Joy knew there was a communal library on Deus but she'd never really explored it. As far as she was concerned, all the books in it were of the educational, technical, this is too much for my brain power type of books. Which explained why she completely missed out on the fact that there was a section of romance novels all ready to impart their smutty fun to any willing reader.
And the sheer volume of volumes available was overwhelming. So much so that Joy wouldn't even know where to begin. Which was why she was so grateful for Chantelle's help.
"I think I've only read, like, five of these?" she murmured to herself while she waited for the other woman to arrive.

Chantelle showed up carrying a small stack of books in her hands, some duplicates of her favourites she'd read a zillion times as a gift for the other hunter. She loved romance, it was so fantastical and something she couldn't honestly ever really imagine happening to her. It was always better to just escape into the worlds she read about and ignore the real world's ...complicated limitations.
She set the books on the table and gave Joy a wave.
"Hey there!"
In appearance Chantelle was the prototypical teen goth, with black lipstick, careful makeup and eyeliner and the kind of outfit which simultaneously managed to look like it had cost too much money and yet was from entirely the wrong time period.
"Brought these for you!" she said. "Just as like, something to like, take away with you and stuff."

Joy's exposure to anything remotely goth in her life had been through American media because anyone who tried to emulate the fashion or lifestyle in her tropical home country did not last long. At least not without suffering from heat stroke shortly thereafter. Still, Joy made a note to keep an eye out for Chantelle in future missions to have her back and keep her smut-book-dealer safe.
The stack was eagerly accepted with an amused "Uy, thanks for these!" She scanned the titles, did not recognize any, but she was kind of excited for that. "But, um, I don't think I can take all of these out? Don't libraries have, like, a limit or something? Wait don't libraries also need a card?" Joy had never been in her country's public library but she sure remembered her school library requiring one for clearance purposes.

Chantelle shrugged. "Those ones are my own, so you can have them to keep. If you don't have anywhere to keep them just like, bring them back to me and I'll like put them back on my bookshelf and stuff."
She nodded in the direction of a table with a folder. "The actual books in here you just like, sign out if you need to take them out, though some you aren't allowed to anyway. I think like, some people do their own libraries or leave books in the common areas, though those ones like, go missing sometimes??"
She blinked in confusion into the air before seeming to dismiss this entirely. "But you like, totally need to tell me how it goes when you read them, I'm so excited to have a reading buddy!"

Joy made a note to be extra careful with the books. Not that she was going to be mistreating them had she not know they were Chantelle's personal collection. At the whole personal library thing however, the intermediate moon couldn't help but grin, "At my high school we tried something like that. We'd bring pocket books we were willing to lend out and we kept them, like, in this bookshelf by the door with a sign up sheet too!"
She sighed wistfully, "I lost so many books that way..." a beat. "But don't worry, I will be sure to bring these back to you. And to the library. My room's decorated more to, ah, hold shoes than books. But I would love to meet up again after I've read some!"

Chantelle looked delighted at this. "We should do a romance library just like that. We can put it in this official library, that way people would need to sign them out! I bet they would. It would be really nice and I bet the lovely Dr would let us buy some too for research. I love having friends with similar hobbies to me!" And apparently just like that Joy had been promoted to friend.
"And like, don't worry about it. I trust you. And yes! Yes please! I'd love to talk about books with you. Anytime."
She hoped she didn't sound too desperate.
