With each passing year, you accumulate more stuff. Your new holiday gifts have been put out, but now is the perfect time to make some extra space and purge your old belongings. Donation centers are bustling but there’s never a bad time to give to the needy. Going through your belongings, you may find any number of things. Something you thought was lost? Or just a bad case of nostalgia? Now is a good time to reflect on what is important to you—and maybe actually find some things you can part with.
There was just one things about the Holiday season that Bluebell didn't care for at all. Off the top of her head some people might think about the fruit cakes, how everything smelled like peppermint, th sheer about of lotions you get as gifts from acquaintances, or the cold. But Bluebell could easily put up with all of those things, in fact she used a peppermint body wash year round, no what she hated was much worse. After ringing in the new year with her parents she was always forced to go through her room and look for 'old things' that could be donated.
It's not that she didn't like donating, no she felt it was only right for her to donate her old things. Her problem was the sheer volume of old things that she always had. Plus, there were certain items that despite not being used anymore, she wanted to keep around for certain sentimental values. Her mother had a different definition of what counted as a 'sentimental item'. They did not include a hat you were wearing during your first kiss, or a lucky pair of socks you wore in a tournament, or the box full of old movie tickets that you kept promising you would make into a cool album someday. If you hadn't done it by now, you're never going to, her mother would always say.
What did it really matter anyway? It's not like she was running out of room for any of her things! They basically lived in a mansion and her own bedroom was fairly large. But that was the problem. Despite how large her room was, her things were beginning to spill into other rooms. This year, her mother brought four boxes into her room and said they needed to be filled. Or else.
Bluebell wasn't interested in finding out what she meant about that, so she spent hours digging through her room, finding all sorts of things that hadn't been touched in years. Perhaps the most amusing of all had been a stash of fairy wings she had run around her house in as a child. The ranged in many different shapes and a rainbow of colors. As much as she would have loved to keep them, she knew if her mother found them even after she filled all the boes, she'd only be scolded for it later. Afterall, she was far too old to run around in them now. Although, she was small enough that they would probably still fit.
It took her almost a whole day to finally fill the boxes, but eventually she was convinced to part with enough things. There were plenty of shoes, shirts, and dresses that she no longer wore. Many of them she couldn't even remember owning, which was definitely a good sign that someone else would appreciate them way more than she had. It made her sort of sad to think about how she had been hoarding all sorts of things she never used. It would probably be a good idea to keep a more limited wardrobe from now on.
