne probably swiped from target after hours when no workers had been around. It was half the size of him and would probably just go into the dumpster...er if Negaspace had one. In fact, as he picked up the fake plant with crappy ornaments to dispose of, one of the ornaments fell and shattered. He was like 100% sure these were supposed to be plastic ones so how did plastic shatter.

As it did though, Pyro got a whiff of some strange glitter dust. What the s**t man, that was super terrible. He hated that glitter s**t with a passion, and why people put it in a plastic (or should’ve been plastic) ornament was beyond him. He didn’t even take a step before everything shifted and he was moved from his room in the nega castle to….his room at home?

He looked down and didn’t see the scales on his skin anymore, which immediately concerned him. He wanted to be like “What the ********…” but instead of that, a voice called out for him to come downstairs and he remembered what this was. One of the worst christmas memories that he could’ve been thrown back in. Helpless to escape his own body, he watched as it(himself) walked down the stairs to where his family was waiting. His mom, dad, grandparents and aunt/uncles of various different sides. There was at least 5 different cousins there, 3 younger than him and 2 older. He didn’t particularly care about his cousins, as he only saw them during the holidays. That was what happened when he wasn’t spending his time with his parents.

They were all smiling, though when he entered the room, the room went silent for a moment before going again. “Since Griffon is here.” His mom clapped as if to break the heavy spell of judgement and disapproval. He could feel his body crossing its arms and setting itself on the floor next to his cousins. He had been 12 years old that christmas. Didn’t believe in santa but hadn’t asked for much because he knew his parents had been struggling. He wanted a new skateboard and some cool clothes to wear for school. Real simple stuff you know. He knew his cousins asked for new consoles for gaming, or his even older ones as for laptops and stuff.

His dad took over the passing of presents around, which under their tree looked like a giant mountain! All the families had brought all their presents over so it was no surprise it was so big. As his dad passed out the presents, Griffon waited patiently for one to come to him and it took….well….by the time his first present had come his way, his cousins were already deep in their stockings and piles around them. They all had exciting games and consoles and some clothes but mostly things they asked for.

His first present had been socks. He didn’t complain.

His second present had been notebooks for school. That was confusing, he had plenty of those.

His third and final present had been one hoodie he had asked for. The mountain of presents still remained and he looked hopefully towards it. He waited….and waited.

And waited.

And then there was none and his cousins were playing with their new toys and games. Disappointed, angry and sad, Griffon gathered his items.

“Well Griffon? What do you say to her family who gave you those?” His mom said concedingly, and Griffon just looked at her like she was crazy. Say thanks for what? He barely had anything but everyone else got piles of stuff. He got shitty presents! He didn’t even get the skateboard, the one thing he had asked for. “Griffon?” His mom stood now and he could feel the tears burning at his eyes. Say thank you.

“Thanks.” He muttered before taking the three items and going up to his room. As he left, he could hear his grandma whispering to his mom, about being the most ungrateful child she had ever met. His mother agreed and said that this was a good lesson for him. His cousins laughed, his whole family laughed.

That night was the first night that Griffon had snuck out of the house and made his way into the gang type of the world. If he was so ungrateful, he’d find a better place to belong.

The memory fade and Pyrophanite snorted. It was a shitty thing to see but didn’t matter anymore. He had found a better place to belong after all. Nega’s gave him everything he ever wanted and more.

That’s really what mattered this christmas.
