Lysander was always an ungrateful p***k and that made him an ideal target to show him his new toy. If he wanted to bad mouth Atlantis, he only felt it was a personal responsibility to reprimand the guy.
The thing was, he couldn't be alone around Lysander anymore. Luckily, they knew a mutal party.
With Babel floating ahead, Melvin did a few pot shots at a dummy with Saliva as he waited for Lysander and Merric.

Lysander really didn't like Melvin. Everything about the guy felt off somehow and it put him on edge. He was dangerous to say the least and had proven violent on two separate occasions, the second even more sexually charged than the first.
He wouldn't admit it to anyone but he was relieved that Merric would be joining him this time, not at all keen to be left alone with the other man, completely uncertain of what he was potentially capable of.
He showed up dressed comfortably in preparation of a risky fight and summoned Herald long before he stepped into the wards. He didn't like pain but if they could beat Melvin to a pulp, maybe it would be worth it.

The only thing Merric knew of Lysander and Melvin's relationship - such as it was - was that neither one of them particularly cared for the other. It had been a while since Merric had even seen Melvin, which made him feel a little bad that he hadn't gone to visit.
He arrived alongside Lysander, dressed as impeccably as he always was, since he wasn't the one that would be fighting. Merric offered Melvin a small smile in greeting, though the fish was a little disconcerting.
"Good afternoon," he said, a little tentatively. "I hope you're doing, ah...all right."

Desummoning Saliva, Melvin walked the few steps to meet the pair. As per regulations, Merric was there to serve as a witness that Melvin didn't do anything against code with Lysander, which was both a bit embarrassing but also a good measure Melvin thought. Lysander already had his weapon out.
"I see you're ready." Melvin said, and turned his attention to smile at Merric.
"Oh, much better. The waters are calm. Atlantis is open to negotiations, and I have a brand new assistant. Not to mention I've employed construction to my house. Things are good, and not to mention having the Sun back. It's a bit dark under the ocean." He said.
"Looks like you recovered well from the big fight. Thanks for you help back there."
He moved to a nearby bench and picked up a long, slender metal rod and walked over. "So, are we ready to start this?"

There was a deep revulsion that Lysander felt looking at Melvin, a feeling that ran at odds with everything about his appearance. He was light haired, fair complexioned with excellent skin and handsome features. He should have been attractive but instead all Lysander felt around him was a sick gnawing resentment and repulsion. It bothered him, running too close to how he felt when he thought too hard about his own inclinations and tastes. It was like seeing something walking around in daylight which should not even exist.
Merric got a small smile briefly before Lysander looked once more to Melvin and his expression fell. His dark, dark eyes always seemed deeper still when he dropped his smile and took the twinkle out of them.
Even the chatty front, all about Atlantis, about things going well, having an assistant, one twinned with his own. It all felt wrong. He didn't want Melvin to touch him.
"I don't know, are we?" he asked coldly.

Lysander's little smile was a brief and reassuring thing before it disappeared again, which was worrisome in and of itself. Merric wanted to do more than just stand there and offer support, but really, there was nothing to be done; and he also was relatively certain that any physical contact in public was vehemently discouraged.
To Melvin, he said, "I'm glad to hear things are going well. I didn't realize you had an assistant, is he just someone on the island?"
Merric's cheeks reddened, just the faintest amount, at the gratitude. He quickly shook his head. "Oh, yes, I'm fine - and I don't think I did much, but I'm glad to have helped in any way. It's nice to hear that Atlantis is being taken care of, at the very least."
He glanced over at Lysander again, the frigid tone of his voice making him inwardly cringe. Merric took a few steps back so that he wouldn't be directly in the way of any of the fighting, hands twisting together in front of him, uncertainty curling in his stomach.
He felt uneasy about this whole thing in a way he couldn't quite explain.

"Oh, I think you might. Fred. Brother of Lysander's dear assistant. Very hard worker. Been doing great assisting me with all my work." He said, smiling sweetly at Lysander.
"Yeah, I think we are. Babel, go sit." He said, to which the floating golden fish went to settle on the hunter jacket set on the bench nearby.
Moving his fingers against the rod, the blade shot out and he took a stance. "Go ahead. Hit me."

Lysander didn't need to be told to go for it twice. Normally he didn't like violence, avoiding with everything he had in him any sort of confrontation. He liked to keep violence in a controlled, rigid place, as in possession of it as he could possibly be. This was a rare occasion, simply letting it run wild, safe in the knowledge he couldn't really hurt Melvin and probably wouldn't even get a chance to.
He narrowed his eyes at the mention of Fred but didn't retort regarding him. "Okay." he said flatly.
And attacked, swinging Herald as best he could at the other man.

For a trainee, it was a decent hit. It at least made constant, he'd give him that, but this close Melvin was also not at experienced with sword fighting. In the end, he was here to actually take the hits in order to deliver a harder one in return.
"Oh, you hit me. Good job." He said, praising Lysander in a overly sweet tone before he raised his weapon.
"Head's up." He swung wide, going for hitting out to Lysander's midsection as he made an arching slash at him with the sword.

Lysander didn't expect the attack to hurt anywhere near as much as it did and went careening backwards just from the force of the blow, landing heavily on his rear with a sound of pain. Pain made him grumpy the way an irritating sound or nails on a chalkboard might make someone else irritable. When he had a headache he was known for being almost intolerable.
This was worse than a headache.
He got back to his feet unsteadily and steeled himself to try again.
<> The creature sounded concerned. <>
"Do you ever stop being an insufferable piece of complete s**t?" he asked with uncharacteristic vitriol.

"You are so sensitive, Lysander. Every time I try and explain the island or a simple aspect of how things work, you get defensive and snap back. I'm your senior with years of training and information and yet you'd rather cover your ears and whine that I'm being such a terrible person."
He let Lysander move back up, waiting as he watched him. From his peripheral he could sense Merric nearby. Watching.
It was a show.
"Now that you're up." Rushing in again, he swiped at him the same way as before.

Merric was still trying to work out the fact that Melvin's new assistant was apparently Roswell's brother and almost missed the start of the fight. What he didn't miss, however, was the tension that seemed to rise between the two of them, thick and heavy with sarcasm and dislike.
He had never heard Lysander sound so scathing. Angry, yes. Disapproving, and demanding, but never in a voice that sounded as though it was taking every effort to keep from throttling Melvin. Merric stared at the two of them as they moved, his heart hammering in his chest.
He said nothing, but he'd gone to sit on the bench beside Babel and was now on the edge of it, hands gripping his knees.

Lysander didn't hit the ground this time but stumbled as he tried to block the swing with his sword instead, still taking a huge portion of the swing in his shield.
"You've done nothing but be horrible since I arrived and you know it." he said irritably.
"But continue to lie for the audience. You are really good at it."

"I haven't lied. What have a lied about? That you b***h and complain because you don't get away and feel you can say whatever you want and people are just supposed to stand there and take it? Or that you are never going to get into a situation where you are going to experience real pain here? Where that mouth of yours is going to piss off the wrong person and get you into trouble. Worse trouble than ever before? Some place without pretty wards to keep you from spilling out onto sand."
He stepped closer now. "Twisting your arm was just a reprimand from a senior for a temperamental hatchling who wanted to run off without getting the one thing that could protect him."
"You really want to pay attention in a spar." He said, and this time did not swing but stabbed out straight into the other. --
Babel the fish stayed resting on Melvin's coat beside Merric. It's fins moving in and out alongside it's body as it mimicked breathing and stared at the fight, or moreso, at Melvin. It did, however, turn it's face at Merric when he sat before looking back.

Lysander narrowed his eyes again. “You are lying all over again, acting like you’ve been nothing but a kind, gentle and lenient person with nothing but kindness and good ideas. You haven’t been, you know what happened down in the pod rooms, what you did and what you threatened to do. There is nothing good about you, you are a horrible, toxic, evil person and I don’t know why no one else has figured you out yet. It’s all just an act by a psycho.” He clenched the hand not holding the sword tightly. “And even now you are full of threats.”
The stab hurt a lot, the pain lancing through his shield right into the very core of him, and he knew if it wasn’t for the protection that Herald represented, he would be dead there and then. The thought of this made him feel nauseous with its vividness, making him bend double and actually retch as he backed up from Melvin, not good at dealing with any of the sensations associated with being on the receiving end of combat.
He snarled at the other man, holding his gut as he swiped somewhat feebly in retaliation, not enjoying the encounter at all and listening to Herald telling him there was no way at all they could endure another hit like that and that they were getting close to their limit of endurance.
