Hopeite has soon discovered that there was no way around the onerous task of asking Arseno for help. It seemed like year ago she had been taunting him in the streets for being weak and now... look at her. She had gone to him, tail between her legs, asking for help. Not that she'd let down her bravado for a second, boasting about kidnapping an eternal, hearing stories about his starseed research and her interest in seeing it at play. Never reveal your cards. Never reveal your need. At this point, Hopeite was so wrapped up in lies she was having difficulty finding truth in her life. The long lie with Harmonia, pretending to be her friend, trying to find that line between the ploy that she had crafted and the genuine affection breeding like a choking weed in her heart. I don't need you Arseno, I don't need anyone, but where did that lie end? At it's ill-convieced beginning? And then the biggest lie of all that she would never, ever breath life into.

Over rooftops and across dimly lit streets she led the general, silent as the grave as she retreated into herself to try and solve the riddle of her life yet again. She knew the way well enough that she didn't need to look outward. Her feet knew the way. Her legs carried her on their own. Her body turned the corners without the instruction of her otherwise occupied mind. In this, at least, she could trust. There were so few certainties in her life at that moment that the knowledge that Harmonia was safe and contained in the warehouse, waiting for her arrival, and that her body knew the way without the need of her mind was great comfort.

"She's through here," Hopeite stated simply, her mind still lost in the constant and unending unraveling of her own web of deceit. To the left of the door was a cat who had clearly just arrived judging by the way that he was still settling into his spot.

"Good morning, Sweetling," Hopeite sung, finally dragging her mind back to the present. "We have a visitor today. Say hello for me."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 05, 2018 9:36 pm

It had been....too long. Far too long since she'd seen any sign of daylight beyond the portal that Hopeite used to enter and exit the warehouse. The constant darkness was doing little to raise the Eternals spirits and her pallor and demeanor showed it. She sagged against her restraints. The plastic ties had ground in, scarred, and cut again at her wrists. Her ankles were spared the damage thanks to her boots, but her feet were almost always in a constant state of tingling from lack of use. Not to mention her shoulder ached from it's improper healing.

Even though Hopeite hadn't intended to physically harm Harmonia, it was being done slowly over time. Months of abuse was showing.

She didn't stir when she heard the door open. Short, badly cropped hair hung around her face as she partially dozed. Sleep was always fleeting and short. No, she didn't move until she heard Hopeite mention a visitor. For some odd reason a swell of hope rose in the Eternal and she snapped from her dozing state to see who it was she brought along. Perhaps the woman had a change of heart and brought someone to help free Harmonia?

That fleeting thought was quickly abolished when another officer came into sight. What's going on now?

Arseno hadn't been sure how the word had gotten out, or perhaps he had been too comfortable where he had performed his experiments in the Cathedral, but somehow Hopeite had come to him asking for his... 'help'. He had looked at her with a suspicious face, until the agent had told him that she had an eternal senshi captive and that he could help her with some starseed experiment.

He had raised a brow at that. All of his experiments had been on civilians. He hadn't really cared for going after senshi. After all, he was trying to use this as a way to help people in the future. Senshi could be killed for all he cared. Nevertheless... experimenting on a senshi wasn't going to be something that he could do again in the near future, and an eternal one at that. And so he had agreed to help her, and had followed her to the warehouse that the senshi was contained in.

Although Arseno had thought it unwise to keep a human captive in a warehouse, it seemed that this place was either under Negaverse control, or they were just cheap in getting any sort of security guards to patrol the place. Certainly they would have heard screams or moans or something by this point.

He followed Hopeite inside and saw the eternal senshi, showing that she had definitely been tortured before Hopeite had asked for help. He sent a look towards Hopeite before looking back at the senshi. He really didn't know what to say. He could have been honest, saying what was going to happen to the poor girl, but he wondered what sort of mind games had been played on the senshi, if she would really believe him. He didn't much care about Hopeite's reaction. That was the good part of being a general, he had power over captains and lieutenants whether they followed him or not. Not much, but enough to make them listen at least.

He sighed, finally turning towards Hopeite. "Well, you're the one who brought me here. You want to tell her what's going on?" Though he doubted the other would be honest. Arseno didn't like torture though, and he would try to make it as painless as possible for the eternal. Unfortunately, he hadn't yet found an anesthetic that would work during the process of pulling a starseed.

"Oh now, dear, don't be like that," Hopeite chided, walking around the girl and propping her head up with a gentle hand beneath her chin. With her free hand, Hopeite began her usual ritual of working the snarls from her hair as best she could, which was considerably easier now with her hair chopped off short. Her Where her fingers caught, Hopeite gently worked and pulled, sorting them out before she took a brush to it later.

"This is Harmonia, General. My pride and my joy. Isn't that right, love?" Hopeite stroked the girl's hair affectionately for a pensive moment before she let her chin go and went back to the box that served as storage for her little retreat. she returned with her normal tools, a rag, now musty-smelling and dirty-grey, a spray bottle of water, and a brush. She began working at the smaller snags as she spoke to Arseno.

"I brought Harmonia here for some experimentation of my own. Nevermind the reason. However, she has been incredibly... stubborn... in her beliefs. but just look at the poor dear. Any day now she'll want the pain and heartache to stop... I asked you here to help me quicken that process." And that was really all of the backstory that she was prepared to give. She finished with Harmonia's hair and then doused the cloth yet again and set to cleaning the grime from her face. "Harmonia, darling, this General is here to do a little work of his own. I hope you don't mind, sweetling, but I volunteered you for some starseed work... whatever that means..." Hopeite moved from Harmonia's face to har hands, cleaning the dried blood from her wrists and checking for any infection. Couldn't' have her going septic on her when she was so close to being finished, after all." Once Hopeite was finished and Harmonia was all clean -- or as clean as she could be given the circumstances -- Hopeite returned to Arseno's side and crossed her arms.

"And that's all I know, unfortunately, darling. Everything else will be up to the General." She turned to Arseno and spoke in a lower voice, asking, "I do, however, have a small request. Bend her. Do not break her. A broken senshi is useful to no one. A bent one can work. For my purposes, if I feel that you have gone too far and are on the verge of shutting her down, I will request that you stop. I need her pliant, still."

This had been months happening. In fact, Harmonia had gotten to the point that fighting just wasn't worth the waste of energy. Why bother pulling away from those hands as they went about their usual routine? A part of the eternal kept hoping that the Lieutenant would forget about draining her if she just behaved. That would give Harmonia enough time to recover and hopefully get herself out.

So, when fingers pulled at snarls, that musty, dirty rag was used as an attempt to clean her up, Harmonia barely moved away. At most, if the rag came too close to her nose she'd hold her breath or lean back away from it, but that was it. Just let the Lieutenant do as she wished. If nothing else, it was keeping Harmonia from completely and utterly reeking, at least the teen hoped so. It was hard to tell when one's nose became used to a stench.

Green eyes slid to the General at the mention of starseeds. An obvious fear leapt into her features as her heart began to race at what her imagination was quickly showing her. Not to mention the memories of Laurelite lording over her. Those memories were so fractured and pieced together but still had enough sway over the senshi to instill the fear.

"No. Let's....let's not do that?" She murmured, her eyes shifting to Hopeite in her plea. "I can't deal with that again. Please don't."

Arseno sighed. So it seemed that Hopeite wouldn't be of much use during any of this. He even considered sending her away, not to keep her from looking, but because even in the background she would probably be annoying and hovering and just generally in the way. He still wondered why she had brought him here, though he supposed that it was Hopeite wanting to torture the eternal and possibly manipulating her.

Just for a second he thought about killing the eternal, letting it all be over with, making it so that she could no longer be tortured by Hopeite. And Hopeite would be so angry with him, it would be glorious.

But no, he wouldn't do it. However, that meant that the eternal was probably going to be quite messed up after he was through with her. And there would be consequences he was sure. To mess with an eternal like this... But if he was truly worried he would make sure to throw Hopeite under the bus.

"I don't know what's happened to you in the past." And Arseno wondered if it had been that bad how the eternal had thought befriending a lieutenant had been a good idea. He supposed some people would always believe in the good of others. His brother seemed to at a point, but recently Jason finally seemed to have opened his eyes and Arseno felt confident that he wouldn't have to keep protecting his little brother for too much longer. Though at this point there was probably a bit of Stockholm syndrome mixed in there too for the eternal.

"Since Hopeite is leaving it up to me, I'm only going to perform a few experiments with your starseed. It won't be ripped out, but since I haven't yet found an anesthetic that works on starseeds, it's going to be painful." He wondered if he should be telling her this. Perhaps he should just knock her out. After all, he didn't want her getting the word out as to what he was doing. It would be much easier to continue his experiments if he didn't have to keep watching his back all the time. He sighed again, this time moving so that he grabbed the eternal. She was entirely too weak for his taste at this point, and this was going to be harder than he thought. If only Hopeite had brought her to his room this would all be so much easier.

He grabbed her shoulders, and slowly tried to move her till she was on the ground, her back against the floor. It would be easier this way. "You have to work with me here. I don't expect to be here long." He shot a look at Hopeite. He still didn't know what she was expecting him to do, and a little information on what she was trying to accomplish would have been helpful, but it seemed that either she didn't even know what she wanted to do, or she had such a warped view that she was seeing things that he neither he nor the eternal were. Where does the Negaverse find these people? He thought to himself, sighing before going to get his tools that he had placed next to him, making sure there was still a light shining down.

Harmonia's pleas sent shivers up Hopeite's spine. Again? Hopeite cast Harmonia a curious look as Arseno began setting up. What did she mean again? Something tight coiled in Hopeite's stomach; a truly curious sensation that wrapped itself around her gut. The suffering... she really could not stand the suffering. She knew it was a necessary evil of what she wanted to accomplish; of the lesson that she wanted to teach Harmonia is the worst kind of way. How did she train herself out of this visceral reaction to the action? Would peace come with increased rank? Arseno didn't seem at all ruffled by Harmonia's pleas for mercy... how had he trained himself out of his pathetic humanity.

As she wathced, however, Hopeite realized with sudden clarity that he had done no such thing. The softness with which he moved her, the unspoken apologies for the pain that she was about to endure. He was still weak and human like the rest of them. Hopeite crossed her arms over her chest, swallowing back a sound of disgust. The more Harmonia saw the humanity in people the more she would try to appeal to it to save herself. She would latch on to that softness like a viper and try to suck whatever she could from it, as would any of her kind. The only way to keep her from killing them -- to keep her kind of killing all of them -- was to show no weakness and no mercy.

Anesthetic...

What reason did they have for making the girl more comfortable? Hopeite circled around so that she could see what was happening more clearly and watched for a long moment before she spoke up, her voice soft so as to avoid distraction on too large a scale.

"Would you mind, General, explaining what you do here? I know so precious little about starseeds, any knowledge to add to that would be welcomed."

She cocked her head at Harmonia, lips twisted into a toxic little grin.

"Perhaps the girl would like to know as well. the countdown before the p***k, as it were..." There as, after all, anesthetic in ignorance. If someone didn't expect the needle piercing the flesh they didn't have time to amplify the pain in their own minds... but each heartbeat down to zero blew the sensation to painful proportions and drew the moment out impossibly long. Would this be the same? If Harmonia knew is exact detail what Arseno was doing to her, would her mind magnify her suffering as it would the pinprick of an injection? What would that pretty little head concoct for her nerves, already live-wire frayed from months alone with no one but her capture and satueque cats to keep her company? Arseno could have his starseeds, so long as Hopeite could have her surplus. What she was interested in, after all was said and done, was how she could bend the human mind and twist it to her own ends.

Harmonia’s eyes darted from the General to the Lieutenant. A Pleeing look heavy in those green orbs as her words seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. Again. She was beginning to feel like a broken record with Hopeite, but still, she continued to drone on her wish for freedom. It had been months since she’d seen any more daylight than what spilled in through the portal which her capture utilized.

Restraints were loosened and Harmonia felt herself being maneuvered to the floor. The cold hard cement eeked out any warmth the senshi had in her body almost immediately and a shiver ran up her spine. The perk of this was, free limbs meant the ability to fight back. Even with her shoulders being held, the Eternal attempted to kick and force herself free. If it had been against Hopeite she may have stood a chance at overpowering the Lieutenant, even in her weakened state, but against a General...She was going to try anyway.

Knowing that Hopeite was circling around them like some bird of prey, ready to swoop in didn’t even cross Harmonia's mind as she tried to ignore everything being said. The mere idea that they were intending to go after her starseed was enough to terrify her, and she was not intending to make it an easy venture. “Let. Go!” She huffed as she attempted to grab hold of the General and spin them so she was on top. In that moment, she’d have the advantage. That was all she needed, Harmonia was sure of it.

Arseno was surprised that the senshi finally found her strength as she tried to wrestle him over. Though she wouldn't get too far even if she managed to get on top of him. Hopeite wouldn't want to let go of her toy, though Arseno knew she probably wouldn't save him. She managed to get him in the stomach, but that only managed to anger him. He was already slightly annoyed coming here, and the fact that the senshi was now fighting was getting on her nerves. That's why he knocked out his experiments before bringing them to his workspace. He could easily strap them into the examination table that he had.

This place though? It had none of it. Which wouldn't make this easy. He went to grab one of her arms, and tried to pin her with one of his legs and looked over at the lieutenant. "You have anything to restrain her? It would be a lot easier for me to do this if she wasn't able to kick me." Or punch him, or flail around, or really just move in general. Seriously, he wouldn't be able to get anything done if she could still get a boost of adrenaline and fight.

Though Hopeite couldn't bring herself to be angry with Harmonia for her valiant attempt to escape... nor could she deny the thrill of something that wailed up her spine as she watched it. But more crushing was Harmonia's failure and her subsequent restraint. Still, a musical little laugh escaped Hopeite's lips before she had time to stop it, but who could blame her? It was all so terribly amusing. General Arsenopyrite upended and taken aback not only by a child but by a bound and beaten child. He didn't even have the forethought to drain her first? To do something to inebriate her and clog her senses? How did he ever get to his position of power being so... careless. At least Hopeite's recklessness was acknowledged. She knew full well what she was and the monster that she was becoming. Her file must have been a few inches thick by now, and she wore that like a badge of honor. They can't catch you if they don't know your next step, after all. But this... this just confirmed what she thought when they had first met.

Weakness.

Weakness poorly disguised as power betrayed by ill-preparedness.

Hopeite slid around to Harmonia's head and took it in her hands while she was distracted by her attempts to escape. The senshi wouldn't struggle with her head in Hopeite's grip, not unless she desired a severed spine (which would not surprise Hopeite in the lease, after all, death was a kind of escape, was it not?).

"I supposed I should have warned you about the fire in this one's spirit. It's why I chose her after all." As Hopeite spoke, an uneven string of violet pearls lifted from Harmonia's scalp and twisted up Hopeite's arms. "Such a vibrant will. Such a strong instinct to survive..." Her eyes flickered up to Arseno, something wild and chaotic to an extreme degree dancing behind their color. Even her voice mirrored this primal and terrifying vitriol that oozed through her veins, it's strange vibration causing a tremor in her words, pitching the sound down lower than her natural octave.

"As for restraints, General," she continued, her voice losing the strange manic timber that quivered on its edge just moment before, "I prefer to rely on zip ties and energy draining. Really the ties are just an insurance policy since generally, I keep her energy level low enough that she's not usually an issue. Usually." She let Harmonia's head go as gently as possible and strode back over to the crate where she stored her tools. She flicked the ties over her shoulder at Arseno with a sly, "Though, I would have thought that restraints would have been among what you would have brought with you.

Her little victories over the General brought even more bouts of hope. With that renewed hope came more spurts of energy to fight back. A kick, a thrown punch, some hit, some didn't, but the man was obviously struggling against her. Maybe I have enough energy to use my magic. The thought had just passed through her mind when she felt hands take hold of her head.

No sooner had those hands grabbed hold did Harmonia feel the tell-tale weariness of an energy drain. Hopeite's uneven draining left the senshi lethargic. Her attempts at freedom suddenly near impossible to continue on as the weariness settled into her body and mind.

"Hopeite." Harmonia's eyes roved for the woman. "Please. Let me go home." Her short hair clung to the rough warehouse floor as she craned her neck to find the woman but failed in her search. "I am so tired."

Arseno grunted back, "I usually bring them back unconcious and by the time they wake up they're already restrained. Usually don't need to worry about someone actually attacking since I only go after civilians for my experiments." It didn't matter if the eternal heard. They already knew civilians were in danger, it was one of the reasons that they fought the Negaverse after all. Arseno wanted to roll his eyes at the sentiment. Sure, attacking the innocent wasn't good, but at this point, there was only one way to save the planet, and that wasn't by going and letting everyone continue on the path they were going for. The only thing that would have been better was if they could assassinate those who were the head of the horrible companies that polluted the planet. Arseno knew he couldn't do that though, the Negaverse needed connections in high places.

Besides, his experiments was meant to save those civilians after all. He didn't like for innocents to be targeted, so if he could find a way for their starseed to be taken and for them to still live... well he would be doing them a favor now wouldn't he? And in the meantime he could continue to experiment on the criminal scum that he usually took down to his lab.

It seemed that the senshi immediately fell limp when Hopeite drained her, which allowed Arseno to grab some ties and to fasten her. Though if she regains her energy like she had before, she should be able to break out of them easily. Arseno thought, moving the woman back onto the ground and flat. It really wasn't to Arseno's liking, but he wouldn't have to be hear long. He would just take some notes, poke the starseed a bit, and leave. Since Hopeite didn't want it taken, he would allow her to do whatever she wanted after he left. He didn't care. The senshi had been dumb enough to actually be taken in by a lieutenant. Too trusting. Hopefully, if the senshi came out of this alive, she might learn something.

Without hesitation, Arseno put his hand over the eternal senshi's chest, and opened it up, revealing her starseed. He went to grab one of his tools to test the reaction of the starseed and grabbed a pen and paper he had with him to take some notes.

I'M SO SORRY

While Arseno worked, Hopeite went over to her crate of goodies and drew from its depths a glass jar, delicately tinkling with colorful shards of glass. She placed the jar down on the floor by her feet, humming lightly to herself as she worked, also pulling out a long metal spoon. She set this down next to the jar of glass and finally pulled out another tool, something that one might find in a dentists office. A large eliptical brace it almost seemed, made from flexible silicone with grooves in which the teeth could sit. Hopeite arranged these instruments before the crate, ever careful not to make too much sound and disturb the pair behind her. Not that it would matter. Hopeite knew first hand how badly being invaded in that way hurt... soon delicate screams would drown out whatever she was doing by herself over here.

She glanced back over her shoulder at the pair once she was done, and wondered if maybe she could or even should wander over and take a peek at what was going on. It wasn't until Hopeite saw something glittering against the darkness of Harmonia's chest that she made up her mind. Swiftly she moved, heeled boots clicking softly on the concrete as she did so. A moth drawn to a flame, Hopeite couched next to Harmonia, eyes trained on the jewel of her life force. Against the dimness of the warehouse, it was a sun. Starlight paled in comparison to the brightness of Harmonia's Starseed. It was whole systems of red giants colliding together to form supermassive explosions that lit up the night and made it into day.

It was... in a word... perfect...

And Hopeite had to swallow the lump in her throat as she watched Arseno prodding it, the strange feeling of territorial jealous washing over her in that moment. She glanced up at the young man that she had invited in and wondered if she had made a mistake. This was, after all, her project. Her senshi. Her Harmonia. Was this too far? Was this too much?
PostPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2018 2:46 pm

Try as she might, Harmonia was practically helpless after Hopeite drained her energy. Limbs didn't protest as they were tied up and she lay there, chest heaving at the knowledge of what was about to happen. Green eyes followed Arseno's movements like a hawk.

And then the time came and she tried to dredge up the energy to fight. Tro resist. To do SOMETHING that would stop this whole thing from happening but there just wasn't anything left and Arseno dug into her chest like it was just another day's activities.

The pain enveloped the senshi. Her breathing hitched before the screams began. Each time her starseed was poked, prodded, touched, she felt the pain. There was no awareness to anything else going on around her. Tears flowed from the corner of her eyes.

Flashes of memories from the invasion on negaspace. The pain. Laurelite's hand shoved in the same exact spot. The feeling of loss when she realized the memories that were gone. "No! no. Stop!" She wailed through the pain.

All of the screaming was why Arseno didn't like to work on conscious patients. Perhaps Hopeite was more into the sadism, but he liked his experiments to be quiet. There was a reason he conducted his experiments, to see if he could keep people ALIVE after their starseeds were taken out. To perfect the technique of allowing starseed removal, but without the loss of life and soul. He didn't need experiments to be awake for that. It was only if the experiment had truly done something wrong that he made them stay awake. There were quite a few criminals he had enacted justice on which he had made stay awake, but that was for two purposes. To make them wish they were dead, which they ended up eventually becoming anyway, and to experiment on a live specimen. Which is why the screaming was starting to get on his nerves. This senshi hadn't done anything wrong other than be too naive for her own good.

There was no point to this. He was accomplishing nothing, other than possibly getting Hopeite some sort of high off of this or something. There was no reason for this.

He withdrew his tool and his hand suddenly. He was sure that Hopeite would make fun of him for it. But he was going to become a doctor, he had an oath to fulfill, and it did make him feel guilty to do something like this to what was probably an innocent senshi. "There's no point in this." He said in disgust, almost throwing his scalpel back into it's case, though he managed to hold his anger enough and set it gently back so as to not break it.

"I can't do more if you're going to insist the senshi be awake. I don't need the wailing and distractions. Either she gets knocked out, or I leave. There is no point in me doing this, because I can't go far enough. I need to be able to test pulling it out, and if you want to keep her alive, then I can't guarantee that she'll make it through that." Well, he 100% could guarantee that the senshi wouldn't at least.
