Who knew fruit cake could be so good? A local bakery claims to have perfected their recipe and is giving away free samples. The good news? It’s delicious. The bad news? A few hours after ingestion, something strange kicks in. Suddenly, everything seems so colorful and bright. The music sounds so much better, everything tastes so much better—and then, it stops, and everything is an awful blend of everything. Lights are too bright, smells and tastes are overwhelming, music sounds like noise. You’re sick enough to throw up everything in your stomach—which is good, because within a few hours of that you finally start to feel normal again.

Bluebell had been enjoying her Winter Vacation at home, spending as much time with her parents as she could manage. Her father was fairly busy around this time of year, but he made an effort to come home in the evening. Her Mom had several shoes to perform in, but somehow they still made it work. She was really looking forward to them coming home this evening because her Mom said she had picked up something special for them to enjoy that evening.

What she didn't expect, was that something to be a fruitcake. Notoriously the worst thing about the Christmas season, fruitcakes. They were hard, tasteless, and just plain gross. Someone had told her mother that it was fantastic though and that had been enough to convince her to pick it up. Not wanting to seem rude of thankless though, she sat down to enjoy a slice with her parents.

Even more surprising, it wasn't all that bad. It actually tasted pretty good, the fruits hadn't combined to just a gross hard brick. They had basically eaten the whole thing and were considering getting more to serve at the Christmas party that weekend. It seemed like a perfect idea at the time. In more time, it seemed like ann even better idea. It turned into a night of loud music and christmas cheer in no time at all. They played games, had fun, laughed. It was really a great evening. They strung up their extra lights all over the house, along the stair wells, over the fire mantle, and even the kitchen island. Many goofy and hilarious selfies were taken and posted all over social media. Things got fairly out of control quickly.

They had a few hours of fun before everything suddenly became awful. Why was the house to darn bright? What had possessed them to string up all these lights everywhere? The music was far too loud and Bluebell was quick to turn it all off. Though, there did seem to just be this loud humming that was driving her insane. She tried to drink some water to help her uneasy feeling stomach, but somehow even that was awful. It didn't take her long to empty her stomach over the toilet in her bathroom. Her parents had similar experiences. They all curled up on the couch in their living room and tried to relax.

They ended up waking up in the same place the following morning. They felt better, but looking back on the evening before it all seemed to crazy. Surely they were dreaming? Well, they might have been able to convince themselves of some weird shared dream if it weren't for all the photos online. Ugh, it had all seemed like so much fun in the moment! Bluebell was officially sworn off of fruitcake for life.

They all decided they needed a day off after an evening like that. This time they binged on some netflix Christmas movies and ate peppermint bark What was left of the fruitcake from the following evening found it's way into the trash and her mother was quick to tell her friend that had recommended it that they must be insane.
