The weather had been fluctuating a bit during the first week of December, and it had been a bit unpredictable. Warm some days, cold others. But either way Alphubel had spent a lot of it outside, whether it was patrolling or just looking through his telescope at the clear skies, which were easier to see since it became dark much earlier. It was so easy to lose track of time at this point when one still wasn't used to it, which had led him here, to being out at about 8PM, intending to have only gone out for an hour but instead patrolled most of the area around his brother's apartment and one of the parks nearby. It was just so easy to do when one had such a uniform like his!
The opposite would be true in summer of course.
And so, he was just about to head back and get something to eat for dinner, when he felt a dim aura. One that certainly was not friendly. He frowned, before moving towards it at a fast jog, hoping that he wouldn't be too late to stop the agent, if they were currently draining someone. It had happened before, resulting in the victim getting their starseed pulled, and of course the agent blaming it on him, because who wants to take responsibility for their own actions?! He couldn't stand agents anymore. He still did not want to kill or hurt them badly, but if he felt one, he wouldn't stand idly by and let them do whatever they wanted.
He reached where he thought the agent was, and started to look around, keeping a tight grip on his lantern, in case the enemy jumped out of somewhere that he couldn't see.

Larimar's uniform was hardly the warmest thing possible to wear in winter weather, with scattered spots of their legs open to the cold, their fingers unprotected; still, it was hardly the worst option for the season, and they had no reason to complain about it. Why complain about something that wasn't offending when they had other things to complain about? Things like the aura flickering at their senses, faux-sweet, freezerburn cold; how rude of someone to annoy them when they were busy.
Well. It depended on how you defined busy. Larimar thought 'draining someone to unconsciousness' was attention-requiring enough for their tastes, even as the teenager slumped further and further down the bench, eyelids flickering in a futile attempt at retaining consciousness. She was a classmate, and they didn't like her, and it didn't need further explanation. Except maybe the idiot approaching them would want one.
"She's not dead," they commented idly, "but honestly, if you jump me, I might get startled and pull her starseed, so why don't you come out and we can discuss this like adults."
Alphubel felt himself frown. He hated Negaverse agents, or at least the ones that were so willing to kill other people. He had already gone through this scenario, he doubted it would end differently than the last time, but he had to try. "I won't jump you." Alphubel wasn't one to do that anyway. He should probably try it more often, but in this case he certainly wouldn't.
He walked a bit more, and found a lieutenant in the middle of draining someone. Alphubel sometimes hated the fact that he had to stop people who were just draining. But it was taking a person's life force away, rather than just their actual energy. If it was the latter he probably wouldn't confront as many agents, but that wasn't the case and this was war where people died. Alphubel had a duty to try and stop that. And if agents wanted to kill people in cold blood just because they could in front of him, well, it was the unfortunate price for war as the White Moon continued to try and stop this from happening in the future, which would be a lot worse.
He hooked his lantern onto the side of his robe again. If he needed he would grab it, but he didn't want to make the agent think he was ready to attack him. "If you're just draining her then fine, but I do have a duty if you try to do anything more to anyone else." The agent was too close to the girl to try and save her before her starseed was pulled out.

"Too close," Larimar said, equally as ambivalent with their tone as they had been before; it was a simple one-two of movements, really. One moment the girl was alive, and the next Larimar held her starseed in their hand, tucking it into their sash - she was still breathing, but it was only a matter of time. "Do anything more to anyone else? What an incredibly stupid plan. You would have just let me walk away even though I've killed people before?" They rolled their eyes, tsking. "Truly brilliant."
Alphubel glared at the other. Yet another crazy and lying agent, why am I not surprised? He thought as he grabbed his lantern. That was part of the problem of having some morals, one of them being not to kill people. So when he met up with a serial killer such as this, it was really hard not to do the same. But they encouraged conversion over killing, so what was he supposed to do? Someday, he knew he would have to kill someone, if only for self-defense, but at that point it might be worth it.
He held out his lantern, letting his magic course through it. Hopefully it would work, or at least the agent wouldn't teleport away. If there was one thing that was different this time compared to the last that he saw an agent kill, it was that he had actual magic on his side.
He said nothing as he stepped forward, not even looking at the girl anymore. They would find her body in the morning, there was nothing that could be done. He got as close as he could to the other though, and while still channeling his magic, as well as he could, he sent out his fist, towards the other's face. He really hoped the agent would flee. From his experience, lieutenants couldn't teleport, and he hoped to be able to chase one this time.
Channels light from the lantern that makes enemies confused on who they should attack/cannot tell who their allies or enemies (so it depends on the situation, but it can be both) are for up to 35 seconds by the light emanating from it. The effect of the magic goes to a maximum of 8 feet around the user.

We can end it in a couple more posts if you want!

The expression on Larimar's face changed, when Alphubel started channeling; they blinked a couple of times, smile dropping into nothing, and looked at him - really looked at him - for a little too long. "What did you -" They didn't expect his fist, that was clear; it was only luck they hadn't bit their tongue. As it was Larimar stumbled, swayed, and clapped a hand to the recently-punched part of their face; their expression conveyed 'outraged surprise' particularly well, with a secondary dose of 'such INSOLENCE'.
But they had better things to do than listen to their emotional drive. Their boots tracked against the snow as they spun around, taking the turn on the heel, and started to run away.
It had felt way too good when Alphubel had been able to land his fist squarely into the other's face. It felt good when the other looked surprised and offended that he had done such a thing. It felt even better when the agent ran.
It felt amazing. For the first time since he had been awakened, Alphubel felt like he had actually accomplished something that he was meant to do. It unfortunately came at the price of seeing yet another civilian be killed in front of him, but if that's what had helped him, then at least something came out of it rather than just a senseless death. He felt like adrenaline was now rushing through him, even though the battle was over. He wouldn't run after the other, but it made him feel great because he knew it was the first time that an agent had run from him because he wasn't willing to back down or they were done with their deed and just left him there.
He humphed, the good feeling inside of him falling away just a bit when he looked at the body once again, but that was how life was in the war. And he would just have to do better at all of it. He needed to go, power down, and make an anonymous call to the police...
