I've made a few profiles for people, mostly friends, but the other day when someone asked me if I could make them a profile, I agreed to doing it--for no charge.
I spent about an hour on it, no more...and it wasn't the best I've done, it had no repositioning except for the quote bubble, and the background didn't quite go with the headers, but they were overjoyed when they recieved it. x3
But, overall, which is most importiant to you in a profile, and which is more importiant to the majority of Gaia--the quality, the time and effort put into it, or the cost? O: heart

Well... Sometimes I tend to think that quality and time spent go hand-in-hand, but that's not always true. I spend upwards of four hours on most of my profiles, so I strive for quality and the time spent to make that quality happen. I charge at least 4k, but I've gotten more than 35k before, too. If someone can pay, they'll pay if they want quality; if someone can't, then, well... They can't. sweatdrop
No? You will. ::giggles evilly:: *`"<( ' ' <)..:: ::..(> ' ' )>"`*

I always worry about quality, always, even if the profile I'm working on is free. A good profile is one that looks good, works well in all (or most) browsers, and makes people happy. If I end up spending a lot of time on it, then that's okay, but putting in the hours doesn't automatically make a profile good. As for cost...well, I've seen people charging 10k for work that's not even worth 2k, work I personally would be ashamed of having someone use on a profile, much less charging for.

i think it is the quality you can't tell by the looks of the profile how much it cost time and effort goes hand in hand with the quality. the more time you spend on it, the better the profile looks... usually

Quality, of course, is my big thing when it comes to profiles in general.
Now, if it should come down to how I would price any handmade profiles I wold make, all three come into the equation. Can't be helped. I'm a busy college kid, so my time is very important. And sorry, but I'm only human and as such, the more time I've spent on a profile, the better the quality will be. I wish my quality would be pretty even across the board even if I don't spent much time on it, but it's not gonna happen.

A combination of both.
It could be the best profile in the world, but if it costs too much, it just won't be worth it for me. On the other side of that, it could cost a single gold, but if the quality is crappy, I won't bother.
The price should match the quality.

I'm a stickler for quality. If you pay for it or get it free it should still be a quality layout, something a person can be proud of. 3nodding

xd This reminds me of something: As for the question... I've only made one layout that wasn't for me, for a friend who offered a large amount for it, although I ended up giving it back since she's done more than enough for me to deserve it. I did spend a lot of time on it because of how much things needed to be repositioned and then fixed for IE6 and IE7 xp I like to think that its of a pretty high quality, and I'd do the same if I did take on profile commissions. I don't have a lot of spare time though, so if I ever did that the people would be paying enough to make it worth my while. Unfortunately I do enough of this kind of thing at work and don't really want to do it just for the love in my spare time too sweatdrop

Quality is the biggest thing for me.
I won't give up the code until it's just perfect.
But I won't always go out of my way to reposition things either.
I've sold a few profiles at 20k for it just being a basic skin with no repositioning. And I've given away a few that had lots of repositioning to friends. But most of the time, the more money I'm being given the better I'm going to make the profile look just b/c I want the work to be worth the amount being given 3nodding
