Misha hummed to herself as she adjusted her grip on the bag in her arms so it better rested against one curvy hip, freeing a hand to knock on the door clearly marked “Brian.” Inside where the staples, the list arrived at as tried and true by a number of nights. Popcorn, soda, Whoppers, Raisinettes, Twizzlers… What had started as a way to pass time when she visited him at his apartment in Houston now featured as a regular event for the two of them at the Prytaneum campus. She almost hated to admit it but it upset her equilibrium a bit when they went more than a couple of weeks without a movie night.

There was something both reassuring and unnerving about the nights spent cuddled up with Brian, eating garbage food and watching a range of movies. He now knew all about her secret love for the eighties Brat Pack movies and how she still cried when Mufasa died in The Lion King (and Ray in The Princess & The Frog and Bambi’s Mom…) She could not even feel annoyed at it. Brian accepted it all with a cute little faint smile and a hug. Of course, she also now knew his movie related Achilles Heels. It was fun. The entire thing was fun.

Also a little baffling and completely out of her range of experience. Misha could not remember the last time she had spent so much time with a guy in a relatively platonic way. Relatively, of course, being the key word because, heaven knew, Brian let her get very snuggly indeed and could things ever be completely platonic when you had made out extensively with your movie buddy? And still would at the a drop of a hat?

She laughed to herself and knocked. “Brian! It’s movie time!”

Brain was just as happy to have taken up the habit of Movie Night with Misha. In his head it sounded like a YouTube review show, but in reality it was a private, personal sort of matter. Life had fallen into a rhythm again. Without his old career to fall back on, Brian had tumbled full-force into the Prytaneum for supply runs and odd jobs and taken up a more serious interest in fitness and, specifically, running. There was a sense of camaraderie in the community of marathon-runners that he enjoyed, even if the people he met were merely text on a screen at the end of the day. He hadn't run anything huge yet, but he was always glad to share with Misha. She seemed excited for him, and there was a shameful sense of pride when someone else saw your hobbies as exciting, or at least pretended to.

It had been a while since their last movie night, but Brian had since acquired a decent television so they could settle in and plop down whenever they wanted. His eyes rolled toward the door when he heard a voice, but with recognition came that same boyish half-smile.

"One second!" he called. He clapped his laptop shut and gave up on his search for interesting online classes in lieu of some time with his best friend. He'd have gladly let Misha come right in, but maybe her hands were full.

He opened the door and his smile returned, full-force now. "Come on in." He stepped aside so she could enter. There was no pretense here, even if his understanding of the situation was a little off. Some people might call these nights "dates," but he was happy to accept them for what they were. Everyone needed to wind down once in a while.

"What's on the menu this time?" he asked, eying the bag she carried and the movies they had to choose from.

"Menu?" she echoed with a wicked grin. "Absolute garbage. One hundred percent non nutritional nonsense. Mostly because I know we both had excellent, well balanced dinners and because I want chocolate and badness if we are going to make our way through the first two Fast & The Furious movies."

Misha slipped through the door, neatly skirting him. She managed to bounce onto the balls of her feet and brush a kiss over his cheek in passing. Then she crossed his room to set the bag down. Beginning to unpack it, she grinned over her shoulder at him. "Unless you object and have a better suggestion for movies?

"Perfect," Brian half-rumbled at the mention of junk food. He was used to that sort of thing for these nights, but the particular snacks chosen seemed to be on a cycle. "Ooh, chocolate?" He hadn't had a shitty snack since just about their last movie night, so sue him.

He chuckled at the choice of movies. "Nah, they might be good! You never know. Fast cars and explosions are good by me." Of course by now they'd have learned that Brian didn't mind chick flicks or romance or historical dramas either. He was up for just about anything but war films.

"Why Fast and Furious? You got a thing for muscly bald guys?" He grinned, winked, and flexed his biceps briefly before going to raid the bag Misha had brought. "Ooh." He stole the Whoppers and popped them open, tilted it to pour some into his hand but stopped short of actually freeing any. "Am I allowed to have the chocolate too?" Sometimes, he knew, you did not touch a lady's chocolate. Growing up with little sisters made a man wise.

"Of course you are. Goose." Misha rolled her eyes but her grin put lie to any hint of feigned annoyance. She sidled over to him and stuck her hand out for some of the Whoppers. "Pretty please with sugar on top?"

When Brian obliged and poured a few into her hand, she rewarded him with another pretty smile. "You're right. Who can argue with fast cars and explosions?" she agreed. "As for muscular bald guys... Well, you're not quite bald, sweetie, are you?" She popped one piece of candy into her mouth and reached up with her free hand to tease clever fingers through the short crop of hair on her friend's head. Her eyes sparkled with laughter.

Brian pretended to glare at Misha and pulled the box away a fraction of an inch, but it was just an instant before his expression resolved and he tipped a few chocolate spheres into her hand. He took a couple himself then and popped them into his mouth.

"Mmh!" was all the defense he could give to Misha at first, what with his mouth being full, but he smiled and tilted his head down so she could better rub it. People liked feeling the fuzz, and frankly it felt sort of nice when it was someone you liked enough to let them. His hair was a little longer than usual, mostly for Misha's insistence that he'd look nice with actual hair, but it had reached that awkward middle-ground and he'd given up again.

"Well, neither is The Rock," he said finally, "Or Vin Diesel. Going bald, maybe, but they're shaved. Shaved, buzzed, whatever, you know you love me." He popped another Whopper in his mouth and then held out his free hand for the first movie. "Did you see these in the theater?"

"Nope. I've seen bits and pieces of all of them. There are what, twelve now? It's kind of like Rocky, I guess. It keeps going and going." Misha adopted her most innocently sweet look as she popped a Whopper into her mouth. She chewed, thoughtful and dainty. "I guess there is an awful lot of mileage in those Fast and Furious movies, huh?" she finally asked.

Ba-dump-ching.

The pun went right over Brian's head, though he did think the wording was strange.

"I guess so. From what I understand, there's not a whole lot to them," he said. He went to pop the first movie in and snatched the remote up. He offered it out to Misha, "I guess people won't get bored of fast cars and explosions. The plot's probably pretty secondary, right?" He hadn't seen them either, not in the theaters, but clips were hard to avoid.

He crawled up into bed then and pressed back against the wall to allow Misha some room to join him. A half-smile crossed his lips.

"Like most action movies, yep." Misha accepted the remote with a teasing little curtsy. Then she watched him settle on the bed and a warm smile, bigger than his, curved her lips. There was a bit of anticipation in her expression, a joy at the upcoming snuggles and goofy movie time brightening her face. However, she paused and turned back to her bag before joining him. Tucking the remote under her chin so as to free up both hands, she retrieved a bottle of Diet Pepsi, the package of Twizzlers, and a big bag of pretzels. Supplies tucked under one arm, she let the remote fall again and caught it in her free hand. Then she trotted over to his side, lowered the goodies to the mattress, and clambered up beside him.

It took only a moment to settle against his side, snuggled up and comfortable. "Are you ready for it, Handsome?"

Physical affection could be a little awkward outside of family, but it was different with Misha. It had been for a long time now. It was a relief that he didn't have to wonder when it was appropriate or wanted, because Misha tended to just sidle up and take it, just like now as he wrapped his arm around her and settled in.

"Always," he said. He reached around for the Whoppers box, rethought his decision, and grabbed the Twizzlers instead.

His TV wasn't the best. There was only so much you could do in these little dorm rooms. It really wasn't about the movies, though. They were a nice addition, but not the focus of the event. Sometimes there was something to talk about, like their first movie night, and sometimes it was just the two of them doing nothing at all but being together. This was how friendship was supposed to be.

Misha shifted again to tuck herself into his encircling arm more definitely and rested her head half against his chest. She could hear his breathing, even and reassuring, and feel his chest moving a bit beneath her cheek. "Perfect," she murmured. "I just hope the movie is noisy enough to keep me awake. You're so comfy. I could fall asleep right here."

With that warning, she picked up the remote and hit play. Almost immediately, the noise and music of the movie started. She had managed to get past the menu in record time and straight to the movie. It only took a handful of minutes for them to start grinning. Clearly, their expectation was spot on; it was going to be pure adrenaline and explosions without a lot of complicated emotions or plot.

For a moment he wondered if this wasn't one of those times when there was something to talk about. If Misha was especially tired, maybe something was up? But no, he was being complimented on how comfy he was, and even if it was silly and biased it felt nice. He smiled and gave Misha a little squeeze.

"No sleeping. The Rock is counting on us." But really, there were worse things than having Misha asleep on him

Brian wasn't an especially vocal audience, even when it came to especially exciting movies, but he did laugh and tense from time to time, both of which Misha was likely to notice being so wrapped in his arms. There was no thought to this movie, not on the part of the audience, and Brian was totally fine with that.

Every so often, Misha would shift to reach for candy but she did not move too far from her comfy spot beside Brian. Just as often, she offered him a piece of whatever she got for herself. Sharing was caring, after all.

As the credits finally rolled, she started giggling and twisted to grin up at her friend. "Well," she announced, "that was pretty much as advertised, huh? Did you have fun?"

Brian never refused the offer of candy, though he didn't usually partake of the stuff if Misha wasn't around. A little sweets never hurt anybody, and even if he wanted to run seriously, he wasn't about to go full paleo-and-protein-shake like some of the people he knew. Life was too short and dangerous to not enjoy the food you ate.

Brian grinned at the sound of Misha's giggling and looked down to her.

"I always have fun with you, Beautiful," he said, and though it was said as a tease it was definitely true. Misha was even his comfort on terrifying missions, though then he was in an entirely different mindset. "What do you say, on to Part Two?"

"Mmhm. Unless you need to stretch. Actually..." The thought of a stretch clearly triggered something and Misha reached up to hand him the candy. Then she slithered from his bed, moved to stand in the middle of his room, and took a deep breath before giving her shoulders a good roll. She shot him a reassuring smile. "Not that you're not super comfy, of course."

Then she proceeded to lace fingers together behind herself and stretch her arms backwards, head tipping back to help increase the release of tension in those muscles. Her chest pushed out for the ten seconds of the stretch. Relaxing again, she dropped her arms. She gave her shoulders another roll, then tipped her head from one side to the other. "I think I might have slept wrong last night," she explained.

Turning, she fetched the bottle of soda. "And here I thought my flexibility was better than ever from all of the time I'm putting into the gym here. Maybe it's the wrong kind of time? I don't know. What have you been doing in there? From a work out point of view and all?"
