Name: N'ceph
Age: 36
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Opportunistic
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Miner
Physical Description: N'ceph is a man who stands a solid 6'3". He's broad shouldered, broad chested, and has the physique of someone who knows how to work hard and keep himself in shape. His skin is fair, from his Northern Continent upbringing, though he tans well and isn't quite as prone to burning as others with paler complexions. His hair is a dark brown that he keeps cut short, and his eyes a mix of dark blue-violet. He's got a square face, a thick neck, and is built more like a brick; he's the sort of man who knows how to take a hit and can give as good as he gets. Due to his turn as a Miner, N'ceph has learned that keeping himself in shape benefited him in more ways than one...especially once he became a bronze rider.
He sports a left arm covered in tattoos, and another with a few more. His ears are pierced in a few places, and if one didn't know him any better, might find him an intimidating force.
Personality: Ah, but appearances can be deceiving. For all that he looks large and intimidating, N'ceph has a very relaxed attitude. He's the sort of man who is extremely laid back outside of his duty as a rider. He's the sort who doesn't mind going with the flow, and has no trouble changing plans unexpectedly. He likes to listen, and keep his thoughts to himself, which can give the appearance of being aloof. But N'ceph can be sociable and friendly--he just tends to need a little time to warm up to the group. Where some riders have a natural suave and charm, for this rider, it takes a little bit more work to get it out of him. He's not socially awkward, he just doesn't usually put himself forward, or keeps himself back if someone else is clearly chomping at the bit to lead. He enjoys watching, studying those around him, and learning their strengths and weaknesses.
It's only when things start to fall apart, go wrong, or things get bad, that N'ceph will step up to the plate. He's not afraid of taking command of a situation when he must, or if he feels he can get it under control better than those in charge. Things would happen quick in the mines, and he learned early one that sometimes a firm hand is all that's needed. This also happened during his time at High Reaches Weyr; he had no trouble stepping up to the plate as a weyrling, and even went against some of his Wingseconds as he aged. Not out of a desire to be insubordinate, but out of a demand to call out what he thought was foolishness. While this didn't endear him to certain parties at the Weyr, as a bronzerider, his ideas and suggestions were taken a bit more seriously.
Ultimately, while N'ceph has no true desire for power, he does have a desire to keep people alive. Just like he did in the mines of Crom, so he does so at the Weyrs; he wants dragons, riders, and the people they protect to stay alive for as long as possible with the least amount of injuries. Riventh and he are known to be hard-workers who have no trouble volunteering; but they also know when to dig-in their heels and fight the system. He doesn't care at all about how that system works--he just cares about results when lives are on the line.
When not worrying about Threadfall or duty, N'ceph enjoys the pleasures of life. Fine food, fine drink, and comforts he never had growing up that he now gets easily as a rider. He's of the mind that there's only one life to live, and that means getting the most out of it while he can. Fine clothing, food, drink--N'ceph spares no expense on himself or those he cares about. Live hard, play hard, such is his motto...
But perhaps his favorite vice is his hunger for physical attention and affection. He's known to be a bit of a lustful creature, and has no problems finding bedmates of any gender. His friends joke that he should have been a courtesan, and there's no doubt that he's spent many a mark on some of their company. He's not a disloyal man--and any relationships he has he throws himself into whole-heartedly--but he's also yet to stumble into a long-term commitment that lasts. He's had on-and-off relationships most of his life, but that doesn't seem to bother him.

Negative Trait List Stubborn, Lusty, Hedonistic
History: Nircephos was born in Crom Hold to a woman who hadn't planned on getting pregnant. His father was a mystery, and a cursed name upon his mothers bitter lips. While she loved her son, she was a distant woman, which meant he was cared for (more or less) by some of the Hold's aunties and uncles. The older he got, the more distant his mother became, especially as she eventually found a man willing to forgive her past indiscretion, and take her on as a wife. While she never entirely abandoned him, he found he could not compete with his younger half-siblings in terms of his mothers time; as for the man in his mother's life, well, he had no problem forgetting of Nircephos' existence.
The young boy bonded more with the crecheworkers, though he always yearned to make his mother proud, or gain his step-father's favor. He was a curious but quiet boy, but had a keen eye when it came to emulating others and keeping himself out of trouble.
At Turn 10, he was dubbed old enough by some of the local miners to start learning a craft. Nircephos didn't get much choice in the matter, but he didn't mind; he was fast growing to be larger than some of the boys older than him, and still had room to grow. It would serve Crom well to put him to use, especially if he was half-way competent. Thankfully, Nircephos didn't mind. His step-father was a miner, and he thought that perhaps, once again, he'd be praised for his hard-work, or find some way into the family acceptance and attention he craved.
Unfortunately, if anything, the man simply seemed more irritated that Nircephos was still there. Thankfully, he didn't often have to work under the Journeyman Miner. As he aged and grew, no matter his accomplishments, he was still a bit of a blacksheep and eyesore. At Turn 15, Nircephos threw himself whole-heartedly into his craft, and simply kept out of his step-father's way.
He walked-the-tables at Turn 19, and was sent down to Nabol Hold to help assist in excavating some mines. As far as Nirceophos was concerned, this was just what he needed; Crom might have given him an education, but the quiet man could hardly stand being a stranger to his half-siblings and strained from his mother. It would do her a service to get out of her sight.
Much to his surprise, he never made it to Nabol. Instead, the dragon sent to pick him up was a blue--and the bluerider Searched him as soon as Nircephos' bags were packed. While he'd never given a thought about riders or dragons, the rider was convincing enough, and though the Hall was dismayed to lose a fine crafter to the Weyr...it was still Nircephos' choice.
He chose to go, and figured if things didn't work out, Nabol was always a place he could find work, and the Hall would be sure to accept his return. The rider even told him he wouldn't have to stay until he aged out; if he ever missed mining, he could go back to his craft any time.
The Weyr was unlike any place Nircephos had ever been. Oh, Candidacy was strict, but there was also so much freedom. There was food and drink he'd only ever imagined; there were people of all walks of life; and there were dragons. It was here that Nircephos found he enjoyed some of the fine things he had missed out on; he made friends, he made lovers, and he ate up any and all attention and praise he was given. Oh, to be so loved...
During his first Hatching, Nircephos found his match in a large bronze named Riventh. Impression was more than he could have asked for and it secured his position as a rider of High Reaches Weyr. He could truly start life anew at the Weyr. He needed no mother, no father, no siblings; he had Riventh, and what more could he ask for?
So the Turns passed. N'ceph enjoyed his life at High Reaches and took advantage of all the perks his title offered. His early Turns had been grey and lackluster, and now, with Riventh, and with freedom, he could do what he pleased, as he pleased. The strictness of the Weyr was familiar to him, and as a rider, he was dutiful. He filled up his free time with Riventh, friendships, and as much pleasure as he could find or dally in... and if that meant leaving a trail of broken hearts, well, not every affair was meant to last, after all.
When Thread returned, N'ceph and Riventh were ready. They proved competent and capable in the upcoming battles, and were ready to help serve wherever High Reaches Weyr was needed. One of the biggest needs was training the other Weyrs. While the once-empty places were suddenly clamoring for riders to help protect Pern once more, they all looked to High Reaches Weyr who had been the only ones ready for Threadfall's return.
Generously, High Reaches Weyr sent some of their riders to other Weyrs to help teach them how to fight Thread and ensure they were well trained. N'ceph and Riventh were tapped to go to Western Weyr, and the pair found they enjoyed the more relaxed Weyr. The riders were hard workers, and they listened to what N'ceph, and others who transferred, were willing to teach. Though N'ceph periodically returned to High Reaches to report to the Flightleaders and Weyrleader, he eventually put in a request for a permanent transfer.
High Reaches Weyr wasn't exactly hurting for riders, and he felt he could do more good long-term for the smaller Weyr than he would by returning to become just another handsome face. While he appreciated High Reaches Weyr and all that it did for him, the island continent felt more like home...
And the nearby Courtesan Hall and Rivercrest Hold didn't dampen his interest, either.
While he's no longer training, he's a dedicated Wingrider to his new home. He's happy to fight in the wings and happier still to enjoy the slower pace life that the Weyr provides.
Other: He probably has a few weyrbrats back in the creche of High Reaches Weyr. As for being an active or interested father figure... He unfortunately is a bit like his own mother; he wouldn't know the first thing about it and assumes the children are better off without him.
DRAGON
Name: Riventh
Age: 16
Color: Bronze
Size: 42'
Physical Description: Riventh is about average for a bronze, but like his rider, is built like a brick. He's well muscled, heavy, and while he's not nearly as graceful or agile in flight as some--he has stamina in droves. He knows how to take a hit, and is known to have an extra-long flame length.
Personality: Riventh is similar to his rider, in that he's relatively relaxed for being a metallic. He isn't the sort to push his weight around unless, like his rider, he feels there's a need. He's not as keen on having left High Reaches Weyr, but a Weyr is a Weyr, even if he sometimes feels like he doesn't quite get his due at Western. He's a bronze and...that doesn't mean quite as much now that they've transferred. But, his breezy nature tends to keep him from worrying about it too long.
Riventh is sociable, flirtatious, and also has no trouble leaving a trail of broken hearts behind him. Not because he doesn't know how to commit, but because he has large wings, and is easily tempted by boys and girls alike. Where dragons get upset, this bronze has a tendency to shrug off the drama.
