Quote:
The boarding vessel - the pod - is just large enough for four trolls to squeeze into. As the windshield slides up to block your view of the docking bay, you can hear the hum of machinery. The hum swells, then dips into the contented purr of technology and large lusii everywhere. The world is muffled behind your headset, and as the sound of the pod's engine fades, all you can hear is a voice in your sponge clots, counting down.

"Four, three, two, one."

With surprising smoothness, you're pressed back in your seat, and the world becomes a blur. Ahead of you, through the windscreen, you can see a hatch shoot open, and then you're rocketing through the void beyond.

"Target locked on. Engaging auto-pilot."

The voice in your ear is polite yet firm, and the pod swings around to fill your vision with the ring. Barely visible from the planet, it gains something different when you are closing fast. The huge circle of dark and silent ships drift past you, slowly circling the planet in an endless loop. As your pod rockets into the depth of the ring, a bright light flashes past your eyes and flares off to the side. The military has begun to shoot down confirmed derelicts, but your vessel's autopilot doesn't seem bothered. Instead, it guides your pod under hanging metal and over vast dead structures, eventually gliding closer to one ship that, from your eyes, is identical to the other hulks around. Slowing down, the boarding vessel turns to face giant closed doors on the side of the ship.

"Arrived at target. Attempting access."

Your vessel glides alarmingly close to the other ship before it's doors glide open a fraction, and your pod rockets through the small crack. The pod gives a small shudder as doors slide shut behind you, plunging your view into darkness. A moment later, a beam of sickly green light lights up on your helmet, and thin light strips along the floor of the boarding vessel give you back the vision you temporarily lost. At the same time, the pod comes to a halt with the same smoothness that it launched with. A heartbeat later, the windscreen slides back and your seat belts unlock with a click - the first sound apart from the voice in your ear that you've heard since you got into your vessel.

"Docking complete. Turning on local coms. Scanners show movement inside the ship. Good luck, and stay safe."

You are now in the cargo bay.

Your pod sits waiting for you to return to it. To advance into the ship, follow the mechanics below. Good luck and watch out for undead trolls!

Quote:
Ship exploration instructions:

To progress through the ship, follow the instructions below, from top to bottom. You must then follow the bolded instructions relevant to your squad's current situation, and resolve everything related to it before you can roll again.

Ship battle rules:

Players can use healing items/artifacts/powers at any point during ship exploration. For the entire thread, all abilities uses per battle counts the entire ship thread as one battle. The rules for how many trinkets/artifacts can be used per battle also count the entire ship thread as one battle.

=>Refresh your memory on trinkets, artifacts and abilities.

If a member of your team is a trained Agility or Covert-ops specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can scout ahead in the ship.

The user who owns the character must roll. If they like the result, the rest of the team can join them and continue rolling on door/advance tables. If they don't like the result, they can return back to the team and the team can roll again (in character, you are taking a different path through the ship).

You cannot roll on a closed door/advance table then take that back, only on the base movement table below. Your character must wait for X advances through the ship (start counting at 1 on the current advance) before scouting ahead again.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: X = 4.

If you are a Novice in your skill: X = 6.

If you are training your skill: X = 10.

If multiple trolls can do this, they each have their own reset timer for the X rolls. Only one character can scout ahead per turn.

Roll 1d4 and advance through the ship:

If you have rolled on this and/or the alarms advance table 10 times, on the 11th time DO NOT ROLL, instead look at the spoiler below.

If an alarm is going off, you must use the table for it further down, NOT this table.

1 - You advance through the ship ...

2 - You find a closed door.

3 - You advance through the ship ...

4 - You advance through the ship ...

11th time advancing:

You come across a sealed door in the hallway. Trying to open it sends dozens of warnings flickering up on previously-dormant panels. It seems the ship beyond here is too heavily damaged to allow you to pass through. Headquarters confirms the ship is to be destroyed, and you retreat to the exit, leaving the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions along the path.

Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If there is an alarm going off, roll 1d6 and advance through the ship, use this table to determine what you find:

If you have rolled on this and/or the regular advance table 10 times, on the 11th time DO NOT ROLL, instead look at the spoiler under the regular advance table.

1 - You come across some shuffling bodies...!

2 - You come across some shuffling bodies...!

3 - You find a panel with a flashing alert on it. Tapping the panel will turn the ship alarm off.

4 - You find a panel with a flashing alert on it. Tapping the panel will turn the ship alarm off.

5 - You come across some shuffling bodies...!

6 - You come across some shuffling bodies...!

If you find a door, roll 1d4 and use this table to determine what kind of door it is:

1 - The door seems to be ... locked!

2 - Hmm, the door might be ... trapped!

3 - Uh oh, the door might be ... trapped and locked!

4 - The door seems to be ... locked!

If the door is locked:

If a member of your team is a trained Academic or Strength specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You think you can get this door open!

Academic: You've read up on how the old ships used to function, and think you know where to damage the door for the lock to deactivate.

Strength: RAAAAHHHH SMAAAASSSHHHHHHH!!!

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: You can get the door open with your eyes shut!

If you are a Novice in your skill: Roll 1d4 to try and unlock it. Succeed on a two three or four.

If you are training in your skill: Roll 1d8 to try and unlock it. Succeed on a five six seven or eight.
Otherwise, a troll can choose to break it down in exchange for a loss of 5hp, or you can continue to advance in the ship.

AND OR If the door is trapped, roll 1d4 and look below:
1 - The ceiling beyond this door will drop down on the first troll who enters, dealing 1d6 damage!

2 - The room beyond is filled with a laser sensitive grid, dealing 1 damage per post to all trolls who enter, until they exit the room (roll again on the first table)!

3 - The door is lined with miniscule nozzles that will shoot a corrosive, poisonous mist as the door opens, dealing 1d4(rolled individually) damage to all party members!

4- A loud alarm will start to sound through the ship as the door is opened!

If a member of your team is a trained Academic or Covert Ops specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

Your trained eyes spot something suspicious with this door!

Academic: You've read up on how these old ships used to function, and can remember how to set and disable the traps they set for boarding invaders.

Covert Ops: Your eye for the suspicious is tingling, the door doesn't look quite like others. If you pry off a wall panel you should be able to disable anything suspicious looking.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: You can disarm the trap without looking!

If you are a Novice in your skill: Roll 1d4 to try and disarm it. Succeed on a two three or four.

If you are training in your skill: Roll 1d8 to try and disarm it. Succeed on a five six seven or eight.
Otherwise, the trap will only be discovered when it is triggered by entering the room.

If you have successfully unlocked and entered the door, and/or survived any/all traps attached:

Roll 3d4 and post the following code into the resulting post.

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
If you do not find a door, roll 1d6 and advance through the ship, use this table to determine what you find:

1 - You come across some shuffling bodies...!

2 - You find an open door.

3 - You come across some shuffling bodies...!

4 - You find an open door.

5 - You keep walking down the corridor. Nothing here.

6 - You come across some shuffling bodies...!

If you encounter shuffling bodies, roll 1d4 and look below:

You have encountered some well preserved remains of the crew of this ship! The total amount of zombies you encounter is equal your generated number * 3. Use your weapons (standard combat 2d6 roll) to clear your way through the horde, with 1 point of damage equalling one zombie destroyed! For each turn you are fighting the undead, with one turn equalling each member of the party attacking, each member of your party loses 1hp. If all zombies are destroyed in under one turn, the party still takes the 1 damage. Offensive and support artifacts can be used, but artifacts that negate damage or make you harder to hit can not be used.

If a member of your team is a trained Tactics or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You spring into action, fully equipped to deal with the surprise mob!

Tactics: It's easy to keep track of your allies and maneuver between the shambling horde.

Leadership: You can keep your team focused and working together to dispatch the undead.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: You automatically kill five daywalkers a turn!

If you are a Novice in your skill: You automatically kill three daywalkers a turn!

If you are training in your skill: You automatically kill one daywalker a turn!

The automatically killed undead go on top of however many you killed with your regular attack. If multiple members in the team are trained/in training, pick the troll with the highest training, or if a tie, decide on one troll. That troll uses their bonus and adds +1 daywalkers killed for each other troll trained/in training. None of the other trained/in training trolls should use this bonus.

If you encounter an open room, check the spoiler below:

This room seems to be free of hostiles. If you take the time to scavenge around, you might find something!

Go to the google doc here and see how many items remain to be found. Generate a number via the instructions on the doc, and follow the instructions in the doc.

Your team has found an item! To see more details on it, including how many people can use it, read the full description.

Elidae Bonbon
hp: 20
attack: 1d6 (+1 bedazzled superstar military weapon✧・゚*✧・)
ytma: training in agility (cooldown: 10)
trinkets: has some, don't remember what they are!

“You’d think- by now- I’d be used to being in such a cramped space!” Elidae whined, throwing her arms up and stretching out her back after she exited the pod in the cargo bay. After waiting for the other two to exit and strapping her shears around her waist, Elidae put her hands on her hips and gave both of the two volunteers under her a bright grin.

Nucleo and Amonee. Elidae couldn’t help but be delighted when given the opportunity to run her first mission as squad commander with these two. She did request their volunteer files to get a better idea of what she would be working with- not that she didn’t trust either of them weren’t skilled enough. But it helped to have an idea of her first ever space team. Giving Elidae somewhat concern, Amonee did always come across as somewhat fragile to her and she hated the idea of him getting his pretty hands soiled. Maybe she’d treat him to a nice manicure when they got back. With Nucleo- she had less concerns and figured he was more than qualified. Made her wonder why he never joined the military!

“Alright, team! Our goal is to get this ship back on homeplanet! Salvage what we can! Find important information! Your files said this isn’t your first time around and since this is a smaller ship, it’ll be cake for you two, right?” Elidae gave them a subtle wink as she flashed them a smile.

“Ready to go? I’ll scout ahead! Watch my back, alright?” Once they had settled, Elidae moved ahead deeper into the ship. The nerves were beginning to get to her, but she had faith she could do this on her own. There were other things that weighed in on her mind, but for now... she needed to focus.

"Wait, Elida- Er, Sergeant Bonbon!" Nucleo stumbled after Elidae as she raced on ahead. He didn't want to disobey her, the greenblood was just nervous about splitting up! Logically he knew she was more than capable of protecting herself up here, she hadn't been promoted for nothing! But the idea of her getting separated and then in trouble was just too hard for him to stomach just yet. Maybe he'd feel better once they'd made sure there were no flaming zombies aboard this one.

"Sorry, it's just- I'd feel a lot better at your side." The barista admitting apologetically. He hoped she wouldn't have a problem with that! Or, well... find it pathetic.

"I'll do my best for you!" He added with a small salute.

Elidae looked so professional and polished in her uniform, laying out the mission goals and commanding the squad! Amonee flushed and smiled at the sight. He couldn't help but find her confidence inspiring. He wanted to make her proud and so he fell into step as ordered. Truthfully, the jadeblood was not incredibly thrilled to be back on another ship as the past ones had started a spiral of bad thoughts but...

Elidae was here. And Nucleo was here. Somehow, these facts gave him comfort.

"Yes ma'am! I'm right behind you." He searched the hallway as Elidae took the lead, wondering what relics from the past they might find this time. Something sounded from the other ended of the corridor and he froze, his heart sinking. Already...?

"Something's coming!" He tried to sound prepared but a small hint of fear flashed across his face as he looked to Elidae for answers.

Blinking, Elidae looked back over her shoulder as she crouched around a corner. Nucleo seemed to follow her over there. It was a bit cute, but she also was uncertain if he knew about the purpose of scouting. Hearing Nucleo's genuine concern, Elidae felt her pusher squeeze a little. His salute didn't go unnoticed.

“Hey, I agree its ideal we stick together!!” Standing up straight, Elidae offered him a reassuring smile that almost said "i got it" as she put her hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle squeeze. “I appreciate it, Nucleo.”

As Amonee announced daywalkers, Elidae chastised herself for not being more aware and letting her guard down.

“Oops! We've got some friends! Be prepared!!” She echoed, grabbing the handles of her scissors.

Oh how that smile made his heart ache.

Entranced by it, Nucleo didn't even notice the zombies until they were right on top of him. "Ack, watch out!" He echoed Elidae's warning, hoping at least Amonee would be able to get out of the way. Holding up his arms to try and fend them off, he managed to prevent them from one shot KO-ing him. The greenblood stumbled back against a way and struggled to simply keep from getting seriously injured.

"Nghh!" He winced, and tried to kick the legs out from under his zombie captor!

"Nooo!" Amonee yelped, trying to get away from the advancing zombies. He knew he was supposed to be used to them by now as he had had the most experience with daywalkers on Alternia. But trapped in these ships like this with no way to escape other than running back to the transport pod was freaking him out. He wanted to grab Nucleo and Elidae and run away but... it would blemish her record, wouldn't it?

As he pondered this internal dilemma, a zombie began grabbing at his hair, untangling the bun and fancy draping. Amonee shrieked and squatted down into a terrified ball, greatly distressed. It was trying to eat his brains! Help!

After unsheathing her scissor blades, Elidae parted them into two and prepared herself for combat. As she lodged a blade into the ribcage of a daywalker, she glanced over at them and ripped it out.

“You guys doing okay?!” Elidae questioned the two of them, her tone laced with genuine concern. Panic set in as soon as she saw bot of them basically not okay. Leadership lesson one: take care of your team.

Amonee!” Elidae called, stepping ttowards the daywalker in his hair. After lopping off its head and shoving its body to the side, Elidae extended a hand to the greenblood, clasping it in her own and pulling Amonee up to his feet with haste. Her words were firm, but compassionate. “You have to get up! I need you to fight! Nucleo-” Elidae turned her body and threw a pair of shears into the thinkpan of a daywalker advancing on him. “There's a few more!”

"R-right! Hang on!" Nucleo answered, grateful for the assist from Elidae. Her accuracy was amazing, he mused as the daywalker that'd pinned him slid down the wall with some scissors in it's brain. She really knew her way around a troll's head! That meant he'd better start showing up too! Jumping into action, the greenblood pummeled the oncoming daywalkers she'd alerted him of! Braids whipped through the air as he kicked and punched them to the ground. He was so embarrassed at how terrible this encounter had started, he had to show he was capable!

"I think that's all of them. Everyone alright?" He asked, dusting himself off and turning to the others. Even against the weaker fry like this, he was always going to check.

"Nice control, by the way Elidae! I don't think I'm half as accurate!" He'd tried throwing darts a few times and usually it ended with broken mason jars on the floor.

Elidae's hand was warm as she pulled him to his feet before swiftly turning to take out some of the daywalkers. He watched in amazement as Nucleo and Elidae finished off the rest of them. They made an incredible pair! He couldn't even dream of being able to fight like that. He struggled with the thought of pain and avoided it at all costs. But there they were, risking their bodies against a pack of undead monsters while also on a potentially malfunctioning spaceship.

They were so brave. Amonee felt so small.

"I'm sorry, Elidae. I just.. froze up." He painted a smile across his face. "I think I've gotten my space legs now. Let's keep going!" He pointed towards a hallway, eager to get away from the insecurities this room had tapped into.

Eyes alt, Elide watched Nucleo intently to see him take out the last few daywalkers with just his fists alone. Maybe he needed a little encouragement?

Elidae blinked in surprise and blushed a bit when Nucleo complimented her aim. Putting a hand to her mouth to stifle a giggle- 'cmon, Sergeant, keep it together!- Elidae grinned and responded with a very flattered thank you.

“I think that's it! Good job, guys!” Elidae huffed with a big smile, sheathing her shears back and stepping over a daywalker. She put a gentle hand on Amonee's shoulder and gave him an understanding smile. "Right, let's keep moving!” She followed after the two, taking the time to look at the now that it was quiet again.

“Let's go in here for a bit- looks safe! No daywalkers!” Giddy, Elidae trotted into the room, ready to find something neat. After rummaging around, she didn't find too much of interest, but the area was still cool! And daywalker-less!

"A-ah, alright!" Nucleo followed Eidae in hesitantly. He looked around nervously, afraid of what they might find. The hallways were dangerous, with the daywalkers wandering around but the rooms... they could contain anything. He wasn't afraid of fighting, though he tried to avoid it if he could. It was the computers that scared him. That log he'd found under Frossa's command had done a number on his mind. It was chilling to imagine something like that happening again. He found himself glancing out the windows when they passed them on the ships now, checking just in case.

He found himself worried that one day the military might turn on the Lightseekers this way. They had no reason to- it wasn't like they were doing anything that threatened the Queen. But then again, who knew what the future would hold? The only certainty was more death.

Wow he was starting to get in a mood, wasn't he?

"This could be useful!" He grabbed a random item off a shelf. He wasn't sure what it was- a canister of some kind? Either way, he needed to distract himself before he started to spiral again.

Amonee advances again and looks around!!
3/11 advances
0/2 minibosses defeated

"Erm, what is that- Nevermind, I don't want to know." The stuff on these ships were kind of spooky. It felt like they were going to open boxes or containers and monsters would spring out of them. He let Nucleo hold on to the mysterious item and looked around for another path. Hopefully they could find the control room soon and go home. Maybe they could order a pizza to the space tower and celebrate in her office! Somehow he doubted that was actually possible but the image of it made him chuckle a bit and he motioned to follow.

"You know, it's almost like we're on a sitcom. A scary sitcom but I swear I've seen this show before!" Amonee was a pop culture consumer and he loved to tune in to the crazy hijinks that graced the Alternian airwaves. Space Trek was one of his favorites when he was in a sci-fi mood!

Elidae Bonbon
hp: 19
attack: 1d6 (+1 bedazzled superstar military weapon✧・゚*✧・)
ytma: training in agility (cooldown: 6)
trinkets: has some, don't remember what they are!

“Whoa, whatever that is, let's keep it! Probably useful!” Elidae, in fact, had no idea if it would be useful. But maybe there were instructions on the back of the container that could help.

Genuinely laughing to Amonee's comment, the yellowblood followed after Amonee. "I think I'd rather watch it than star in it. Who's the love interest?" She giggled, moving to the front of the team. Elidae kept her eyes bright and alert. No sound of daywalkers yet. As they advanced, another open door caught her eye.

“Oh hey!! Let's try in here!"

Nucleo is using his clones!
4d6 hits with +1 to accuracy to each on this attack, 1x per battle. First two numbers are the 'hit or miss' determiners, second two are the damage done.

"You're really good with these doors!" Nucleo laughed, following Elidae inside. She truly was a lucky ladybug! The friendly aura around her was comforting and he let his guard down as they searched the room. Poking around at the console, he still didn't like trying to open these files but did so anyway. While it made him nervous, he knew she was even more nervous about her first mission going well. If he could help ensure that, he would! Plus he'd rather be the one to find something bad than leave it to Amonee.

"Oh no-" The greenblood bit his tongue as he found a working log.

"-password for this file. Got it working." He quickly ad-libbed his regret away and clicked it to open. He didn't want to open it but if it contained something useful about Alternia's ecosystem or for Elidae's mission he'd just have to tough it out.
