Thanksgiving was approaching and... well, for once Mags didn't have to work it.

She'd tried signing up, she'd really tried. How else was she gonna spend the day when everyone else and their mother were busy stuffing their faces with family... and she had no family? Maud had been gentle in her explanation that everyone needed to take turns with holidays, that Mags couldn't hog them all because holidays were the best times for tips... but that didn't help Margaret Butler out none, hmph.

She supposed she could try her hand at whipping something up... but what was there to make that she knew how? Biscuits, maybe, if they came outta the can. Spaghetti-Os. Warm up some mac and cheese?

.... aw, hell. Maybe she should just spend the day at the Waffle House as a customer, if they weren't gonna sign her up to work as an employee.

Kat didn’t have time for Thanksgiving. She had never really been a fan of the food that was enjoyed by everyone here in America, and therefore didn’t see the need to...get all fancy. She did, however enjoy the idea of getting together and eating as a family, or as friends, and had been online looking up something called “Friendsgiving” for the past few weeks, getting ideas and just…

Thinking.

It had been ages since she had seen Mags and figured that perhaps this…”Friendsgiving” would be the perfect time to rekindle whatever friendship they might have had...so she had been cooking and getting things ready for the last few days, twisting some of the “Classic” American Thanksgiving items into more user friendly...waffles.

There was a stuffing waffle, that could be covered with turkey and gravy, if one so chose. There was a cornbread waffle...which Kat had to admit was actually really yummy when you put butter on it.

And there was a mashed potato waffle...which was really good too, full of cheese and quite delicious.

She got the table set up, complete with fake autumn leaves spread around it and snapped a picture, sending it to Mags.

[To Mags: UserImg Dinner? I cooked.]

Her phone let out a ding and Mags' heart nearly leaped from her chest. Could it...could it be the 'ol WH? Could they have had a change of heart, or someone had called in and there was an actual spot for her to work??

Grabbing the scuffed device from her back pocket, she was quick to open it up and... stare at the screen for a moment, confused. Wait. It wasn't Waffle House but... ohmahgod, it was Kat.

She clicked the image that was slow to download, letting the old phone take a moment to download the image in full view. When it finally, finally did show, Margaret Butler's stomach growled defiantly at the sight.

Holy mother of waffles.

She was already shoving her wallet and keys into her pocket by the time her thumb hit the "R" in "right there" as the tall, gangly blonde took a final glance around her apartment prior to slammin' the door.

Be right thar! she'd texted back, praying that the bus line still ran on the holiday. Waffles with a dear friend?

How in the world did she get so lucky???

Kat couldn’t hide the fact that she was utterly delighted by the fact that Mags was coming over. The waffles were all placed into the oven to stay warm and she busied herself trying to straighten up the apartment. Mags was coming over.

Mags was coming over.

And suddenly, Kat’s stomach felt upset. She hadn’t even eaten anything yet…

With a sigh she finally just threw the pillow she was fluffing back onto the couch and sat down, staring out the window. Hopefully Mags would get here soon and they could eat.

She missed her friend something awful.

Pulling her phone out she sent back one last text. I am excited to see you.. There. That didn’t sound too horribly desperate…maybe.
Perhaps just a little, but she would deal with it.

Later.

She read her friend's text on the bus ride over, but with the crowd of folks busy tryin' to get to jobs, homes and early shopping adventures, there wasn't much room for her to try to smash the buttons together to form a proper sentence.

Heck, she'd be at her apartment shortly - didn't that prove she was excited to see her too?

Mags couldn't help but wonder what everyone else was up to on this family-oriented holiday. Surely Dan and her family were having some sort of shindig. Bet the folks back home over at Pigeon Creek were having a downright grand 'ol time cooking up whatever they managed to shoot out in the forest.

Sure, waffles weren't turkey or deer or even squirrel but the fluffy carbs would forever hold a special place in the blonde girl's heart.

It didn't take but a block or two from the bus stop to reach her destination, the gangly woman scaling the staircases in the apartment complex until she reached the appropriate hallway and then, the appropriate door. Straightening up her blue flannel shirt, she tucked a runaway wisp of hair behind her ear before her balled up fist hit the door - well, as formally as one could hit a door.

"Kat! Kat, it's me! Ah'm excited to see ya too!!!!"

When Kat heard the frantic banging on her door she had to draw in a deep breath and pressed the cook button on the microwave. She did have turkey…even if it was from the frozen food section…it would have to work, because in no way did she know how to actually cook a turkey…and she really hadn’t wanted to learn…besides…this had looked at least a little tasty, and the idea of turkey and gravy on top of the waffled delights she had made had sounded…

…Really good.

Walking to the door, Ekaterina opened it and gave a small smile. It was indeed Mags…there was no mistaking the wild head of curls and the over bright enthusiasm. But…it was nice. Comforting.

“I missed you. Come in.” She moved aside for the girl and sniffed the air…she could get used to the smells of this Holiday, that was for sure…perhaps Americans didn’t have everything wrong…just most things. “You are hungry?”

As soon as the door shut behind them, gangly arms were reaching out to tug the other girl closer, tightening an excited embrace around the woman she hadn't seen in forever and a day. "Missed ya too, gal. How you been??"

Thankfully the death-grip hold was released only moments after application, the blonde woman finding herself drawn towards the smells the kitchen and dining table had to offer. It wasn't that she didn't want to hang out with her best friend - more like she wanted to hang out with her around the delicious, wonderful scents that beckoned her like a siren's call.

"Even if Ah wasn't hungry, Ah'd still find a way to eat your cookin', Kat."

The confidence in her voice was unshakable, boots shuffling over the carpet as she glanced towards the kitchen, then the table. It dawned on her that proper etiquette would require her bringing more than just her own hungry butt to the dinner table and she had enough sense to look sheepish.

"Shoulda brought somethin' for the table," Mags admitted bluntly, glancing back towards the other girl. "Ah can still go out and grab somethin' - is there anything we're lackin'??"

The sudden embrace made Kat’s stomach do several feats of acrobatics that she hadn’t realized it was capable of, and when it was broken, the bouncing around stopped abruptly and her stomach plunged to somewhere near her knees. Perhaps…

She shook her head slightly. “No, there is enough here. I made a lot.” Gesturing to the table, Kat quickly moved over and pulled out a chair for her blonde friend and nodded towards it. “Sit. We will eat now. Everything is cooked. Everything is warm. Everything is delicious.”

She began piling all of the dishes onto the table and then sat down herself once the turkey was added to all of the waffled side dishes…it looked quite amazing, if she did say so herself…she was finally getting into the ‘spirit’ of things…or perhaps she just had wanted to spend the day with her best friend after months without seeing her…regardless…she was hungry, and there was a lot of food to be eaten.

Quietly she glanced over to Mags and flashed a smile. “I am thankful for you. Eat now.”

No one had ever made her such a grand feast before and Mags could only take a minute to sit back in awe at the entire display of it all. Not even at his finest had Pa managed such a spread - this was fit for a king himself, if Mags had ever actually known any royalty.

Taking the offered seat, she grinned and grabbed her utensils... then remembered to grab her napkin and stuff it in her lap.

Gotta remember manners, after all.

Nodding her head, she saluted her fork in the other girl's direction. "Ah'm thankful for you too, Kat."

And with that, Mags Butler had the best Thanksgiving meal she'd ever had.
