It was less of a surprise to show Nash the rods he was given seeing as he already saw one in use during their mission with Lawr. It made it easier to ask him out to the training fields to help him with a spar and to answer more questions he didn't answer during their fight at the zoo.
That and havibg Nash alone and away from any outsiders felt like a good idea and he enjoyed time spent with him. He was hoping to get lunch with hin after.
When Nash arrived, he showed him the rod, which was almost indistinguishable from the other. "I just need to get some charges on it." He explained. As per usual, Babel was floating around them.

Considering the last time that Nash had seen the rods had been during that disastrously aggravating mission with Melvin and Lawrence, he was more than a little wary of them now. He gave them a suspicious look, his whip currently summoned and curled loosely around his feet where he had dragged it.
"Charges for what, exactly?" Nash asked. "Is it meant to be building something or like, I dunno...collecting energy and exploding outwards or something?"
He'd seen too many movies. Good thing Lawrence wasn't here to make fun of him for it.

"Atlantis doesn't have a source of energy right now to make anything work to help with repairs. It's the exact same as when we use each other's energy to get a charge to do a more powerful attack back. Instead of using one against you, I'll just be keeping it. It won't be exploding at anyone. They wouldn't give me something so dangerous. Babel here is actually a guardian to protect me, and I would never want to put you in harm's way, Nash." The last part was spoken more softly, fondly, to the other man.

Melvin's explanation at least made more sense than the one that Nash had come up with in his head. He swung the whip around to make sure had a good grip on it, then flashed Melvin a glance at his quieter tone, Nash softening a little.
"Yeah, thanks," he said, a little gruffly, but he flashed him a smile anyway and probably would have pecked him a greeting kiss, but it was too late for that.
"Let's get that rod powered up then, right?" Nash said, waggling his eyebrows, then snapped the whip forward.

He junped back as the whip snapped at him. "Damn. That's new. I haven't fought against a whip before."
It's movements were so much quicker than an axe and more physical and in-your-face then a gun.
Moving forward, he swiped wide at Nash's midsection, not skilled enough for more precise hits so going for broad and wide swipes.
HP: 56/60

"I've never fought with a whip before," said Nash, a little grimly, and stumbled back as Melvin's rod came slashing towards him, catching him across the stomach. He let out a small hiss, then came forward again, snapping his own weapon forward.
"It's kind of a pain in the a** to figure out how to use."
Case in point: he missed hitting Melvin by a long shot.
