Nereid was on the hunt for the night, this time to find more of the order senshi. Something stuck with her from the fight with Carn and that was that she had been abandoned to figure out the video game by herself. She didn't have teammates or people to fight along with and the only other order senshi she had met was Sedna.
Sedna had been wonderful but she had totally forgotten to get the girl's ID picture clicked with her phone so she could have a new teammate!
NOT TONIGHT THOUGH.
SHE WAS GOING TO GET SOMEONE TO JOIN HER PARTY!!!

Hermes knew approximately three people, one of which he wished he didn't actually know, and two of which weren't actually people he knew and more just people he was acquainted with once or twice. It was probably a little sad, in truth, but he'd never really considered things from a negative aspect before; likely they weren't able to keep up with him, anyway.
And he didn't have time for them anyway, not with his civilian life being such a prominent factor in everything. The King's Crown and the Destiny City Ballet Company both kept him particularly busy when it came to his orchestral work, and he was quite satisfied with that - and more than a little smug about that his first chair position in the Crown. He didn't need more people.
He was thinking this as he rounded a corner, went down a side street, and smacked smack dab into someone, Hermes so preoccupied with his thoughts that he hadn't even felt the power signature of someone else near to him. He took a step back, brows coming together.
"Apologies," he said stiffly. It sounded like a word he didn't use very often.

The accidental run into her was her perfect moment! This was her chance! This was her time! The signature was very much order and she could tell as she got a glance at his outfit, that he was a senshi like herself!!
"YOU'RE A SENSHI!" She said stupidly at first, "I mean that's really awesome, I've met someone the same class as me! And the same level!" She grinned up at him, "Hi! Hi nice to meet you. Are you part of a team?"
Important questions right off the bat.

She was, at least, the right side of things. Not that Hermes ever really dealt with the wrong side of things - he was too busy for that as well - but he knew the right power signatures now when he felt them. That Infernal Creature known as Bob had told him all sorts of things about his past life and history as Hermes, so at the very least, he knew that as well.
"Yes, I am a senshi," said Hermes, and then frowned - or rather, frowned more deeply than he was already frowning.
"A team? I don't need a team. I'm perfectly capable of doing things on my own, as a matter of fact," he said, and made to push past her.

"Whoa there!" Ciaran stopped him with her hand, placing the palm flat on his chest and pushing.
"You are getting way ahead of the game there! You can't pass this section unless you help me out!" She smiled.
"You ready?" She made a small sound. "I am...TA DA, Nereid! Senshi of waterfalls! I would like to recruit you to be part of my party!"

He came to an unintended stop as she pushed him back, Hermes' annoyance growing as he let out a frustrated sigh. A booted foot slid back so that he was standing in front of the senshi again, pale blond hair swept back from his forehead, blue eyes scanning the woman's face. She was, absurdly, it seemed, entirely serious.
That was almost worse.
"What does that even mean?" Hermes asked with a scowl. "A team? That's ridiculous. I was a god in a former life, I don't need a team, as I've said. Why on earth would you think to recruit me for this?"

Nereid stared at him.
"A team. A party. Work together you know?" Wow he must be a single player type! that was okay! She'd work her charm regardless.
"A god huh?" She blinked, "Well thats pretty cool but are you a god now?" She waited.

There was a long, awkward pause.
".........no," Hermes said grudgingly, because there was no possible way he could say that he was a god now when he had little to no powers unless he was in this form at all, and when he couldn't control his auditions for orchestral chairs. "I am not."
He didn't like admitting it. Hermes glowered at the senshi, icy blue eyes narrowed.
"I am Hermes. Why do you want to start a team?"

Nereid smiled the whole awkward pause.
"There you go then." She crossed her arms, waterfall sleeves dropping down in front of her. "You need teammates to help you get the exp, keep you safe and build you up, you know? If not teammates, at least FRIENDS." She smiled again.
"Nice to meet you Hermes! Because the right thing to do when facing enemies is to have back up." She waited, "You ever come across a really tough enemy and like...you try to do it Solo but get the tar beat out of you? Its game over and you have to reset from your save point and what happens if you didn't save the game for awhile?" her face showed a mock horror.
"But if you have teammates and a party, then you have people to rely on!"

What the hell was 'XP?'
Hermes was giving Nereid a suspicious look that clearly said he wasn't believing a word of what she said. "I don't have time for friends," he informed her, quite seriously. "I have my work and I have my patrolling, and I have to cater to a mongrel beast in my spare time, but I don't really have friends."
He hadn't meant to actually say this last part, Hermes' back stiffening with irritation at himself and perhaps the faintest of self conscious flushes. "Do you mean people? I suppose everyone's had issues with people they run into, and hills they want to climb and can't, but I don't see how having teammates helps."
Especially since he was quite aware no one could stand him most of the time. Hermes folded his arms across his chest.
"Why me, specifically?"

"You don't have time for friends?" Her gaze tilted and that was sad! He needed friends IRL and Game life! It would be silly not to have friends!! "Well, I have time for friends and since we met, we're gonna be friends." she took her senshi phone out and snapped his picture.
"Sailor Hermes!" She showed him now that he was saved in her contacts. No escape. "There. now I've got you saved and stuff."
She blinked, "I mean enemies. Like the people we battle and stuff. if you get tired on a hill though, wouldn't it be nice to have someone there to help you get over it? Like pull you along, encourage you to do better, stuff like that?" She took a deep breath.
"Why not?" she offered in return. No one could argue with that kind of logic! But he was welcome to try!

"I have a very busy life," Hermes snapped, which was perfectly true, but somehow felt humiliating to say aloud to a complete stranger. He recoiled back as she snapped his picture, confused as to what she was even doing, and it took him a moment to register that it was a phone she had pulled out.
"Not everyone has time for - for whatever it is that you're trying to sell," said Hermes, in a more level tone of voice, though it was difficult to keep it level. "No one wants anything for nothing, and I'm sure that if something or someone was being difficult, the logical thing is to leave them behind."
He didn't understand why she kept pushing it. Hermes' scowl deepened.
"I don't need anyone to encourage me to do better, I'm perfectly capable of handling that myself and doing better on my own. And as for why not, it seems ludicrous to even try and force myself into some...loose description of what a 'friend' is."

She wasn't going to give up though!
"Not selling, recruiting." she held up a finger and waggled it. "What else are you gonna do during the night then? I mean patrolling is boring, its running around the area with no quest direction to go or anything!" She waited.
"Do you like being alone?"

He shot her a suspicious look that clearly said these two things were the same thing. Not that he could have disagreed with Nereid's assertion that patrolling was tedious and dull and boring, because it was tedious and dull and boring. Hermes had much better things to do than walk around hoping something would happen.
His face colored.
"I don't - that's not any of your business," he ground out between gritted teeth. "Whether or not I prefer my solitude - which, by the way, I do - is not the concern of a random senshi. I don't see why my preferences are being taken into account now."
He did not want to admit, under any circumstances, that she was somehow hitting on the insecurities Hermes had long since buried. He could feel the heat in his cheeks rising with every word, and he fought against it, trying to bury it back down again.
"You can leave now, thank you."

"Well I am making it my business!" She didn't really care if he got upset! She was still talking to him. "They aren't, it was more of me getting an idea of what kind of party member you are!"
She stopped, "Why? Am I making you upset?" She tilted her head, "If you like your solitude, why are you upset about me questioning it? usually people who don't really like to be alone, wouldn't get so upset."
she paused, "You're pretty cute! Do you have a girlfriend? Boyfriend?" She waited, "Are you fighting the creatures in the night for them? yourself? Other people?"
