Your Christmas cookies turned out great for once! There was no burning or dropping of the batter and now you have dozens of cookies just waiting to be eaten or given out as gifts. However, as you leave the cookies to cool and go about your business, the smell of gingerbread seems to follow you, no matter if you made gingerbread cookies or not. A strange feeling as though someone is watching you takes over and from time to time you swear that you can hear a strange little voice saying the same thing over and over. “You can’t catch me”. The feeling passes after a few hours, but it might be best to avoid gingerbread for the rest of the holiday season…just in case.
Lulu always, famously, made cookies during this time of year. They were quite popular among her family and the few friends that she had. There were many different things she could do, but this year she had decided to make mini-gingerbread houses for her friends. Not only that, but she was tackling it all from scratch. It was turning out to be more challenging than she had anticipated. There were a lot of design decisions to work on and getting just the right thickness so everything looked uniform. In the end it took her nearly two full days of baking to even get the shapes she needed to build the houses, plus all the extra little treats. Then assembly and decorating, it took her about three days to get them all done and finished.
She sat back and gave her finished product a good look, then decided to leave them be to let everything set in place. Maybe she could find something good to stream on her tv. A nice, family Christmas movie sounded good right about now. As she moved about her apartment the smell of gingerbread followed her. It wasn't too odd to her at first, after all she spent nearly three days baking. It wouldn't hurt to take a relaxing bath though. Really get rid of the gingerbread and cinnamon smell that seemed to be sticking to her. Also a chance to try out that new bath bomb she had bought recently.
As she was drawing her bath and letting the bath bomb dissolve in the water, she thought she heard a voice in her apartment somewhere. She pulled a robe on and went to the door, thinking maybe some carolers had passed by. When she didn't see anyone outside though she checked to make sure the tv in her living room was off. Nothing seemed to be out of order, probably just being paranoid.
Maybe she needed to get a cat or a dog, something to keep her company and her mind off of the strange things that always seemed to be happening when she was alone in her apartment. She went back to her bath, which was absolutely perfect when she slipped into it. The smell of the water was vanilla, and for just a moment it drowned out the smell of gingerbread. The vanilla scent only lasted for around five minute before once again her senses seemed to be overwhelmed by gingerbread again. This time she swore she heard someone call out 'You can't catch me'. And she jumped, splashing water everywhere.
Hadn't she watched a movie like this before? Evil little gingerbread men running around and causing chaos. Maybe it was time she gave up on watching scary movies, they seemed to have quite the effect on her these days. Her bath had been ruined by her paranoia and she quickly drained the tub and dressed in some of her comfortable pajamas. All the while, the gingerbread smell filled every nook and cranny of her little apartment. Even after lighting some candles it was still there. Maybe it would help if she wrapped the little houses she had made.
She got to work wrapping the little houses and tying bows around them. She was sure her friends would appreciate them. The little gingerbread men were put into a tin to take to her family's Christmas party. By the time she was done the smell had died down a bit and with it her paranoia as well. She was finally able to settle down on her couch and catch a showing of Home Alone.
