Quote: At long last, your Holiday shopping is complete! Every last person is checked off the list, and you have time to spare. Maybe you deserve something a little extra special, too? Or is there someone you suddenly remembered? Are you just imagining that you’re done? What if you actually haven’t gotten everything finished? This time of year is always so stressful—how are you handling shopping at all?

Whilst Ashley was for the most part quite happy to pretend that the whole month of December didn't exist, she wasn't a complete Grinch about the holidays and there were a few people who she was willing to pick up Christmas cards and gifts for - even if said list was small - very small–
It was a big deal on her part, at least to Ashley's way of thinking it was, because it meant that she had to venture out of her apartment - and her preference at this time of year was to spend the time holed up in the apartment she was renting, pretending that Christmas was not happening around her and only venture out for food and Negaverse duties.
But whilst for the most part, she could handle both the present buying and the stuff to wrap the presents by ordering online, the cards still needed to be posted out - and that meant having to venture out to a post office.
It had all gone to plan - well at least mostly to plan - up until the point where she had reached Rory's card and then realised that she didn't actually have a mailing address for the younger woman.
She had been contemplating messaging or emailing to ask, but then as chance would have it she found an email from Rory when checking her emails, with the email asking if the two of them could meet up - and whilst it was a coincidence it neatly served to settle Ashley's lack of an address problem.
She had emailed back in agreement and suggested her apartment for the meetup - in part because it was cold outside, but mostly because having already ventured out to gift shop Ashley wasn't so keen to go back out - at least not anytime soon.Nuxaz Hope this works as a start Nux, but if not then lmk and I will edit asap :3

Rory had been meaning to reach out to the older girl for some time now and with the holidays quickly approaching she knew that it was now or never. most of her day to day was swept up in an over-eager, loving, but admittedly clingy boyfriend and work. Her nights were filled with quotas and training regimes and testing her new abilities now that she'd been upgraded to Eternal Sailor Hydra.
She wondered if Obsidian was proud. He never said as much, but she wanted to be that force of nature she begged him to mold her into last winter.
The result of moving beneath a different general was that she'd fallen out of touch of the people that had started to make up a team she'd been apart of. Now that she'd had the chance, she was doing her best to rectify the distance that had come. She didn't have many things that kept her grounded besides Obsidian, Angelite, and Bob within the negaverse and she wanted more friends.
So, she figured she'd start with Ashley.
It took some time getting to the bluentte's apartment but when she did, she held a small wrapped package in some cat wearing party hats paper and a tin a top the box. Nervously she knocked on the door, hoping she'd gotten to the right apartment.

Ashley had done a little tidying up in anticipation of Rory's arrival, but it had mostly amounted to tidying away some of the books that she used for her classes and shuffling the cards that she had written up into a neat pile on the computer table where she kept her laptop because she kept the place pretty neat anyway.
She had been contemplating maybe putting on the kettle whilst she waited and had gotten as far as taking down the canister where she kept the tea bags when she heard the knock at the door.
It was a short step across from kitchen area to door, but Ashley called out a "Coming" anyway, just to let whoever was at the door know that she had heard them–
And she was assuming that it was Rory and not someone trying to sell her something, if only because she was expecting the other woman - although if it turned out to be the latter then they would quickly find that she wasn't interested - particularly if what they were peddling turned out to be something festive.
As it happened, however, it turned out that it was Rory standing on the other side when she opened up the door as grey eyes took in the package and tin in the younger woman's arms with a startled look that for a moment she wasn't quite able to hide.
After a moment however she managed to recover enough to step to the side to allow the other entry as she said "I was just about to put the kettle on - would you like a cup of tea?"
And it probably wouldn't take much glancing around to notice that whilst there were a few personal items, such as the picture of Ashley with her two sisters that sat on the coffee table in the lounge area next to menus from a couple of local take out places, that the apartment was completely bare of any festive decorations.Nuxaz Basic layout of the apartment is based on something like [ this] <3

Rory spent her time waiting outside the door rocking from the balls of her feet to the heels because her hands weren't free to fidget with the hem of the long cardigan she sported over her dress. Hearing the coming in a voice she recognized, despite how faint it was, helped soothe her nerves and when the door opened, brows lifted and a smile lit up her face.
"Hi!" She chirped, almost too enthusiastically because the cold flush of her cheeks darkened and she pressed her lips together trying to tamp down her eagerness.
Stepping inside she relished the warmth that greeted her even as she took in the quaint looking apartment. Jade eyes flicked over to Ashley at her offer. "Oh, that would be wonderful." Something nice and warm sounded heavenly.
"I brought these for you. Some, um, digging told me it was going to be your birthday too so I got this." She offered the wrapped package and the cookies to the older girl. Inside was winter themed scarf, silver with snowflakes because she thought they'd match Ashley's hair best.

Grey eyes looked startled again for a moment as Rory offered up the small package and tin that she had been holding in her hands, but then the smile on her lips shifted from something that was polite to one that was softer and a little more real.
"I.. Yes it is" she said as she took them from the turquoise-haired woman and carefully set them on the small breakfast counter before stepping over to shut the apartment door "Thank you."
She didn't keep much in the way of tea, but fished out a couple of the Taylor's tea bags marked English Breakfast and took down a couple of cupcake-patterned mugs from the cupboard before busying herself with adding water to the kettle and putting it on and then after thinking about it slipped out the box with the chocolates that she'd bought on a whim.
"I didn't buy any presents," she admitted as she gave into the urge to open the wrapped present "But I bought..."
Her voice trailed off as she caught sight of the silver scarf inside and took in the snowflake patterns on it "Oh this is lovely."
And she meant it, because the winter-themed scarf was really pretty and something that she could definitely see herself wearing.

Ashley's smile was a small, nearly unnoticable thing, but when Rory saw the shift she felt elated. Truthfully, she had been nervous about offering the gift to the older girl whom she only sort of knew but desperately wanted to get to know but seeing that she liked it, that it might even be her style...it helped her relax and she grinned brightly in response.
"I did cookies and stuff for everyone for Christmas but..." she shifted to her other foot, looking and sounding sheepish, "I wanted to get you something for your birthday." She had spent at least a few hours combing through things until she found something she thought was suitable.
"I also just...I wanted to thank you for making time to see me? I know everything's a little hectic but it's nice to know that we're," she paused, swallowing before she made herself continue, "friends."

Ashley carefully set the scarf down and attended to the kettle that had just made the 'click' sound that marked that the water had finished boiling.
"I'm not really used to getting an actual birthday present for my birthday" she admitted as she added hot water to both cups and fished out the sugar bowl before adding milk to the milk jug and setting everything - including the chocolate box and a small bowl to put the used tea bags - onto a tray.
"My family usually tend to just opt get me a combined present because of the date" and Ashley hated it, because even though her birthday fell on Christmas Day it was still her birthday.
She waited until she had set the tray down on the side of the coffee table that didn't have the photo and the take out menus before offering one of the cups to Rory "I wasn't sure how you take your tea" she admitted, "But I have extra hot water in the kettle if it's too strong."
"And there's no need for thanks" she continued as she started to walk over to where she had set the cards down only to remember that she had forgotten the tea spoons.
It took only a moment to rectify and she stopped to collect the card before walking over with the tea spoons and card with Rory's name neatly printed on it both.
"Actually I got you a christmas card, which is about as 'christmassy' as I get" she admitted as she held out the enveloped card to Rory "But I didn't have an address to mail it to so I'm really glad that you asked to stop by."

Rory listened intently, her smile faltering at the girl's admission. She never got much for her birthday, just a cupcake and enough money to buy flowers to visit mom, but she still got something separate for the day. Which meant she could only imagine how unfair having a birthday on a day like Christmas could be.
"That's not fair, they get stuff for their birthdays and Christmas." She wrinkled her nose, trying not to think about how bitter that might make her. "Well, I made cookies for everyone for Christmas, but I didn't want to miss your birthday either."
Baked goods were the easiest present when on a budget.
"Oh!" She exclaimed, taking the envelope gratefully. "Thank you! It's-- the fact that you did a card for me at all is great. Seriously."

No it wasn't fair and whilst it was something that over the years Ashley had become used to, it wasn't something that she had ever been happy about–
But it also wasn't something that she would ever admit to, at least not aloud, because there was no way to do that without coming across as a complainer - and Ashley wasn't that.
Instead she was contemplating fiddling with the tea bag in the cup that she had designated as hers for a few moments, but then Rory reached out to take the envelope with the Christmas card that she had bought and the moment - and the awkwardness that had started to creep in - was broken.
"No I wanted to," she admitted as she reached down for the chocolate box and held it out in offering and hesitated before adding "And I do appreciate the two presents, thank you."Nuxaz apologies that this took me forever and a day Nux

Rory wondered if this was what having friends, human friends, was like and she hoped it was because she really, really wanted to consider Ashley her friend. "Still means a lot," the girl insisted, her smile a little hesitant but still very genuine.
She felt warmed by this interaction just like her fingers were being warmed by the heat of the tea.
"Yeah! Of course, um, I thought it was a good idea since we're..." she hesitated, but went for it anyway, "friends and what not." If she put it out there then it would become the truth.
She hoped.
"Thank you for the tea."litian you're all good, maybe we can fade?

Whilst the thought was unvoiced on Ashley's part, 'the means a lot' comment worked both ways, she had as much as said it earlier though - if not in those exact words.
She nodded at the 'friends' comment, the small soft smile from earlier touching her lips - because Ashley liked to think that Rory was a friend too - and not just because the two of them had once had a general in common–
And whilst it was perhaps on the tentative side, it was one that she was willing to put the effort into trying to grow - because she liked Rory.
"You're welcome - and I'd be happy to make this a more regular thing" she said, adding to clarify "Having tea that is - at least if that's something you'd like."
She'd leave the ball in Rory's court on that one, something to be considered maybe but the offer one that she'd keep open.
For now however there was tea, chocolate and companionship.
