Her brows came together as she seemed to be thinking about something. Rajani wasn't so sure she could trust her eyes at the moment but she was almost positive that she had seen Elsif lurking around in the market. She traveled around with her hammer just about all the time from now on so there wasn't too big a chance that he would be able to do what he'd done last time but it worried her a little that he would be staying so close.

The feeling of having someone watch her was enough to make her skin crawl. It was like she was going back to how she had been before. Jumpy. On edge. Anxious. Whatever one labeled it as she definitely felt it. When a tingling hit the back of her neck she turned her head to look around, her eyes searching everywhere for the enemy. (Yes, she considered Elsif the enemy.) In an unconscious motion she licked her bottom lip and then bit down on it as her eyes narrowed.

So far she didn't see him but then again she couldn't be too careful. "Even he wouldn't be stupid enough to lurk around now.... would he?" Rajani said to herself quietly. With the threat of the Dretch and all she would think that he would go home or at least not look so suspicious. After taking a deep breath she shrugged her shoulders and moved so that she could catch up to where her dad had gotten to. Even if she was more comfortable with people she didn't completely trust the opposite sex; a select few not included. Once she was caught up she stepped as close to Chal as she could without tripping him, something she used to do when she was younger. It was clear there was something wrong since it was like she was taking steps backward as far as her behavior.

Chal felt as though he'd been starring at the same poster pinned to the board before him for an eternity and yet the words still didn't seem to make sense to him. Not because they were in a different language or anything but because he just seemed to be failing at concentrating today. He'd perhaps spent a bit too much time last night debating over family orientated things. To the point where he'd risked not getting done everything that he wanted to get done. It was one of those lines of thought that should really be shelved for another day, if only so that he could think clearly.

Turning away from the bounty board for a moment his eyes sought out and found Rajani, motioning for her to join him, "Forgive me, it's taking a bit longer then usual for me to pick a job." He admitted, turning back once more, head cocked to one side, once again scanning the various notes. A moment later though he found himself looking at Rajani once again, taking in the manner in which the girl seemed to be right under his feet. He starred a moment then asked, "Is someone bothering you, Raj?" As he asked the question he seemed to be scanning the area around them, one hand lifting to rest against the heavy shield that he carried on his back.

Her dad apologizing for taking so long seemed to pass right through one ear and out the other but when he asked if there was someone that was bothering her she blinked and leaned her head back to look at him. At first she wanted to shake her head and deal with it on her own, but then she stopped herself and instead gained a worried expression. "I... I don't know. I thought I saw.." She trailed off as she turned her head to once again look at the many faces in the market. Maybe being so paranoid about the Dretch had her imagining things?

When she looked back at Chal she took a small breath. "I'm worried that Elsif might be lurking around.." Sure, Rajani had her hammer now and was more than willing to swing it at the enemy's head (or knees) but it didn't do much for the uneasy feeling.

After she noticed how close she was standing to him she took a very tiny step back to give him a little more space. "I'm sorry dad. I just feel safer when I'm near you, Aysun or Lixie." A hard thing to admit, and she certainly wouldn't have said such if it were Aysun or Lixes that she was with, but Rajani knew that her father would understand.

There was a long moment where Chalcedony went quiet, glancing around the area, before he looked back to Rajani once more, "If he is out there and comes close point him out to me, I will deal with him." He paused, blinked a couple times, then said, "Ahhh... I don't mean that in a violent manner or anything, I will likely just see him to the town guards so they can deal with him." Even if the girl wasn't a fan of the man he was her brother and as such Chal felt it wasn't right that he put the man under threat of physical violence. He was too old to act in such a rash manner after all.

"We should consider having Aysun get you a guardian beast. Something all claws and teeth that will fend off those that might hassle you." As much as he wasn't a fan of Oba due to things that happened in the past he felt that he could at least accept one of their beasts if it meant keeping his adopted daughter safe from those that might want to threaten her. The one who might be lurking could very well be plotting to try to grab her again, something he wouldn't suceed at if he got bitten by her guardian beast.

Giving her a smile he asked, "Should I send a courier with a note to find your brother? Last I knew he was in Tale, likely the Yera area so he's not far."

Her head bobbed as she nodded to him, though she wasn't so sure she wanted to actively look for the man she hated. Then as Chal seemed to amend his words to state that he would escort Elsif to the guards she frowned. Honestly she would have preferred if her dad would have offered to bash the guy's head in but she knew Chalcedony wasn't one for senseless violence. He was even against her having a sharp object still. (Hence her hammer.) Then again it didn't help she tended to use the pointy thing a bit more than she did the hammer.

The mention of having Aysun get her a beast that was all fangs and claws was appealing. And since she was not one to miss the chance she chimed in, "You could convince him to lend me Maw." Giving her dad an innocent expression she looked up at him and did her best to bat her lashes at him with a puppy like look. Rajani knew it would never happen. Even if Chal did demand such a thing of her brother and Aysun agreed, Maw wouldn't go too far from him. Which was part of the beasts appeal. In her eyes Maw was still her favorite animal; ever.

The idea of having her dad write to Aysun made her want to say no but at the same time she liked the idea. Of course she wasn't sure if Chal had told her brother about what had happened either so... Keeping quiet for a moment she chewed on the inside of her cheek. "I don't want to bother him but.. it would be nice to have him nearby." That way her dad could go out on his jobs without having to worry about her being home by herself. Or taking her with him. Rajani was old enough sure, but her discomfort with certain things did hinder quite a bit. "Do you think he'd be mad if I asked him to come stay for a bit?" Really it was that or she somehow convinced Chal to send for Lixie. Then there was the allowing of Lixes to stay with her.

"I don't think even Seren herself could talk him into giving up his beast but perhaps he knows where you could get one of your own?" He wasn't sure what he thought about having one of those beasts in his place or how they would do living in Sol but he wanted to find her something, "Or maybe one of those large birds like the one he has?" Something big and intimidating would be good if you asked Chalcedony. He just wanted Rajani to remain safe so he supposed he could open his home to such a beast. They had a radaku pup running around but that was far from as intimidating as one might need to ward off a brother that was willing to go as kidnapping.

Giving a shake of his head Chal said, "I doubt he'd see it as a bother." Well, unless she tried to steal Maw... no, even then she didn't seem to bother Aysun. Likely because the Oban beast seemed to be so loyal. Giving a smile he told her, "I will see about sending him a letter through a courier soon, once I get a job picked out."

Turning to the board again, "Will you be coming with me to help? It's a way to avoid 'that one' if he is lurking." He didn't like the idea of leaving her alone for many reasons but Elsif seemed to just add more reason to the pile he thought to himself.

"I know." Rajani looked down at the ground as she feigned disappointment. Even if she couldn't have Maw to herself she was glad to at least be able to dote on him when he was around.

She nodded her head when Chal mentioned sending for Aysun after he picked a job. While she might want to have her brother nearby now she wasn't about to rush her dad when it came to jobs. Besides, with him around she didn't really feel all that vulnerable. Must be something about the man's intimidating size. Of course to her he was as cuddly as the radaku pup they had since she knew he wouldn't hurt her. As Chalcedony asked if she would be going with she seemed to show more interest in the jobs. "What were you thinking of doing?"

With her attention no longer on the crowd she missed Elsif as he seemed to move into a better position to see his sister. He kept his hood up and did his best to pretend that he was interested in some of the vendors but his true attention was on Rajani and the large man she seemed to be with. In his mind he was still trying to rescue her and bring her back to their parents. Elsif seemed to be focused on getting closer so that he could have a clear shot at his little sister.

Chalcedony seemed to go for a moment stock still as he starred at the board before he gave the crowd a once over. He had a feeling that they were being watched at the moment. Call it instinct or just years of training himself to keep his guard up against various threats. Whatever it was he knew that something was up at the moment and it was starting to make his back itch a bit.

"I can't say. Something simple if you're going with but will provide enough coin to cover the things we need at home." The bounties he took helped to support the family after all, getting things like food, clothes, and other various things they might want. After a moment he reached out, taking a poster off the board, and said, "This one should suffice." It wouldn't pay as well as if he went after something like a menzuri but he wouldn't let his daughter go anywhere near one of those beasts. They were far too dangerous... though maybe if they went after one of those then Elsif would get bit. A thought that he instantly quashed, not wanting to be that mean.

Looking over at Rajani he said, "We are going to go and collect some nondwa scales. It's a delicate job but they are offering a good amount. Seems she wants the glittering scales to make make up out of it."

When he saw the man become aware Elsif turned his attention to what it was that was in his hand. Last thing he wanted was to go head to head with Chal since it looked like he was more than capable of handling himself. He just couldn't figure out the relationship his little sister had with the man and he had to admit that it worried him. Once the large man looked back at what it was he was doing Elsif brought out the dart gun that he had got just for this purpose. He'd tainted the tips of the darts with Menzuri poison and Chal was his target. Once he got the big man out of the way then he could convince his sister to come with him. Should be easy enough. Within seconds he sent the dart flying right for --

Rajani felt a shiver run down her back and it was enough to make her move closer to her dad again. Now she was almost certain it wasn't just her imagination. She'd taken notice of the way Chal had stilled. Someone was watching. "Ouch.." The girl flinched as she felt something bite into her back. Thinking it was an insect she reached back and swatted it. What fell to the ground was not an insect though. However, her dad had just picked a job off the board and so she looked at it rather than trying to figure out what bit her.

"You're going to get all glittery." She warned. As she spoke she seemed to move her shoulders in a way that would flex her back muscles. The place the "insect" had gotten her was sore and itchy. "How many scales do they need?" Even as she asked she seemed to be showing signs of discomfort as the spot on her back seemed to really start bothering her. "Serin curse the biting bugs. Did it leave a stinger?" Now Rajani turned to try and see the site of the "bite." Her eyes wouldn't see the dart on the ground until after failing to see the sore spot on her back.

-- Elsif could have cursed so loudly that the entire market would have heard him. Why had Rajani moved closer to the man!? Now he was faced with two options. Try to approach and let the man know what poison was on the dart or let the event unfold. Either way he put the primitive weapon away and seemed to have an internal war.

Chalcedony turned to glance over at Rajani as she flinched and murmured a sound of pain, giving her a long look, before he patted her on the head, "You alright, Rajani?" He asked, concern in her voice. It didn't seem like a huge thing since she just brushed away whatever it was that had harmed her. A biting insect, perhaps?

At her comment about how he was going to 'get all glittery' he gave a slow nod of his head, "True, but it's a simple enough job, lacks danger, and will allow you to come along. Glitter or not I feel it might be the best one that we can both do together." He said with a smile, then looked back to the paper, "Let's see... it doesn't really say anything specific. It sounds like we will be paid for whatever we bring in to her. The more the better I'm guessing." Which would make the endeavor that much more worth their while.

"Hm? Let me check." He said, moving to look on her back, then around, wondering what sort of creature he'd gotten stung by. There were bees, wasps, and various other flying things that might make a go at a person but the entry wound didn't seem quite right. There was just something a little off about it. He glanced around once more, hoping to spot the creature that had bitten or stung her... only to spot something else, an odd dart sitting there on the ground, likely where it had landed after being shot. Rage like nothing else filled Chalcedony though he didn't react outwardly, instead forcing himself to take a breath, steadying his nerves. No reason to get Rajani worked up or let the attacker know that he knew.

Instead he said, "Come on, we need to pick up a couple things before we head out." He said that, but started to lead the way to where a healer lived in Sol. Who knew what she might have been dosed with, likely some sort of sedative, and he meant to get her looked at. Once she was in the care of the healer he'd have to go and deal with Elsif, even if that meant throwing him off the highest tree in Jauhar.

An odd chuckle escaped her as she reacted to the idea of her dad covered in glitter. To her it sounded normal. When Chal offered to look at her back to see if there was a stinger she turned to let him. Rajani had seen the dart but figured it had been there the whole time. She was standing next to her dad, no one would mess with her. But he didn't answer her about the possibility of a stinger.

Instead he mentioned getting things before they set out. "Hm. Ok, I'll keep an eye out for a beast seller." Since he mentioned getting her a beast she now had it in her mind that she should be on the look out for one that she liked. Then maybe when her brother arrived she could point it out to him and he could tell her if it was a good one to have.

Rajani followed after him but found herself blinking several times as though something her bothering her vision. With one hand she reached up and wiped at her eyes. Was something wrong? Was she stung by something poisonous? "Dad...?" Her voice was sounding more and more concerned. "Was there a stinger still in there?" Was he worried about that? Did it look bad? Rajani touched the sore spot again hoping she could feel what it was that was there. Her worry was making it worse though.

Elsif seemed to be thankful that the large man didn't understand what had happened. It would make things a little easier. When is little sister started to show signs then he could just swoop in and hopefully "save the day." Send the big man to get something and when he was gone he could take Rajani home. At least, that was the plan right now.

"Hmm... Oh, yeah. If you see someone that is selling janarim whelps I suppose we can should pick you up one." He said with a nod of his head, trying to focus on staying neutral with his expression without really ignoring Rajani in anyway. He was worried about her after all, wanted to just pick her up and carry her, but he knew that it would be tipping his hand. Instead he gave her a smile and said, "It's going to be alright, I will make sure of it."

Reaching out, giving her a pat on the shoulder, "Come on, we are almost to where we're going. Once we are there we will have it looked at, just to make sure of what the 'sting' might be." If it was anything serious he wasn't sure what he'd do. He was just hoping against hope that it turned out to be a means in which to knock her out, nothing more. He kept telling himself over and over again that it was all that it was, wanting to reassure himself just as much as he reassured her.

Lifting a hand he motioned to an older Shifter, at least older then Chal himself, sitting out in front of a building using an older radaku as a footrest, "We will talk with her then, if all is well, we will head out. If not we will deal with." Well, he'd deal with it and she'd rest.

"It's going to be alright, I will make sure of it."

That sentence wasn't reassuring at all. Rajani truly became worried then. Even more so when he said that they would have her sting looked at when they got to where they were going. So they weren't after supplies. Chal had been concerned enough upon first seeing it to go directly to what.. a healer?

Sweat was starting to show on her forehead and she started to pant a little. Was it her or had it gotten colder? The air had a chill to it and she shivered. "I don't like this.." As she looked up at her dad she had a moment where she froze in fear because who she saw in front of her was not Chal. It was someone else and that someone had enough power over her mind still to make her bring her hands up to her ears and close her eyes. "No. It's not real. It's not real." Rajani ended up squeezing her eyes shut so tightly that she was causing them to water. "Dad!?" Maybe if she heard his voice again she could ground herself. If not then she was going to drop to the ground and curl into a ball.

Chalcedony looked over at Rajani before he reached out to her, wrapping one arm around her, before he murmured, "Hold onto my arm. We are almost to the healer and don't want that fool to know how much whatever he gave you effecting you." He felt another shiver go through him, more anger rising... but he did his best to breath in slow, easy breaths. He didn't want to let his anger get the best of him before she was handed over to someone that was able to help her out.

Moving slowly forward he closed the ground between them and the healer. As they got closer the woman got to her feet, stretching out all over like a lazy perzi, before she took a couple steps closer to them, "A patient I see? Do you want to come inside? I can take a look at you in there."

Chal gave a nod of his head, glancing around for a moment, before he started to lead Rajani again, "Don't worry, she's going to fix you up." He was keeping his his tone even, not wanting to show any of what he was feeling at the moment.

The contact made her flinch until she heard the voice behind it. That alone was enough to ground her and when she opened her eyes everything seemed normal again. Rajani took a deep breath and nodded her head as she was led toward the woman. Not that she really wanted to be close to anyone at all at the moment. Raj would have preferred to just go back to her room to hide under the bed.

"You knew it wasn't a bite?" For a split second she was angry that he hadn't told her the truth but then she figured he likely didn't want to upset her. So Rajani couldn't really be mad. Knowing her she'd have flipped out and made a scene. Or run off.

When the lady got up and stretched Raj groaned. "I'd rather not." However, she knew arguing about it would be pointless. "If she does anything weird I'll hit her with my hammer.." Her warning was murmured to Chal.

Elsif saw his little sister grab her head and he instantly grew worried that the poison was too much for her to handle. He had never considered what it was that she would hallucinate about. Did he unknowingly make her relive something? He drew closer and once he saw that the large man was taking her to a healer he cursed. So his plan wouldn't work. So he reached up and took his hood off. "Jani." He called out to her hoping that she would respond and not go any farther with the man.
