SilverLutz Thought I’d start us another one ^^! She had grown. It wasn’t that strange but something deep down inside her told her she was an adult now! She was all grown up and ready to do something with her life. She wasn’t really sure what though. The question of what she wanted to be had been eating at her for weeks and when something got to the point that she couldn’t suss it out on her own, she went to Shio.
She had spent many hours on his flat rock talking to him about her worries, about growing up, about nothing, about everything. It concerned her that he would eventually get fed up of her asking him every little question. It was really more of a deep fear, what if he got fed up of her chattering? Deep down she hoped he would never get annoyed with her, she would have been beyond sad if he told her he didn’t want to sit on that rock any more.
She had actually been dying to ask him about going in to the sea, together, they could look after each other right? They were older now the sea would welcome them, wouldn’t it? That was an ongoing problem, today’s issue mainly cantered around the fact that she was definitely an adult now and once the sea did accept her, she would be expected to take on a job, she just wasn’t quite sure what it was that she wanted to do. Shio would be able to help, she was certain.
She expected by now that he would be laid out upon the flat rock communing with the sea, or at least she hoped he would be there...

Shio wasn't on the rock, but he wasn't far from where Kelpie expected to find him. Today he sat at the very edge of the sand where the gentle waves lapped at his toes, his eyes closed and head tilted up a bit to catch the sea breeze. His time with Kelpie was enlightening to say the least, talking through their problems together helping him to understand various shortcomings he had and why the sea might have looked over him before. Although he was at peace with his life and the fact that not much was expected of him, he wasn't terribly confident when it came to deeper questions about himself. Did he have a purpose here? Was he just going to glide through life as the son of the king and queen and that was it? Surely there was a reason he was here... Footsteps caught his attention and he turned, smiling as he spotted Kelpie making her way to their rock. He rose from his place and walked in her direction, tail swaying behind him. "Morning," he said cheerfully as his friend drew within earshot. "It's a wonderful day, isn't it? The sea is so calm."

She smiled when he approached her, a feeling of pure happiness rumbled in her chest and without a second thought she head butted her friend with a greeting she hoped would be welcome. “Good morning.” She grinned and turned her gaze out to the sea, a little to hide the embarrassment in her gaze, she’d never really greeted him so familiarly before.
“It is lovely..” She mumbled, lost in thought for a moment as she stared at the gentle waves. It was certainly calm out there, and Shio had seemed so very calm when he had been sat down by the waves. “Do you think we should go in?” She stated knowing he would understand her question without being more explicit.
She turned her eyes back on the pale male and smiled. “I have an important question!” She shook away the somber feeling that she knew the answer to her other question. Could they go in alone? Shio was a little older than her and his mane was fluffy, he was an adult and she was to, they just had to take that one step to be accepted in to the pride. She glanced at their rock but didn’t move on towards it “Let’s walk, for a change, its so nice today.”

The affectionate greeting was returned and Shio had to admit it made his heart race just a bit. Kelpie had turned into a fast friend ever since their meeting a few months prior and it was rare that he wasn't thinking of her when they weren't together. Despite the fluttering in his stomach and the quickened pace of his heart, he kept his usual mellow expression firmly in place. A glance out to the sea made him ponder the question a few moments in silence. Should they? It would be an easy day to swim, for sure, but would it really be the test they were looking for? A cub could swim in the sea on a day like today and although he was eager to be accepted by the sea, Shio knew waiting would be better. Kelpie seemed to change her mind, anyway, and he drew his attention back to the female. "Walking is fine," he said with a little nod, turning to face the same direction as the lioness. "I feel as though today would be a day that the sea would accept anyone. We could swim, but I don't think it would offer us the satisfaction we seek. What's your question?" he added, glancing down at her with a little grin.

She smiled at the pale male and gave a small nod “I guess you’re right.” She sighed a long, rather fake exasperated sigh. “You always know what to say Shio.” She loooks up at the male, he was taller than her, as most males were, he was also about seventy percent more sensible than her. Sometimes she forgot that she was an adult now and felt she should turn to Shio for sensible, down to earth answers thats he couldn’t find on her own. He was her rock, she was so very glad he was her friend though something had definitely shifted in the way shed felt about him,s he just wasn’t sure how to put it in to words and right now, there were more important things to worry about.
“I think I’m an adult, Shio?” It was really more of a question than a statement, and the question was pretty rhetorical, although her musles were still slender and her legs a little more gangly than her mothers, she was certainly sure she was an adult, something about the way the world felt, how she felt how she thought, something, though it was very subtle, had changed about the way she felt.
“I don’t know what to do Shio.” She sighed, this time, the sigh was more of a ‘I give up’ sigh. She had done so much thinking, deep, brain aching thinking about what to do with her life that she needed someone else’s opinion to muddle through it. “I just don’t know what to do now that I’m grown up. I can’t decide and it’s making my brain hurt.” She paused for a second in her stride and rubbed her eyes, though this didn’t solve anything and she felt loose sand roll down her nose. She was supposed to be an adult yet she still made rookie mistakes like touching her face with a sandy paw.
Shaking her head she picked up her paws and opened her eyes, glad to find very little of the grainy material had made its way in to her gaze. “I bet you have it all sussed out, right? You know what you’re going to be now you’re all fluffy..uh grown up right?” She giggled at her slip, “Sorry I call my brothers fluffy instead of grown up, it annoys the heck out of them.” She grins a very broad, apologetic grin, he really was very fluffy though.

Shio walked along beside his friend, nodding slightly at her concerns. He was rather lost as well in terms of what he should do with his life. He had been a royal cub in his youth but now that he wasn't named heir he could pick his own path in life. He had yet to decide, though, still waiting on the sea to welcome him. "You're still young. We're still young," he added, looking down at Kelpie with a little grin. "We've got a long time ahead of us to do adult stuff. Right now I think it's okay to just think. I haven't decided yet either." There were only so many ranks within the pride and he wasn't that great at hunting in the sea nor building dens. Perhaps he would just be a cub sitter. He got along well with the little ones, after all. The 'fluffy' comment made him snicker softly and he lifted a paw to fluff his mane. "It's a suitable nickname," he said with a grin. "I can't say I hate it."

Looking to her friend she gave a nod. He was right of course, she had time to think, there was a whole life time ahead of her, she was only just grown up. She could think about the whole rank thing another time, only, her brain just wouldn’t let it go.
“I know you’re right Shio, it’s just, I don’t know what I am really good at. I mean I can see pretty well so should I be a guard? I like cubs so should I plumb for a cub sitter? And what about a story teller? I like hearing the old stories and then there’s a builder. I like working with my paws.” She sighed again. “I know I have time but why are these things so difficult to choose?”
After this little tyrade the turtle marked lioness let a little grin roll on her maw. If she started calling him fluffy, he wouldn’t mind? It made her worries slip away for a moment and a giggle rose on her maw “Whaddya think fluffy?” She grins a little mischievous glimmer in her silver eyes.

"Maybe just try things out for a while," Shio suggested as they walked in the sand, the little grains shifting between his toes. "I'm sure the other lions won't stick their noses up to help. Do each task for a full moon cycle, then see which you like the best. And if you haven't decided, do it again. Maybe you'll find yourself drawn to one more than the other and you can stick with that." Kelpie's mischievous grin and the tone of her voice made the pale lion laugh and he reached out to bat at her shoulder with his paw. "I think you're one to talk, Curly." While the salt air did curl the fur of all of the lions here, the females certainly seemed to benefit from it the most. It made the males extra fluffy as she had pointed out, but for the ladies of the pride it made them seem elegant and even more beautiful than they already were.

The young lioness tilted her head and faked a glare at him “That’s miss curly to you fluffy!” She pulled a tongue at him and pushed him back. Shio had this way of making her worries just vanish away. He spoke truthfully and with a level head. She wondered why she wasn’t more level headed but shrugged this away. It really didn’t matter, she supposed at least one of them had to be sensible it just turned out that he was the more adult in their friendship.
“You’re my best friend Shio.” It felt right to say this though it didn’t really feel like everything that could, or should be said to the pale butterfly marked male. Maybe there was more to it than that but she could at least settle on this statement today while her mind was occupied by life and growing up and just being an adult way too quickly.
“Come on, lets go and play in the rock pools.” It felt so childish to suggest such a thing but there was just too much swirling through her mind after what she felt was a very blunt statement. Was he really just her best friend? That was way too big of a question and without Shio to ask she would have to mull over it alone or to one of her siblings she supposed. Leaning forwards she tugged his mane with her teeth and bolted off her tail whirling like a propeller. “I’ll race you!” She giggled not stopping to think any more and embracing her head start.

Shio just grinned at Kelpie in response to her shove and her tongue being stuck out at him. While he was certainly the more level-headed of the two, Kelpie brought out the cub in him and gave him the little spark of energy and love of being alive that he normally seemed to lack. She could amuse herself with a pretty leaf for hours on end if need be and he admired her cub-like look on the world. It was no wonder she couldn't pick a rank yet! The admission wasn't one that surprised him but it warmed him all the same. They spent a lot of time together after meeting a few months ago and he was glad to have found a friend so different from him, yet so similar in other ways. He was going to return the sentiment when he was suddenly challenged to a race that would end with a splash in the tide pools, which sounded like a great idea to him. "Cheater!" he called out with a little laugh as he struggled to find his footing in the sand, her head start declaring her the winner long before they would reach the rocks that held the little pools. He didn't mind, though. If he had to come in second, he was glad she had come in first.
