The message was simple. A request for a spar. Atlantis business. Al had been there ehen he stayed there and seemed pretty torn up over leaving him. It was good to assure him that he had been fine and was back without any issues. Al would probably not cause too much of a fuss to spar with an Atlantian weapon either.
He waited on the fields and waved when he saw him approach, the rod in one hand and Babel overhead.

Al rushed on over to the training field as soon as he received Melvin’s text. He was both glad to see him back again and to help out his little endeavor. Seeing him waving, he waved back before jogging up to him. He was breathing heavily as he clutched his knees. He distantly wondered if he should work out more. He flashed Melvin a wide toothy grin. “So what exactly do you need me to do?” He asked while shifting to stand at his full height.

He was surprised as Al had ran all the way here. "Geezus. I didn't say it was an emergency. Take a moment and sit down. Have a breather." Melvin gestured to the bench he was keeping his things and sat down to let Al come over and sit down too.
"I need help that needs me to spar with a weapon. Nothing dangerous. It just needs charges. It hits a little harder than Saliva too. I just want to make people aware and not spring a surprise on them." He reached over to a leather black parcel and pulled out a sleek metal rod with small details all about the surface.
"Are you okay with that?"

Al flopped onto the bench like a limp rag doll as soon as it was offered to him. He breathed in and then sighed. He almost wished it was more than what it was. Only almost though. He was sure he couldn't screw up such a simple task, at least. He smiled and nodded, "Sure. No problem. Anything special you need me to do different?" He eyed the rod curiously. It seemed harmless enough.

Melvin pressed a thumb against the rod and a long blade sprang out of the top end. "No. Treat it as any other spar." Babel rose up above him in preparation for the fight.
"Don't get hit." He said to it before taking a firm stance.

"I don't plan to," Al assured as he sprung to his feet and summoned his staff.

As quickly as he got to his feet, he was already swinging and swung Nuru directly at the rod in Melvin's hands.

"Damn, you're energetic. Are you always thus perky after a run?" He moved back from the dtaff as it snacked his shield before moving back in and making a wide swipe at Al's chest.

"Nope," Al flinched as the rod made contact with his shield and sent him back.
"Only when a spar is involved," He teased before running forward again to smack Nuru against the rod and push forward through the swing. Not intending to damage the rod, but possibly to disarm Melvin.

"I'm not interested in front line infantry," Al argued. "I just want to be stronger and faster."
"That's something we should all want," but don't, he mentally added. Some people preferred to employ others to get stronger for them.
Lost in thought, he was startled by the thrust forward and flinched, his own weapon flailing a little and making no contact with anything.
"So is this like some sort of new runic weapon?"

He stumbled back, amazed that Al was holding up far better than other hunters he had sparred with the rod.
"And give up all the joys of runicing. I'd never think of it." He joked and slashed back again.

Al spun Nuru suddenly and aimed him maw first in Melvin's direction just in time for a massive pillar of violet flames to shoot out in Melvin's direction. Singing some nearby grass but missing Melvin.
"Guess I'm not sun prime either." He sighed.
