MISSION 4N - 1M3, LOS ANGELESQuote: Retrieval Mission 4N-1M3 Location: Los Angeles, CA Images:: x, x General debriefing: A very valuable artifact has somehow made its way into the wild. The good news is that it blends right into the paraphernalia of its new resting place. The bad news?
That resting place is currently in an anime convention's Dealer's Alley. Yikes.
Sun Division needs you to go fetch it, as it is one of theirs. And since you're going for the undercover look... they insist on one thing.
YOU MUST GO IN COSPLAY.
* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, and at least one of them must be an Intermediate Trainee.) MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team (and their cosplays), as necessary, before heading towards the main portal to request a portal to Retrieval Mission 4N-1M3. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll a BOSS ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics. 1- 20: You can't make it to the Dealer's Alley at all. In fact, you get mistaken for a participant in a cosplay contest, and have to convince the very determined volunteer that you are not. It takes some work. 21 - 30: You get lost on your way and instead make your way to the Artist's Alley instead on accident. You are awash in a sea of tables and fanartists, and somehow get roped into helping a stranger pick out which artist to get a commission from. They trust your artistic judgment, based on your outfit. 31 - 40: You give up for a time, and seek out overpriced snacks. If the number you roll is odd, they're in stock with what you want for twice the reasonable price. If the number you roll is even, they're out. If you're hungry, you must brave the outside world-- and the inevitable crowd that you have to fight to get back inside. Fun. 41 - 60: An adorable child approaches you and declares, in some fashion, that they are lost. You try to find their parent or guardian. ...Try. 61 - 80: Someone is following you. Someone is following you, and you cannot shake them. Someone is approaching you and-- they just wanted a picture with you. Huh, go figure. 81- 100: RETRIEVAL MECHANICS: - You've found the artifact! But, unfortunately, you need to negotiate with the dealer to acquire it. There's something about their appearance that shimmers for just a second, and you can tell they're not quite human. "Let's make a deal, human," it says, and its voice rings like three in one. Somehow, no one can hear you. Somehow, no one is nearby. The world is devoid of colour. The convention hall is silent, decrepit. Is this a dream? "Defeat me, and it's yours." - BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a vague ghost dressed as an anime character of your choosing, semi-translucent and floating. Miserable. It has 100 HP. Every time you attack the boss (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. After Boss defeat:Upon its defeat, the convention hall snaps back into view. All the damage you've done is erased, and the dealer looks at you with wariness. "Fine," it says. "Take the dumb thing. I didn't want it anyway." It huffs, turning up its nose at you. "But rest assured, the boogeymen will hear about this." (They do not.) You take the artifact and go, ready to return it to Sun Division. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. * 2 mission reward points for completing this successfully

It was hard to say, exactly, who was leading who around by the hand in this situation. On the one side, Ever was the most experienced hunter of the group: a specialist with more than one mission under his belt, with years in the field to draw from. On the other, he had never been to any kind of convention nor even seen an anime in his life. The good news was that he had something that could serve as cosplay, once the concept had been explained to him. His halloween costume, a budget Viserys complete with melting (cardboard) gold crown, would help him to stay undercover. Still, he looked a bit nervous, checking his watch as he waited by the portals to head out.

Soleil, in her infinite resourcefulness, had asked around a bit about cosplays, and had been informed that the Sun diversion had something of a library of them, though the reason why had seemed to vary from person to person. But the why really didn't matter. What mattered was the twins had access to a plethora of different con ready outfits, and Soleil was going to make sure they took advantage of that. So when the elder of the two met up with Ever she was decked out in full display splendor. Nisha had been who Soleil had settled on, short hair and all with the help of a nice wig. This certainly wasn't her first experience in the con scene, but it was the first time she'd had such a bad a** costume. She waved as she approached, flashing a grin. "A crown for a king, huh? Nice."

Lunaire arrived no long after her sister, a thick brown robe tied at the waist, a large hood draped over her head. In her other hand she flourished a rather nice looking prop lightsaber, she clicked the device on with full sound effects and lighting up a delightful blue. "This is not the hunter you're looking for," she waved her hand at both of them with a grin that could be made out from under her hood. "Apparently some guy named Mark has a really good lightsaber collection so it wasn't too hard to pass off being a Jedi for this trip." She paused looking at her sister, "You know they have new Star Wars movies?"

"...I've, uh, never actually seen the originals..." Ever didn't sound ashamed to admit it, not really, which meant that his ignorance on the subject was extreme. He at least should have known better than to admit it out loud. His eyes flicked from Soleil to Luna and mostly he just looked puzzled, trying to cover it up with a smile. "You look good, though. Excellent cowboy look." He tipped his head, trying to see around the drip down his forehead, and took one step back toward the portal. "Ready, ladies?"

Hands on her hips, Soleil gave her sister a long look before shaking her head. Of course a Jedi. "Yeah. Did you forget episode seven came out right befire we got recruited? We were gunna go, but," she trailed off, gesturing to the island they were standing on. "Are there more than that, though?" Her twin's phrasing seemed to indicate there were. A brow went up at Ever's admittance, but she wasn't quite sure if she was surprised by that or not. He was an odd one, proven more over at the compliment. It made her smile though, and as she walked past him and into the portal, she'd do so with an amused "Yeehaw."

Lunaire paused counting on her fingers for a moment thinking, "s**t that means they've released two new movies and a third one on the way next month!" She cursed softly a few times under her breath. That done she paused to stop and stare at Ever, the only move she made was to adjust her glasses a bit and deactivate the lightsabers glow. "You sir are deprived of an American treasure and we'll need to fix that as soon as possible." She brushed past ever towards the portals, "We can catch you up after the mission though."

It takes some work. "It's on my list, at least?" Ever's tone was just faintly apologetic, tinged with a bit of amusement -- at, perhaps, being the old man shepherding two teenagers (he thought) around. After a moment, he followed them into the portal, shaking his head just slightly. On the other side, they were immediately swept up into the flow of traffic. Hordes of people in costumes, in t-shirts, in almost nothing at all, swirled in the entrance to the convention center and made their way inwards, and the hunters were drawn into the madness. It was worst for Ever, probably, having never been to any convention at all -- and he was stopped practically inside the door by an excited volunteer who looked him over sharply. "Oh my god, you even have the hair." The young man seemed thrilled, leaning in to put a hand on Ever's arm, and it made him blink. Made him pause. His instinct was to flirt back, but in this situation, maybe this wasn't flirting but simple friendly excitement.. "Ah. Yes, that's my hair." But this answer wasn't enough. The hand stayed on his arm as the young man drew him along, chattering about the rules of the costume contest and guiding Ever toward the contestant queue. Bemused and entertained and a little bit annoyed, Ever had trouble getting a word in edgewise. It was only when he planted his feet and refused to move ("wow, you're a lot stronger than you look!") that he finally managed to extract himself and turn to hunt the crowd for the girls.

You are awash in a sea of tables and fanartists, and somehow get roped into helping a stranger pick out which artist to get a commission from. They trust your artistic judgment, based on your outfit. Well, on his list was at least a start. Soleil was shaking her head as they slipped through the portal, but paused on the other side to wait for the others. Then, as one, they joined the crowd bustling just past the entrance to the convention. Only to have one of their group drawn away about a minute later. "Aw crap, where are they taking him?" Grumbling under her breath, the elder twin took her sister's hand, ready to lead her through the crowd to follow Ever and the guy that was drawing him away. Or, that had been the plan. Quite on accident, Soleil managed to get herself separated from Luna as well, and in her bid to get back to at least one of them, managed to find their destination. "Convenient." Now she just had to wait for- "Excuse me!"She blinked, turned to look down at the short girl that was standing beside her looking a bit starry eyed. "Uh, hi. What's up?" "Your Nisha, it's amazing," the girl fawned. "Can you help me? I don't know which artist to pick. You've obviously got good taste. Who do you recommend?""I, what?" Further explanation only caused Soleil's frown to deepen, but after a long moment she wound up bowing to the inevitable, and turned to point at one of the artist booths at random. To her credit, at least, the art work on display was all very nicely rendered.

"That is a good start. We'll discuss viewing times later and we'll bring popcorn." She nodded in confirmation as they started through the portal. Popping out on the other side she went to ask her sister something but she was already being dragged away by someone asking questions. Ever had vanished entirely and someone it seemed was creeping on her. It was the feeling she used to get in high school when an awkward nerd was just leering from over the top of a computer screen or a book. Lunaire didn't hesitate, she strode away from Soleil leaving her to the stranger nagging her as she tried to lose the person in the crowd but the sense of someone watching was too great. Finally she turned flourishing her lightsaber with a menacing scowl only to be greeted by a series of camera flashes as a young girl took a series of shots with her camera phone. "You're not a Jedi, you're more like a Sith!" They said with a laugh before skipping off.

It takes some work. Through the crowd, Ever was certain that, just for a moment, he'd spotted the twins. Or, at least, one of them. The distinctive shape of a Jedi robe had him pushing his way through hordes of people, the crown on his head looking just a little crooked by this point, to chase down its owner. And when he caught up with her, she had green hair instead of blue, shooting him a scowl for a moment before her expression turned pensive, instead. "You looking for the Cosplay Contest too?" It drew Ever up short, just a little bit frustrated. His costume really wasn't that good was it?

Quote: 41 - 60: An adorable child approaches you and declares, in some fashion, that they are lost. You try to find their parent or guardian. ...Try. " Excuse me?" Soleil blinked, her attention dragged away from her careful scanning of the artist alley and down to the little hand that was tugging on her coat. It had dark brows arching curious at the child who appeared to be no more than seven. She was dressed in whites and tans, hair drawn back in a series of three small buns, and there was a toy lightsaber in her hand. Rey, if her memory served. From The Force Awakens, the movie Sol and her sister had been so excited for before signing on with the hunters. " I can't find my mom and dad, can you help me? Please?" "Um, sure." It came with a small thread of reluctance. Not because she didn't want to help, but because it was a further delay in their mission. One that would no doubt take her away from the artist alley. But really, what else could she do? It wasn't like she could just leave the kid here alone. So she forced a smile as she offered her hand down to the little budding jedi. "Where was the last place you saw them, sweety?"

It was hard to keep track of the whole party, cons where always a cluttered mess and this one was no exception, standing on the tips of her toes Lunaire tried to sneak a peak of her sister or Ever, she caught glimpse of a crown but the growing sense of paranoia was back again. The Jedi clad hunter quickly dropped back down on the flats of her feet and started sneaking through the crowd again. A left, a right, around that guy, behind this girl. There was a tug on her robe and she turned to brandish her light saber only to be flashed with another photo on someones phone followed by a quick thank you. Whoever had been following her this time was already gone by the time the spot from the camera flash had faded.

He saw Soleil in the crowd, he was sure of it -- a flash of her hat and Ever turned to follow, started to raise his voice, her name on the tip of his tongue. Before he could get it out, though, there was a tug near the hem of his tunic that drew his attention downward instead. A girl. Six or seven, maybe, with hair nearly as fair as his, and wet tears still on her face. Ever looked up, saw Soleil was gone, and with a sigh focused on the child instead. She'd lost her dad, apparently, who was also dressed in a medieval style tunic. Ever only waffled for a moment before agreeing to help her look. They wandered the area. Asked strangers if they'd seen him. Scanned heads in the crowd. No dice. After far too much time had passed, he blew a breath out through his teeth and gave up, surrendering her to staff instead. They could buzz him, hopefully. Now he had to find his kids again.

It takes some work. Having deposited the lost child with the appropriate authorities, Soleil was once again free to resume her mission. Or, at this point, she'd accept finding one or both of her teammates. She knew she needed to get to the Dealer's Alley, but that was proving to be very difficult. The crowds were getting thicker now, and Soleil was having to fight her way against the natural flow of bodies moving in the opposite direction. All of a sudden there was a tug on her arm. Assuming it was Ever or Luna, she turned to face the owner of the hand with a grin, only for it to fade away as she realized it was not. "I'm sorry, you have the wrong person." " Are you a part of the cosplay contest?" Soleil gave a long blink, lips pursing. "No, I'm not. Look. I nee-" " Ha, that's funny. You have to be. Look at your outfit! You look amazing. Here, come over here so we can get a picture." They ahd started tugging on her. The teen drew back on her arm, an almost pained expression on her face. "Look, I-" It was no use. Their enthusiasm steamrollered any attempt at logic Soleil threw at them, and in the end she found herself standing with a group of other people dressed up like Borderlands franchise characters for group shots.
