Joy heard about the promotion and wanted to surprise Seren with something. But considering the other woman had plans for a house and all the trimmings inside it, and leave wasn't until next month, Joy figured the best thing they could do was to see how Seren would fare in battle.
"I just realized, we never sparred when you were still a trainee!" Joy stated as she finished up her warm up stretches. "But I heard you tore it up on the fields," she grinned in anticipation.

Seren grinned over at Joy, and shrugged. "I mean, I did ok, before. Every intermediate I battled before kicked my a**, though, so ya know. It all depends." She was stretching as well, having jogged over here once Joy had texted her for a 'congratulatory battle', which, as a concept, amused the hell out of Seren. "Let's get this show on the road, sugar, because I'm curious to see how this goes."

Weapon summoned, Joy shook her head, "What, no, you're the newly promoted hunter here. You mos def should get first blood," and with that she gestured for Seren to take a swing at her.

"If you insist, gorgeous." Seren shrugged and moved back a little, summoning the recently grown Diwata to her hands. She lifted the ridiculously large sword, and balanced it with care, then pulled her arms back, then forwards again in a swing for Joy's side. Quote: HP: 50/50 Damage: 4 Charge: 1/3

It was a love tap, that's what it was. What else could you call a strike that didn't outright obliterate you from a weapon of that scale? Joy only hoped Seren wasn't going easy on her because that was no fun.
Even if, y'know, Joy would have gone easy on Seren had she still been a trainee rather than someone of the same rank. It should have irked Joy somewhat that it took the moon how long to get promoted and it just seemed like yesterday that she woke up Seren. It should but it didn't because, well, she'd seen how hardworking the other woman was and damn it, the Sun earned that promotion.
"Not bad," Joy nodded, pushing away the sword with Bert's handle before strike out for Seren's shoulder with the bladed edge of the shovel.

Seren arched a brow, and shrugged at the not bad, knowing it wasn't an amazing hit. It wasn't the worst, but she needed to be doing better... She and Diwata needed to hit, and hit hard. That was the job a Sun did... Go out on the frontlines, and beat the ******** out of things. Or at least, that was her general view of what they were supposed to do. She'd have to see if that changed as she spent more time as a Sun. And then Joy's swing hit, and she made a soft oof, and tried to return the hit, but it was clumsy and not very effective. "S'alright, s'alright, it took me a bit of getting used to when Bert sorta changed." Joy continued to encourage her friend. She hoped that this was just Seren and Diwata becoming accustomed to the new balance of their strengths.
"This is, like, growing pains," she grinned, giving Seren a light tap with the flat of her shovel.

"Yeah, I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually, for sure! It's just gonna take some time. And working on building more upper body strength. Gotta talk to Rhys about maybe some adjustments to my workout, I'm sure he'll have some good suggestions on that." She paused, and gave Joy an amused look, at that. "He mentioned you got him workin' with you, too. Just don't tire my man out too much, ok?" She teases Joy, in a totally friendly way. Seren sighed and nodded, adjusting her grip and trying to get a better swing in. Unfortunately, while it technically was better then the last swing, it wasn't MUCH better. Was this going to be Gabby all over again? Was she going to have to suggest they pick this up again some other time when it was clear the other woman was getting frustrated? Judging by Seren's attitude though, "What can I say? Sometimes you need a third wheel to shake things up."
She meant of course fighting routines and becoming too accustomed to each other's fighting styles. Not in relationships because Joy would tear out her own tongue first before causing her Love Team to split.
The bladed edge barely scraped at Seren.

Seren lifted her brows up, and said "Um, I don't think we need things shaken up... I like the way there are just fine..." She smiled a little, eyes a little distant for a moment, because she was REALLY, truly happy, and just thinking about how lucky she was made her get lost in thought. She refocused, then, and added "I just want him in good shape at night." in a teasing tone. "Oh ho hoooo~" Joy whistled both at the strength of Seren's blow and her "request." She was, maybe, just a tiny bit jealous but for the most part, she was incredibly happy for her dear friend.
"Sun for sure, you just needed to get into the swing of things." she tried to put some distance between them, testing out the range of Seren's acuity with Diwata.

Seren just grinned at the laugh, and shrugged, unable to help how happy she always looked when the subject of Rhys came up. She was obviously, deeply in love with the man and it showed. She watched Joy move back, and pulled the sword back hard, then swung, rather like a baseball player would swing when at bat. Joy wished she remembered how far she was from Seren before she was sailing from the blow. It would have been useful information for the Sun, to know the right distance she would have to be from her opponent to hit the veritable sweet spot.
She landed against the ground, but moved with the momentum, rolling so she could get herself back on her feet. "Should all I talk about is Rhys during fights to get you to always hit that hard?" Joy teased, dashing forward to get in close and swipe at the taller woman's legs.

Seren couldn't help but laugh at Joy's words, once she was sure her friend was ok, and then Joy's next hit struck her and knocked her off her feet, quite effectively. She went sideways, hitting hard, and rolled. She wheezed, but was grateful to find she had NOT had the wind knocked out of her. Unfortunately she was unable to attack, being too busy catching her breath and getting back to her feet. Quote: HP: 29/50 Damage: 0 Charge: 3/3

Joy looked at Seren with concern, "Shake it off, Seren, you can do it!" the moon hunter declared, before the older woman dug the shovel beneath Seren and attempted to lift up the taller sun hunter.
