Rep didn't have many mentors in the grand scheme of things but people had been mentioning them quite a bit lately to the point that he felt like it was time he got his team of newbies together and whipped them right into shape. If real life was anything like pokemon he needed a really strong team capable of taking on the big bosses if he was going to be worth anything, and right now he was more like the guy with the number one rattata in the world.
Rodney wasn't even the number one rattata in the world. He needed to be better and that started with teaching him how to ******** fight.
It started with a text to Rodney. It seemed innocent enough.

Rodney was very skeptical of the message he received, because there was really only one thing that anybody "found" on the training fields, and it was fighting.
It was just like Rep to "joke" like this, though, or maybe he thought Rodney wouldn't come if he knew....he tried very hard to even think on the word, and found himself swallowing dryly.
If he knew....fighting was on the table.
He messaged Rep back.
Quote: Hi, Rep. smile Are you inviting me to a spar? You've been a really good mentor, I know it's something I need to work on. Let me change, and I'll meet you there.
He showed up in about 15 minutes, nervous but hopeful, to find Rep and give him a wave and a shy smile.

Rep was a little bit relieved when he got the text back figuring out what his entire plan was but mostly he was shocked that even figuring it out that Rodney would still show up. He had the guy down as anything other than a cowardly little mouse of a person.
He summoned Tracey pre-emptively and rested the enormous axe on the dirt.
When Rodney arrived he got a smirk.
"I hope you are ready for a serious spar." he said. "Because I ******** am."

"I...don't know about that," Rodney said, taking a deep breath and trying to keep in mind that Rep had his best intentions at heart.
And also that no serious or actual harm could come to him.
So, both things. Rep wasn't trying to hurt him. Rep was trying to help him. Seven wouldn't let him get hurt.
"But um, I'll try," he said, thinking Seven into his hands and holding tightly onto the chain.

Rep's intentions were good as far as Rep was concerned, he needed a strong team because if they were strong, he'd look strong. So he was willing to impart his very tender attentions and experience to the other man.
"Well think of it like a rollercoaster." he said. "Once you are ******** on it, there's no getting off till its over."
His speed with the enormous axe was startling and before there was even time to reply he had lunged forward in a leap, closing the distance between them and swinging it around in a slamming attack across Rodney's chest.
"Just enjoy it!" he said.

Rodney didn't enjoy being rushed, but he trusted Rep, and it was...honestly like having an overexcited dog bound towards him, rather than someone bent with malice and anger.
The axe slammed down into him, but Seven (like he also trusted Seven would) caught it.
It wasn't the pain he was afraid of, but there wasn't much pain either. He could feel the hit, but it was more like being pushed. He'd practiced with Lawrence, a little, and when he wasn't immediately curled up on the floor, it felt like an improvement.
He even had enough courage to cast the chain like a line, wrapping around Rep's ankle, closing his eyes, and giving it a tug.

Rep was startled even further when Rodney did what he absolutely didn't expect him to do and fought back.
The damage wasn't too significant but it was there. He tripped and caught himself above the ground with one free hand, laughing aloud.
"No ******** bad!" he said, exhilirated at the sight of someone so gentle and supposedly fragile actually putting a little of his muscle to some use.
"But gotta try harder than that." he said with a wink, using the hook on Tracey's handle to smack the other man across the midriff.

This one took him by surprise, feeling a little more personal than the initial hit. Rep's tone was still reassuring, but he still doubled over, feeling a little sick.
And a huge chunk of the power Seven had to protect him was gone, just gone.
"Hey, pull it together," Seven said, comforting him but with a darker, hungry gleam in their voice that Rodney couldn't help but hear. "And do your best to get in another hit, will you?"
Rodney made a meek noise, the chain just brushing Rep this time.
Seven, sorry, I don't know if I can do this, he thought back desperately, already starting to lock up.

Rep wasn't one for mercy when he was in the zone. As far as he was concerned if there was fear the only cure for it was to shatter through it into that animal zone where flight became fight and you learned what someone could really do when their life was on the line.
He noticed the hesitation in the other man, but to Rep it was just an opening. In the moment he almost forgot he was fighting a hunter. As he swung the blade around again it might as well have been a zombie or some huge monster out to kill him, it was all calculation and brutality.
And the axe lit up brilliantly, even in the daylight.

"I um," Rodney's voice was shaking, "I don't think I'm doing very well, Rep," although he gave it another try, looping the chain around the back of Rep's neck and tugging him close- and then immediately realized it was probably too hard, and too close...
"Sorry," he apologised, "Sorry!"

"Never be sorry for doing your job." Rep said with a smirk, inches away from Rodney, too close to use Tracey.
"But also be careful who you get close to and when."
And just like that he jumped, jumped higher than any human should have ever been able to jump, especially with a huge chunk of black steel trailing behind them. They went up and up and up, Rodney dragged with Rep.
<> Tracey hissed with some satisfaction. <fall.>>
And with an elegant twist Rep changed their direction, the change in forces enough to dislodge Rodney and send him careening into the field, Rep and Tracey slamming into the ground with a thunk mere moments before he did.
Rep was just glad the wards probably cushioned the fall, because it was always a hard one.
He turned, breathless to ask. "You awright?" almost immediately.

Rodney clung tight to Rep as they jumped, and for a moment it was like flying. He squeezed Rep's neck.
"It's so high, Rep," he whispered, "It's Tracey doing this, isn't it? Is it like this every time? You can see...everything from up here."
For some reason, he wasn't expecting to be pushed away, and he barely had time to register the surprise before he was lying flat on the cold and too-hard ground, dizzy and with his shield demolished, the runic magic from the field the only thing still sustaining him.
"Y-yes," he managed to squeak to Rep's question. "...Thank you for taking me up. I think...you're right though, if we were really fighting," and here he had to fight back the tight feeling in his chest, "I'd be dead."
